2024 Mazda CX-90 SUV Consumer Reviews

CX-90 competes with prestige brands? You betcha!
Purchased the Turbo S Premium model -- 340 HP. I read dozens of professional reviews before test driving locally and buying. Brand new vehicle so you may have to expand your search away from home to find the model / trim that you want. I got the version with captain's chairs in 2nd and 3rd row so mine seats 6. Bench seat also available if you prefer that. Pros: great acceleration with top notch handling and comfortable ride. Soaks up bumps well. Very quiet on highway. Great Bose stereo. I have to disagree with many of the professional reviewers -- I like the scroll wheel interface rather than touch screen -- less distracting. Bought a brand new 2021 Audi Q7 and got rid of it after a year -- great vehicle but I hated the touch screen interface -- Audi not intuitive and very frustrating. I had a 2019 Mazda CX-9 for 4 years and liked the interface - one of the big reasons I was attracted to the CX-90. Cons: as other reviewers have noted - limited space for storage in front cabin and behind 3rd row. Turbo S Premium model that I bought does not have ventilated front seats, so you may want to avoid black interior. Paddle shifters are there, but I prefer to shift with my own with the gear selector as I did my old CX-9 but can't do with the CX-90. Overall, I think that Mazda has hit a home run with this vehicle. Those looking for a prestige brand or more cargo room will definitely look for another brand. But I like it better than the 2021 Audi Q7 that I owned. Dealer experience: Picked up the CX-90 at Huffman Mazda in Louisville, over 100 miles from home to get the model I wanted. Well worth the drive - top notch customer experience, no games, no nonsense customer experience. Finalized a very fair deal via email and phone.

Beautiful but not reliable
There are a ton of pros about this car. It literally checked all the boxes that I didn’t even know I had until driving it. I have just over 6,000 miles on it after owning the Turbo S Premium Plus model for 6 months. I’ll try to keep this short and sweet. The pros are numerous: ride quality, aesthetics, quiet cabin, safety, etc etc. but the cons, though they are few, are now outweighing all that this car has to offer. It’s been in the shop 5 times. Much to Mazda’s credit; the customer service has been phenomenal. But I’m tired of taking it in. The problems I’ve had: Driver side mirror shakes at high speeds on the highway. Which they have replaced but the new one shakes the exact same. Two separate recalls. Minor in nature. Front doors rattling. Fixed by the service department and quiet as a mouse now. Grinding noise heard 100% of the time coming from behind the steering wheel. Which I have to take it in the shop in a couple days. I’ll update after that ordeal. And the biggest one: the transmission is anything but smooth. It is clunky. Jerky, jumps, delays, and down right irritating. To the point where it’s kind of stressful and does not leave one with the feeling that this vehicle is not going to last. I would not recommend it. As nice as it looks. They missed the mark on the transmission and build quality.

