2022 Kia Seltos EX 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

A month ago, I traded in my 2013 base Soul for the 2022 Seltos EX, and love it. I've put just over 400 miles on it, most of it cross town commuter driving. I'll start my review discussing what I've read in other reviews, then finish up with some general observations. I agree with most of the reviews concerning front seat head and leg room. I'm 6' tall and find both to be substantial, even with the sunroof, which is standard with the EX. Some reviewers were also impressed with back seat legroom, but I beg to differ there. If you're a 6 footer and will be carting around 2 or 3 other large adults, you should probably opt for a larger vehicle. The back seat passenger(s) will not be very comfortable in the Seltos. That's a non-factor for us, as it's usually just my wife and me. If we'll be taking anyone else, we'll take her Equinox. One of the "cons" from expert reviews is that the standard engine is under powered. I find that it has plenty of pep. Unless you want a car to take to the drag strip or the Indy 500, the base engine will do just fine. When I have taken it on the highway, I've had plenty of power to merge into traffic and pass slower vehicles. One complaint, primarily on owner reviews, is that if you don't want to use ISG (Idle Stop Go), you need to turn it off every time you start the car. Well, that's not unique to the Seltos, or even Kia in the whole. Most modern cars have that feature, and most of them default to "on" every time the car is started. More about ISG later. Now for my general observations. I find the Seltos extremely comfortable. I'm a 70 year old six footer, and have no trouble getting in and out of it. I've got plenty of driver's head and leg room, and my foot goes easily between the accelerator and brake - unlike some cars I've driven. The leatherette seats in the EX are plenty comfortable for short local driving, but may leave a bit to be desired for longer trips. I like the leather padding on the steering wheel. I've put a cover on the wheel of most of the other cars that I've owned, but didn't need to do it with the Seltos. I had never before driven a car with either CVT or all wheel drive. I fully expected that they would take some getting used to, but that has not been the case. If anything, the CVT is smoother and quieter than some of the cars I've had with traditional automatic transmission. When I first got the car, I had the display on that shows how much power goes to each wheel. It showed that under normal situations, all power went to the front wheels. It rained on a couple days and on those days, there was a bit of power going to the back wheels as I was accelerating, the switched to front wheel only once I got up to speed. I've gotten excellent gas mileage. Most of my driving has been in town, and I've been getting 28-29 MPG regularly. The infotainment system, navigation, and driver displays all took a little effort to learn, but they make sense. For the size car, there is ample cargo space - even more when we fold the back seats down. And we can drop the back floor down a bit and give even more space. I like the fact that the Seltos actually came with a spare tire. A lot of cars sold today just have a tire repair kit - no spare. The car came with a complementary 1 year subscription to UVO. It was kind of glitchy at first, specifically using it to remote start the car. However, I was able to get it fixed after a couple of emails to tech support. An interesting note is that for a week or so after I got the car, each time I got home and parked the car in the garage, I got an email reminding me that my doors were unlocked. After that, the emails stopped coming. Maybe the app "learned" my habits and determined that it was the normal situation Back to ISG. I like it. The engine always starts up again as soon as I take my foot off the brake pedal, and it's smooth and quiet. The only way I know that the engine has started again is the tachometer and the engine stopped symbol is not illuminated. I frankly do not understand why anyone would NOT want to use it. One argument I've heard is that more gas is burned each time the engine is started. That is false. It may have once been the case, but not with modern fuel injection engines. Another argument is that it's hard on the starter and the engine. Again, both have been improved. For example, 30 years ago, a starter could typically last 50,000 start events before failing. Now, that's been increased 10 fold - up to 500,000. And motor oils have also been improved. Also, it's COLD starts that put more pressure on the starter and engine - not warm starts where the oil is already circulating. True, ISG does not result in a huge fuel savings, but every little bit helps. And ditto with reduced pollution.

Pros: The infotainment system works well and has a lot of features. The touchscreen is one of the biggest I've seen for a car. The Apple CarPlay feature works great. The safety features are also great and not intrusive while driving. The interior is synthetic leather and gives this small SUV an upscale feeling. I love the exterior appearance of the vehicle. The audio sounds good, even though it's not the Bose system. The cargo space can hold quite a bit despite the car's size. Cons: There's quite a bit of wind and road noise while driving. The acceleration is lackluster, but that's to be expected when you don't get the turbocharged engine. The front seats can be a bit uncomfortable on long rides, especially for your lower back.

