had this car since 2007, bought it with 37xxx on it. the car now has 333xxx. haven’t seen many cars hit 300k miles, haven’t had any problems till now, even now the problems are small. very comfortable and large, the sound system is amazing with 7 speakers including a built in subwoofer. definitely delivers.

My 12th Lincoln

This vehicle is very easy to get in and out of. The Signature Limited is the ticket. I am only missing the moonroof, which I don't really care about anyway. If you have to be in traffic, you will love the comfort and the dual a/c. I had 2 1997's (last year of old body style) and really had my reservations when the 98's came out, but the 2005 was pretty much redone. I agree that it needs more horsepower, maybe a 5.4 or turbo 4.6 somewhere in the range of 300 HP. The 238 HP is lacking when you got to get around a slower vehicle. The Towncar has always has been a great roadtrip vehicle. It could use less plastic in the interior...and it does use 87 octane gas.

I just Love this car. 164k now. I bought in with 144k 18 months ago; I drive it a LOT, much of it highway miles. After YEARS of owning one Camry after another, I am astounded on how’re the miles go by so effortlessly. 2.5 hours on the road in the Camry would wear me down; the Lincoln makes a 6 hour drive feel like 2.5 hours. What a dream. I’ve had to replace the AC and water pump. I’ve driven it to Chicago from Champaign Il scores of times (twice a month); to Door County WI, to Lake of the Ozarks (twice), Decatur twice a week (33 miles each way), Dothan Alabama, Galena IL, etc.. The miles melt away as you cruise down the road in comfort and safety. It gets about 22 miles per gallon. I’m a backyard mechanic, and this thing uses cheap, common Ford parts. Common problems are: AC system may be a tad prone to issues (it’s been replaced twice); there is a persistent tiny leak that wets the rear passenger side carpet (haven’t found cause yet), it’s rusting a bit over the left front and right rear wheel wells (I’ve sprayed on a rust inhibitor), and the back up alert has gone out (great feature when it works, and I will figure it out). My problems with this car are very common, it appears, on this car. I paid $3,500 for it 18 months ago and I strongly suspect I will have it for 10 more happy, comfy years. Update; car now has 177k. The only issue I’ve had is a common one with the air suspension system. There is a leak somewhere in the system; it causes a little humming / motor running sound under the battery tray. You hear it usually after starting the car and after parking it, for maybe :10 as it re-inflates the system. I intend to look for the leak in the hose. Other than that, we’ve driven it all over the Midwest and even to southern Alabama (from the Chicago area). Just love this boat. Update 5/25. Well, it’s been a journey! I had the old airbag rear suspension replaced with the traditional shock and spring combo; no regrets. The pump in the transmission failed; $1,700 later (junkyard trans) I’m back cruising. Replaced the front brake pads. Oh, and can’t forget the ignition coils being replaced. Now the cool analog clock has failed; I’m going to look into that next. I bought the car 3 years ago at 136k; it now has 203k, so I’m really driving it a LOT. The only thing I fixed that is unusual for these cars is the transmission issue. All that said, I still love this car. I’ll keep repairing it until it rusts away. Update. No issues whatever since the flurry of drive train repairs. Enjoying the Lincoln thoroughly. 208k now. No issues.

Twelve Lincolns and Counting

This is my 12th Lincoln. I traded a 2005 Signature with 30,000 miles for a 2005 Signature Limited with 5800 miles. What a difference just kicking it up to the next trim level! More comfort in the seat, heated & memory seats, chrome wheels and the trunk goes all the way up instead of just cracking open in the base Signature and a much quieter ride. Much better stereo. Definitely worth the extra bucks.
