Dash Goes Blank after 5000 miles

Disappointed Buyer in St Pete, 02/16/2023
2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 300 2dr Coupe (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
20 of 23 people found this review helpful

I am so disappointed this was my 4th Mercedes Benz. I waited 9 months for my custom made Benz C300 Cabriolet and after only 5000 miles the dash computers went blank and made the car underivable. I have been without my car for 8 weeks now. They were going to reprogram the computers but after 3 weeks they told me they had to order a whole new dash. They say the dash was shipped 1/26/23 but there is not tracking number, very suspicious. It took 3 weeks for Hona, Executive Referral Manager to finally reach me by phone and now they say if I want to declare it a lemon I may want to seek legal council; which I may do in order to get all my money back and damages. Oh by the way, and I’m still paying $1200/mo for a car I can’t drive. They say it’s the Chinese Chip maker and they had one plant in Germany that had major problems. I am thinking I need to buy a used car, pre-Covid. Wish I had someone on my side to help me here. The customer service at the dealership is good but they don’t know anything about when the parts will be here. And the followup with the delivery is every two weeks.

DO NOT BUY…Worse car I’ve ever bought

At 4,000 miles it left me stranded. The car locked up, shut down and all the lights came on. They had to come get it on a flat bed and after 3 days told me pretty much the mother board died and they had to reset and program stuff. I get the car back and between 5000 and 9000 bought the car back several times because the center pad kept blacking out, car seats would stop working and I would have to turn car off and on at a traffic light or when I park for them to start moving again. I’ve had to have them fix that issue 3 times already. Then at 10k miles my fuel pump broke and car stranded me again. They replaced the fuel pump and gave me a car back that sounds like a diesel truck now. The car slightly trembles persistently now when parked or sitting at a light. Then before 11k miles the charging station stopped working and it had to be replaced. Between 10k and 14k miles I’ve taken it back because of how this car was left sounding and I started having problems with my sunroof opening. I’ve provided these guys videos of the issues and today I picked it up for the 6th time and they tell me again there’s nothing major wrong with the car and that these cars sound like this and they couldn’t replicate any of the issues; despise seeing the videos I’ve sent them. They insist that I just never heard it before like that and that I just simply started noticing after the fuel pump replacement. They had my car for SEVEN days this time and when I get in the car I notice my mileage was the same as when I dropped off. I go back and speak to the Director of the service department who insists they had no need the test drive the car to replicate any of the issues I have when driving. I now just retained a lemon law attorney who immediately took the case. DO NOT BUY THESE CARS,

800 miles and car wouldn't start. 30 minutes later, no problem. Main screen has scrambled 3 times first 4 months. Auto brake has engaged, terrifyingly, 4 times randomly. Check engine light has come and gone and driver's side window will not always go up. Cannot replicate at dealership

Worst new car ever!

We purchased our 2022 C300 in August 2022 (with 9 miles) with all the new bells and whistles, big center screen, lights throughout, 360 cameras, and so on. Everything. First long drive was going to be to California, Thanksgiving. Woke up at 0500 went to get 91 octane gas. Car would not turn on.... Blacked out. Called a tow, stuck for an hour. Dealer closed, so had to wait until following week. They "updated" the computer. Wife was driving and got warning lights on, sensor failures. Took car in and they cleared the warning light and found no issues. Car now had a hiccup at idle every 5 seconds. Took it in, they checked piston pressure, fuel injectors, computer told us it was "bad gas". They filled it with "good gas." Took car home, next week "warning" vehicle in an accident light, parking sensor failures and other warning light in red on dash. Took car in, asked us "what gas did we put in it?" We didn't put gas, it's still full of thier "good gas." Kept the car again and now told us they "updated the computer again." Can't drive the car without worrying its going to leave us. Worst new car purchase ever.

Mixed bag

I had a 2022 C300 RWD in LA as a Turo rental for a one-week trip, and put a lot of miles on it, both city and highway. I'll start with the positives: -Incredibly fuel efficient for the size and power -Ultra smooth start/stop - was truly seamless and not at all annoying like those systems can be -Interior and exterior styling was attractive -Ride was smooth over small bumps, smothering them Mixed: -Handling was just ok - the steering felt kind of lethargic and it didn't feel like it would like to be hustled around corners...it was capable, but didn't feel willing -While the interior looked nice at first, upon interacting with more items (turn signal stalks, transmission lever and some plastics lower on the dash), you could feel cost-cutting The bad: -The infotainment, while at first looking cool with such a large screen, was unintuitive and a pain to use. The touchscreen climate control was also annoying. When shifting into drive after reversing out, the rear camera would continue for another minute (maybe there was a fix in the settings, but again, unintuitive and overly complex). -Ride was surprisingly harsh over larger, sharper bumps. This car had stock 18" wheels, and my passengers and I were surprised at the sound and harshness over LA's admittedly bad road surfaces. I'm not sure if the tires were runflats, but if they were, that's the first thing I'd change -For a luxury car with only 8k miles, there were more squeaks and rattles than I expected. -Lacked some features standard on a Corolla - specifically radar cruise control (or Distronic in MB terms) -Just didn't feel as special as I expected

