2013 E550 - Best car I have ever owned

Buying a used Mercedes E-class is likely the most intelligent decision auto buyers can make. It's the most reliable of the Mercedes, and it depreciates VERY fast, so you get a LOT of car for the money. I bought a used 2013 E550 with 48k miles on it. Sticker of almost $77,000 got it for $31,600. P1 and P2 packages, and the V-8 engine. My lord....wonderfully comfortable, incredibly fast. OK, the BMW has tighter steering, but you get less car for more money, particularly if you get the V-8 BMW. Love the auto high beams; they adjust between hi and lo beams per oncoming traffic automatically. Dash is so.....German. Perfectly organized, easy to use instruments. They even have an Off button....so you know how to turn everything off and don't have to hold down a fan button or hit it a million times. Ok, so what's bad? Nav is pretty lame; voice control is pretty lame, and back-up camera is a little disappointing for this level of car....no markings, just a straight back-up camera. Repair costs are HIGH...... BUT, I use my phone for navigation anyway, and voice control is of little importance to me. The camera still serves its purpose. Since it's reliable, the repair costs aren't THAT bad, just take it to a reliable mechanic that won't rob you like Mercedes dealers do. Update: One year in, nothing has changed. This car is awesome. I now have 70k miles on it, but you would never know, runs like new. The V-8 grumbles a little, but it is so worth it. Blew away both Lexus and Infiniti when forced to due to aggressive driving tactics by them. Update. One and a half years into owning this beauty! Have nothing to change or update, it is still the best car I've ever owned! Edmunds Requested Update: 2 years in, nothing has changed. Still a great car, comfortable, FAST, beautiful and reliable. Little nits not previously.mentioned: stereo goes in and out sometimes, sunroof a little noisy. Nothing else. 90k miles, still runs perfectly. Edmunds requested update: Continues to be reliable, fast and comfy. Have had a few "in and out" sound experiences with the stereo, a few annoying noises and some small glitches with things like the trunk needing to be re-lubed so I could close it with my hand, and not only the button. One time the stereo would not turn off even after car was off. But the car figured it out :-) . Just took it in for the 100k service a bit early....no repairs. Will need struts soon, but that's about it. Love it. 108000 miles. Drives like new. I love this car. Plan to drive it to 300k. Edmunds requested update: 121k miles now, no deterioration of any kind yet, though I imagine I will have to replace the turbos pretty soon. May never have to buy another car. This thing is a tank, and holding up extraordinarily well. Edmumds requested update: 4.5 years in, no change. 130k miles on it, no distinguishable difference in the way it drives. Only expense so far has been oil changes, tuneups, tires, etc. Gets 25 mpg at keast on the highway. Is it perfect? No. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

Still love my 2013 E350

76,500 miles since previous review with no service needs other than routine maintenance. Because I drive more than 35,000 miles a year on business and typically buy a 3-year old car and turn it in at 300,000 miles, durability, reliability, comfort and safety count much more than the cache of a luxury auto. My previous auto, a 2007 E350, was great, but the added technology in the 2013 model - better fuel economy more safety features and better storage - is a remarkable improvement.

Balance shaft - MBZ does not stand behind

Great car, comfortable and great value. BUT be careful, as Mercedes does not stands behind their products. I have a MBZ E350, and at 63K, I got a check engine problem that required a balance shaft to be changed at the cost of $6K, because of a shaft that was not properly tempered. MBZ clearly built a product that was flawed, as about 20% of the cars that has the E350 engine had the problem. BUT they leaved us poor users to deal with it, and didn't stand behind their poor craftmaship product.

Good but could be great if they could FIX MY CAR

Nice car but I recommend road testing on the freeway before buying. Mine makes a whine between 70 - 80 MPH. Dealer replaced rear end twice in 2500 miles. Still whines. They opened a "factory Case File" on my car. MB representative promptly called me and told me the sound was a "Characteristic" and they would do no more fixes, even though no other E350 does what mine does. I am stuck with a car that makes a whine on the freeway, and I have to drive a lot on the freeway due to where I live. Hard to believe that for this price point MB won't stand behind their cars. They used the "characteristic" line to avoid the car being labeled a lemon. Very Dishonest.