Fantastic gas mileage for SUV

I love this vehicle. It's the perfect size and mine with the 2.0 4 cylinder engine with AWD gets roughly 28 mpg. It's unbelievable. I have the S AWD trim. It has heated seats and mirrors with a nice 10 inch infotainment screen. The infotainment is a little finicky and I wish there were a few more options to tweak it but it's pretty cool. Has remote start and surprisingly a lot of space inside for cargo. Driver space is actually decent. I'm a 350 pound male and feel very comfortable in it. It will ding forever if you don't buckle up so I just put the passenger seatbelt in the driver slot to stop that. Really annoying and loud. Seats are easy to fold down for more storage space. A blotch on it is the driver seat is manually adjusted which is a little disappointing for $26000. AWD works great so far living up north of USA where we get a lot of snow. One thing is the vents are very lackluster as far as air flow. They just don't seem to produce a very good stream of air where you want it. My biggest gripe by far is that if any water gets on the car and you crack your window a bit to smoke or just want some fresh air water will come pouring into the cabin all over the door instrument panel. I have ordered window shields to hopefully reduce this problem. As far as power goes. It has power. Great acceleration. Especially in sport mode. The lane assist and lane keeping work alright. It's a little disappointing compared to an older model forte I rented. It will turn off randomly especially in the middle of a turn. It's anal about keeping your hands on the wheel but you just have to be touching it with skin so a knee does work if your in shorts. Reverse camera is a nice feature that I have gotten used to now and really appreciate. The door has a button so if you push it with the key nearby you can lock or unlock all the doors. The gdi engine is a bit loud and sounds like a regular car that has a valve issue and there is a noticeable hissing sound from underneath by the back driver wheel that I am told is the fuel pump. All in all I really love the vehicle and especially the great gas mileage.

I purchased my 2022 Kia Seltos in November of 2021. I didn’t have any issues until recently. I was casually driving in mid-day traffic and all of a sudden my dashboard goes completely blank as if I had turned the car off. A few seconds later the dashboard illuminated all the caution signs. The check engine, check oil, transmission light, windshield fluid light just to name a few. the speedometer and RPM all disappeared. Before this issue, my radio display went blank and would not come on. I had to park the car, turn it off and crank it back up in order to listen to my radio. For this car to be brand spanking new, it’s having some huge issues already.

I test drove a 2023 white Kia Seltos with plum interior and fell completely in love. It is a turbo, so it is peppy and a very comfortable ride. My boyfriend, who has a 2020 Lexus RC350, and is hard to please became smitten with it after he drove it. Great car.

Dashes through the Snow

Two winters ago my Minnesota city had a seasonal record snowfall of ten feet. By January half the time I was stuck in my house, as my FWD sedan couldn't make it up the steep hill to the driveway. I reluctantly decided I needed to get an AWD vehicle. After looking at AWD Nissans, Buicks, Toyotas, and Mazdas, I chose the Seltos. I wanted a small SUV to fit into my 1950's garage and to accommodate my arthritic border collie. The Seltos has worked out very well. Its strong points: quiet, (relatively) powerful 4-cyl engine that goes easily up hills; excellent traction in snow; roomy (relatively) cargo area; rubber mats to contain melted snow and road grime; rapid warming of "rear roasting" seats; clear backup camera. Quite a few people have complimented my Seltos on its attractive exterior--a white roof and dark blue body. Negatives: The dashboard controls are way too complicated. I'm always having to look up how to do this or that. It's bossy and tells me I should take a break, even though I've driven only 15 minutes on the highway. I discovered that the roof rack is ornamental--It has no slits for tie-down cords. The highway gas mileage is good, getting 39 mpg on 55 mph drives to the cabin. I've had it two years and have driven it only 5800 miles, so it remains to be seen how reliable it is. I don't know why Kia chose the spelling "Seltos", when it's named after the mythological father of the Celts (pronounced with a hard "C"). I like the alliteration of "Kia Keltos" better, and that's what I call it.

