Best Car I have EVER owned

I purchased the vehicle in July 2018. So its been a little over 3 months, but its been GREAT so far. And keep in mind, my review is based on a vehicle that was manufactured in 08/2004 and sold as a 2005 model. It is now 14 years old. Its a dinosaur in the luxury game, BUT it is still relevant. It gained wisdom and experience after all these years and will still keep owners happy as it grows older, as long as you do your part. Personally I grew up with large, gas guzzling RWD V8's. I still love them. Dodges are cool yes, but I needed reliability and I wanted to be loyal to the company that employs me. I am a MASTER ASE and Toyota Master service Technician. I may be a little bias but please read on. The dealer I work for sells Toyota AND Lexus. I started working there in 2009 and I would see the LS430 often in the parking lot. I liked it. Personally, i'm not about exotic styling. Sure that's ok, but truthfully If it has a V8 and rear wheel drive I will adapt. If it said Toyota own it instead of Lexus I wouldn't mind. For me its not about the label, its all about the V8. You hit that gas and this thing hauls @SS. It may not be as "Stylish or cutting edge" as its European counterparts, but it is abled to balance the luxury with reliability BETTER than they do. I am friends with service technicians from all MAKES and MODELS and nobody likes the LS430 because they are TOO reliable. People writing their reviews may have horror stories and that's understandable BUT a large MAJORITY of them have had MULTIPLE owners, and some treated it better than others. Some were trouble cars sold off and shipped away to another state and sold at auctions to buy here pay heres. If you didn't buy it from the dealer, theres a reason. They didn't maintain it and wanted to unload it. I was FORTUNATE to get mine after having only 1 owner. These LS's RARELY experience expensive issues and if they do, having a good relationship with the dealer helps these people tremendously. It's called loyalty and we do the same for our Toyota owners as well. Ask me ANY questions you might have and I will answer them. The PROS: SOO many. BUT my favorite feeling is when you're getting on the highway doing 25-45 and you accelerate and the THE DOHC 32v V8 starts singing and it takes off like a missile and next thing you know its at 80mph and because the interior deadens road no so damn well, you don't even realize it. With most cars, the faster you go, the louder, but the LS works in reverse. It gets quieter. the CONS: Drivers seat. To me personally, it is comfortable, but if you drop ANYTHING down the gaps, It is NEXT to impossible to recover it. The odds and ends: Its 14 years old. Technology changes and it doesn't have the features we have now like USB or Bluetooth or the NEWEST Nav, but there are a few retrofit devices on the market that help on that front, but at this age, its about transportation first and it delivers on it. Sure, it gets lower MPG compared to '18 models, but I knew what I was getting myself into so I can NOT complain about it.

Purchased this car used in 2014. Only had one prior owner who leased then purchased from 2005 to 2014. Traded up from an 2001 LS300 to this 2005 LS430. Loved the Lexus brand, just wanted a bigger car that was a little more luxury than the LS300 (which was more equivalent to a BMW 3-Series). This car is amazing to drive. My wife loves the luxury inside, the shear lack of road noise, and just how comfortable the entire experience is. Have driven it nearly 10,000 miles in just 6-months, including two extended road trips from Seattle to Wyoming....the car did amazing on the open road. Even though the car is nearly 10-years old, you would never know it. Smooth and quiet every mile.

Can't beat executive large sedan 2005 LS430!!!!