Superb Car That Gets Costly As The Miles Increase

My 2013 E-550 sedan was special ordered from the factory in Germany. This was a great way to begin ownership since I got exactly the car I wanted at a good price. I also got the MB factory tour and lunch as well as insurance and tourist registration for a couple of weeks. I covered 8 countries in my first days and drove it at 130 mph on the autobahn. It was a memorable adventure. After that I ended up keeping the car for seven years and 132,000 miles. Now about my ownership experience itself: I never tired of driving this car. It has an impressive visual presence. Interiors are the most important part of the package for me, and the E-550 is richly appointed. I had full leather in beige with glossy wood accents and driving the car was always an aesthetic delight. The interior stood up very well to the sunlight but this was partly because I have covered parking at work and I was careful about keeping the exposed parts treated with protectant. The E-550 handled with terrific composure on all surfaces and its twin-turbo 4.7 liter V-8 supplied effortless power. I have nothing negative to say about the driving experience. I always looked forward to making long trips in it. So here's the negative part. The car needed several costly repairs after the 50k mile warranty expired. Between 50k and 132k I replaced the drive shaft, replaced a coolant pump, replaced both turbochargers, replaced front-end sway bar links, and had a number of other more minor repairs. This was all dealer service and it became very expensive. The replacement of the turbochargers alone required pulling the engine at a cost of more than $10,000. Although I had intended to keep the car another year, given the track record of repairs I traded it in early to avoid any further expenses. It says something about my overall view of the car that I replaced it with a new 2020 E-450. This time, I did choose to extend the warranty to 100,000, given my experience with my 2013 model.

Not what I expected from MB

I leased a 2013 E350 sport sedan about 7 months ago. When I picked up the car the door had a scratch in it. Great, band new car, already repainted. TThen the car developed a pronounced rattle at idle. The dealer fixed it by adding felt tape along side the "fuel line". (!?) 6 months later I test drove a C300 and noticed it had less exhaust system noise/drone. I took the E350 in and they compared it to other E350 sedans and agreed my exhaust system was make an unusually loud droning noise. They contacted MB and were told that there were other complaints on this issue and that a "case" had been opened but there was no resolution yet. I was told to check back in 6 months!? UPDATE: I contacted Mercedes Benz US Corporate Headquarters and complained about the brush off by the dealer. The dealer contacted me the next day an ask me to bring the car back in. They kept it for 4 days and when I picked it up it was improved but still louder that many other E350s. I turned the car in at lease end and picked up a 2015 GLK 350. After driving the GLK for several months I have found it to be a much better vehicle. It has better visabillity, it's much quieter (both engine/exhaust noise and road noise), rides much smother, and is much more responsive (both acceleration and steering). It's also rock solid. When you hit a bump you hear a thump but no body vibration at all. It imparts a sense of real quality which was lacking in the E350. The looks of the GLK are, well, you either love them or hate them. But other than that everything else about the GLK has far exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately the E350 fell far short.

I have a 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 4matic Luxury. I love this car as it is robust, authoritative, and agile for a vehicle this heavy. I leased it new in January of 2013, and when the lease expired, I bought the car as I enjoyed it. So far, I have seven years of trouble-free daily driving experience. One thing I must note is that I have been taking my car to the dealer for all its routine services from day one.

I test car whole bunch of new cars for extended periods including Audi A6, Audi Q5, BMW 5 Series and even Jeep Cherokee. But I decided to buy Mercedes E350 Sport. Audi A6 was strong contender but went with E350. Car feels assured, is quieter inside the cabin than Audi or BMW. Not to mention that I got a gteat deal on it nearly 10K less than MSRP. The value for money, none other could beat.

Prior to this car I owned 4 C-Classes (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011). Personally, I felt the C-Class was a good vehicle that came with a premium price tag because of the 3-point badges affixed to the hood and bumper. Unable to get my hands on a C-Class coupe w/ 4Matic I went with the 2013 E350 Sport 4-Matic (Black on Black, AMG Wheels, P2, and Pano-roof). What a suprise. There is a clear line drawn in the sand between the C-Class and the E/S Classes. First, the E-Class is crafted with overall superior materials and attention to detail. Second, this car is fast, much faster than my last C300. At almost 4000lbs this car is a beast (0-60 approx 5.6). Last, its roomey inside like a Lincoln Town Car.