It's a great "drivers" SUV at a reasonable price.
Purchased mine on 9/25/2023, and, I still have smile on my face. My wife and I are in our mid 70's, no grand kids yet, and, this was the perfect SUV for us. I'm a Mazda fan and still own a 2013 Miata MX5 converitble as my fun in the sun toy. The Preferred Plus trim was perfect of us as we needed a 2nd row bench seat, which is not available on upper trims, for our dogs. 280hp is more than enough power for hwy merging and has ample passing power when needed. Like all Mazdas this is a "drivers vehicle". Great handling, good power, and, the fit and finish is fantastic. Test drove the Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, and, Hyundai Palisade, which were okay, but none of them drive like this CX90. Yes, those have more cargo space, and, legroom in the 3rd row, but that was not a necessity for us. I traded a 2018 VW Atlas V6 I had for 5 1/2 years and it was cavernous like the other 3 I test drove. However, none of these are a "drivers vehicle" like this CX90. The Turbo charged 3.3 liter at 280hp uses regular gas, and, gets better gas mileage than the others. If you want a midsized SUV that has more than adequate power, fantastic handling, and, the best fit and finish of any vehicle in its price range, the CX90 is a real winner. Especially in the Preferred Plus trim. It's both Zoom Zoom, and, superb handling all in one package. Personally, I don't have a single dislike.
CX-90 Turbo S Prem Plus in Artisan Red and Tan Int
20,000 mile update: Coming up on 2yrs ownership. My full review below still holds true. ALL the 'new for 2024' features still impress me, the fuel mileage is still 24city/29.5+ highway, and we still love the look/interior/engine-trans. After 1yr using Premium fuel, we began only using Regular Unleaded with no real change perceived in performance AND it makes me smile at the pump to use the lowest-cost gas when my neighbors are pumping premium. Only downside to ownership is the many recalls of this 'first-year' model AND that our local Mazda Dealer has totally FAILED in providing and "upscale, luxury ownership experience". I am very happy with our new 2024 CX-90 which replaced a destroyed 2018 CX-9 Signature (Auburn Leather interior). Bought one of the 1st ones in GA on Mar31st, '23. Have driven 1,300 miles in the 2 months I have owned it and done both sporty driving and one long, 200mile, roadtrip at 60-80mph the whole drive. 25mpg combined and 29.5mpg highway! I will be brutally fair in my likes and dislikes: LIKES: 1. This 3.3L Inline6 turbo and new 8spd auto tranny are a gem! Powerful and smooth, 340hp with Premium gas BUT the owners can choose to fill with Regular and power only drops to 319hp and no change in the 369lb-ft torque! 2. That large glass pano roof is great and it should have been on the later CX-9s too. 3. At the top trims ($59K+) the Tan or white interiors are amazing (at lower trims I would have wanted the "Greige"). My Tan interior with exclusive 2-tone leather wheel is very upscale. 4. Heated and cooled seats in ALL Capt chairs (4!). 5. The Driver Personalization features and the sporty way this SUV drives makes me smile everyday, wow. DISLIKES (well, I dont really dislike anything...so these are just "misses" for the Mazda engineers); 1. The seats are FIRM (good for sporty driving) but my CX-9 Signature was a good bit more comfortable when driving over an hour. 2. Very little room for your feet in 3rd row IF you have 2nd row Capt chairs. Having the center console in 2nd row makes this situation even worse. 3. The Pano roof only opens up about 6 or 7 inches...should be TWICE that since this vehicle is so large. 4. The best real wood accents are ONLY offered in the White interior AND only if you are at Turbo S PP trim (max trim level at $61,000+). The other trims (including mine) have a darker, more "processed" wood trim which actually doesnt look natural AND has been reviewed as fake wood applique by reviewers (even though Mazda USA confirmed my Tan interior had real wood). Either way, this brown CX-90 wood looks fake and my CX-9 Signature had MUCH nicer interior wood. 5. The rear window glass doesnt roll all the way down into the door! Now I KNOW you cannot push a big piece of glass into a small space AND the rear wheel well is the reason it cannot go fully down, I get that...but at $66,000 including tax, youd better ENGINEER it so it disappears, period. Otherwise charge me 40,000 dollars for this CX-90 so I dont feel bad when I roll down the rear window and it feels like I am in a KIA Minivan because my window stops 3/4 of the way down. These small dislikes are VERY minor compared to the GREAT driving experience and this hot new Inline6 turbo motor! I smile every time I drive it fast and every time I gas up and see I got 25, 26, or 27mpg on that tank while my neighbors are getting 16-19 in their 6 and 7 seaters. THANK YOU Mazda!

So far, so good! Update still great!
I have owned my CX-90 Preferred Plus for several weeks driving it so I now am able to provide some perspective. I traded in a 2020 Honda Passport. Similar horse power but different torque. Quarks.....The main thing that I have to get used to is the Hybrid system of how it starts the car going. Not necessarily something that bothers me but something that is different and has to get accustomed to because is is a bit jittery for a brief moment getting going. Charging pad is a bit sensitive to make sure you get your phone just right. Not a ton of storage space for stuff. Likes....Driving dynamics are simply awesome. Steering, braking, acceleration very responsive. Interior is well put together with nice touches even at my lower trim. This car is way more responsive than the Honda Passport with similar horsepower. I know the torque is what is really pushing this but still what a difference. Ride quality is nice with pretty comfy seats (I am 6'1 and a bit on the larger size:) with no issues in the seats. Quite interior, good ample outlets. 3 row seats are usable which is all I cared about since I am not putting someone back there all the time. Bottom line...if you value driving dynamics over utilitarianism than the CX-90 might be a good option. If you want more loading space there are better options. Updated after 20K driving. No issues, still a great car to drive.

