Nice but prefer my 2018 CX-5

Had to leave my 2018 CX-5 at the dealer for service so they loaned me a CX-30 Carbon which was great because I've been wanting to check it out. Sits lower than the CX-5 so easy for myself and my wife to get in. Stylus interior like most Mazdas. Handles really well. Good sound system and wireless Android Auto is great plus wireless charging. Not crazy about the tiny rear window and rear view mirror. Mirror also sits really close to roof of car so I don't think I can fit my over-the-mirror dash cam unit on it. Not too crazy but the long but short console screen that seems pretty far from the driving position. When I put the car in the reverse, the rear view camera screen seems really small and hard to make out objects, Would prefer something more squarish like on my 2018 CX-5 or what I've seen on other cars. The non-turbo 4 doesn't shift smoothly and quite often is hunting for gears and once it gets there, the car will jolt forward. One time it caused the head rest to hit the back of my head pretty hard. My non-turbo CX-5 never did that. My last loaner was a Turbo Mazda 3 and that engine is awesome. No perceptible turbo lag and power to spare. Will probably opt for a Turbo CX-5 for my next car. Overall I like driving my 2018 CX-5 a lot better. The really big blind spot of the CX-30 is a deal breaker for me.

Wish it had satellite radio. The blue tooth has to be wired to work with google maps, and google maps doesn't always connect correctly. Lots of blind spots.

I’ve driven a Mazda for the past 30 years. I have never experienced the issues that I am now having. If I incorporate the mph sign on the windshield the radio goes dead. Shut the car off with the radio on, come back, and it’s a crapshoot. Sometimes it’s on sometimes it’s off. Switching from FM to AM, another crapshoot. This car is so frustrating. I will never, ever, lease another Mazda. So sad

I test drove the Preferred and Select models in April 2025. Love the unique exterior look of the CX 30. The interior is upscale as well. Driving it has a sporty feel and you definitely feel the road underneath. Fun to drive for sure. What surprised me was the interior room in the car. After reading expert reviews, I had the impression the interior was very tight and somewhat claustrophobic. I am 5'10" and weigh 162 lbs. Contrary to some of the reviews I found the front seats comfortable and rear seating quite adequate for me, and this is after adjusting the front seats to where I would be sitting. I had probably 3 to 4 inches of space before my knees would touch the back of the front seats. Some negatives: Front seats are a bit stiff and the car is a bit noisy until it transmission finds the right gear. But the car has plenty of pep. Also, my low back hurt somewhat even with the car's lumbar support. I would use a seat cushion for more support if I couldn't adjust the lumbar support to my liking. Overall, I really like this car and the price is quite reasonable. It's on the top of my list when I will be buying a vehicle in the next few months. (To clarify, I test drove the non-turbo models and that's what I would buy.)
