210K Going Strong
A little gem still performing flawlessly after all these years/miles. So solid we decided to re-upholster and re-paint, including new headlights and tail lights. Looks like a new car and still performs like one. This is a classic which I will maintain as an antique. Equipped with top end tires she handles like the European Sports Car she was designed to emulate. We are proud to drive up in this winner.
1993 Lexus ES 300
If Toyota has a new model of this car I would like to purchase it. Or if anyone else has it. That should tell you what I think of this car. I am 81 years old, and no vehicle I ever owned in my life remotely compares to this vehicle. All it needed was maintenance according to the owners manual.

good little lex
i got this manual transmission 93 es300 with 170000 miles on it and it still ran great the owner before me replaced the clutch and thats it.now it has 256000 miles on it and still runs great the paint is still perfect leather is cracked some but not much the key fob quit working for the locks and the antenna just stays up all the time now..alls i do is change the oil and i just put new brakes on it other than that its a great car.....i am going to upgrade to a 400 next time though maybe a gs something still 4 door with a v8 although i will miss that my es300 gets 31 miles to the gallon on the highway which people tell me is above average i think it has to do with the manual transmission..
Damn Great Ride
Best car I have ever owned including Mercedes and BMW. I'll buy one again ... no problem.
Brought from Private Party
I brought my car from a first owner and all work done at the dealer. The car runs smooth and sound quality is great. The three mid-size people I carpool with sits decently comfortable better than the beat-up Mercury Tracer station wagon that felt cramped and could bearly make it up the steep mountain to get out of town. The car is very powerful, but a gas guzzer. The cheapest gas price in N. Cal's area near me is $1.70 a gallon. I do love driving the car, but the cost of maintanence is costly even when it's not being done at the dealer. It costed me almost $400 to change the timing belt.
Great car, now has 250K miles
This car looks like and drives like it drinks from the fountain of youth. It's almost incomprehensible that it's been on the road for nearly 14 years and driven 18000 miles a year. If 'lacks character' means bulletproof reliability and no surprises - so be it! Design-wise and mechanically, it ain't perfect - but nearly. I look forward to buying another Lexus; I just wish they offered more in the way of wagons and AWD.
lex is it
This front wheel drive car is great. I have a newer one (GS) But that ES is a grand automobile/vehicle not a car. If you want dependability the ES is for you. I wanted the 2000 ES but I got the GS SHOW TIME. I don't know if it'll compair with the ES but from my experience with the ES I'll try it...
Tell the truth
So far I have had to replace the engine (after e warranty $6600). Oil leak ($600.00). Another oil leak ($800.00). Brakes ($700.00). Annual maintenance ($500.00). I purchased this car used in 1995, and have had my wallet opened every year since then.
good and bad
When my favorite Maxima got stolen I purchased this car with 63k from a friend who owned it only for 2 months, because of the Lexus reputation for quality. It now has 170k. When I got it, there were no problems. Soon I had to put a new radiator, waterpump, timing belt, fuel injectors. Shocks broken, engine leaks oil/overheat, water in the rearlight, the power radio stays up and doesn't retract, and not working long time ago. The hood doesn't stay open/hinges don't work, and A/C doesn't work in humid/rainy days, some of the instrument cluster lights are burned out, the truck needs to open with the key LOT of issues/little things keep me wonder what's happened to the Lexus quality...
First and finest of the breed
Bought used with about 6 thousand on it. Drove and loved until this year when upgraded to an LS 400. Sold to our son who still enjoys it. Fit and finish of this first-year-in-USA ES 300 far exceeds the current models. When you find a 92 or 93 in good condition it is worth a look. This one still quiet and solid on the road, responsive and fun to drive. Engines can be reconditioned if needed, but style only comes around now and then. Keep this car until it is an antique.
perfect car
I purchased this vehicle from a friends grandparents with only 60k for $6000. It was the best car that I have ever owned, that is until I was rearended at a stop light by a young girl talking on the phone. It held up well for a rear impact at roughly 60mph. All passengers walked away with only minor damage. The car was fixed, but never the same. I sold it shortly thereafter. SOLD for more than I paid! I sure do miss it. By far the best car for the best price. MPG left a little to be desired. Leather was impeccable. I am currently on the hunt for another Lexus, as my Grand Cherokee just isn't cutting the mustard. Till that time comes, she will be in my dreams.