Mazda CX-90 is this a Lexus?
Here is what I like: Great adaptive cruise control! Nice comfortable and good looking seats. Nice sound system. Nice MPG for such a large vehicle. Good looking vehicle. Well functioning climate control. Ride is quiet although not BMW quiet. What could be better: Acceleration from a stop. Takes a while to get going. Front air vents are curved towards the door. Be careful that you don’t bang your knee getting in the front seats. Price is a bit high.
Artisan Red
We had been shopping Acura, Cadillac, BMW, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, and Lincoln for over a year. and the new Mazda CX-90 blew them away. Much higher reliability and build quality. A sporty luxury SUV, with Second row heated captains chairs and cargo room behind them with third row down. No need for the turbo S, the regular turbo gives this stylish SUV 320 lbs of torque immediately on regular gas, I can always drive in sport mode if I need a ticket. We visited our local dealership and test drove the CX-90 in Artisan Red, with Turbo Premium Plus options. The first one they received. Test drove it and bought it immediately. It’s a big AWD turbo Miata. We’ve had it for a month love the looks and handling. Our kids love the captains chairs.

Major repair with less than 5K miles
We purchased the CX90 to replace a 2023 CX5 in order to have more room and a better ride. This is our 7th Mazda we have purchased since 2006 and have always enjoyed reliable vehicles. This one is not fitting within that category. When we took the vehicle in for its 5K oil change and a software update, the technician noted a leaking drivers side differential seal. This repair has now taken over 3 weeks and the dealer has informed us that obtaining the parts and special tools to complete the repair could take months. This is not the quality of vehicle or the service of vehicles I have come to expect from Mazda. Mazda Customer Support has been contacted and they are working on a solution.

My first year model Mazda CX-90 was a dud!
My 2024 Mazda CX-90 Turbo Preferred was back to the dealers over 20 times in only 3200 miles! It had issues for the major recalls including loss of power steering while we were on a trip. I had to deal with this steering for over 425 miles until we returned home. It had --2-- new 12V starter batteries replaced (a 3rd new battery was installed) until Mazda finally figured out all of the batteries had been undercharging due to buggy software. That issue included a dead battery (#2) only 2 weeks after it was installed and right in my driveway one morning. The low battery (and loud) alerts continued to show up far too many times even after that issue was finally resolved. Other issues were defective rear radar sensors and what seemed like an odd AWD sensation where it just would not seem to hold the grade of road smoothly without a lot of minor steering wheel correction left and right. This was more pronounced at highway speeds. (the gas only AWD I have now tracks perfectly on all road grades, unlike my CX-90 did). The list goes on. Well, at 3500 miles on the ODO I finally had enough and I traded it in for a gasoline only vehicle (not a Mazda!). This experience made me a Hybrid hater, at least for the time being. Mazda's reputation for excellence won't be affiliated with this new first-year model. My CX-90 was one of the first off the assembly line (manufactured late 2023) and thus, had the full gamut of issues due to Mazda design failures, faulty vendor components and many software issues/bugs. The dealer was great to assist, but, as I told them, they were held responsible trying to fix my lemon told to me through Mazda and I had a whooper of a buggy CX-90 right from the start of ownership. When I informed the dealership I'd traded it in elsewhere, they seemed relieved and also a number of their employees said they fully understood why I did that.

Love this car, but it’s a lemon
Unfortunately with less than 10,000 miles on my CX-90 that I love DEARLY, I just had to file lemon law because my engine + hybrid system + i-stop feature are all malfunctioning. Save yourself this heartbreak and just don’t do it!

2024 CX-90 Low Hybrid worst vehicle we've owned...
We owned a newly purchased CX-5 and it had zero issues. We then traded it in 2 years later for a more spacious 2024 Cx-90 Low Hybrid. Issues began at only 250 miles on the Odo. Low main battery issues, including dead battery, and constant annoying low battery warnings on dash and through speaker system. We had the power steering fail during a trip and had to drive with a disabled power steering for over 350 miles until we got home. We had both rear radar sensors replaced because they failed. Our dealer replaced the stock battery twice and we were on our 3rd new battery with only 3500 miles on the odo. Mazda tech support finally figured out the alternator and regulator was undercharging the batteries that had died. It took 7+ visits to get the batteyr issue finally resolved. We had every recall Mazda had for our VIN. Finally at 3800 miles on this car, I'd had enough of the dash warning (drive vehicle to charge battery) as that kept coming up all of the time. The dealer did so many software updates, I honestly lost count unless I looked through my stack of invoices. I ended up trading my new 2024 CX-90 for another make that was gas only. I'd had enough of the many tech issues that Hybrids have plus one lemon of a hybrid that Mazda introduced far too early with many issues along with it. While Mazda is considered a reliable brand, that will not hold true at all for it's Hybrids, be it the low Hybrid I had or the PHEV plug-in either which has even more issues than mine did. Given the recently introduced Mazda 2025 CX-90 has already had one or more serous recalls, it's "here we go again" with this risky model. Avoid the CX-90 altogether until a model year comes along where the vehicle proves to be far more reliable. ...and 2025 isn't going to be that year!