Bought mine about a year back in 2014, with 105K miles. I'm at 117K now with NO issues what so ever!!!!!! Just oil changes. For the money, you CANNOT beat the ride, quality of materials, and steering/handling this car offers. Basically cruising around in a $60-70K car when it was new, for around $12,000. Toyota reliability on the mechanical size is PERFECTION as well. Let's face it, it's Toyota engine and parts, just upgraded in quality for Lexus. YOU CANNOT HEAR THIS CAR accelerate, I can't even tell when it change gears the transition is so smooth, and even at 10 years old you can not show me another car that still rides like it's floating on air (with all original equipment). Also, the appearance is not affected by time (10 years), it still holds it's own next to any newer model luxury sedans without the maintenance issues of German or British cars. As for power, 290 horsepower! That's enough for anyone that doesn't plan on drag racing. (a 2001 Mustang GT only has around 285 horse). Do not go for the "navigation system", I never do, they age poorly in every vehicle. Your cell phone can guide you around these days. I highly recommend buying used, letting a new buyer take the initial hit, and driving away with pure top of line LS class luxury. Again, can't describe the feeling of driving one, you just have to test it out.

My fifth Lexus, fourth LS

This is my fifth Lexus. Have had a 2 1991 LS's, a 1998 LS, 2004 GS430 (mistake), and my present 2005 LS 430. The GS was too small for me (should have learned on the first 3 LS's, and I am soooo happy to be back in the seat of an LS. All it took was to sit in the drivers seat, have the seats wrap around you, the dash light up, and all of the phenomenal features at your fingertips. From the radar cruise, to the LED appointments everywhere at night, to the folding mirrors, and to have a backup camera in a sedan is a dream. I have not driven any other since 1996, and never will. As long as I can afford it, it will always be a Lexus LS.

Purchased this vehicle a month ago with 53k miles and after 3k miles and a month of driving I can say that this car is absolutely amazing. Just completed a road trip to Atlanta and averaged 27.3mpg!! Not bad for a 4,000 pound car. The fit and finish in this car is truly outstanding with no rattles or blemishes of any kind. The Mark Levinson stereo is one of the best I have heard. Althoug this car is a heavy vehicle it still has plenty of power when needed and handles very well on the road. The car has the feel of a well built automobile. This car reminds me of a better version of a 93 Mercedes 300E I owned. (The new benz's don't hold a candle to either of these cars in terms of quality.)

I traded in an almost new Lexus GX470 for a 2005 Lexus Ls 430 and it was one of the best decisions I've made! The LS430 is truly head and shoulders above the GX (albeit a different category of vehicle altogether). I've owned various lexus models (GX, SC, ES), but this is my favorite yet. The quality and comfort of this vehicle is amazing. I'm disappointed that Lexus has lost a lot of the quality over the past few years. I was considering a new LS, but honestly the quality of the new model isn't the same (even if it has a number of advanced features to offset the difference in quality). I looked for the best condition LS43s0 I could find and ended up finding one that looked brand new inside and out with only 26k miles and one owner. Money wasn't a factor in trading in the GX (I just never could get myself to love it), but walking away with $20k+ as part of the trade in was definitely nice. I'm even considering looking for and buying another equally well kept LS430 to store to replace this one when it's seen more use. However, knowing about the legendary reliability of this car, that may not happen anytime soon. If you are thinking about buying one, don't hesitate. Cars just aren't produced like this anymore.

I've purchased my 2005 LS 430 with 48,000 and it is now at 167,000. In that time I had no issues until this past year (needed a new alternator $390 and the thermastat was old and it damage the radiator hose $700). Since those issues were fixed the car rides like its brand new. I read a few other reviews and noticed when a car is serviced by lexus only, the car has major issues. Dealerships are similar to printer companies (HP, Epson etc.) lexus make there money from the service portion just like printers make there money from the ink sales. Lexus are professionals in getting you to return with an issue and will charge you 3 to 4 times the money! Stay away from dealerships and find a good local mechanic that will treat you with respect!

Just bought a used 05' LS 430 (55k miles), tremendous condition and certified through Lexus (3yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty). Wow! what a car! Previously owned a Porsche. Different types of vehicles, but the LS is an overall winner. 24- 26 mpg on the highway, tons of space, baby seat in back and front passenger can still stretch out. Quiet, powerful, smooth as silk ride. An 05' LS more reliable than most brand new vehicles. Major head turner. Would highly recommend one.