Second time my car had to be towed

I researched this car for 7 months before I bought it and even though it is a whole new redesign and infotainment system I though to myself that maintaining a car like this one would be easy. Today is the second time this car had to be towed to a Mercedes Benz dealership within a 2 month period. I've driven the car to a destination, then returning back to the car the infotainment systems would turn on and every possible hazard lights would pop up on the dashboard and the car would not turn on. The SOS system would be deactivated, brakes, and any possible service features. The lights were one but noone was home as I"ve called this problems but no matter what i did the engine would never turn on. First time dealership said it needed a system update, now I'm waiting to see what the issue is this time. Ive researched other people testimonials and haven't found anyone else with this issues so Im not sure if its just my specific car, all I know that this is making me doubt if i should continue to hold on to this car.

I made the huge mistake of switching to Mercedes. I have had Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Nissan, Range Rover - you know it - I have driven it. My first Mercedes and I am ABSOLUTELY disappointed. From the first week I had this car it has been nothing but glitches and issues. The first week I had the car the screen malfunctioned had to bring it in. Several weeks later the ac wasn’t blowing cold air, had to bring it in. Today I had to travel about 1.30 to an important appointment and the check engine light started flashing and the car started misfiring on the highway !! I had to pull over and call Mercedes and they offered to send me a tow but informed me that to tow to a closer dealership to my home WOULD COST ME A FEE!!! Absolutely disgusting my Mercedes absolute embarrassment and disgrace. Terrible customer service. Never any courtesy cars available. I had to pay almost $100 for Uber to get home from the dealership because the “link” they sent me for Uber voucher didn’t even work !! Never have I ever had an issue with any vehicle and for a 2023 Mercedes it is just point blank embarrassing. Can’t wait to get rid of this junk box of a car.

Downsized from an E-Class

I waited a couple of months to get it due to the transportation difficulties but I did get what I wanted. To put it simply I can, the car is very advanced, and will take some time to learn all of its intricacies. Beyond the learning curve, I find it a pleasure to drive, knowing it's a very safe car with all of its safety features. Mind you, the extra features do add up quickly but at least to me, well worth it. What can I say, it's a very nice car, I'm happy with it, and if you're in the market for a compact luxury car, don't deny yourself a test drive.

Beautiful to look at and ride in, big displays are easy to read. Apple car play integrates well. Perfect highway cruiser. Hours of comfort for the passengers. Not sure why you would need an S Class with this car being so close.

We test drove several makes and models and I also own several makes and models of luxury vehicles. After spending weeks looking we finally settled on a Mercedes C300 4matic sedan. It is similar to the S-class in appearances and style but for a much more affordable price! We have it well optioned to include the AMG styling. The car handles like a dream! Steering is very responsive, ride is extremely comfortable and the gas mileage is where we wanted to get to - in the high 30s if you drive it like you care! It’s not a Tesla so it isn’t going to scream off the line but that’s not why you buy a C300, You buy it for the luxuriousness of a Mercedes and the German engineering that goes into it. I have a BMW, Lexus and Porche but this is now our favorite! If you are looking for Great comfort, classy style, German engineering, affordability and really decent gas mileage then this is the car for you!

C300 Sedan Better Everytime

This is my 3rd C 300 sedan 4matic and it just gets better and better with every generation. Smooth ride that is both quick and nimble from the start. Once most of the technology features are set they rarely need to be changed or adjusted as long as you set each driver up with their own name on the Home Screen. With most features being able to use voice activation things couldn’t be any easier to use. The German engineering keeps us coming back time after time.

There has been a lot written about this car and shifting around town. My experience has not been bad. I noticed at 500 to 1000 miles the transmission smooths out at low speeds. I am comparing this to a C300 I previously had. Beyond that, a really nice car that has a more premium look and feel to it than the C300. Yes, it is a firmer ride and handles different than the C300, but that is what you are buying a sports sedan more than a luxury ride sedan.