Buyer Beware
Mazda really dropped the ball on this vehicle just to get a 2024 on the market in 2023. There have been numerous recalls on this new vehicle. I have spent more than 20+ hours waiting in the service center waiting area while new parts or reprogramming had to be done. This is not normal Mazda quality control. No one should have to go through this on a new vehicle. Shame on you Mazda

Quality control and problems from the start
Bought brand new From the start problem with the on board computer. Engine light on. Infotainment center screen had to be replaced 7 recalls within 6 months from purchase. Had to re- program on board computer. Left suspension noise. It has to be replaced. Waiting for the part Driver mirror vibrates at high speed. It will have to be replaced Waiting for new one.! Electric wires tubing covers are based on a soy component plastic that attracts rodents. Car in the shop for wires replacement. Again no parts. Infotainment system is outdated with no touch screen features. I would not recommend buying a Mazda CX90. Servicing the cars also takes for ever. We will sell this one at a loss when out of the shop.

Lipstick on a pig
This vehicle was absolutely rushed to market and without proper testing. Outside...beautiful. Horsepower and handling (2nd gear and above)…beautiful. The interior is luxurious looking at first glance but there are so many reflective surfaces that while driving in the FL sun....it is actually hard to see at times…especially trying to use the side mirrors. Don’t get the white interior if you do buy this vehicle. The heads-up display...pointless during the day with sunglasses on. It is not bright enough to see it. The transmission is so clunky that the first thing that you have to do every time that you get into the vehicle is disable the i-stop by a hidden button down low under the steering wheel and out of sight. If you leave i-stop enabled, the car shuts off for like 10 seconds at stops and then starts again. Owners manual says that a complicated algorithm determines how long to leave the engine off as not to disrupt the AC and power usage inside the car. They did not test this vehicle in a hot climate. Aside from pointless wear and tear of restarting the engine, the i-stop makes using first gear even clunkier / more jerky. Literally, first gear is like a 16 year old learning to drive a clutch. The salesperson has a fancy explanation about all of the technology and passive hybrid systems kicking in as the car starts to move. I've complained to Mazda Service Managers numerous times and the response was....it is a clutch system and not a continuous variable transmission (aka...nothing can be done about it). In the last 15 months, the car has had 7 or 8 recalls…I’ve lost count. The latest is the radar system mistakes phantom objects ahead and suddenly brakes causing rear end accidents. My CX90 has suddenly braked on the highway while in radar assist cruise control when a vehicle is slightly ahead and in the lane next to you. Even worse if it is a tractor trailer. My canned response to my wife's hairy eye-ball is...."it was the car...not me." The car's software has MAJOR bugs....MAJOR. The worst being that while driving on the highway at high speeds....the I-Active system randomly crashes for 20-30 miles until it can reboot itself or you pull over and restart the vehicle. While the I-Active system is down, you lose several safety systems like 360 degree alert of nearby cars, blind spot monitoring in side mirrors and other crash prevention systems. Basically, your top of the line, technology packed, 5 star safety rated SUV is now a bare-bones vehicle with huge blind spots while driving high speeds on the highway. I’m a software developer and have pinpointed the issue thru trial and error as speed related and taking in too much information through sensors. If you stay out of the fast line and drive the posted speed limits…it crashes far less. I took pictures of the dash showing the error “i-ACTIVESENSE temporarily disabled. Rear side radar obscured. Drive safely” and how it was perfectly sunny outside…no obstructions like rain or mud. I even took pictures while on a road trip to show the error/mileage of how often it crashes and when it finally reboots while driving at high speeds on the highway. I left the vehicle in the shop for weeks so Mazda Engineering could investigate. Their response was “no error codes are written to the computer so they cannot debug it.” Hello…I showed you pictures of the error messages. The shop manager searched the internet and other CX90 owners are reporting the same. Still no software fix. Still no acknowledgement of the problem. Next step is to report this problem to NHTSA to hopefully force a recall on it. Facial recognition software...seriously flawed. 9/10 times it doesn’t recognize you and defaults to Guest so you have to go through the menu system to pick your name to get your personalized car settings like seat position, steering wheel, dash layout, radio station, etc. Apparently, Mazda may have fix for the facial recognition glitch…we’ll see. Infotainment software...Satellite Radio locks up and fails to start or play at times. You either have to restart the vehicle to reboot the system or you have to keep changing Entertainment Sources to get Sirius to work again. Mechanically…only a few issues to report. The driver side mirror vibrating has been fixed once and still vibrates a little. Doesn’t sound too bad until you look into your rear-view mirror glass and the cars are blurry. The front suspension creaks like a rusty spring coming out of your driveway. Mazda’s fix….a little grease for now. With just 9K miles on the vehicle the rear brakes squeal. Embarrassing when you are in a drive thru line in a $60K SUV and people are looking at your high pitch squeals. Plastics on the rear tail gate come loose. Mazda’s fix…a little adhesive for now vs improving the clasps holding it on. BTW…it is loose again. Another reviewer commented on how Mazda USA is trying to right the ship with the CX90 and provide good customer service. I completely disagree. They are in damage control mode watching their luxury debut flounder. In total…my CX90 has been in the shop for 2 months across the various recalls and complaints. Two months paying for a vehicle to sit in the shop. I called up Mazda USA customer service back in March going back and forth with them on the I-ActiveSense crashing and my frustrations. As a courtesy for paying for a vehicle to sit in the shop, Mazda approved a refund of 2 lease payments to offset the inconveniences. It is now August and Mazda USA still has not refunded the lease payments to me. I’ve called and complained to the case worker numerous times. Their responses have been…the finance department is backed up, it takes a while to process, it now takes 16 WEEKS to process a refund [early April to late August is now 18 weeks and counting], and they have assured me that it has been escalated. I bought the CX90 when it first debuted because my Mazda6 lease was expiring. I wanted luxury for my next lease and the CX90 looked good. About 5 months after signing the lease, Mazda USA drops the MSRP by $5k. Thank you for being a loyal Mazda customer but we are going to instantly devalue the equity in the luxury car by another $5k but leave your lease as is. My advice to potential buyers….DO NOT buy a Mazda as their quality is on a downward spiral and especially DO NOT buy a CX90 3.3 Turbo Preferred Plus fully loaded luxury vehicle. I have leased 2014, 2018, 2020 Mazda6’s, my wife had a 2018 CX5, my kids had Mazda 3’s. Each year the cars progressively get worse to own and software gets worse each year. Thankfully, I lease them and can give them back. My next lease / buy will not be a Mazda. Hopefully my review saves a potential buyer from future headaches and the lack of support from the brand. #NoLongerLoyalMazdaCustomer.