Guys, I drove everything... From Benz to Jaguar. Nothing has the quality, class, luxury, or reliability of the Lexus. The car sounds like it's off while you driving on the freeway, it's that quiet! This is hands down the best sedan on the market today. Sorry to the benz, BMW and jag loyalists out there. The Lexus is the king.

2005 used Lexus LS 430 personal experience

Hello: I never thought I would ever desire to join the community of car review writers, but I feel really driven to do it. I am just a common guy that have always loved cars since I was a child and this was transmitted to me by my dear father. Without knowing all the details of the engineering of a vehicle, I am able to feel and recognize what an excellent vehicle is when I drive it through different road surfaces, hilly roads with curves, holes, bumps, etc. I like to feel how fast the vehicle accelerates, how it breaks down to zero from high speeds, how it corners, etc. How smooth it goes over holes and bumps without feeling annoying jumping in my seat and without hearing noises inside specially at the dashboard that really bothers me. In December 2020 I purchased a 2005 Lexus LS 430 with 137,000 plus original miles. There was a leak from the valves gaskets and also from the lines of the transmission and power steering; the later two very mild. I took the car to the Lexus dealer and fixed those problems. Thanks God the car doesn’t have any other problems and is in excellent condition. I purchased the vehicle after I tested it the way I mentioned above. I compared this car with newer Lexus models, a 2018 BMW 5 series, a 2017 Cadillac. It is amazing how this old car runs, performs, how comfortable is, how silent(although not perfectly quiet) the cabin is. This is our first Lexus and honestly I will not change it for any Lexus newer model or any other car and invested money in repairs mentioned. I may keep on writing about the excellent qualities of this old car but I will just finish saying that the experience of driving or being a passenger in this old 2005 Lexus LS 430 car is much better than the one obtain from our 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE . This is a follow up of my first review of my 2005 Lexus LS430 owner experience. Today is September 29th,2021 and I purchased my Lexus in January 8th, 2021 with 137,000 plus original miles and just one previous owner. Now it has 149,753 miles because I have traveled to different states and I really like the experience of driving it around. Since I purchased the vehicle I expended money correcting leaks in the transmission, power steering fluid lines. Also there was a leak from the engine valves gasket that was as corrected and incredibly from the engine oil check deep stick . All these repairs costed thousands of dollars at the Lexus dealership but all the leaks where corrected with original parts. I also noticed that the vehicle seemed to be “floating “ at high speeds on the highway. I the shock absorbers were checked and the front ones weren’t leaking and were after market. The rear shocks were original and one was leaking. I decided to replace all four with Lexus original shock absorbers. The “floating” sensation disappeared and not only that happened. The cornering, braking and the way the car steering feels is much stiffer and it feels like a safer vehicle. I know that I have expended thousands of dollars in an old vehicle but let me tell you that has been worth the expense. Every time I take the car to the Lexus dealership they provide me with a “loaner” vehicle which have just few miles in the odometer. This cars because they are”modern” they have many electronic improvements, they are faster, etc. But, my old car is more comfortable inside and the ride is much better in terms of suspension. The newer ones are “stiffer” because they have a “sporty” suspension. When I purchased the car my wife reminded me that I will expend money because the car was old. I can tell you that now she loves the car and says that is the most comfortable of the house including her 2017 Sienna LXE that only has 20,000 miles and is “sleeping” in our garage. Considering that it is a V8 it is very fuel efficient specially if you don’t push the gas pedal to overdrive frequently. In general it has been a wonderful experience to purchase this 2005 Lexus LS430. I can only imagine how wonderful would have been to purchase it new in 2004 or 2005.

Great Luxury car with reasonable price

The LS430 is a great choice for a used luxury car. I own a used car dealership in Nashville and have owned and driven many cars in the past 20 years including Benz, Lexus IS 350 and GS 350. The LS 430 has the best ride and comfort. I also own a 2005 Benz E320 and it’s very fun to drive, and is superior to the LS430 when it comes to cornering as it has less body roll and better feel of the Road . The LS430 has very quiet ride and you can’t hear the engine or feel the transmission when it shifts between gears. The LS 430 is very capable and can be driven as a sport car especially with the sports mode shifter and it has a small turning radius like any small car.

