Traded in a cx9 for a cx5 because we wanted a smaller car. What a mistake. The cx9 was real luxury. The cx5 is a bumpy ride, noisy and an annoying transmission that always seems like it is struggling to get to the next gear

Rented the touring version and found the car very well equipped with leather seats, Bose audio, safety features like lane departure and blind spot assist. An 8 speed transmission would make this car so much more fun to drive. The downside of this vehicle after having it for a week is that the sport selector on the gear selectors is pretty much not usable. When moved over to sports, the gear would kicked down and hold for a long time, keeping the motor running at very high rev until a certain speed is reached. That could take a long time in busy traffic and it’s annoying. Also, the placement of the center console screen button is located very inconveniently behind the gear selector, making it hard to reach. Other than that, the ride is smooth, build quality is solid and the interior looks luxurious.

Completely disappointed by Mazda. We bought our 2014 Mazda CX-5 from a dealership. It's been OK over the last 5 years, though not exceptional. The MPG dropped about a year after owning it, it bugged me that the back seats dont fold truly flat, and it seems that we keep running into issues earlier than we should. In the last two years we have had to replace the battery, the alternator, and just now the Transmission! The car has 70K miles on it. From my experience, I should not have to replace a transmission at 70K miles. I had my mechanic take a look and see if he could find any reason for the transmission to kick the bucket at this young age. No indication. I towed the car to the Mazda dealership I purchased it from. This is where it gets "fun": 1) My warranty ended less than 6 months ago, but the technician says corporate will usually accommodate something when it so soon after it ended. 2) The technician agreed it's pretty early for the transmission to fail. 3) It's $6000.00 to replace!!! So I wait a couple days to hear back from their corporate about the warranty coverage. NOTHING. They will help in no way for a car I purchased from their dealer (not a 3rd party), has low mileage to encounter this issue, AND my warranty isn't even 6 months passed. I could understand them not covering the whole cost because it's outside of warranty. But to cover nothing for their customer who has continued to support their company these past years?! They also gave no reason why they would not help out even a little. The technician found me a cost saving measure of replacing with a used transmission which will cost $3700 instead of $6000.... But that used transmission has 60K miles; mine failed at 70K. We are fixing, selling, and never buying Mazda again. They just lost our business to Honda or Volvo.

You would think a brand new vehicle would be good enough to last longer than 2 years. Nope both engine and transmission failure in the first 12 months. Also take 3 minutes for infotainment to start up and it is ridiculous that infotainment is not touch screen by now. Buyer beware!!!!!

This car is like a piece of furniture. Purchased 7/11, just over two months ago. We have at least 10 to 12 superficial scratches all over the car, but some scratches are down through the finish. It is supposed to have Amoral coating, but it’s almost as if the exterior finish has not hardened. Very bad news. 🙁

In September 2018 one of my 2016 CX5 LED headlamps burned out with the retail price of over $1,000 for repair. After back and forth with Mazda they finally agreed to help me replace the headlight. So here I am just a few months later with the need to replace the other headlight because the running light is burned out and the entire headlamp assembly needs to be replaced. Makes me wonder about the reliability of the rest of the vehicle??

The sport is very basic, my Nissan Rogue had more features that the basic sport does, no tinted windows, backseat cup holders, air vents, outdated infotainment system, all which comes with the basic Nissan Rogue

