What A Car!
Totally amazing! This car is unbelievable, especially at the price. This is my third Maxima and by far the best design, comfort and performance of the three.
Journey to Excellence
A complete joy to drive, comfortable with plenty of head and leg room that easily accomodates my 6'5" body. Very little road noise and a powerful engine that allows me to easily enter into traffic flow. The body style is just something to look at, I have the Elite with the sunroof option. The Bose system is unmatched, an unparrelled automobile.

Good but not great
This vehicle is probably a great car for a young adult, but for a middle aged person it is not smooth enough over rough roads. I can't wait to return to the luxury class I got used to. I am willing to give up the performance for the smooth ride.
Best Vehicle I Have Owned
This is a great car. The performance is outstanding and the interior is very good, especially considering that I am 6' 6" tall. The only problem that I have had is with the soft rims and low profile tires, all original equipment. I have damaged 3 rims so far.
Great Car
Has great mileage. Getting 25.5 mpg. Has excellent agility and performance. Great brakes, saved me 1 time. Had too stomp on the brakes (brake assist) Very comfy interior.
Driving the 2004 Nissan Maxima
Driven from Nevada to California twice and it is a wonderful road car. Solid, Quiet and Powerful. Good on gas milage, better than expected. I would buy this car again.
Fun and Luxurious
My Maxima is fun to drive and accelerates quickly. The AC and heater are a major improvement over the Bonneville I formerly had. The leather interior is attractive and comfortable. I had a security problem starting the engine one morning. I'm still not sure what caused it. Possibly a key transponder problem.
Oustanding car
So you have read the poor reviews of this vehicle. These are inital quality that have all been resolved or handled under warranty by dealer. I have not experienced any of the quality issues since mine was built 5/04. Only quality issue I have is the interior scratches easily. This has been replaced for 05 and I can have my dealer replace mine under warranty. This car is very quick. Must check spedo because it goes up faster than you think. MPG avg 20 city, 29 HW. Sport suspension feels softer than some luxury cars. No mistaken identity. Stands out among many look- alike cars out there. Same engine as 350Z & as reliable as previous Nissan motors. Lots of fun
Too Big, Too Expensive, Too Much like..
The Altima!! Looks like an oversized Altima. Even though it has 10 more hp it's slower than the 2002/2003 model because it gained 150+ pounds! $35K for a FWD V6 Nissan Maxima??? The G35 would make more sense. 2004 Maxima lost it's uniqueness as a flagship. For less, you can get an Altima, for the same price, get the G35
2004 Maxima review
great looking automobile perf is great interior is spaceous and detailed nicely standard sky lights a real plus trunk is extra spaceous enjoy having audio controls in steering wheel heated steering and seats a plus plus in cold weather electric everything
Maxima Has It All!
I finally found a car with all my requirements: comfort, reliability, performance and reasonable price. I have back problems and found adequate lumber and lateral seat support. We previously owned a 1999 Maxima and have experienced first hand its reliability. The Maxima has outstanding acceleration, responsive steering and braking. Finally, in comparison with the Infiniti G35 which has the same engine, Maxima has more luxury features on the base SL model thus providing a better value.
Great Value - Amazing Power
After 350 miles, I am confident I made the right choice. Styling, both inside and outside stand out from other cars. Lots of features for the money. Powerful engine (sometimes hard to control) a major plus. Center console is packed with buttons, sometimes confusing. Auto climate control sometimes makes bad choices. Avg 21 MPG
Very Happy
I drove most of the large and midsize sedans on the market before I decided the Maxima was right for me (started shopping last Feb.). Maxima's reputation for being a well built, reliable, refined car is deserved. There is nothing about the car that I don't like. It's performance and handling are superior. It's obvious that the car is well built - you'll know as soon as you open one of the interior compartments. The sound system is good. The interior is comfortable and roomy - suprised me, I'm 6'2". The trunk is also larger than I'd have figured. The fuel economy is good. Best of all, it was $3500 off MSRP at the dealership I purchased it from.
Shoulda bought a Grand Prix GTP
Not bad. Powerful, comfortable, but I liked the 1996 version I owned better. It was classier and more practical.
Runs like new @ 75K
I bought the car brand new in 2004. Now have 75K miles. Still drives like new and still having fun driving it. Great Bose sound system (not sure why it has a tape player, never used it). Does not drive well in Wisconsin weather. Low pro tire needs replacement every 40K and pricey. Replaced by front grill b/c of peeling (common issue). Nissan great about fixing recalls. Overall pretty satisfied.
Maxima #1
The car rides great and when you need to pass there is no better engine than the Nissan V6. I debated between the Altima V6 and the Maxima, but I'm very happy with my decision. The tighter suspension on the Maxima, bigger wheels, the controlled acceleration, along with the safety features, the cars slow depreciation and the cars overall history helped me make a better decision.
2004 Maxima SE
My Maxima SE with the 5 spd auto trans is a blast to drive. (The manual would be even better, but the wife won't learn to drive it).It handles very well and is very fast, for a 6 cylinder. It is modern looking and gets more than it's share of looks.
