1995 Land Rover Range Rover LWB
My father originally purchased this car for himself, but gave it to me for my 18th birthday, and let me tell you what a blast this car is. It is one of those cars that set one apart from the rest, whether its blasting your friends in a friendly off-roading excursion (yes i do take it into the wild frontier), or crusing on a friday with a full car, I love driving it. The killer stock sound system was surprising, and I love both the awe factor and functionality of the air springs. The only bummer with it is the killer gas milage, but thats what anyone with an SUV should expect.
Happy with 1996 Range Rover
I purchased a used 1996 4.0 Range Rover with 33,000 miles on it in December 2001 and have been very pleased with the car. There is no comparison to any other SUV as far as luxury; Range Rover is the "Creme de la creme". Definately the Ultimate 4x4! Also definately don't buy a new one, wait a few years and pay half the new retail sticker - I picked mine up for $29,000 and the sticker on new ones is over $60,000.
Own a life sized exterior paper weight!
The truck looks like a dream, but runs like a nightmare. The EAS system is a joke, the engine is as fragile as a crystal glass. I've had to change the head gasket within 2 months of owning the truck, to only have the engine crack while warming it up in the winter time. For an engine to crack while trying to warm it up is a disgrace!
Looking For a New One!
Purchased new, this vehicle has been enjoyable to drive but at a price! Those shy to maintenance should avoid this SUV. My extended warrany more than paid for itself. I would hightly recommend one for any hight end SUV. Rust on the bonnet and tailgate need to be checked regularly as well as front brakes. Fluid leaks were a problem early on but were successfully fixed 5 yrs ago. Rear seat room is tight and rear door handles are tricky to reach. I wish I got the LWB instead but this is great truck none the less. I'm looking for a 2003 Range Rover now!
1995 Range Rover LWB - Best All-around
I purchased a used '95 Range Rover LWB 10 months ago with 95k miles. Body/interior were in good condition and mechanically it was very good. I've had no mechanical problems (yet). I try to use it only for camping/off- roading and ski trips. It's been difficult to limit driving time to just those trips as the car is comfortably spacious and reassuring to drive. The car really does deliver that "magic carpet ride" when driving off-road. The sound system is excellent. The breaking is superb. I drove it to Tahoe and back in a snow storm and while others were tossed about by the winds, we rode comfortably through. Love the heated windshield.