I just love this car. I bought the 2019 Signature CX-5. Before this, I had a 2008 Mazda3 hatchback for nearly 12 years. I loved that car too; it was very dependable, stylish, and fun to drive, but my new Mazda CX-5 is so much better for commuting. Well, the gas mileage could be better, but I got the turbo engine, so I traded gas economy for more power. I was mostly looking for something extremely comfortable to drive, as I spend 2 hours each week day driving back and forth from work.This is the most comfortable car I've ever owned. The driver seat cradles my back and gives excellent, adjustable lumbar support. The stop-and-go cruise control is a life saver in traffic jams. It reduces my stress so much; I just steer and the car does all of the stopping and going and maintaining a safe following distance all on its own. I think I'm a good driver, but I have to admit I'm a much better and safer driver with this feature. I thought I would hate the car beeping at me when there is someone in my blind spot (only does this if you turn on the turn signal), but it is very useful; no more craning forward to check my blind spots. I have never had a car with heated seats and steering wheel before, and I'm in love. I use it all the time even though I live in San Diego; the warmth helps my back relax. It is an extremely comfortable car to drive, and the ride is so smooth and quiet. Acceleration is great with the turbo engine. I've never had a SUV before so I can't really say too much about the handling, but I think it handles very well. Not quite as quick to turn as my old Mazda3 was, but still very good. This car has every luxury feature I could possibly want...all the aforementioned things as well as power mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, automatic brights and brights-dimming if another car approaches, power liftgate, BOSE speakers, wood-paneling, soft leather seats, power moonroof...I never expected to own such a fancy car. I think it is a gorgeous car inside and out. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a supremely-comfortable car to drive and isn't as worried about gas mileage (I get about 23 mpg in my commute, which is stop-and-go the entire way.) The only area for improvement I can think of would be better resolution in the infotainment display. I like the little knob for navigating around the infotainment display; it just takes a little getting used to. The interior is beautiful in a very understated way, but I wouldn't mind a little more flashiness in the interior design, such as more color contrast. Overall, this is a very well thought-out car, and a comfortable car to be in for long periods of time.

Rust blemishes on Chrome

I love my Mazda its everything plus more for the money. My question to 2019 Mazda CX5 owners have you noticed on the chrome trim by the windows that there specks of rust? I have had my vehicle for less than 2 months and I only noticed it because I decided to hand wash my vehicle. Now, I took it back to Gillman and they took pictures but said they never had that complaint before. As I was there I walked over to another CX5 and there I saw the same problem but much worst, freckles of rust! I'm being hopeful that Gillman Mazda will take care the problem on my newly purchased vehicle. [contact information removed]

After doing nearly 2 months' worth of research, I am proud to show off my new Mazda CX-5!! This sleek crossover is the perfect vehicle if budget, style, comfort, and performance are part of your criteria. It's a sexy car that looks and drives like a Lexus without the Lexus price tag and people are starting to catch on so don't be surprised to see more of these vehicles on the road this year. We bought a GT with Premium package. Styling and fit and finish is top notch. Fun car- love the safety features. Peppy & smooth engine for a 4 cylinder. Recommend Grand Touring Reserve or signature with the turbo if you carry heavier items or passengers often. More power helps. Good maneuverability. Ride is good balance or comfort and harshness- mostly due to the wheelbase. Interior design and materials is great . Love the soft touch of the materials. I would sit in the seats for an extended period of time to see if the size and comfort meets your requirements. Gas mileage is ok, might be better as the engine breaks in. Wished the touch screen would operate when car is moving and would have liked the Carplay/Android Auto to connect wirelessly but not a big deal. The control dial for infotainment is good and works well when car is moving. Great car compared to its class. Once our lease is over, we’ll get the Reserve. Mazda did an excellent thing with this beauty.

A reasonable price for an AWD with a 2.5 turbocharged engine. Comfortable seat with Napa leather. Good ride and handling. Favorite Features: AWD; 227/250HP turbocharged engine; class-leading 310 LB-FT torque; quiet cabin; bright head-up display; 360 view monitor; advanced smart city brake support and other safety features. Suggested Improvements: No CD player; Small monitor; limited cargo trunk; 19 miles only in the city, needs better gas mileage; not user-friendly infotainment and controls. Especially, delayed response for GPS takes ~ 2 minutes to start.

I have had my CX-5 for 6 months now and am just starting to realize what a magnificent machine it really is. I have had many cars in my time from Vets to BMWs and I can honestly say, when I drive the CX-5 I feel in tune with it. The overall performance is fantastic; great acceleration, positive handling with quick response to quick turning actions, very quiet and an excellent ride. This vehicle sets a standard that all manufactures should follow. Great job Mazda!