Shortly after my daughter purchased the 2022 Kia Seltos, she has had nothing but trouble. All the controls in the vehicle just stop. It all goes black. She has completely no idea if anything is working. Lights, blinker, horn, etc. and the only way she can tell how fast she is going is thank god for her cell phone. She at least can see on her cell phone, the speed. She has to drive an hour to and from work 5 days a week. The worst part of it is, when she tries to get it into the Dealership, everytime, it's like two weeks or more before she can get an appointment. Then by the time she is able to get it there, the controls are working again and she is told that they can not do anything until the vehicle controls are not working. She has been through this so many times, it's ridiculous. Then they will tell her to leave the vehicle for a couple of days and they will check on it, but being a single mom, having one vehicle, they will tell her, everytime, they do not have any rental vehicles to provide for her. It's a lost cause either way she goes.

Coming from a Sorento Lx 2015 , I appreciate smaller , more agile vehicule , sharper turning radius .The 2 liters engine with intelligent cvt gives more acceleration than expected reaching redline easily in sport mode. Wished an electric seat for driver but Lx is Lx . Styling , finish gives ownership a sense of proud.Bay engine breathes modernity with solid components.Too bad that Canadians receive a shorter warranty : 60,000 versus 100,000 miles.Few missing utilities that cost pennies are not there : trunk 12 v outlet , rear seat usb. My final note : one of the leader of the classroom in this price bracket.

Kia Seltos GTline Gearbox problems

Bennie, 02/10/2023
2023 Kia Seltos Nightfall 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

At first I was very impressed with the power, performance and responsiveness of my new Kia. One month later the car developed some rather disturbing transmission problems. If you are driving on the highway, behind a slower moving vehicle and need to accelerate when passing the slower vehicle, the transmission does not drop to a lower gear and allows the car to accelerate. Instead, the car remains in the same high gear and does not accelerate at all, leaving you sitting next to the slower vehicle with irritated motorists queuing up behind you. In another instance, when entering the highway and accelerating to get up to speed to filter in, the car gets stuck in a lower gear with the rev counter touching on the red and the transmission does not change into a higher gear. The engine light came on and the vehicle was returned to Kia to find the problem. I am now waiting to see what the outcome is going to be.

I waited months for this car... First, it had to be ordered, and the color I wanted wasn't available with a sunroof so I had to choose a different color entirely. Then it had to be made and shipped, then it got stuck at the port and when it finally arrived I was so excited! But... then came the downside to it. The lights that go with the interior music/sound are fun, but they are only in the front which can not only be distracting for the driver but is no fun for anyone sitting in the back seat. The car doesn't have dual climate control but has heated front seats which are a nice touch. It comes with the Kia Access app which is super helpful not just with the remote start, but the other features such as gas indicator, door locks, etc.; However, after leaving the dealership with my car a few days later I learned that this app is free for the first year only and I feel rather annoyed this isn't included with the cost of the car, especially when the dealership added an extra $2k+ "dealership" fee. I don't drive too often and have put less than 3500 miles on it. I have only taken it on one major drive, 140mi each way. On the way to my destination, about 10 minutes before arriving, my check engine light came on. The code pulled was P226100, and as soon as I got to my destination I called the Kia dealership to schedule an appointment. The soonest they had was over a month away, someone was supposed to call me but no one did. I called back a few days later and am told if the check engine light isn't blinking it is safe to keep driving. Yesterday, the light is off and the code doesn't show in the history on the Kia app. The acceleration on this car is sluggish and unless you have a lead foot, you'll have to get used to slowly accelerating. The wireless charging pad is VERY finicky and you have to place the phone just so in order to get it to charge. In addition, at least with my iPhone, if I want to connect it to the car, I have to plug it into the USB and do a direct connection. The seats in the back are also a bit thin, so fitting a car seat or booster in them has to be placed on a side seat or you won't be able to have any passengers able to fit comfortably in the back seat as well, thus lowering the overall safety for that child. Overall, I am really disappointed in what I thought was going to be the best car. I waited so long for this car, even made some concessions on what I really wanted just to be let down in the end by lackluster "extras" and an underwhelming performance followed up by an error code within the first 4k miles. I only hope this is not the start of a terrible relationship with this car.