4th Nissan
This is our 4th Nissan and second Maxima. It seems each new model we purchase has become more reliable than the last. We just sold a 2001 Maxima,72000 miles, never required any dealer repair. I Just bought this one yesterday (2004 liquid silver SE) and had to test the now expected power to avoid another driver turning from the wrong lane! The Max performed like a dream. My emotional attachment to these cars is so bad that we no longer trade them in...they are sold to another Max fanatic who will give them a good retirement home :-) Yes...my husband IS threatening counseling.
Smooooth...
This car does everything smooth...Acceleration, braking, steering and appearance. The Maxima has attitude under the hood clear back to the twin dual pipes. A similarly equipped Audi A4 would be about $5K more without the "cool" factor. I've never owned a car that gets stared at so often.
The only car to own.
This is my third Maxima and it is the best. I love the pick up it has on the road and the new styling is superb. I receice a lot of comments from strangers about what a good looking car I own and it makes be proud. The best part about Maximas is there reliability.
greatest of maximas
have had each maxima from 1989 to date- this by far the best.i had test drive of acura tl and infiniti g35 and i35- the maxima seems better re engine and performance and is more fun and more comfortable to drive
I have been converted to Nissan
My wife wanted one and I wasn't sure about Nissan. At one time not long ago their cars were not very good. However, I gave them a second chance and I am glad I did. I literally love this new Maxima SL.
My first bad auto purchase
Oil leak right out of the showroom! Nissan mechanics can't figure out where it's coming from. I've had this vehicle less than 24 hours. Nissan "official position"....we will not replace, but we will repair under warranty any defects......whether I've owned the car for 3 hours or 3 years. They will not replace the vehicle. Can you imagine buying a brand new, top of the line car (a lemon) and Nissan wants to "fix it" as opposed to replacing it?
Satisfaction
Best car I've ever owned. I have owned two other Maima's and they did well for me. I have a 5 yr lease on this one and if it continues the same satisfaction, I may purchase it at the end of the lease. It handels like a sports car but with all the luxury of the German cars and for much less money. Even my friends who own "German" cars are envious of me.
SMART BUY
REAL HEAD TURNER, FINNALY A CAR WITH SPEED AND GREAT LOOKS IN AND OUT. EVEN THE WIFE'S HAPPY WITH IT.
This car is a 10
I would recommend buying this car to absolutely anyone! This car is the best thing to hit in 2004!! It looks great and feels great to ride in!! If you can afford it pick one up now or you will be missing out on one of the best cars made in decades.
Bad Ass Car
The '04 Maxima SE 6M is truly a jewel to own. My first Maxima was a'92 and I loved it. This one is 33% more powerful with a six speed and looks like a car that rivals the good looks of any car in it's class. Many thanks to Nissan for the concept on this one.
Maxima,to the max and beyond
A tremendously fun vehicle to drive.Great handling, sports car feel, ride a little stiff, until you've driven a little, really holds the road well.steering and car go where you aim it.A really well built car for the money."Really happy' with my purchase.Love that sports car feel, great mileage as well as comfort.thanks Nissan
Maxima.....Loaded Altima?
I love the new Maxima. Looks great, superb engine, top notch interior (unlike the plastic woes of the Altima) and roomy. But I am doubting the strategy put out by Nissan. The Maxima is identical to the Altima mechanically and suspension and chassis wise, other than 20 more horsepower. For a car that cost so much more, I believe that Nissan should have forked out more development money to maximize the car's potential, especially chassis and suspension wise, instead of routing the cheap way, and building a car that looks great, but is just an Alitma. The car still handles well, but for the price, it could be much better.
MAXDOUT
My 2004 Maxima now has 60,000 miles. This Maxima had alot of issues. Build quality should have been much much better. Performance holds this car together. But I would NOT buy this car used & I love Maximas.
Yeah baby, yeah!
I've had this car for a week and half and I find myself making excuses to go out and drive it. Everytime I open up the garage door and see the rear of the car with it 4 chrome tipped exhaust pipes, I go "oh yeah!" and I get an automatic grin on my face. Excellent smooth ride, lots of power, nice comfortable interior, grippy handling, and great fun to drive. Love the color (spirited bronze) which seems to change in different light. I notice people looking but Canadians are a little too shy to say something.
LM's review
I have never before been in a car where anywhere you go heads are turning. This car has and does it all. This is my 5th nissan. I've owned saabs and toyotas I will never buy anything other than a nissan. They are great cars for a good value.
2004 Maxima
I have had an SE with the driver preffered package for 1 month. The car runs great and i have been getting 26.5 mpg.
