Good amount of power, which is especially impressive at lower speeds. Very quiet, velvet smooth, and handles just fine on winding canyon roads. Small on the outside and a breeze to park. Love the luxury appointments and standard technology: rain sensing windshield wiper controls, power memory seats, and even a buzzer that goes off if it thinks you are getting drowsy. Plenty of room in the back seat for at least two adults. With the back seats folded down I can toss my bike in without taking off the front tire. The car is a little bit rough going over bumps, especially in the back seat. This may be partially due to the stiffness of the run flat tires. Wind noise is average. You probably should not buy this car as your only vehicle. The 70-110 mile range works for me because I rarely drive more than 60 miles in a day and we have 2 other cars. Update 2018: We traded in our leased 2014 for a new 2016 B250e to lease. It is just the same except for minor features and technology. My only problem is that the implementation of Android Auto is very flakey (Apple Carplay seems to work okay so far). Update 2019: Software update of Android Auto Apple CarPlay eliminated the problems. Now it is just slow to start and sometimes requires being plugged in a second time, just at the start.

Excellent Quality Small SUV

I bought my 2015 Electric Drive in November, 2015. Delivery was delayed due to a recall concerning drive system software. This was updated, and I have had no problems with the drive train. I currently own two BMWs, and I am impressed with the quality of the Mercedes. I bought the 250 Electric Drive for commuting and local trips around the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. After 2500 miles, it has fully met my expectations, and it has been very enjoyable to drive in day to day traffic. It has a Tesla supplied drive system, which gives excellent acceleration driving around town, especially from stoplights. I wanted a high quality, utilitarian small SUV electric car for driving locally, and this car has been perfect. I did not want: An ugly car (Leaf), a weird, futuristic car (BMW), a medium sized hatchback (VW), (Kia Soul) or a very expensive car (Tesla). It is nice to have several choices, and I made mine. Compared to a Tesla Model S, the battery is smaller, and the range is less; I feel that I got half of a Tesla for half the price of a Tesla. The Mercedes does have a stiff ride. I did not buy it as a luxury car, so I don't care. The Mercedes is heavier than the other electric cars that it is compared to, but it also has much more utility and is better quality. My only complaint is that the car did not come with a DC quick charge port. This is not an issue in driving around town, but it would be very useful for road trips. If you want an electric car that can do it all, buy a Tesla Model S or Model X. If you can't afford one of these, you must decide how you want to use the car and set your priorities, then purchase the car that best fits your needs.

Addicting acceleration, nice Mercedes trim

I was looking for an affordable electric car but wanted something family-friendly as I have 2 small children. I comparison shopped versus both the Nissan LEAF and the BMW i3, but the Mercedes won out because it has by far the best rear seat access and room (especially versus the ridiculously small i3). I wound up getting a 2014 model for a steep discount (purchased in January 2015). The car has been a pleasure to drive with instantly responsive acceleration that is utterly addicting and belies its Tesla drivetrain. Ride quality is a little stiff for what should be an entry-level luxury car. Interior fit and finish is comparable to other Mercedes; i.e., solid and rich-feeling. I did not opt for the premium navigation package, and the basic one is a little disappointing. Reliability hasn't been an issue - an earlier software glitch caused some cars (not mine) to suddenly shift into neutral at highway speeds; this has since been patched. Most importantly, it handles car seats and family cargo better than any other pure electric car that isn't a Tesla (if I could have afforded one of those, I'd be driving that instead). Update 2017: No problems so far! The car still drives well and the electric battery hasn't degraded appreciably - my range is still about the same. I have noticed that (like other electric vehicles) the range drops precipitously in freezing weather, especially if I use the heater (it has to burn electricity to generate heat, unlike an internal combustion engine car which uses waste heat to warm the cabin). I will say that the range indicator or "guess-o-meter" is extremely pessimistic, which can be a little scary sometimes. I've driven about 25 additional miles when it has said I was down to single-digit range. I guess it's better for it to be conservatively pessimistic than the other way around. I will point out though, that unlike my friends who drive Nissan LEAFs or Teslas, I have no high-voltage DC current quick-charge on the B-class. It's not even an available option. This means that it takes a full 4 hours to charge from completely empty (on a level 2 public charger or a dryer outlet at home), which makes the car utterly unable to do any kind of road trip. This car really is for local commuting only.