A lot of car. A lot more money. This is our fourth C300 and most likely, our last. Previously had a 2010 and a 2013, still have a 2015 I keep because that thing is a tank in the deepest snow, and well, it paid for. We bought a C300 with EVERY option except 19 inch wheels. The time to buy is end of month and end of year. Got a substantial discount for taking a floor model versus ordering like we usually do. Car is very quiet in side; tech is not too hard to learn since we’ve become accustomed to MB tech. We frequently get a warning on dashboard and linked phones” 12 volt starter battery low, run engine 20 minutes”. It’s a software glitch b/c we’ve yet to have an actual problem. The leather is beautiful albeit sweaty; the nav is unbelievable with the option to have it up on the huge center stack, the gauge cluster AND the heads-up display. Changeable customizable gauge cluster will even show tire temp/pressure, g forces, turbo boost, service due or it can just show speedo and clock. Acceleration is smooth, quick and with a pleasant growl and the engine cut-out at a traffic light is very smooth because of the integrated hybrid drive adapted from the Formula 1 technologies. The single most annoying thing is the touch pad on the lower center of the center stack. When you get in the car, it wants you to “sign in” so it can set your preferences. It’s a pain in the butt if running around town doing errands. I use my 2015 C300 for errands. The new body style has smaller door openings so you get in and out like a sports car. Sit your butt down and swing your legs in while duck so you don’t hit the back of your head. The best part of Benz ownership is all the compliments and attention we get. Isn’t that the whole point of a luxury car when a Toyota Camry can do most anything the C300 can for two thirds the money and much cheaper maintenance. One last thing: fuel economy. Normal driving is 32 mpg!!!! On the highway, turn on Distronic cruise and Agility Select to Economy and I get almost 39 mpg at 75 mph. Keep you hand on the wheel though, the steering wheel has capacitive touch so it knows when you cheating and the dashboard lights up in red. Amazing stuff. I am concerned about all the electronic stuff failing at some point but so far, so good at 8000 miles in 10 months. I don’t know where we go all the time but it seems like we go there a lot. (LOL).

2023 C300 Disappointed

I loved this car and I wanted to keep loving this car... I purchased this car 4 months old off of the showroom floor. Never test drove from the truck to the showroom floor. Purchased it Dec 2022, started off amazing. Love all of the amenities, loved the the interior & exterior luxury design, loved the way it drove & handled on the highway, the quick pickup speed & just loved the overall car. Unfortunately, 10 months later I begin noticing my car seem to be using more gas than usual, jerking while at a complete stop w/the foot on the break and high idling over 2000 when you cut it on. I took the car to Mercedes Dealership near me and they have ran computer test & everything came back with no issues, no lights ever came on the dash. The dealership is having to open a case on the car to have a higher technician engineer to come in and take the car apart to locate the problem. Very disappointed and frustrated with this experience. I gave it 3 stars and not 2 stars because I do actually love the car and my rating is with hope that they will find and fix the problem and I can fall back in love with it and build my trust in it again..

I've owned my brand-new C-Class for 10 months. During that time little annoying issues forced me to return to the dealer...rattles in the dash, squeaky seats, seatbelt not retracting, fingerprint identification not recognizing/responding. I expected more from a brand-new $52K Benz. Also, I never received a courtesy call from Mercedes at any time to confirm my satisfaction. I decided to trade it in on a Lexus and could not be happier...overall a better vehicle. And the salesman called and texted me to see if I were pleased or if I had any problems. Hmmm, a luxury car company that makes you feel special. What a concept.

The electronics are not user friendly with so many duplicated controls and a manual which is almost incomprehensible. Trying to use and setup the navigation quite beyond me. For instance when selecting destination on all my other navigation programs the first thing that pops up is Home but not on this over complicated thing the Home button is hidden several pages away. The car is generally over complicated with German over complicated controls not user friendly.

I was really excited about the new C43 as an upgrade to my AMG A35. The problems started less than a week after delivery. There is a major engine issue which is not being disclosed. I have only had my car available for less than a month since purchase in early November. They replaced my engine once and now say they need to replace it again. Thankfully Mercedes is cancelling my lease and I’m looking for another brand. Very disappointed as I’ve had Mercedes for several years and been happy until now. IGNORE MODEL BELOW, it is an inline 4 cylinder new engine which is the problem.