Delighted Lexus owner!!
I bought my "Lexi" one month ago and couldn't be happier with this car! She does have 153k miles on her but with on-time, routine maintenance, these cars will run/last a VERY long time. The comfort is great, spacious interior, FAST engine and endless reliability! I feel like I'm riding on a cloud, it's so smooth! Beautiful car in & out and VERY highly recommended to anyone!!
Reliable Luxury!
I purchased my Lexi last Dec. 11, with 152k miles on her and it was an even trade for my V-6 (TRASH!!) '9s Toyota Camry!!! She needed a new alternator ($288, including labor charges) and my next few fixes are valve cover gasket, wheel bearing on driver side (not sure front or back), replacement fog lights, and new p-steering and alternator belt, which are slightly loose. She has a beautiful quiet motor and a serene, tranquil ride. I'd like to give her a good 4 wheel balance soon. Sadly, the previous owner did NOT take good care of her, so I'm cleaning up their mistakes!! Highly recommended for superior reliability and performance!! I'll NEVER part with her! (Unless the wheels fall off!)
Endless reliability!!!
I traded my '93 V-6 Camry in on a '93 Lexus ES300 and have been very happy with it. The ride is super quiet and smooth and feels as if I'm in a newer car!! The suspension is nice and soft and absorbs bumps without any harsh ride. It has 153k miles (only 152k at trade-in time)and you'd never know it. It does need some fixes, but does not in any way interfere with the reliability or drivability. Needed repairs: 2 cv axles, new exhaust flexpipe, valve cover gasket and power steering and alternator belts. Possibly new tie rod ends, due to loose, sloppy steering and too much freeplay. These engines never die and can go to 400K with NO problems!!
Reliable and Luxurious
I'm a teenager who just recieved their license. I kept bugging my parents about getting a 1993 Mercedes 190-E 2.6 as a third car that I could drive. We looked at some, but we thought that they looked too old for the model year and lacked great performance. Then, when a family member was selling their 1993 Lexus ES 300, we knew we were in luck. While this is Lexus's base model which is based on the Toyota Camry, the car is more luxurious and came fully loaded w/ power everything as well as leather, premium stereo, moon roof, phone in front armrest, premium wheels, and ABS. Also the 3.0 L 185 hp. V-6 engine is impressive.
Very reliable with luxury features
Fantastic Car. With a mileage of 126000, the car is still running smoothly without ANY problems. It was imported directly from Japan! The electronic system is very practical and useful. Lexus = Luxury & Reliable
What an awsome veicle
I love this car. The best auto I have ever owned. This is not a car it's a machine. If you can afford one-buy it.
Great high-mileage starter car
Got my '93 ES300 when I was in school 4 years ago with 180,000 miles on her. Now have 228,000 miles and still runs strong. Only "big" repair I had done was swapping out the transmission which put me back about $1500 a year after I bought it. Comfortable interior, great drivetrain that takes all kinds of abuse (as mine had with previous owners...trans went out because it went 180k miles on original fluid) and runs forever with original parts. If you take care of this thing and simply check/change fluids regularly, it will exceed your expectations. Update: the one problem that I've run into with high mileage is suspension bits wearing out. Parts are cheap, but if you have a shop doing all the work or you don't know how to diagnose which piece is causing an issue, you'll probably end up spending a bit tracking down the culprits.