I have always owned Lexus cars, but the newer models have gotten so unnecessarily complex that they are prone to VERY expensive failures. I could go on and on, but take for example the most recent failure of the Navigation unit. At only 28k pampered miles, the screen just up and dies. Now, not only does this screen control the GPs, but it also controls the climate control/defrost, rear view camera, Stereo including radio/CD changer. So this one gadget failing has rendered the car undriveable (no defrost.) To get it replaced is 6k....SIX thousand dollars (and not covered by warranty even though the car only has 30k miles!!) This is BAD engineering plain and simple.

Best reliable car I have ever owned with one exception. I hardly ever have trouble with it. The only thing I don't like is the plastic headlamps! And all cars have em. I keep mine very immaculate and they are not hazy but that is what happens to all the cars after they get to be a few years old and or condensation gets inside and that is not good go back to glass please !!! I highly recommend this car and imo it beats the new 460 on reliability.

I have owned this car brand new for almost 7 years. In the beginning I was flabbergasted at the wonderful level of support and service. I trusted the reviews of reliability and long lasting promises of this car, as it was our retirement car and more money than we have EVER spent for a vehicle. We have done every service recommended and not let anyone but the dealer touch the car. It was treated impeccably. It would take several pages to tell you what has gone wrong with this car! Things like shocks/struts leaking, AC compressor, seat belts, battery, interior malfunctions, trunk button/shock lifts, brakes, tire indicators malfunction, auto door closer, ETC! Lexus says, too bad, no warr

Overall, I am very happy with the car. It performs well, rides very well, and is a real joy to drive. Though I paid dearly for not buying OEM-specified tires, I have dealt with a few defects (AC vent sweep, passenger mirror failure, headlamp gasket replacement, and a manufacture- defected windshield). Also, (as a safety issue) I have a problem with the mirrors rotating in before exiting the vehicle, especially when parking on the street. Even with these drawbacks, I would definitely recommend this vehicle.

My second LS 430, this one trumps the 02 I had easily. The seats are much improved, and near perfect now. Handling is better, though not a Bimmer, it's good. Dependability is perfect. Love the Bluetooth phone, which works flawlessly with my Treo every time. The A/C is the best I've ever known, and the cooled seats are welcome in the desert. Can't get more luxury value for the money, IMO.

The 2005 Lexus 430 LS is the best luxury driving machine I.ever driven. I have taken several long trips in it with my brother to the coast of florida . I drove it all the time. What a experience it was. I couldn't feel the road at all. I feltl like I was floating down the interstate. Awesome Mark Levinson sound system made the ride even more enjoyable. Heated and cooled seats long with plenty of trunk space just to mention a few extras. I don't understand why Lexus would quit making this particular model. It has the European look that makes it stand out even more. The quality in this vehicle is excellent. Why would you take perfection and make a mess out of it?

I have owned most luxury brands, and this is by far the best car I have owned (I got the Modern Luxury package with SmartAccess). I tested the others, but the Lexus was simply in a different league. Ride quality is extraordinary-- both smooth and quiet. The interior is exceptionally well crafted. If you cannot get comfortable in the LS 430's seats, you simply cannot get comfortable in any car. Performance is better than I expected. The LS 430 does not have quite as many technological gadgets as the Acura or Infiniti, but it certainly has enough.

It's like driving your living room. Nothing could be more comfortable to drive. Lexus has thought of everything and then some. The electronics are amazing. I was not overly impressed with the Mark Levinson radio which is an expensive item and must come with the Navigation. The service and delivery does live up to the Lexus reputation.