No more gas!!

Got the B class when my GLK lease ended. I have loved the GLK but hated paying for gas. I was spending over $200 on gas each month (I used the "good stuff" 91). So far tooling around for "free" (free charging station at work) has been awesome! Back to the B Class. What a treat! I like cooling/heating the car before I get in (up to 15min) and silently getting on the road. I had a prius before the GLK and hated when the engine would kick in at stop lights or when you went above 15mph (or so, I don't remember). Awesome sound system (I have the multi-media package). Voice command is greatly improved. Plus it is a Mercedes what else needs to be said about the quality of the car?

Leased the 2014 B-Class in June of 2015 for $260/mo including the 3 yr maint. Fit and finish is very good, on par with MB standard. Car feels solid and the style makes it blends in with most other vehicles on the road. Descent acceleration at stop lights. I got the multimedia and extended range pkg. The command center is nice, however, even a Hyundai can put a touch screen in their vehicle, and this MB cost twice as much and yet only has a fixed display the show limited info. Ventilation is poor for the back seats. If I have all the vents open in the front, there is very little air flow to the back. On damp days, if I do not have the A/C on, the windshield fogs up very quickly. Heating and cooling control was tucked way down in the center console, you have to take your eyes off the road and search for the button to make changes -- poor design. The 1-finger seat fold down design is a welcome improvement. So are the blind spot and 'too close' braking warning. The 'drift off lane' warning needs a program rewrite as it often gave false alerts when I make turns. The most important point of an EV - range. EPA and MB rated this car at 87 miles. I can only get 62-summer and 55-winter out of it. (Yes, warning for hot summer days (using A/C) and cold winter days (using heater), your mileage WILL vary!). This works OK during the week as I only have a 25 mile round trip commute. However, this limits/eliminates the usage for this vehicle for weekend trips (as EV charger are few and far in between in the tri state area). At lease for me, it is uncommon to travel over 30 miles 1-way to visit a friend/relative or my favorite bar/restaurant. The 60 mile range just doesn't cut it. I try the 110v/12A charger that came with the vehicle when I first got the vehicle - added 20 miles over a 24hr period. and the salesman assures me that I can charge the vehicle within 8 hrs with this level 1 charger, go figure! With a Clipper Creek HC40, this car needs 3.5 hrs to charge to 100%. The ride is very comfortable and very quiet. Entertainment system is OK considering the price of the car. Cost per mile is much better than my SUV but just a tag under the 30 mpg Corolla. So the savings will depend on which vehicle are you replacing. Range charge time, and available charging stations remains to be the weak points for these EVs (at lease at the time this review was written Jan2016). At end of lease (Jun 2018) Overall, the car is pretty good. Range remains to be the short fall of this EV. In summer time, I can get 80+ miles over 1 charge, but at cold winter days, I can only get approx 55 miles out of 1 charge. This means I have to have a gasoline car as back up for longer distance trips. Cooling remain to be poor for the back seats. I have to turn off some of the vents in front to force the cool air to the back seat vents. Car come with ride-flat tires and cost more to repair for punctures. At the end of lease, I have only 28,000 miles and Mercedes said the tires are already worn out of minimum thread depth (1/4") and I need to replace them prior to return. Mercedes also required a yearly maint. for lease vehicles and the cost of that for a EV is $1,000 each year, Pricy. Not sure if it is the tire or the car, but this combination perform poorly on snow. Front seat is comfortable. Rear seat (I don't have a lot of chance to seat at the back) is good, according to the opinions of my passengers. Front seat AC is very good, back is poor. Cargo room is small but the rear seats do fold down, that gives some decent room to carry medium stuff. Acceleration is good. Tire traction is poor. Flooring the accelerator cause front tire to slip a little even on dry roads. Both interior and exterior fit and finish is good. Seat cushions are nice and firm. All in all, I like EVs. Don't have to scout for low gasoline prices, don't have to worry about radiator or engine Oil, zero emission. The Merceds B-class is comfortable and nice. Range and price is the short fall for this car. I would definitely buy or lease another EV, just with want to wait for the next gen where they have longer range and lower prices.