I took delivery of my 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature Edition on 08/20/19. I traded in my 2012 Kia Sportage for this. Well let me tell you, the difference is night and day. Not that the Kia was a bad car because it served me well for 7 1/2 years with no major issues, at all. So kudos to Kia. But this CX-5 is just outstanding. I love everything about this car, the features, the look of it. It is such a pleasure to drive, and that turbo doesn't play, lol. 😆 I still have to monitor the gas mileage since I only had it one day. But time will tell how long i stay in love with this car, but I hope its for many years to come.

The CX-5 is a well-built, extremely quiet and smooth-riding car that is fun to drive (for an SUV). Fuel economy is better than I expected, and performance is certainly adequate. The transmission is a bit balky at very low speeds but otherwise quite smooth. The compact exterior is appreciated; however, the interior is rather tight, both front and back, compared with other compact SUVs. The infotainment system is often slow to boot up and rather complicated to use for some simple tasks, such as changing the audio source. The fit and finish really are impressive, and I get the impression this car will hold up well over time.

recently traded 5yr old Hyundai IX35 Elite AWD on 2019 Mazda CX5 sport AWD,apart from slightly less noiseand a slightly better ride,the hyundai was a much better thought out vehicle,everything worked without fault,whilst the MAZDA is loaded with gimmicks that work sometimes and the SAT NAV is absolutely useless.I spent a lot of money to be extremely dissappointed. Incidently,I have been driving all types of vehicles for more than 60 years ,there I believe Ido have some idea what I am talking about.

I got my CX-5 Grand Touring Premium a little less than a month ago after being convinced by glowing review after glowing review. 1,000 miles in, I can tell you what I don't hate and what I do: Don't hate: - Safety features - those are great. no complaints. - Comfortable seat. - Drives nicely, but you feel every bump. Hate: - The car defaults to FM radio 90% of the time, even when I was last on Sirius or bluetooth or Apple CarPlay. - It takes the audio system and screen anywhere from 30 seconds to 4 minutes to start up. - The backseat is small. - The trunk makes a popping sound when the the latch automatically unlocks, which feels really cheap. - The doors lock and unlock in the most idiotic way, the settings don't reflect what the doors actually do. - The car has a Bose sound system, which automatically makes all the mirrors shake when music is on... which is ALWAYS. - The rearview camera pales in comparison to my old Lexus NX. Honestly, the car has major false advertising when it comes to luxury. It's not. Don't buy into it. .

Looks good, but that’s it. Slower than hell, the absolute worst blind spot and forward collision technology. It beeps when you are 10 car lengths ahead of a car and changing lanes. It auto brakes when the car in front was in the turning lane...I hate this car more than words can describe! I would rather drive a Jeep Cherokee that is 15 years old.

I had this car as a lease and then bought it out because I couldn't find any other car that had all the bells and whistles including its drivability like a luxury car at a much lower cost...bigger bang for your buck, for sure.

The handling, cabin design and the sharp look impressed me a lot. I love CX5 especial when I was driving it. However, theres still some drawbacks 1. Tire pressure monitor, I didnt find the number of the tire pressure, it seems theres only a indicator in the panel todisplay where the pressure is okay or not, no pressure rate is displayed. When it is a standard feature for most of other competitor. 2. Android Auto cannot use touch screen. What a mess! Apple Carplay works with touch screen when andriod auto not. 3. Cargo space, its acceptable to sacrifice it when it's so fun to driving CX5, but when you compare it with CRV or RAV4 or even Rogue, it's quite a cons 4. Lane keeping assistance, its quite confusing how to use this feature, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Unlike nissan propilot or honfa sensing, the mazda's quite confusing. You have to check the panel very frequently to see if its activated and is detecting lines or not. They need to make improvement on that.

Test drive all other SUVs before making a final decision. I picked the CX5 because it has everything I wanted in the Grand Touring trim without having to pay a fortune for it. So far, the ride has been pretty smooth and comfy. I hope it will continue that way for many years to come!

This is my fourth Mazda, and my first CX-5. I am extremely impressed with this SUV. The build quality is excellent, and the 2.5 liter turbo delivers lots of power. The ride quality is tight and responsive - what I have come to expect from Mazda. I don’t understand why Mazda does not have a better market share in US. They make beautiful, reliable, fun to drive vehicles at a good value to price ratio. My nit pick negative comments : 1) The Apple Car Play and Sirius radio could boot up faster 2) There should be a slot to store your phone when it is connected via cable to the USB slot in the center console.

