Best car that I have ever owned

I bought the car last month and sold my old 1979 300SD. The 190E 2.6 IS th best driving car I have ever owned. Handling and acceleration are fine tuned so that whether you want a quiet sunday drive or an exilerating country road sporty drive you get it all. The design of this car is virtually timeless. I have people ask me all the time if the car is a '98 or a 95. Anyone considering a 190E 2.6 that is in good shape should buy it regardless of the mileage because odometer numbers mean NOTHING to a BENZ.

This is my first car, after driving trying many cars, even a couple years old Mercede's, and of course the American cars (all worthless cars), the 190E was the one for me, fits me perfectly, gets me from point A to point B in style and unbelievably fast, a lot of critics claimed this car was under-powered, I strongly disagree, this car is old, but still in style and looks new after all these years.

one fine piece of metal

My 190e has 242,000 miles on it. Runs like new. Very smooth ride, good acceleration even though it is a 4 cyl 2.3l. Fun to drive. I just love it. I owned Honda, BMW and Ford but I have to say that the 190e left them all behind. Just needs regular maintenance with quality parts and it will last you a life time. The only problem I faced lately was overheating because of a bad fan clutch and that was a cheap job and never overheated again. I will definitely keep this car regardless of mileage.

I purchased this vehicle with 174,000 miles. I have to admit the fact that it was a 5-speed (super rare), I was somewhat willing to accept all the risks that come with a high mileage car. But I have to say after 3K miles later, I've never been so love with a car before. Sure, it could be the upgraded suspension (H&R springs and Bilstien Sport shocks), not to mention the factory Mercedes CLK wheels the previous owner added. It's just been a pleasure to drive. No, it does not have a 0-60 mind blowing time. But at higher speeds it will surprise you how capable she is. Just the combination of luxury, fuel economy, and spunk the 5speed tranny bring - very, very satisfied.

All-Around Better Than You'd Expect

The car is actually a 1987 190e 2.6 with power seat/headrests and ABS. I have driven this car 3000 miles since purchase and I have to say that of all 40 cars I've ever owned - this Baby Benz gets the award for best all-around automobile. It's comfortable, quiet, economical on the gas, roomy and has tons of trunk space. The 170hp engine never fails to surprise!. The car simply does everything better than you would expect. At 23 years old, it feels and drives like it's brand new - a testament to the build quality of Mercedes Benz.

Wonderful little car

When a relative (the proverbial little old lady) gave us this car last year, it had 15,000 miles on it. Now it has 25,000 and is still in flawless condition. It is the perfect size for a small family sedan, but not big enough for long trips with more than 2 people. I would have thought the gas mileage would be a little better. 20 mpg is all she gets, and premium fuel is required. Edmunds tells me the trade-in value of this car is $3,500! If I could find 10 of these cars, with 25,000 miles or less, in cherry condition I would buy them all.

Solid and Reliable

I can't believe my car runs over 180K Miles since it is very solid and reliable. Parts are readily available many places including web-sites. Small negative is the oil leakage. It seems most of the car in the same style have the same problem. Still it has excellent value for the price.

Nervous new owner of High mileage Benz

I Just bought 190E, 2.6 yesterday (used lot), dealer sold me car but did not point out what's wrong with car. I love the handling and comfort features of the car but I am worried about the mileage on car(171K). I also found out that it is costly ($400.00) to fix the door lock which will not lock. The reviews from others here, helped me to relax about the mileage and made me feel like part of the Benz family because I do have oil leaks and yellowed headlight glass! Thank you all for your input and reviews. I have never owned a Mercedes and I look forward to enjoying the car with peace of mind about what is the norm for this model and make of car and also in knowing that I can come here for info

Very Happy with my 190

This is my second 190. Had the 2.3 but moved into the 2.6 10 years ago. What a difference! The 190 2.6 is a mimi 560SEL. Have made intermitent replacements (i.e. radiator/O2 sensor/altenator/shocks) but it still is a strong car. Would not hesitate to drive it cross country and back tomorrow..12 years old and 207k miles! The last model of the realiable "Baby Benz"!

My 190 is Hot

I have used my baby for about 3 years now. I must confess, I've never driven a Mercedes better than this one. Starts in the mornings very well, fuel economy is fantastic. Transmission is so smooth (soft clutching system) Suspension is very tough, never changed my shock absorbers. I've not fixed anything in the engine so far. No kick or alternator problems. It's just the perfect ride. I'll recommend it to anyone who cares to know.

A True Masterpiece

We (my family) own a 300E, a larger version of a 190E, but Edmunds doesn't list it so: The 300E is one of the greatest cars ever made! It drives soo smooth, is so comfortable, and after 157,792 miles, it drives like it's brand new. It's interior is really classy and comfortable. We've only had to replace a 3 parts on since we bought it at 105,000 miles. If you are looking at an affordable Mercedes between $8,000-$14,000 dollars, get this! I sure hope my dad gives me this powerful classic.

Me and my friend Benjamin V. have had this car for about 7 years. We bought it used in 1995. We got it for a resonable price. It runs really nice. We haven't had to replace any parts since we got it. It is very classy. The only downside of this car is the foot room. It needs more. I go to family events and it's hard to squish people in the back.

I brought this car from an older couple and I have fallen in love with the car. It drives so smooth and it really can get in and out of traffic perfect. I would not trade this car in for anything.

My most prized vehicle

This car is was the most dependable vehicle I ever had. The more miles that I put on it, you couldn’t even tell. With normal maintenance and upkeep, this vehicle was a gem! The only reason I sold it was because unfortunately age and miles went way longer than it should have and the cost of repair became too much for a young adult. They do not make cars like these anymore.