I have owned more than 50 cars since 1979, a few new but most were preowned. The 2005 LS430 I recently purchased with 54K miles is hands down the best of the bunch. Quiet, smooth, strong, comfortable, amazing engineering and assembly quality - what more can one ask for? Find one with lower miles and a limited number of previous owners and hang onto it. Newer cars may have more gizmos but if you are like me and don’t want tons of tech the 430 may be for you. My car lacks the nav screen and the troublesome air suspension of the Ultra version and I couldn’t be happier. Expect a few issues on an older car but if you are reasonably good with hand tools and you take advantage of the online support offered for these cars you will do fine. Every time I drive mine it makes me smile, and I hope to keep it for many years.

Lexus is stand alone quality, reliability, and comfort. This car is no exception. It DOES have sporty handling - all the driver need do is utilize the controls at their disposal, namely to down shift and place in "sport" mode, and then the vehicle literally behaves like a sports car. Lexus is the enlightened choice. It is the most economical choice, because of its durability and reliability. Since it lasts three times longer than a quality cheap car, it is the most economical and enlightened car purchase choice. These are the facts. Safe driving to you.

Has so much more to offer than any other car in its class for the price. Everything it offers is useful and for the most part easy to use. Superior build and sooooo quiet. A hesitant transmission at some low speeds is the only negative and eventually we have gotten used to it. Finding a car with the full options in the color we wanted was the toughest part of the sale.

Uncomfortable driver's seat.

You would think that Lexus would have spent more time testing the driver's seat comfort in their "flagship" sedan. I have owned this car for a month and will sell it as soon as possible. It feels like you are sitting in a hole the longer you sit in the driver's seat. In addition the armrest is uncomfortable due to lack of adequate padding and large seam. My other car is a 1999 ES 300. It has the most comfortable seats and driving position of any car I have ever owned. At any rate, my next car will be a Jaguar or Mercedes (with 100K warranty) more exciting design and road feel but less reliability. The trade off will be worth it this time around.

Problems: 1) drivers seat not comfortable - feels like you sit in a hole and perforated seats don't permit you to move easily. 2) No good way to run XM antenna in the trunk. 3) Hard to see orange letters on display (too small). 4) Ride too hard with low profile tires.

My LS430 has been plagued with some minor and one major problem. Lexus and the dealership have given up. Is this what I paid $70k for? It is not the reputation I had heard about and influenced me into buying a Lexus. Navigation system very unfriendly and at times useless. I think I will try an XJ8L - at least it looks more stylish.

All But the Transmission

I traded a 2004 ES330 for an 05 LS430 because of the jerky transmission shifting. The LS isn't much better, at a slow roll, shifting is very erratic. Again, the mechanics say it's "normal". For $60K the transmission (or computer that controls it) shouldn't be "confused". Sadly, my $15K Dodge pick-up shifts much better (seamless) for a fourth of the cost. Big disappointment.

Whilst the Lexus is a superb car it is not perfect and I have had numerous problems which the dealership were not very cooperative in dealing with. These include a sun roof which rattles at low speed, spurious warnings from the low tire pressure sensors, and a time lag on the accelerator.

I Love my LS 430. It's a 2005 with 78,000 miles, we only drive it on long trips and special occasions. I have rode in BMW's , Mercedes Cadillacs and Hyundai Genesis. I'm sorry nothing is as quiet and smooth as this LS. It is loaded with everything we need and reasonable to upkeep. We have thought about buying another one but nothing is wrong with this one. My husband went out and bought himself a 2004.

When needing a new car with enough room for a tall family of (4), I did my research with the Lexus LS 430 and the BMW 745. As you can see, the Lexus LS 430 was my decision. I must say, what an excellent choice! For me to sit in the back seats and have room enough to close the doors and be comfortable was a must. Plus the reliability factor was a no brainer. Comfortable, quiet eye catcher! Not a car to reach 60 miles in 5.6 secs. That's what the Lexus GS is for. This is a grown man's car. I took her for her 60k maintenance yesterday and it was a hefty bill. But I know it was well worth the money. My mind is made up to get another once the wheels have fallen off this one.