I've been driving my B class electric for 2 months now. I truly enjoy every time I get in this car. It is surprisingly quick off the line and passing on the highway. Okay, it's not a Tesla S, but it is a great car for half the price (the battery and motor are from Tesla). Mine has the Range package which includes the range extender (haven't used it yet), the heated windshield, the Harmon-Kardon sound system and the extra sound-proofing insulation in the doors and roof. This makes it a very quiet car. The sound system is much better than any car I've ever owned (may be partly due to the lack of engine noise). I drive it every day for commuting. UPDATE: have now been driving this car for over 2 years and still love it. Off the line it's very quick, overall it's quiet, very spacious, elegant and comfortable inside. gets much farther on a charge (100 mi) than my girlfriend's Leaf (60-70 mi). The only downside is the lack of a DC fast charge port. I'm hoping MB will increase the range and add DC FC capability. Update: Still love this car-it is a blast to drive. Easily gets 100 miles per charge. Lease will be up in a few months and would love to get another one, but disappointed MB hasn't come out with a longer range version. I may have to go with the Bolt or the rumored 200 mile Leaf, but I know they don't have the MB quality.

A great value, despite being anomalous for M-B USA

These vehicles have commonly been leased/sold at considerable discounts to MSRP in low volume. Compared to the M-B vehicles offered at similar MSRP that we have driven as dealer loaners, such as the C-class and the GLA/GLC, the B-class is better appointed inside for couples or families, and is much less costly to own and operate. This is our first electric vehicle, and our first Mercedes-Benz. We were attracted, in large part, due to its safety, performance, interior room, and the fact that it doesn't have an "electric car" outward appearance. A set of BBS RX wheels further eliminated the "electric car" look. The fact that the B-class is sold in various configurations worldwide, and the Tesla-sourced motor abetted our confidence in selecting the electric drive U.S. version. After 2 years, we are still very happy with the B-class and our decision, we are more educated about electric vehicles, and we would repeat the decision similarly, perhaps with the exception of insisting upon the range extender package to ameliorate our sub-freezing use of the vehicle and to better accommodate longer weekend getaway trips. Information risk was higher than average at the time of purchase, but the choice of the B-class over competing electric vehicles (and not in relation to any other M-B product) has proven to be a good selection. Understated value may be the theme here, and I'm glad we were able to spot it. Many of the benefits of the B-class over other electric vehicles are not those that are easily represented in comparison charts, just as many operating benefits of electric vehicles are not easily represented in comparison charts. If M-B revamped this model, or produced another electric vehicle at or below $65,000 MSRP, we'd be in the market. In the meantime, we'll be watching the used market prices as these vehicles come off-lease. Sometimes the dealer attempts to charge for the periodic battery dessicant changes, which are in fact warranty items for the 2014 year model we have, but they have always adjusted bills after being presented the correct information. The first service part was been the charge port door latch, which intermittently failed to latch closed, and was replaced under warranty. The second was related to the recall of the motor drive ECU, after an intermittent transmission warning light was not resolved by firmware updates, also covered under warranty.

Mercedes B Electric - great car

With federal and state incentives as well as Mercedes trying to move he lady of the 2015 models, we were able to lease a new 2015 B Electric for less than what we could have for an economy car. The car feels like a Mercedes though the narrow wheels combine with vehicle weight, means that road holding and breaking performance is not great. The range extender model gives us just over 100 miles when needed. This is our first electric car and we will never go back to internal combustion engines. Looking forward to EVs with 200 mile ranges that are more affordable.

USED Buyers BEWARE

Bought my '14 B class used in June of '16 off a lease very cheap. In nearly 5 years I've driven over 60,000 miles and the car is great. More general pros than cons and the car has generally been trouble free. HOWEVER, there is a gasket seals issue in the motor that will cause coolant to leak into internal motor components that will eventually cause a full seizure of the motor. This is a "when" not "if" scenario. Costs for a motor replacement or rebuild range from $5,000 to $10,000. Do your due diligence before purchase and try to find out if the motor has been replaced already. Otherwise there is a simple test to see if the coolant leak is present. Find the video on YouTube called "Mercedes B-Class/B250e Drive Unit Coolant Leak Check". It will save you in the long run, trust me.