Needs Software Update - Beware

4/26/24 - I have now had my 2024 C300 purchased from MB of Athens for 30 days . We are still unable to use the navigation system as intended. The major reason for us buying the vehicle was so my wife would have a car with a state of the art navigation system. We, in my opinion have a new vehicle that has a flawed navigation system. The system is unsafe, distracting, and confusing. When you have the navigation system and the entertainment system both on, you hear those two things at the same volume. In other vehicles I have owned, the entertainment system automatically mutes so you can hear navigation announcements. The situation was discovered, when my wife tried to drive home from the dealership after delivery of the car. She had a bad confusing experience which in turn leads to a terrible car buying experience. On the way home after delivery of the vehicle, she called the salesman. She complained that she could not get the system to work correctly. It’s my opinion, that both my wife and the salesman became frustrated with each other: the salesman in trying to overcome a flaw in the car, and my wife trying to understand what she was doing wrong. I also had a bad experience when I took the car in 3 days later to find out what was wrong with the system. The software flaw in the navigation and entertainment system has caused a contentious relationship with the dealership. Awaiting a software fix from MB.

The Mercedes C-300 is a very beautiful and luxury car. However I do have concerns about the quality. First off, the infotainment had to be corrected after just several days of purchasing the car. Who has to take the car in for maintenance after a week? Second the dealership knew I purchased car out of town, so why am I being charged for mileage when they keep my car for an entire day? I was never treated this way when I purchased my BMW, excellent cuatomer service. Shame on you Mercedes.

I bought the 2023 mb c300 to replace my 2011 c300 sport. So, same car, 12 years newer. In 2011, I reviewed 8 cars, narrowed it down to 3 and couldn’t get past the lines and looks of the mb in Paladium silver and light tan interior. It was my dream car. While not a rocket, is had ample power, smooth shifting and I enjoyed driving it anytime I got in the car. I get attached to my vehicles ! I thought it handled very well ( not big on braking around corners if you don’t have to ) but felt every bump in the road with the low profile sidewalk tires and sport suspension. Surprisingly, it was a beast in the snow and never had problems in bad weather even with just the sport tires. Over the years, I would take a loaner from the dealer when in for service so I drove the newer models of the c class and mostly still liked mine better, especially the console gear shift versus the turn signal-like shifter on the new models. I liked being able to “tap down” the shifter to reduce speed down long hills and always felt like in complete control. It also was a very easy car to drive which is something car manufacturers rarely talk about. The speedometer goes up to 160 mph, but even if you get up to 80 mph on an interstate, the needle is only pointing straight up, halfway to the max. I don’t want to drive over 100 mph and think a max of 100 mph on the speedometer would be a very helpful, although “un macho” safety improvement. Just saying! So how does the 2023 compare ? Smoother power: 255 hp vs. 238 Smoother shifting: the 9 speed is fluid and seems to shift just when needed even better than the 2011, but the paddle shifters on the steering wheel don’t give the same feel with the electronic shifting compared to the old style gear feel. Smoother ride: the 2023 has a heavier car feel and nicer ride. Front seat has a nice fit feel and the steering wheel with my AMG package has a luxury/sporty feel and makes me want to drive with both hands on the wheel. Smoother ambiance with the interior lighting. While not really important, it gives a very classy feel when in the car in low light. Smoother sound: while the 2011 sound system had a somewhat “tinny” sound, the Burmeister system in the 2023 is better than my home stereo and with the Apple play screen it is like being in a concert hall. This is something important to me, especially on longer trips, and just adds to the overall driving pleasure. I paid about $39000 in 2011 and the new c300 was about $55000 with my options in 2023. So, $16000 more in 12 years. Worth it ? So far, I am very satisfied with my choice and time will tell.

Nothing wrong with the car except parts are not to be had at this time. I was told could be 6 months to a year if you would need certain parts for new car

We just traded our 2013 SL550 in on this. It was our loaner car from the dealership and we fell in love with it so we bought it. The color is almost the same as what we had, pearl white. It has the cranberry interior which is beautiful. The 10 years difference in technology is amazing. Everything is so easy to use whether from the steering wheel or the touch pads. It has some of the AMG upgrades including interior, wheels, rear spoiler, etc. which we love. The trunk is huge in comparison to our SL550. We loved having the sun roof open while driving to Vegas recently. Much quieter than the convertable top being down. The handling is amazing especially in Sport mode. The car is smooth and quiet on the road and a perfect road trip or around town car. I love all the safety features and the large screen as well. The stereo is amazing too. We have owned 7 Mercedes in the last 30 years and this one is my favorite one.

My 2023 C300 4Matic is a dream to drive and to ride in. A lot of people complain about the technology but I just set mine and forget it before I start driving, the same thing I would do in any car. Technology is mainly dangerous due to drivers paying too much attention to it than they should at inopportune times, and this car is no exception to that. I wish the mileage was a little better but on longer trips I get about 34mpg. The acceleration in this car is fantastic and the automatic transmission is smooth as silk. I also bought a dealer loaner with just under 5000 miles and got about $9500 off sticker price. An all around great purchase.

So far it drives very well. However, it’s still too early to give a comprehensive evaluation.