WOW
This car is amazing. Super quiet, super smooth, super fast. I have people stop me and say how much they love my car. It's so comfortable to drive too
Awesome car
I have driven the car less than a week, but so far it is really awesome. The power is amazing, the transmission is smooth, especially in manual mode. The Bose system kicks ass. I have the DPP and the power steering wheel is a good thing to have. My only complaint is that no one knows anything about the satellite radio. The dealer says that all you need to do is activate it, but I think the receiver and antenna has to be installed first. I think the people selling you the car should know about this, otherwise getting the car was a painless experience.
2004 Max
The 2004 maxima has great handling and a high level of comfort. Sports performance coupled with luxory, in my opinion, give this car the highest rating in its class. I've been driving this car for 8 months now and I haven't found one inconsistency. I have other drivers in beamerz and benzs' doing double takes. I love this car!
Chose over G35 at last minute
I was all set to get the G35 until the Infiniti dealer let me drive the G over to compare it with the Max one last time. Some major pluses IMO over the G35 is there is more space, bigger tires, overall the car looks better, the interior is done slightly better and you get a lot more options for the same price. The areas where the G35 stand out is 1) pampering at infiniti dealers 2) has better handling than the Max. 3) luxury. Long term wise the G is probally better overall but if you don't plan to keep cars for more than 3 or 4 years then the max is better.
THIS SHOULD BE THE ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
STUNNING AUTOMOBILE THAT REALLY TURNS HEADS. PERFORMANCE IS OUTSTANDING. IMMEDIATE POWER UPON REQUEST. MAKES LANE CHANGES IN FAST MOVING TRAFFICE A BREEZE. 265 HP WILL SNAP YOUR HEAD BACK. WHAT A JOY.
Car drives great
car drives great, the manual tranny and clutch feels great .. wonderful.. just like my 93 SE 5spd, steering response is wonderful power is definite.
From 02 Altima to 04 Maxima
Bought the SL. Got 26.5 mpg on recent trip. Getting 22 in town. Only problem is gas cap is very hard to turn when putting back on. And, heating control settings still confusing when operating manually instead of on Automatic. Now have 2800 miles on it. Especially enjoying the Sirius Satellite Radio (no commercials) Smooth and quiet ride and plenty of power.
PERFORMANCE
I find that the wheels are made too big for this vehicle the high perfomance tires will not be good on roads when wet or snow exists. Tight wheel base when you go over a bump in the road the steering wheel moves you may lose control
Great Vehicle
This is my second Maxima in two years and I will likely purchase a third in the future. The new body style is eye catching and the performance is everything I expected. Shop this car against the TL, IS300, and BMW325 and you will buy it. The interior is cavernous and the gauges are just sporty enough without looking like a teenagers car.
Love this car
I've had this car for 1 1/2 years and nothing but praise! I drive for a living and have just returned from a road trip to Florida...this car is awesome. Plenty of power, very smooth, and no problems whatsoever. Best choice I could have made.
Best mid-size for 2004 Nissan Maxima
The Maxima handles so nicely for its size. The SE gives you the sporty look but a luxurious ride. It does have great pick up and I recommend it to all people who are looking for a mid-size car. It gets great gas mileage and you have plenty of room seating wise for you the pilot and your passengers.
Nissan Maxium Best
I shoppes all competative cars in this price range of sedans 2004. I first saw at the Denver auto show and it caught my eye as the best looking style wise. I was very suprised when I found the price as it looked far more expensive. When I did a test drive at John Elway I was completely sold and purchased. It has looks, inside room, comfort and in city get 23 miles.
The "4DSC" Has Returned
Virtually outstanding in every way. Smooth acceleration, Confident handling and braking characteristics. Very steady and sure footed at highway speeds. Quiet spacious interior. Tremendous head and leg room (I'm 6'4).Visibility is excellent throughout. Chose this vehicle over the G-35, because of overall value and styling. The old 'Z' line applies to this car. "AWESOME".
maxima rating
we purchased the 2004 maxima in aug. 13 miles on it. it is the se model with the 3.5 i like the car, but hate the seats, they are short on the bottom, and hard. i have yet to set my seat position because i haven't found a comfort zone yet. the remote for the outside mirrors is not in a good location, you have to reach forward, and down to adjust the mirror, and then sit back to see if it's right. our car listed for over 32,000. my husband refused to pay that amount, and with trade in, we ended up paying 27 but i think we still paid too much. he loves it, but i drive it daily, and i'm not so sure i would purchase one again, unless i was able to take it home for a weekend, and drive it.
super excellente
when you want to generate a fans club, you gotta have this one, at least to your car, i get compliment everyday when i drive this car, everyday!, specially with my Radiant Amber color which is rare!, with burnt orange leather seats, man! you got ,to buy it to believe it. one time I play around with chrysler300M on I-65. They just shocked when i passed them at 125mph in few sec. after they passed me at 110mph.
Choice buy
I love it, hauls butt!!
One Kick-Ass Car!
Awesone styling, fast (great 3.5 V6), top-notch handling, great stereo, good ergonomics. Overall, a very good value compared to other near-luxury cars on the market today. For the price, the standard features are generous and beat the pants off entry luxury cars like the BMW 330 and Audi A4.