I leased a 2022 Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD on June 10, 2022. On day 6 I experienced an instrument cluster fault. Very strange. When I engaged the navigation the entire dashboard began to turn on and off. Empty on the fuel gauge, zero on the speedometer and tachometer. I brought it in and after almost 3 weeks I have no definitive date as to when the ordered part, mew instrument cluster, will even be shipped from South Korea, much less arrive. I absolutely love this vehicle, well, a little small maybe, but a real compact beauty of an SUV... great settling... and it's a got a nice kick for such a small engine. Anyways, hoping this gets fixed asap but I heard from a mechanic that this is a known problem that has something to do with humidity getting into the cluster module. July 22,... still no word. ☹️

I have been looking into the small SUV segment for years. As soon as the Kia Seltos arrived on the market, I knew it would be the one for me. It's small but handsome and it is good on gas so far. Coming from a 2007 Honda Accord with 160k miles on it, it feels like driving a cloud. I love that it has all the right tech features that I wanted with wireless carplay. This is the main reason I didn't settle for the 2022 model.

I purchased a 2023 Kia Seltos SX and It is a great vehicle overall. The 7 Speed DCT is just flat out awful and they need to put the tuned version of the of the 1.6T as the 175 HP version sometimes lacks power and has wicked turbo lag. The sound quality on the Bose audio could also be better. An adjustable passenger seat would also be nice.

Overall, the Seltos is a great car, especially as an around town vehicle. I’m averaging 32+ around town. On the highway, I have averaged 42+mpg! If I were to buy again, I would opt for the SX or higher, simply to have more features. . I have the S all wheel drive. The one thing that irritates me is the manual driver seat. Guess, I’m spoiled having had power seats. The rear view mirror sits a little low and can create a blind spot. But if I lower the seat, it’s not a problem. This is a great vehicle for the price. The car has been great around town. Again, if I were to get another one, I would go to the EX. Just more bells and whistles.

Bought the S 2022 for my daughter. We all liked the design and the price was right. She loves it and so do I. I’m bigger but am very comfortable in this car. Backseat could be a hair more comfy, but I won’t be riding back there often. I’m so impressed with this vehicle I will be buying another one when we need to replace our company sales vehicle. They are hard to get right now, bought ours while it was on the delivery truck at the dealer. At 4000 miles, no issues.

So far I am enjoying my Seltos SX. It is pretty speedy so be careful how fast you can easily go. The touch screen is easy to use once you get the hang of it and gas mileage isn’t bad. My model came with lots of features and Kia’s have great warranty’s. The seat material is very interesting but a little hard to describe. I do feel like it will last and is easy to take care of. I feel the Seltos is fairly fun to drive and has a good entertainment system. A good fit for garaging. Take a test drive and see what you think.

I bought my seltos 2022 2 month ago and was completely fine , up until I started hearing noise from my passenger sear not sure if the seat it self or just wiring it’s like ticking and it come and goes , also when I close my door I also hear noise coming from back , took it to Kia dealership and said there is nothing wrong with it , regarding features not bad comparing to other brands in the market

Pros: 1 This car is very up-to-date with interior tech. It cane with some standard safety features and wireless apple carplay. 2. It was VERY roomy, I could fit so many work equipment or Costco family groceries for a whole month's worth. 3.The MPG is actually higher than what the specs specified. Cons: 1. It handles SO POORLY! I can't take a small curve at more than 20mph. People behind me would get upset. 2. The car can only handle around 800lbs of weight inside the car. We were around 4 people in car once and the car struggled to accelerate. 3. Maintenance is hard to do by yourself. I hate the oil dipstick. It is not making it clear how much oil is in the car. 4. Less than 10000 miles and the car sounded like an old diesel engine. Apparently its not a reliable engine. You can see the poor built quality under the hood. Conclusion: This car is decent in the city and its driving style. If you plan on driving on highways and country roads often, this is not the car. Its not a comfortable or practical ride for longer distances. I traded it for a Subaru Forester!

Looking to replace our Sante Fe with something a little bit smaller. Dealer suggested a Seltos, compared it to a Hyundai Tucson. Not even close. Very tiny, narrow, and underpowered. We test-drove a turbo. Not for us.

This vehicle is amazing! A great value for all the options and features it has. Drives smoothly. The features are truly unbelievable for such a fairly priced vehicle. After a good six months, the only downside we've really found is that the battery is not built for extreme cold and even on a brand new car, will not function in extreme cold.

Handles well and is a good value. The only negative is that the "top of the line" model purchased doesn't have memory seats. There seems to be multiple versions of the technology system. As I purchased an SX model, I incorrectly assumed it would have all the features of the top system.
