It's exciting to drive. Once you get used to the torque steer you don't mind it much. Some sloppy assembly - a missing nut under the hood. A breather hose that wasn't attached.

Saw this car while on vacation in Florida and fell in love with it. It's a very competent road car, with powerful acceleration and a roomy cabin. Styling (other than grille) is top notch. Had to replace front shocks under warranty and now there is a vibration in steering wheel. I hope can be remedied with tire balancing, but have read many complaints in the past about wheel/tire issues related to this. Overall, have been very happy with car and it's the best one I've ever owned.

I love my maxima, but as previously stated, it makes so much noise while youre driving it. It feels like you're riding it offroad and it makes the driver and passenger shake. My front struts also went bad a 7k miles. other then that, I love it. I dont know if I'd buy another maxima in the future.

I have to tell you. I've had my Max since 2003. It's a great car with both power and style. Still turns heads after 2 years! The engine is smooth and powerful without sacrificing MPG. I avg. 24.9 MPG. Not bad for such a strong motor! If I have anything negative to say, it's nothing different that what's already been in reviews - fix the torque steer issue and work on the wide turning radius. Other than that - I love my Maxima!!

We've owned a lot of cars over the years but, except for a clssic 1963 Lincoln Continental, we've never had a vehicle that turned so many heads. Strangers come up to us on the street and say, "What a beautiful car." Really amazing. The engine is quick and smooth, seating comfortable for long trips -- we take it down to Mexico in the winter -- the only drawbacks are the control center screen is a dust magnet, and there's some torque when you kick the acceleration. We'd definitely buy another when the next generation comes out. Ours is black with grey leather.

The car is solid. The transmission is superb and I like the styling. I have 8200 miles on the car and had a few rattles in the interior, but the power train is the best I have ever driven. I didn't know that Renault is the primary owner of Nissan when I bought this car!! After 4 months, I have only seen 2 or 3 more of these on the road!

This is my 4th Maxima and I am not happy. There is a serious shift problem with the new autoshift, 5 speed transmission on GL's sold after Feb 2004. The dealer says "it's normal" but other owners have the same problem!!! The gas cap is designed very badly. I just replaced the XM antenna, 2nd time, and it still works only about 60% of the time.

This is my first Maxima, I bought it two months ago.I just brought the car in for repair due to rattling noises from the dashboard and rear speaker, right front brake squeaking, and the rear left door rubber seal came off! The dealer was happy to fixed them all. So far I am very satisfied with the dealer's services. Over all I love the car, it's fast and fun to drive.

had a 95 Maxima-best car I ever owned. Expected the same with my new 2004 Maxima. But, oh boy, what a disappointment. Drives like a truck, handles like a used Buick (no offense Buick owners), very poor gas mileage, auto trans and brakes erratic, poor interior ventilation, uncomfortable arrangement of seat, dash controls and steering wheel. Has a fine, powerful engine and may be fun to drive on highway, but in real-life everyday driving it's only mediocre.

So far, so good. Second Maxima (96 is the other). Had it a week and it is amazing to drive. The cornering is tight and responsive. The interior is quiet and roomy. Lots of trunk space. Amazing amount of pick up when the accelorator is pushed and I haven't even opened it up yet. The gas mileage isn't even close to what I was told I would get, but I also have been playing with the gas pedal so far, so once I get into the groove of the car, I would imagine (hope) it will go up. I recently put an aftermarket air filter on it and the torque has imporved as well.

My Maxima is fun to drive and accelerates quickly. The AC and heater are a major improvement over the Bonneville I formerly had. The leather interior is attractive and comfortable. I had a security problem starting the engine one morning. I'm still not sure what caused it. Possibly a key transponder problem.

Let me begin by saying you want fuel economy then buy a Honda Civic. Other than that this is the best car I ever owned! The styling, the comfort, quiet, ride, handling, performance, everything is tops. What car could top this?? Yes a BMW ... but for twice the price! I would recommend this car to anyone any day as the perfect car.