Beautiful Car, but already has issues
I leased the new CX90 less than two months ago. It’s a beautiful car, and an attention grabber. My family loves it because it’s extremely comfortable. BUT it already has issues. Less than a week after getting it, it started with a noise when accelerating. A little more than a month after the car seemed to get stuck in first gear when I made a turn. It happened twice. I took it into the dealer for service, and they seem to think it’s a transmission issue that needs an update. Could this be a recall issue? Maybe. Let’s see what happens. Not a good experience when a brand new car gives you issues so early into driving it.

Great car, but terrible driver recognition system
Love the car shape and interior, but the driver recognition drives me crazy, as it only works one time out of two. Also, the transmission is really not smooth at all

Luxury all the way
We picked up my wife’s 2024 CX-90 premium plus SUV yesterday. It’s an absolutely amazing vehicle with so much technology. Super comfortable and so smooth driving. It just glides down the road with that 8 speed transmission. All around, it’s just luxury at its finest.

Leave it on the lot.
Watch The Car Care Nut Reviews of 2024 CX-90 and pay very close attention what he has to say about their engine and mechanical end. We have owned this for 8 months now have taken it in twice after 4 months, engine is making a low noise its faint and is coming from the engine rear where the chains are., Mechanics keep saying oh don’t worry just the noise engine makes, well it was nice and perfect for 4 months now it's making noises. Asked about a block heater reply was they have not built one yet and are working on it, oh and it's going to cost me 800 to have it installed plus parts. In the dead of winter car heater does not get interior very warm, again oh that’s just the way car runs they say. Take note no alternator it regens from your electric motor sandwiched in the transmission. Oh, and the coolant pump is an electric pump. Majority of engine repairs will require engine to be pulled which will require majority of your front clip required to be removed to pull the engine. The front drive axels go through oil pan like a BMW any front-end repairs will cost big money as the engine needs to be pulled to make some of the repairs. if oil pan has a gasket leak need to pull and drop front end to repair an oil leak. I need to replace my windshield and the cheapest I can find was 1200 all the way up to 1800 quote say windshield is expensive then they need to verify calibration of sensors. Purchased the Mazda heavy duty weather floor mats what a joke the price of them not worth it. Mazda will also talk you into under car corrosion spray this was before I found out the car has a skid plate from front to back so there is nothing to spray. Had to shut the fuel saver shut car off at red lights off because it was sometimes cutting out and not restarting. Turn the lane departure system off because it’s so aggressive if driving in the winter you will end up in the ditch or accident, forgot to turn signal light on once when using an off ramp that it jerked me so hard almost side swiping another car. Mazda has had 10 recalls in the first year for this car. Overall nice inside feels to have a solid firm ride but that’s where everything ends consider other options.