GREAT CITY CAR

Mercedes quality, solid construction, good performance and utility, fun to drive, and great value on the used market. The only down sides are limited range by present day standards, and a charge rate that maxes out at Level-2, which is about 3.5-hours at best. The B250e is perfect for around town transportation, and there is an upside of the limited range, a small drive battery is lighter and will be much less expensive when it's time for replacement. If you are considering buying one of these, make certain that the 8-year/100k mile drive battery warranty is certified by a Mercedes Benz franchised dealer as valid; important because an annual and free of charge battery check by an M-B dealer is required to maintain the warranty. If one annual battery check is missed, the warranty is no longer valid and can't be reinstated.

After one year of driving... Still love this car. The radar interval control will not override the cruise control, to me this is a safety fault. No Apple Play or Android, the Garman maps are a POS. Software and map updates are not free and are expensive. Voice control is minimal, can’t say, “directions to...” and have the maps plot a course, or input destination with Voice. Voice control of the phone is OK but could use some refinement. Below 58 degrees the mileage drops into the 60s, above 60 degrees mileage is in the 80s on a full charge. Using the extended range 100 miles is easy. ORIGINAL REVIEW #1 is this is a city or commuting car not a Holliday car. It has about a 100 mile range and no level 3 charging capability. Instant power, would be a formidable stop light racer. #2 it is all Mercedes and what you would expect from Mercedes. Love all the technology (you will see lots of electronic controls as you open various doors and hatches) and if I could add one improvement it would be a touch screen - I am so used to my iPad that I want to use my fingers. #3 To me at 5’ 10” and 250 lbs the seat could be an inch wider. Run flat Mitchelin tires so no spare and storage room under the rear deck where the spare would normally be. #4 Items not installed that I believe help define a Mercedes. No control to lower and stow the rear headrests. No tool kit. Miniscule first-aid kit. #5 Safety, all the usuall items like ABS, traction control, stability control, radar assisted interval control, etc. However this is so neat. The car essentially weighs you, calculates your height from you foot position, and in an accident scenario will independently tighten your seat belt with an explosive charge, and deploy the airbags in a sequence to best protect you. Driver and passenger each has four airbags.

Underdog

We've been leasing the 2014 (without range extender) for a year and a half. It is our second car, used for SF Bay Area local driving. There are many reviews complaining about charging capabilities and technology and range and value. For us, this was the best value for our small family. I'm 6'2, and frequently ride in back with our small daughter. There is as much space for me as in my Audi A6 wagon. We got this car instead of the i3 because of the subtle styling, and the fact that it handles worlds better, and is more usable in the real world for a family. I'm a big fan of the concept of the i3, and all of the technology it brings to the auto industry, but Riding in the back seat of the BMW is a horrible experience, without operable windows, no handles, and the squirrelly ride, not to mention the suicide door entry. It's great for a work commute, but not for taking the family to the grocery store or the beach. If you want a premium car, and need it for real life short trips, this is it. Pros: interior space. Fit and finish, quiet, quick, regenerative braking modulation by paddle shifters , safety. Cons: should be rear wheel drive (too much torque for front wheel drive), needs charging port lighting.

Great bargain as a used EV

I've had my 2014 model for 5 months. I paid around $17,000 for it. If you can live with the limited range (perhaps 62 miles in winter, as high as 100 in spring) and 3-4 hour charging it's a wonderful car. New, this one had an MSRP of almost $50,000. You can find these cars at various places around the country in the $17k-$24k range, some with very low miles. Mine came from Maryland originally, but landed on a used car lot here in N.C. So what's the car like? Well visibility is superb. It seems to have no blind spots, but just in case, the blind spot monitor indicators are large and bright. The rear view mirrors seem extra large too. Leather-like seats with umpteen-way adjustment are excellent. For a 2014 car the tech is excellent (I guess that accounts for the high MSRP). Still seems current in 2019 (as long as you don't drive a Tesla). Acceleration is very exciting, faster than M-B wanted to admit (it made their other cars look sick). Cargo space is large and easily accessible. This car has the Harmon-Kardon sound system which is very impressive. Like somebody else said in comments, I enjoy this car every time I get to drive it. Local M-B dealer here in Raleigh, NC never sold the car, but offers full support for it. I had some repairs (NAV died, steering loose, struts replaced) done under warranty, so I don't know the cost outside of warranty... could be fearful from what I hear about Mercedes (this is my first). I was able to get a 3-yr extended warranty for $2600. I have a Tesla Model X as well, and this car is still the car of choice for shorter trips and places with tight parking. Seems like the best car on the market right now, at least for me. Reviews of Chevy Bolt, e-Golf and BMW i3 indicate much less uncomfortable interiors. The i3 in particular does no favors for the rear passengers. In my car they have their own fold-up tray tables!