I love almost everything about my 2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring. The quality of the interior is much better than competitors. The radar cruise control and lane departure warning systems are great. The handling is superb. The problem? The engine has no flexibility. Very often I find myself unable to get the engine to respond when I need to accelerate quickly. Another quibble - the infotainment system takes far too long to boot up.

We own the 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring. Took vehicle in for exhaust odor when stopped. The vehicle with only 20k miles was at the dealer for 7 weeks for a cylinder head leak and parts were not available. After removing they removed engine they determined lifters were needed as well. Again only 20k miles. In addition, the radio constantly freezes up and won't play XM music. Have to do a hard reset to get the radio to work. It has had updates done at the dealer several times but does not resolve the issue. Its a shame because we love the body style and interior other than the really poorly placed rear heated seats buttons that are easily accidentally applied since they are in the center rear armrest. I asked to speak with a factory rep and have called Mazda directly with no response.

I wanted to upgrade from a compact sedan to a medium sized SUV. I evaluated all of the current offerings out there from Acura to Volkswagen. After months of critical evaluations of the various SUVs, the CX-5 was a standout. What caught my eye was the attractive exterior styling, the very upscale looking interior. A test drive sealed the deal as it was the best driving and most fun to drive SUV I’ve ever driven. The vehicle is so engaging to drive, it can handle sharp corners and turns with ease. It’s very quiet on the inside, feels very refined and has all the amenities and technology anyone would want. I’m in love with the SUV and so glad I bought it. I actually look forward to driving it every time I need to go somewhere. I’ve had zero issues with it and I always get routine maintenance done regularly at my local Mazda dealership. In short, I feel this is the best mid-sized SUV out there, especially for the money. It’s every bit as reliable as a Toyota but way more fun to drive.

Pros: nice acceleration. Quiet ride with much less road noise than my Honda CR-V( b we have always been Honda people but road noise and recent service incidents turned me against this time) The Mazda is just a nice handling car. Great mileage for an SUV and don't have to use high test like Lexus which I had considered. Like all the safety features stuff as lane depart etc Comfortable seats. Love the seat warmer feature. Cons:I have the touring package with navigation and Sirius. Also has andoid and apple play but this really confuses me by having both. Difficult to get used to but that may be just me😐 The cup holder between the seats seems too far back for comfort also. I do wish actually/heat fan control etc was located on steering wheel or higher up... Have to take eyes off road to adjust door to it's very low placement on the dash. But if I had to do it over again I would choose this car again!

On my second C5 Lease 2016 and 2019. Like this car so much I purchased it after 27 years of leasing every 3 years. Limited car inventories and market add ons were part of it but I truly live this car. Mazda has not adjusted to better their MPG during these days of high fuel prices but lowered them by going all turbo. The Turbo is great but for someone who is paid mileage the standard engine is even better. The 2019 CX5 is spunky enough, handles great, truly refined and with ventilated front seats, head up display and other perks it is a joy to work out of. The 2019 is much more solid than the 2016 and I truly love the placement of all the instruments especially the entertainment controls. The tech isn't the best but mostly good, seats are more firm than comfortable because this car handles great and you need the lateral support. This is my second Soul Red CX and people have stopped me dozens of times to inquire to the color. Mazda got this one right, now give me a true hybrid turbo and I'll buy 2 more.

I leased the 2019 CX-5 GT FWD with Premium Package. I like the vehicles handling, steering feel, cargo room for my needs and styling. It has heads up display which is really cool. The quality of the vehicle is excellent. Heated and A/C seats and a heated steering wheel are all reasons I got that package. I just wish I could afford the turbo. Lease rates were awful on them at the time. The base engine is so sluggish it drives me crazy. I have to plan accordingly passing vehicles on roads and especially highways. Everything else is so driver enthusiast. Also the seat bottom is too tight on my thighs and hurts, so I bought a seat pad from amazon, so that’s better now. The 7” screen needs to be 9” like the CX-30. I also wish the armrest was longer as I’m pretty tall. 3/5 raking. Kinda wish I got the 2020 Stelvio now that they redid the few interior quality issues the older ones had. Plus their leases are just a little more. Also, my wife has the 19’ CX-9 Touring and that turbo is so smooth! Plus it leases a little better. It’s a much better car IMO.