Great first car
For my first car I got a 1992 Lexus ES300 for only $1,400. It has about 240,300 miles on it but it still drives good most the time. The only things I don't like about it is it's awful MPG. It's supposed to get 19 but I am only getting 14! The other thing I don't like is there is no cup holder, or at least I haven't found it yet. I have only had one problem with it so far and that is the cruise control doesn't work most the time. Overall it's a great car, out of all the cars I've driven (friends & family) I like how mine drives the best. I plan to keep driving my Lexus until I graduate high school than I will probably buy a Jeep but keep the Lexus and possibly fix it up.
92 Lexus ES300 Fantastic
This car has already become the BEST car I have ever owned including Mercedes and BMW. The only thing wrong with it is the Instrument Cluster Needles went dark..easily fixed by DASHUSA.COM for only 350.00 a permanent fix. Only run Mobile 1 syn oil and factory filters. Only has 111000 miles on it and expecting another 100,000. Fantastic car would buy another one, in a heartbeat.
Lexus ES 300
This was was OK until it hit around 115k miles. I thought it would be good for 300K+, but everything from the power steering, to the water pump, thermostat, windows, doors, etc. went bad. I am not including maintenance stuff like batteries, brakes, tires, timing belts, muffler, etc. In a word the car was a longetivity dud.
Great Used Car
Bought privately at 56,000 miles from a neighbour who had looked after it well from new and had it detailed every six months or so. Black with black leather. Given great service and performance ever since. Completely reliable, with regular oil changes. Brake fluid leaking a little, but stopped with sealant. Instrument lights weak but I can live with that. 28 MPG (USG) on longer trips. Replaced the radio antenna(my fault) twice for $50 each. My Legend cost me $150 for the same thing.
Excellent car!
This is my second used Lexus vehicle. This one has 140,000+ miles and is perfect! No complaints at all!
Lexus proves itself with the '92 ES300!
Excellent vehicle, the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and my ES has close to 200,000 miles! I'd quickly buy another even with over 100,000 miles. Maybe 150,000 miles!
My ES300
Bought this car at 60000 miles "as new" from a friend who had kept it in cotton wool - washed at dealer's every week; detailed several times a year, timing belt just done, etc etc. Great car, reliable, quiet and comfortable. Nothing gone wrong since except an oil leak from where the filter fits which created smoke and nasty smells. Easily and cheaply fixed.
good deal
I purchased the car for only $6,000 with low miles. What an exceptional car? It drives smoothly, handles the road well, and it hugs you just like it was meant for you!
quick notes
owned from 90k to 140k 1997 to april '04, sold today for $4450 but wanted to pay homage. catal converter failed last year. replaced motor mounts to pass inspection for sale. pwr antenna broke at 100k and one window had to be reset in track last yr.. otherwise all maintenance has been routine. best car i ever owned!
228,500+ miles and still going
I gambled on Toyota's reliability when I bought this car with 192,000 miles on it. Now my ES 300 has 228,500 miles on it and it still runs well.
Awesome ride
So far so good, no major problems, upper motor mount broke, but only $60 for the part and easy to replace. Get free loaner cars from the dealership when in for service... very nice.

Awesome Car!
This is now the second used car that I have purchased. My first car was a Mazda, and within the first year of driving it, I had spent over $2000 CDN in repairs! The ES300 on the other hand has not given me any major problems at all for the year that I have owned it. All that I have had to fix was a leak in the exhaust ($50) and a dead battery ($60). This vehicle has the same engine as the Camry of the same year, so repairs should not be too expensive and used parts should be easy to come by. Overall, it is an awesome car!
ES300 PURSUIT OF PERFECTION
excellent vehicle. highly recommended! probably the best used car you could buy.
What a car!
After having transmission problems on my 1985 Mazda 626 LX, I purchased my 1993 Lexus ES300. Excellent car for the price. had 132k when I bought it. Now has 164k+. Nothing major has needed to be replaced. I burnt out the alternator with a subwoofer, but that was a dumb on my part. Long lasting parts, and a smooth, comfortable ride.