I added up my cost of ownership (purchase and repairs) divide it by the miles driven to the point where the repairs exceed the value and got $1.01per mile driven!! big mistake. The cost of the motor replacement was $8,600 and the internal charger $9,800, plus other repairs totaled over $22,000.

Buyer beware- Tesla motors fail regularly

I’d love to love this car, but it is fatally flawed. You'd think the Tesla powerplant would be a selling point. Instead, it is an Achilles heel. These early generation motors fail 2/3 of the time before 60,000 miles. The repair is $16,000 to $19,000. I know because after four months at the local MB dealer in Santa Monica, the car still isn’t repaired. Don’t buy this car.

Looked at a Tesla but could not find a comfortable seat position. Went to Mercedes and they had a B-class electric that had just came off lease with 13k miles. We were impressed by its MB quality fit & finish. As others have said the seats seemed hard but two years later we find them quite comfortable. The 20k service is only $130 compared to over $600 every 10k miles of my old MB. The Garman maps are a bust at $300 to upgrade every year so we use Google maps on our iPad that are always up to date. Driving in Eco mode we can get 90+ miles on a regular charge and 115+ mile in extended range mode. Very quiet except for road/tire noise from the run flat tires (no spare tire). Good head room with a hat on, very good rear seat leg room, and reasonable cargo space for a small SUV. Does not have adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking. Parts are expensive. Had a tree limb fall during a storm breaking a rear view mirror, $1500 repair. Had a battery pack heater go out, $2500. Update 4/22: 35K miles. Still love the car. The standard charge at 80% still gives 80+ miles (EPA is 85 miles). Using high charge and E+ mode is good for 100+miles. I might use the high charge mode once or twice a year.

Died After 24000 Miles

2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive B 250e 4dr Hatchback (electric DD)

Absolutely loved the car but 3 months after the warranty expired the drive motor gave out. The cost to repair was over $16,000. The car only had 24,000 miles on it. Waiting to see if Mercedes will stand behind their vehicle but if not I wouldn’t even consider buying any electric vehicle from Mercedes.

Major Problems with this vehicle!!

We took delivery of our brand new 2015 B-Class Electric at the end of June, by the end of the first week it had already had to go back to the dealership twice. There is a major safety issue with this vehicle. The vehicle will tend to stall and shut down while driving. It will give no warning when this happens. As you are driving, it will go to full Regen mode and you cannot do anything until you come to a complete stop, turn off the car then you can restart the vehicle and go on your way. Try doing that when you get stuck on the freeway. It is now back at the dealer for a third time for this problem!! Supposedly, Mercedes will performing a recall for this issue. They state that it is a software issue. We really enjoyed this car, and I think the EV's will be the future. However, this car will not be in our future as we started the buyback process This car has some really nice features and the fit and finish are really good. There are some features which are seriously lacking for an EV, especially a Mercedes. First, no Quick Charge port or capability. Not even a option for it!! The app that is supplied for this car has to be one of the worst apps ever. Most of the time it does not work and when it does, the information is incorrect. There is no possible way to set charging times inside the vehicle. Also, there is nothing built into the car showing that the car is charging. No is no type of LED light on the dash or by the charge port showing that the car is charging. It is too bad that Mercedes came up with this half-baked attempt at a Electric Vehicle. It does not speak well for both Mercedes or Tesla. Tesla makes the Battery and powertrain for the B-Class. Since they have parted ways, Tesla offers little to no support to Mercedes for any service issues. That is way they are buying back my vehicle, Mercedes cannot figure out what is going on. There are better choices out there for Electric vehicles, it just too bad that most of them are so ugly, i.e BMW i3, Nissan Leaf!!