Satisfying Competence and more.
This car is great to drive. Our trips are usually around town (Waco). There are a couple of trips per month per month to Dallas, Austin, Kerrville. The car’s responsive sport feature kicks its acceleration up a notch. It is most useful for on-ramps and passing and is easily engaged. From about 40 to 90 it pulls solidly and does not run out of oomph as other cars do, it just goes. The ride is comfortable, smooth. It does not wallow. It feels planted at speed, and feels sure footed in turns. The interior is comfortable, and longer travels do not tire us out. The front row is spacious, shoulder, leg, and headroom is plentiful - much bigger than other midsizers. The second row is spacious. The third row is described as cramped - we use the third row occasionally - it is for grandkids not adults, and that suits us. The Bose audio is one of the better systems at this price level. After seven months of use, we still exclaim after we finish a trip: ‘That is a good car.’ We are pleased. Definitely would get another CX-90.

Hybrid battery and parts not available
I bought cx90 preferred plus in last july 2023. Unfortunately I damaged underneath by hitting with something under while driving.which hit on hybrid battery and it’s damaged.my insurance covered this repair cost. But problem is they dont have any Hybrid battery.my SUV sitting on the dealers parking lot since October 2023.even though they dont know when its will be available. I m very disappointed about it. My question if u don’t have parts/battery available. Why you sell its to customer. Accident can be happen to anyone anytime. I look forward to someone from mazda customer care, who can help me out to fix my SUV and get the hybrid battery asap. I am very unhappy with Mazda purchased.

Perfect Car
After owning my CX-90 Preferred Plus for several weeks and driving it extensively, I can now provide some insights. I traded in a 2020 Honda Passport with similar horsepower but different torque. Here are some observations: Quirks: The main adjustment for me has been to the hybrid system and how it starts the car. It's not necessarily bothersome, but it's different and requires some getting used to. The initial moment of getting going can feel a bit jittery. The charging pad is a bit sensitive, requiring precision in placing your phone. There's not an abundance of storage space for personal items. Likes: The driving dynamics of the CX-90 are truly impressive. The responsiveness of steering, braking, and acceleration is excellent. The interior is well-designed with thoughtful touches, even in my lower trim model. The car is notably more responsive than the Honda Passport with similar horsepower, thanks to the torque factor. Ride quality is comfortable, and the seats are accommodating, even for someone of my stature (6'1"). The interior is quiet, and there are ample outlets for convenience. The three-row seats are usable, which meets my needs as I don't frequently have passengers in the back. Bottom Line: If you prioritize driving dynamics over utility, the CX-90 could be a compelling option. However, if you require more loading space, there may be better alternatives. Overall, the CX-90 has impressed me with its performance, and I appreciate its unique features despite some initial quirks.

At 7500 miles I am currently sitting in the dealership waiting on an oil change, and have the following complaints: 2 days ago while driving about 60mph the vehicle began jerking and hesitating and continued to do this from acceleration to faster speeds throughout the day. 2 days prior to that, it was making a loud squealing noise while driving in stop and go traffic for about 3 miles. The brakes are squealing and have been for the last 1,000 miles. There’s the sound of an air leak in the passenger side door that can be heard loudly while driving. The drivers seat is uncomfortable. The car makes a loud beeping noise when backing up which I personally do not like and there’s no way to turn off. I owned a 2021 Ford Explorer prior to purchasing this vehicle and can say this Mazda CX-90 does not even compare considering it’s in the same price range and size as the Explorer. I would highly recommend reconsidering before purchasing this vehicle. I have plans to trade this vehicle very soon to go back to a Ford Explorer. Also, the guy in the service department (Charleston, SC) was very nonchalant regarding my complaints. I will be sure everything is documented before I leave in case the problems escalate further before I’m able to trade it in.