Moved up to the E-class from 2011 C300 4Matic Sport because I wanted a slightly larger vehicle. The E350 certainly accomplished that. Compared to the C300 sport the E350 ride is more comfortable but a little less "sporty". There is a some body roll noted when driving even mildly aggressive but not so enough to ruin the driving experience. There is plenty of power from the 302hp V6 and surprisingly reasonable gas mileage, thus far. Just like with my previous MB, I wanted a vehicle that stood out a little from the other MBs commonly seen. I opted for the sport trim (obviously), the 18" AMG twin spoke wheel package and rear deck-lid spoiler. Aside from appearance choices, I went with P2 p

Recently retired and wanting something less expensive to operate, my Audi A8 was no longer under warranty and would be expensive to repair. After1 month I can say that this is a nice driving car but the COMAND system and voice recognition is vastly inferior to the Audi MMI. Such systems have become integral to todays driving experience defining to a large extent how the driver interacts with the car. MB COMAND requires much more input to navigate the menus than Audi. The voice recognition seems less intelligent and reliable compared to my past Audi experience. COMAND may have a shorter learning curve but will require more effort to operate than MMI. Miss parking assist.

Once I hit 65,000 miles... - Engine oil leak - AC motor bad - Motor Mounts collapsed - 275.00 key If this is luxury driving, I want out. I will go back to Lexus, Acura, or Infinity. This is a joke. Now I know why they have free cappuccino at the dealer...because you will be there a lot! Never will buy a Mercedes again! Horrible car for the money.

I have read a lot of the reviews on the E35O and know a lot of people like this car but I think it is overrated because it has the Mercedes name plate. If the same car had a Ford or Chevy name plate on it I wonder if it with be rated so highly. I have a 2013 E-350 with Sports package. I have had some issues with the command console and the road noise is terrible. Mercedes say the level of road noise is normal. I guess since I have the sport package. It is too much noise for any car to have coming in the cabin. I have a 2001 BMW 530 with sports package and it is quieter than the E350. The technical issues with the command console, I plan to visit the dealer today.

This car is as smooth as butter when driving and not only that but the 4000.00 premium luxury package we got with it is the best. All around I am in heaven with this beauty. Comfort, security, the SOUND, you feel like your are in the concert when you listen to the CD's or DVD's . The best of the best for me and the family, Great job MBZ. You will not be disappointed when buying or leasing this baby .

I just picked up my 2013 E350 Sedan - MSRP was $64,865. This is my 7th straight year purchasing a new E350. This one, by far, is the best one Mercedes has ever built. The ride and handling are superb! The technology is functional, but not overwhelming. Audio system (Harman/Kardon 610 watt 5.1 surround sound w/14 speakers) is the best I've ever heard in a luxury sedan. Outstanding acceleration when needed! Great visibility both front and rear. Blind Side Monitor is a must option. Wood/leather steering wheel in Walmut is like a piece of good furniture. 3D NAV system is phenomenal! Voice control system responds to every command. Mbrace system great addition! Best E350 yet!

Until recently I had a MBZ C230 and E350. After 5+ years of owning my C230 I started having problems with it. I am not the kind of person who complains after owning a car for more than 5 years. This latest incident, though, with a newly leased 2013 E350 with bells and whistles has actually ended my relationship with Mercedes for good. I have already traded in my C230 for another car from another luxury car maker, I intend to trade in my E350 in due time. The 3 year lease on the E350 has more than 2 years left on it (so the incident described below happened with a car that is only ~10 months old).See below.See "suggested improvements" for incident

This is an excellent car. The build and fit are meticulous. The ride, steering and response are top notch. The navigation system is the only criticism I have. It is not touch screen, it will not search for locations by category and the rear view camera does not have guide lines. However, Mercedes's MBrace concierge service, for an annual fee, is a great service. In addition, Mercedes does not have the capability of upgrading the camera software to add the guide lines or to improve the nav system.

After several really unpleasant car buying/leasing experiences we had no faith that shopping for a car could be anything but a miserable time. The TV ads from the vending machine car companies hit real nerves when they point out that car buying is not even close to fun or easy. We decided to give Herb Chambers a go and see if the HC ads had any truth in them. Thanks to Jonathan and his coworkers we had a very positive experience. So, the message "we don't sell cars, we help people buy them" rings true for our experience and hope that our next car buying will be as good as this one. We've even become converts to the Mercedes brand!

Love the smooth ride afforded by this sedan. While some manufacturers have pivoted to sport-this and sport-that, we opted for the 2013 MB E350 because it had power, but the chassis is tuned for comfort. So too is the interior with a rattle-free, quiet and easy to use interior. This car is holding up very well and if I could find a lower mileage older unit I’d consider buying a second.