We loved the first which b250 (in white) that I bought for my wife, she turned around a month later and brought me the blue one. We had a Tesla Model 3 on order, but after seeing the stellar Mercedes quality versus a TSLA build, and the exceptional service from our dealer, the b's were a no brainer !

First off, I bought my B-Class used with 10,500 miles for approx. $22k (after taking into account my state tax credit that applies to used electric cars that haven't been titled in my state) - had I paid full price, I'm sure I would consider the value much less. That said, for an electric car, it's exceeded my expectations. The interior and cargo area are roomier than other similar options and it has the Mercedes look and class. The visibility is amazing with few blind spots though I agree the ventilation could be improved and windows will fog on rainy days unless you continually run the system. While I was nervous about actual range based on others' reviews and some fast driving by myself when I first acquired the car, I've personally found that if you drive somewhat efficiently you can easily make it 90-105 miles on a full charge if you include a good chunk of highway miles in the trip - just this weekend I drove 68 miles round trip from Denver up to elevation in a few different locations in the foothills and back and still had more than 40% of my battery left. I was impressed. That said, battery life significantly reduces in the cold, esp if you turn the heater on. Then I expect no more than 55 miles to be safe. The only down side is that you feel every pot hole and bump fully. No, I won't use this car for long road trips but I knew it wasn't ideal for that going in and couldn't be happier with this car.

3-kid seats across solid electric

Electric Dad, 07/05/2017

Was looking for a safe, solidly built electric with modest range for a short commute and weekend errands that could substitute for the kid-hauling minivan in a pinch. Prior to purchase, I did extended test drives (1 day or more) of the Nissan Leaf, Prius Plugin Hybrid, Fiat 500e, and BMW i3, plus a short test drive of the Ford Fusion Energi -- and the B-Class was the only one that satisfied all our criteria. Comfortably fits our 3 car seats in the back seat, including an infant car seat which is not especially narrow. Surprisingly roomy trunk -- unplanned stop at IKEA and was able to haul away a dining table, bench and a stack of pre-assembled chairs; able to throw a bike in back. With seats up, can easily handle a standard grocery trip or light trip to Costco. Unlike most other manufacturers, MB offers a standard 4-year bumper-to-bumper warranty which makes buying used a bit more reassuring. Unlike most other compact electrics, has a solid, quality, luxury feel that you would expect from MB and feels safe at highway speeds. 85 miles on a standard charge, extendable with the extended range option. Recommend getting one with the paddle shifters to easily adjust regenerative braking while driving . Only gripe is some of the display tech and navigation feels a bit dated (more like 2008 than 2014).

Used Car WARNING

As MB’s first real attempt to put their metaphorical toes in the shallow end of the EV pool...not too shabby. As MB explores the deeper end of the EV pool by putting out a new larger SUV, I suspect there will be quite a bit more attention payed to this model as it’s product line ended in 2017. As interest rises, supply drops, prices will likely NOT drop quickly or MAY actually increase...for those that value a luxurious EV (for a EV), the MB brand, and a relaxing daily commuter. This is a really good car; but unfortunately, not a really great one. First, the obvious. If you’re already researching EVs, then you probably already know the lack of a quick charger option. From my understanding this was because MB used an ICE platform and there was not enough room to add a second (quick charge) port. Let’s set the record straight. There is absolutely no competition with this car among EVs with similar ranges. Some may want you to think that BMW’s i3 is the obvious competition. That is not true in the slightest. The i3 IS a really good car... if you’re interested in a futuristic appearing, 1000 pounds lighter, marginally quicker, flighty handling EV on the highway due to its rail thin tires. So you see, the i3 targets completely different demographics than MB’s small EV. The other comparisons like, the Nissan LEAF, VW e-golf, Ford Focus EV etc. etc. also targets completely different demographics. So, the MB EV is in a league of its own. So the good stuff is that it’s a short range luxury EV with absolutely no competition. Although the listed range is 87ish, to add insult to injury, the real range is around a 100 miles due to the way Tesla configured the drivetrain and battery. There’s lots of literature about that, so I won’t bore you with the details. Now the not so good stuff. There are things like a rear camera that much cheaper EV’s have as standard equipment is ONLY an option with the MB EV! Don’t assume anything when purchasing this EV. Make sure every option you want on a car is available. The base price of this EV when compared to an i3 is about the same. But like Tesla’s model 3, options can drive the cost of the vehicle to nosebleed heights, quite a few EV’s are NOT what many consider “fully loaded”. Lastly, buy an extended warranty, no such thing of a cheap Mercedes when it comes to repairing them!