(MUST READ) Great car but bit outdated
To be honest, I believe this mid-size SUV is the most aesthetically pleasing option on the market. I purchased this vehicle on September 30th and have been driving it for about ten days, covering approximately 400 miles. I hope my feedback proves useful for those in search of a mid-size SUV. I've test drove, Pathfinder, Pilot, Telluride, and Palisade before purchasing this car. My budget was $50,000 including tax, and all documentation fees. Before I've bought this car, after I haved tested cars based on my budget. Handling: 5 Stars The handling of this SUV is exceptional, and I consider it the best in its class. I haven't come across any mid-size SUVs with better handling than the CX-90. Acceleration & Driving: 4 Stars At low speeds, this car's mild-hybrid system can sometimes feel a bit unnatural when shifting gears automatically. Given that this is Mazda's first foray into mild hybrid technology, I can understand the initial quirks. I'm confident that they will make improvements in tuning for the 2025 model to rectify this issue. On the flip side, when it comes to accelerating to higher speeds, it excels and stands as the best in its category. Interior: 4 Stars The interior design is absolutely stunning. However, its practicality leaves something to be desired. When using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, placing your smartphone or key fob in the center console can be a bit inconvenient. This also means you can't use the cup holders for your beverages while driving. In comparison, the Kia Telluride offers more convenient solutions for storing your phone and keys. Infotainment: 2 Stars I understand that higher trim levels have a touch screen, but it's exclusively for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The infotainment system in this Mazda is subpar when compared to Japanese or Korean brands. Technology: 3 Stars Korean brands clearly lead the way when it comes to driving and interior technology, offering features like ventilated seats, heated steering wheels, lane-keeping assist, highway assist, and more. Mazda seems to be somewhat stuck in the past. Having owned a Hyundai Tucson, I can attest that Korean cars are far more comfortable and stress-free for long-distance drives compared to Mazda. Summary: 4 Stars Despite pointing out some drawbacks of the Mazda in comparison to other brands, I want to emphasize that driving this car is a pure pleasure. The handling and acceleration are top-notch, and when you sit in the driver's seat, you feel truly connected to the vehicle. It's hard to describe, but Japanese and Korean cars often feel like they have a small core with a large shell on top, which can feel unnatural when compared to Mazda. I appreciate how confident and stable the Mazda makes me feel while driving. However, there's no denying that Mazda needs to step up its game in terms of convenience options and technology to compete with other Asian brands.

Fantastic SUV
We have really enjoyed our CX-90 S Premium. Beautiful design inside and out. Handling is superb (feels like driving a smaller car) and acceleration is impressive, especially at higher speeds. Infotainment is a little clunky when not using CarPlay. Safety features are nice and have saved me from a couple crashes. It’s been through a few recalls, but otherwise no major issues. Overall very pleased!
not the best choice for me
I like the acceleration, the AC, the seat blowers and that many of the controls are push button, not screen. I don't like the radar stuff. The vehicle decides where it will drive, when to use the brakes, how fast it will go when using the cruise control (slows down if coming up on a vehicle before you can change lanes), beeps at you constantly in heavy traffic and the foot activated tailgate opener opens the tailgate when going over steep road entry from parking lots (tailgate is broken now from the time it happened).
Pleasant Drive Smooth Ride
It's a little sportier than the 2021 Honda Pilot Ex I trade it in for. The Cabin is quiet in the highway and the ride is smooth. I'm looking forward to getting a better MPG for practically the same size as my previous vehicle.

Nice 3 row SUV by Mazda
We have the Turbo S Premium Plus model and love it. The vehicle feels like it is high quality, not cheap materials like other manufacturers. Panel gaps are near perfect. Engine is smooth, powerful and efficient. It will run on regular but I can feel the difference using premium. Ride is quiet and comfortable.

From Ascent to CX-90 a smart switch
Went shopping for a Subaru Ascent or a Honda pilot or a Toyota Grand Highlander and never thought about a Mazda. By chance we looked at the CX-90 and fell in love. This vehicle is luxurious and fun to drive and loaded with options that make it comfortable for a night out or long trip to our great national parks.

wanted to love it
I bought the 2024 CX90 and thought I was in love. A hybrid with 3 rows? Sign this mom up! BUT! It spent 110 days at the dealer for different problems in the 300 days I owned it. So many problems I can't even start to complain here. Save yourself the headache and get a Toyota.

Very Dependable and Sexy SUV
I love Mazda and it hasn’t failed me. It did once but it was a manufacturing defect. The dealer quickly resolved my issue. Mazda is my family car and I trust it with my family.