I love the car. The interior design seems to be flawless. The smoothness, the quiet ride and comfort are all excellent. A minor problem is I keep hitting the audio button when I am on the touch screen for navigation. I have been to the dealership for a suspension problem four times and so far I have had no luck of getting the problem resolved. The car is sitting higher on one side. The air suspension is a very complicated system since it is controlled by the computer. The Service Manager told me that it is normal to have a variation of up to one inch. The height of the car on one side is much apparently higher. I measured it close to 3/4 of an inch. Consider this comment before buying one.

This is my absolute favorite automobile. I have owned a Benz S and a BMW 7, and neither compair to the LS 430. The Lexus is hands down the best luxury car on the road. never had any problems, as i did with the BMW and the Benz, and i spent less in the Lexus. the ride is much, much smoother and softer, the engine has more then enough power for any luxury car driver. I will never drive anything other then a LS, Best Car on the road.

I test drove several cars including Mercedes S class, BMWs, Jaguars. etc. I chose this car because of reliability, price and the whole package. I bought the ultra luxury package which comes with a massager in the back seat, navigation, sound system, smart key, parking sensors, back auto shades, etc. The handling is great in this car. I have left my keys in the car twice at the shopping mall cause I couldn't hear the engine running. This car also gets great gas on the highway. I can drive from Atlanta to northern VA on a full tank of gas. I was very impressed. I never had any problems.

The most powerful, well equipped luxury vehicle in any class. Our LS is equipped with the sports suspension. The power when I accelerate is unreal. The soft leather heated and cooling seats are the ultimate. It handles like a charm on the road. It is so comfortable that when driving I feel like I will fall asleep. The 18 inch tires grip the road. It makes you feel like you are flying on land. When riding as a passenger, I feel like I am flying in first class on a 757.

This is my third Lexus 400/430 and it the best. Lexus has an understanding for what the consumer thinks is luxury. They do not load up the car with fancy technology that you do not need. They focus on making your ride as safe and comfortable as possible.

The LS 430 is pleasure to drive. I recently completed a 10 hour trip in the LS and I was ready to turn around and make the return trip. I was not tired or uncomfortable at anytime during the trip. The radar cruise control is easy to use takes all of the stress out of the drive. The seating is very comforable and roomy. All of the systems, such as the navigation, satilite radio/audio and the ventilation system are easy to use. The air suspension and braking system is flawless.

Way back in 05 I went with a friend to the Lexus dealer and we drove home in an LS430 with the ultra luxury package . Move ahead now 16 years I had a chance to buy the car , which I did to replace my wife's car, a 2006 Toyota Avalon limited which was also a great car but had a few problems, so instead I bought my friend's Lexus. My car is a 2015 Audi S7 ,which is a fast sporty sedan, the kind of car I've always liked. The Audi got a flat tire and sat in the driveway ,so I used the Lexus a lot and the more I drove it the more I realized this is truly an incredible car. Not sporty ,not fast but quick, I began to feel I was in an incredibly well-built solid quiet smooth car. I am now 78 years old and have come to realize I'm going to keep this car in our family until I get planted 👍😆

This car is the smoothest riding car I have ever owned. I bought it with 180k on the clock but it rides and drives like a brand new one. I have had several mercedes and all were good cars but this Lexus blows them away by far ! I probably will never buy another Benz because they don`t stack up well against Lexus !

Having previously owned a number of high-end Euro sedans, most recently a 2000 BMW 750iL, I was not expecting to be as impressed with the LS as I was, especially with its 0-60 sprint. The standard amenities are more than competitive with the Euro's. All available options are on par with the competition. I would ideally like to see a longer wheelbase on this car. While the LS does not provide the driving excitement that makes me create errands just to leave the house, it does provide what I feel is the most polished ride I have experienced. This would be THE car to take on an extended trip. Bottom line, I don't wish I had an S-Class, A8, nor a 7-Series, all of which were test driven.