Took a chance in March 2021 and bought one with 10K miles off a California lease even though they have never been sold in our state. Found a local independent MB shop which looked it over and can do minimal service but the MB dealer won't touch it. So even with limited service options we figured it was worth a try to dip our toes into the EV world. After 4 months it's been perfect for scooting around town with normal driving of 100-ish miles per week. Installed a level 2 charger and now top up the charge in a couple of hours twice a week. Solid yet nimble to drive. Limited range doesn't matter since we still have a big ICE Volvo wagon when the need arises. Very happy with it.

Wonderful bargain as a used car purchase

Back when my 2014 B Class Electric was new it retailed for $49,000. It was leased to the first owner, I suspect at a much lower valuation. This is one of those "compliance" cars build by manufacturers to earn ZEV credits in states like California and few others. This includes Maryland, where mine came from. The range is about 85 miles, more or less. On the coldest day it gets 62, or days in 60's it claims 100 mile range. It's all electric and takes 3+ hours to charge, so this range has to work for you. But if it does, you have a wonderful car. They can be had used for $18k to $25k. Produced from 2014-2017. The B-Class vehicle is sold widely in Europe with petrol and diesel engines, but this electric model is the only one ever sold in the USA. The design is very sophisticated, with lots of attention to detail. The umpteen-way adjustable memory seats are excellent, head and leg room is ample, ease of entry/exit is perfect, large cargo area, nice rear seat legroom. Tech includes Bluetooth, USB, Blind Spot Monitoring, some sort of basic collision avoidance (the car beeps and reduces power if it thinks you're about to hit something), great back-up camera, mine has the Harmon-Kardon stereo which sounds really great (and I don't usually pay attention to car stereo sound). This is my first Mercedes and I had to have several repairs done under warranty, so long term reliability is unknown. Hopefully the simple electric drivetrain (from Tesla, by the way) will sidestep a lot of typical Mercedes headaches. This is a wonderful car, and as of May 2019 there's really nothing quite like it. Perhaps the Bolt, but you'll pay more since they're new, and the seats are supposedly awful. I had a Gen2 Chevy Volt, which has great tech, but not as much storage, a little slower, much more cramped back seats, and very awkward entry/exit for my stiff old bones. Riding in the Mercedes feels like a special treat... every day! And as a 2nd car, it has about twice the range I actually need most of the time.

loved the car but 3 months after warranty expired it stopped going in gear. It wasn't driving, reverse or neutral while on. Had no major problems, no service notifications, no warnings. Mercedes of Atlantic city estimated repairs at $15,000.00. I am still in state of shock from this.

An EV Benz with a Tesla Drive Train, Battery

Martin Schulter, 10/11/2015

This is a rare and unique Benz that's evolved from the B car originally sold only in Canada (gas). The fact that Tesla has partnered with Benz to design, develop manufacture the drive train, batter, engine and ship it to Germany so that Benz can assemble it into their vehicle tells you more than anything else. Let's face it Tesla makes the finest EV cars, batteries you can get - not considering price point. That coupled with the fact that Benz offers an incredible lease deal: a $49,500 B literally loaded requires no more than $4,500 down and about $360 a month depending on what else you add to the lease like maintenance, no fault nicks small dents etc. The B is roomy, all Benz from materials, handling, quality to sharp looking looking EV. Remarkably well designed with all new hi-tech command system incorporating the latest apps smart looking fairly large command screen and all the usual Benz options: driver assistant w/lane change warning, 6 months free MBRACE & Serius Satellite, memory seats, etc. One negative for the 2015 is the limited range: average 85 miles. I understand that the 2016 iOS that to about 115, which is a significant boost allowing more options before charging. The B also needs on board high speed charging. Overall rating A.