I love my 2019 CX5 Signature. The vehicle handles like a dream and the turbo engine has plenty of power and responsiveness. The interior is very nice; the driver and passenger seats are very comfortable and have heated and ventilated seats, which is nice on a hot summer day. Sound system is very good. Climate control is great and interior fit and finish is very good; the only exceptions are the plastic at the bottom of the dash display is thin and feels cheap and the sunroof visor feels a bit flimsy. Also, the backup camera is low quality and the infotainment system is slow to load. These are nitpicks because overall the vehicle is great. I had a Cadillac SRX prior to this vehicle and the fit, finish, performance and comfort of the CX5 Signature is every bit as good, or better, than the Caddy and the Mazda has tons more features for the price.

Haven't read a bad review for this car yet, and after owning one for some time now I totally agree. Upscale interior, superior performance, gorgeous design, & quality build for the money you can't ask for much more. Dollar for dollar best buy out there in this class.

This year and model was suggested to me when I was looking for a used car. I have driven it for one year. It is reliable and easy transportation. Safety features meet my needs. Ride and ease of entry is comfortable.

Maybe nobody else cares or notices these things, but the 2019 GT with the GT premium package is the best CX-5 available for the money. I picked one up last August right before car prices went insane, and with a few thousand miles, the Mazda CPO extended the base warranty by 12 months/12,000 miles, giving me a 40 month warranty at just over 40,000 miles. This model has every option, but it is not AWD, nor is it the turbo. My Highway mileage has been 37 mpg over last 11,000 miles. Ventilated seats, head-up display, Navigation, SXM travel link, Android Auto, etc. are just of few of the great options that are now reserved for much higher priced trim levels. If you find a low mileage 2019 GT that's for sale as CPO, you still would come out ahead, even with the higher prices. If you need the turbo and AWD, go for it. I really could not tell that much of a difference between the NA and the turbo, but their is a real world mpg difference that's also expensive. Mazda has been the only brand for me since 2008, with two Mazda3 GT's, a Mazda6 GT, & now the CX-5. Only oil changes and tires since then, including a 2012 3 sedan for my child that's humming along with 120k+ miles. As Mazda moves to "premium", it kinda feels like the secret is out, and they sure are cashing in on it. Wait until impending recession before buying if current prices are too much.

The CX 5 Signature is the best of the best CX5 I have ever owned. Easy to handle. Quieter than the other CX5 I have owned. Comfortable, reliable and fun to drive. Both Apple Play and Android . Nice size cargo space. I have owned for 2 1/2 years and still give it a five start rating.

My wife is vertically challenged (4'9"). I loved everything about the Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring. Even with power seats, she could not see over the gauge pod on the dash to see the hood. I thought this was the one until we discovered that. I couldn't even entertain the thought of getting a new car that my wife couldn't drive without a seat cushion. Any other make and model we tested was fine. I even contacted mobility accessories installation companies for handicapped or disabled and none of the nationally known companies would touch lifting the seat 2 1/2" to 3". They claimed liability issues. Oh well, no sale for Mazda.

Acceleration is not as quick as my Mazda 3, but have sufficient power. It is much quieter than my Mazda 3.

Walk into the showroom armed with knowledge, a list of what you do and don’t want. Get a good night’s sleep, eat well and prepare to walk out if you don’t get what you want! I really like this AWD after less than a week driving. Handles well, feel the road bumps more but tolerable. Nice vertical screen to view navigation, music, phone, etc. and quite intuitive. I like the transmission offered with this model. Plenty of pep and moderate on gas consumption. Go for it!

A Miata on steroids. I had a 2003 Miata Special Edition for 15 years but it was getting difficult to enter and exit as I got older. The CX5 does not disappoint.