I absolutely will never, ever buy Nissan products again. The issues with this car are innumerable but I'll try and include them in order of decreasing cost to fix: New transmission (other complaints on this site) @ 70K miles, new paint job due to defective black paint that lasted only 3 years, new front struts at 65K miles, new front bearings @ 60K miles, front wheel shimmy is recurring issue since day 1, front headlamps are not clear due to sun after 4 years. The front turning radius is that of an 18-wheeler.

This is hands down the BEST car I have ever owned. I can think of no sedan other than the BMW M5 ($80k) and the Lexus GS400 ($60k) that performs as well as this 04 Maxima. To compare this to a Camry is down right insulting. I purchased a 04 SE, DPPackage, white with tan leather, tinted windows.. The power is amazimg and the tiptronic shifting is so much fun. This is a SPORTS car that doesnt know it has 4 doors. My girlfriend thinks im nuts because I go out in the garage and just stare at it. I CANT HELP IT!! Is there a support group out there???

Why should you buy this car: 1) The engine. Nissan's V6 engine has long been considered among the best V6's built. 265 HP will blow you away. 2) The styling. There is no disputing that this is the best looking family sedan in the under $30 000 category. Park it next to an Accord, Camry, or Mazda 6 and you'll be sold. 3) The interior. It is huge! Very comfortable and plenty of storage. 4) The reliabilty. Equal to Handa and Toyota. 5) The ride. You will not stop smiling when you are behind the wheel. I can't think of a single reason that anybody would buy an Accord or Camry over the Maxima. Maxima owners secretly laugh at Accord and Camry owners.

I got tired of the car so I sold it to a private buyer. The 04 Maxima is a very powerful car, it has smoked a lot of cars that have challenged it. This car is just has fast if not a bit faster than my 01 Mustang GT. The sound system is a great one for one coming right out of the factory. The leather seats are ok, but nothing compared to luxury models. The interior which I liked at first got old real fast. My biggest gripe is the FWD which causes a lot of torque steer when flooring it. If you never had a FWD be warned, its a totally different ride. I should have gotten the G35.

Buying this car has been a huge disappointment. In the first month the car has been back to dealer multiple times for tire rotation, tire replacement, and lowering air pressure in tires. Car continues to have front end vibration on freeway. I am told that is how Nissan cars are. Glove box not flush when closed. Part on order to repair. This is the first and last Nissan I will ever own. Drive the car over 60 mph before you buy.

This car is so quite that you won't even know it's running when it is. I hate to go foreign in these difficult economic times, but you also have to in these times, get the best from your hard earned dollar. I want something reliable, and something that really fit my style. It was worth the money. I know if I ever go to resell this car, I will get a good turn over value too. That is always something to think about, should you be in the market of buying a new car.

I love that there is a lot of space inside and compared to both the 3 and new 5 series BMW, I feel you get a lot more bang for your buck, especially when you consider maintenance costs. The navigation system is a big plus for me and although it took some time to figure out it has some great features!

Esthetically, the Nissan Maxima 2004 SE is very nice inside and outside. It handles nicely and is pleasant to drive most of the time. However, sudden acceleration produces a tremendous amount of torque steer which drags the car to one side and wheel vibration can be pronounced around 50-60 mph. A bulletin is available to address the steering wheel vibrations problem by doing a road force variation procedure which most likely owners will have to pay for every time new tires are required. I am disappointed with this vibration issue which in my opinion is the result of a bad design.

Simply put you have to drive this car to feel the sensation it produces for the driver. This is such a smooth driving car which is also quick and precise. The SE which I own has got a really controlled ride and handling. The motor and transmission are so flexible it is smooth and wild at the same time. Kick this baby down and listen to the motor hustle the car seamlessly. I had a 2001 Maxima as well and hated to part with it. After having this for about a year I have never felt bad about my 2001 Maxima loss. This is a car that needs to be driven to appreciate.