Mazda CX-90 is the way to go!!! Volvo? BMW?
Artisan Red Turbo S. Premium Plus!!! Sports DNA in a 3 row SUV. move over BMW, this one here has better handling, and look great while doing it. Luxury appointments are second to none. this one does not have a lot of compartment space, but it does have a large glove box and good space for your things. where is lacks in space, surely makes for it in driving mechanics and pure luxuriousness. This vehicle is not meant to compete with Kia twins or Pilot or GH for that matter. This one is RWD/AWD with Miata DNA. simply test driving this, does not uncover what you will love about this car. This car feels like a much, much, more expensive car. The interior will wow you; the driving mechanics will wow you. CX90 is an all around winner

Almost...
I test drove the vehicle. I needed a replacement for my 2016 Acura MDX which I purchased new but year end for a price lower than the Honda Pilot I was intending to buy (that was a new model year for the Pilot and the deal breaker for me is that there was no on/off button for the audio...you had to go through more than one step on a touch screen). The 2017 MDXs had already arrived and the styling/safety feature were new so I was able to get a ridiculously good deal on the 2016 MDX...never owning a luxury type vehicle before and never intending to ever purchase one. I was very excited to learn how much though Mazda put into the aesthetics and engineering. All the prelim videos and reviews made it look awesome. My requirements were I needed at least a 7 seater and safety features (back up sensor among others). I test drove the CX-90. I loved the look, driving feel and really was trying to convince myself that I could make this work into what I needed. Alas...this model had no back up sensor. That is only available on higher trims...and the higher trims all come with middle row captains chairs. For my needs, the 3rd row seats are really not large enough. So that functionally leaves me with a 4 passenger vehicle....which doesn't work for me especially at that price. Even though the interior storage space is really limited (I wish Mazda placed equal effort on this as they did the styling and performance)...I would have purchased the higher model with a back up sensor if it had the bench seating so I could at least get 5 people in the car. The top line model is more expense than a base Porsche Macan...which functionally has the same seating and more expensive than the base MDX...which is a spacious 7 seater. Common Mazda...I want to purchase this vehicle in the future...how about putting all the safety features on all the trims: safety is not a luxury. For now...I put my money into the Toyota Grand Highlander.

Not a very good car
Rented a cx90 with 1800 miles on it out of SRQ Airport. Exchanged it after a week for a Ford SUV. The Mazda was anemically powered with a touchy accelerator that didn't make the car go when you applied light pressure. If you gave it more gas , it felt like it was jumping forward. The ride was comfortable but did not instill confidence that it handled well. Very difficult to gauge distance from the front of the vehicle to an obstacle. Needs a bit of slope on the front hood. It started beeping at the driver from four feet away. The center console control system was a joke. Not intuitive at all. Had it a week and never figured out how to easily change the FM stations or how to create a station preference list. The navigation screen did not show all the street names and I could not figure out how to adjust screen size to make them appear. Not very useful when traveling in an unfamiliar place.

Pricey suv without some standard features
Cheapest built $50k suv out there. For the price of this vehicle you would think it would have more standard features. No sirius xm, memory seats, no remote atart with key and doesn’t eve have an auto dimming rear view mirror. Pretty pitiful for a brand new model, Mazda dropped the ball on this one. But seems like all car manufacturers are finding more ways to stick it to the consumer by taking away options that should be standard. Vehicle ride and power is the only saving grace for this suv.

Pretty sad build quality
I was excited to rent one of these. I drive around 30 cars per year and was looking forward to this one. The car drove fine (6240 miles) however build quality was suspect. The gear shift knob rattled, hood appeared to be skewed of to one side, gas fill cover felt like a piece of plastic. It took me 5 minutes to figure out that the car has to be off before the cover will release. Mind you the rental was in NW Iowa and the air temp was -12 with a 25 mph wind. Turning off the car makes for a cold reentry. I love the Cx5. The CX 90 seems to cut corners.

Impressive and Way Overpriced
I wanted to test drive the least expensive version of this vehicle that came with a power tailgate and ventilated front seats. That would be the turbo premium plus and it drove beautifully and had a nice interior. It also retailed for over $53,000. The Kia Telluride with these features was just over $40K and was bigger. The Kia Sportage Hybrid was $40K.

Maybe 4.5 stars
The one thing I really find annoying in this car is the gear shift. For some reason, known only to a Japanese engineer or designer, they decided to make park be all the way up and over to the left. It's real easy to forget that over to the left but when automatic gear shifts have been designed the same, logical, perfect way for decades. No idea why car manufacturers seem to feel the the need to change something that worked great, forever to knobs, labyrinths, or this abomination.
Beautiful car for the money
Interior and exterior styling and appointments, and performance and ride of much more expensive vehicles. I'm very happy with my CX90.