Luxury & Reliability all in one!!
I've been driving my ES 300 for almost 4 yrs without any problems. At the time I purchased one, I was a single mom who wanted a car to depend on. Not only was the price right but the extended warranty and excellent service that I recieve from the Lexus dealer is unsurppased. The ride is sporty with a high end car feel. The interior is the same. When you drive this you sure are a head turner. This model also offers superior craftsmanship the has definitly decreased with new models of cars that are coming out. Even as the car ages, their are no mechanical problems that one might expect with a 10 year old car. One regular maintance is required.
Lexus Quality?
I purchased this car because of the Lexus reputation for quality. In the year I have owned it: - I had water in the headlight due to a bad seal - The power antenna stopped working. - The hood doesn't stay open. - The side window just dropped into the door one rainy day. - I have an idiot light that flickers on and off. Nitpick - You can't fit an aftermarket stereo in it without cheesy looking adapters. The factory CD player is $1500. Please. It's cheaper to manufacture a CD player; put the better, cheaper solution in EVERY car. Certainly no major problems, but enough little things to question the Lexus reputation...
Great Little Car
We bought this car in July of 1993 and it has proven a fantastic performer ever since. One hiccup came in '97 when we had to replace the engine. Thankfully, it was still under warranty! Overall, very mechanically sound as well as very fun to drive. Great car!
You get what you pay for!
What a vehichle! My car has 101k and it rides and drives like there is half that! I love it, just be sure that you can afford to fix it if something ever goes wrong.
Good used car ($'s for repair)
I bought this car with 181,000 miles for $3,000 from an Ebay auction. I've invested another $2,000 into mechanical repairs (pwr steer, fuel sys., brakes, fluids, instrument cluster, tune up, various lights and cd cart). I thought I was getting a deal when I bought this car but the repair costs have made me reconsider whether this was a good purchase at all. The exterior/interior have been maintained very well. The paint looks very good for the age. The car has an exceptional ride and delivers alot of performance for a car with this mileage and age. Cons are the high price for repair and the customer service at the dealership is very poor.
Little problems
We bought this car with 78,000 miles. It now has 100,000. When we got it, there were no problems. Soon afterwards, we had to get a new radiator and front end struts. The hood shock absorbers/hinges don't work, so we have to prop up the hood when repairing. The radio antenna stays up and doesn't retract, the timing belt is worn out and now the front end struts are loose again. Also, some of the instrument cluster lights are burned out. It looks like the previous owner didn't take very good care of the car. If it was taken care of properly, I bet it would be a wonderful car. Also, the engine leaks oil, about 1 quart every 5000 miles.
Great car
This Lexus ES300 has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. It is a joy to drive and is incredibly well designed. I can't say enough about the reliability.
Excellent Lexus
When my dad had bought this car, he had got it custoed ordered. Instead of a 2- tone body he got a one tone. The color was burgandy. We got it fully loaded with all the options. Later on in 97' when the new ES came out we decided to give the car a face lift. So we went ahead and changed the old OEM wheels to the 1997 LEXUS ES300 wheels. MY dad has given the car to me and i love it. The paint looks new and the car drives smoothly. I say I have one rare car. Plus I have black interior :). And a 131,000 miles is nothin for this car.
A Classic Beauty
We bought this pearl white Lexus new and have had very little repair necessary, and even that was just recently after over 85,000. My wife is the primary driver and she loves the car. We have ordered a new MB E-class, but it was all I could do to get her to agree to a change. Unfortunately, we feel they have ruined the ES300 with this year's design changes - otherwise, we would have bought another one.
Nice
I really love this car, I wish it only had more things to make it a faster car aftermarket wise. But thats what you get when you buy a 4 door luxury car. The only reason I want to ell it is because I need a 2 door sports car, end of story. but if thast not your boat, this is. Quick V6 and gentle trany.
Great Vehicle
I really like this car. Beautiful interior, and very nice exterior, great ride, works great!
