I just bought a 2012 liberty trail model, 6 cyl. Repairs immediately upon purchase? The heater had to be back-washed to operate ok. Now the engine light is on. I am told it needs a smoke test to figure out if this will be a small repair or a big one. Did I purchase a lemon? Or hopefully the repair will be at a minimum costs. Or are these repairs indicating that I bought a lemon?

DEFECTIVE JEEP COVER UP OF FRAUD/LYING CHEATING

2012 Jeep Liberty Limited Jet 4dr SUV (3.7L 6cyl 4A)

I have owned many vehicles for my life, in 2012 I bought a New Jeep Jet Liberty Limited within the first year i had to return for recalls, then it has leaks, transmission issues, breaking issues, stalling issues, acceleration issues, Misfires,Differential pinon leaks, seat coil metal springs pop up injuring passengers and this is in the first two years, then i get a MAX LIFE TIME FCA-MOPAR warranty the dealership lies charges MOPAR and me for defective parts, used parts lying to us both. I would no longer ever BUY any JEEP Products ever, then MOPAR informs me the JEEP is a " Defective Model Year" and that the repairs done thus far have costed MOPAR more than the Jeep is even worth. I had done business with the local JEEP, DODGE, RAM, CHRYSLER for nearly 15 years. They told me since Jeeps are indeed defective they will no longer service any. DO NOT BUY ANY JEEP

Least reliable car I ever owned

At 50k miles, within 1.5 years, the following problems occurred, all about 3 months apart: failed serpentine belt, failed water pump causing engine overheating and warped cylinder heads (major repair, had to replace head gaskets and all seals/thermostats, a $5500+ repair), had to replace AC condensor and blend door actuator, radiator needed replacement, control arm needed replacement, leaking transfer case needed replacement, leaking engine oil pan, clutch fan failure, AC fan failure, had to get 2 sets of brand new tires in 5 years of ownership due to alignment issues. This car was a LEMON, never seen anything like it. Luckily had an extended warranty that covered over 10k in repairs, I sold the car right before the warranty was up. Liked the car's interior (I had leatherette seats) and GPS system, it was a nice car but had WAY too many problems. Perhaps partially due to a minor/moderate front end collision with a mailbox that occurred before I bought the vehicle, but I never had so many problems with a car after having regular service and oil changes all done at dealership, and at relatively low mileage. There was a reason this was the last year Jeep made the liberty!

Good, lotsa “thank god I have a warranty” repairs

I bought my 2012 Liberty Sport new in October 2012. This is after the last one had rolled off the assembly line. It had been on the dealer’s lot for 4-5 months, and had only been test driven once, so it had 9 miles when I bought it. The dealer had ordered it with upgraded “trim” so it had factory tow package, moon roof, leather seats, and 18” alloy wheels. So it is mostly a Limited with a Sport nameplate. At the time of purchase, I bought a Chrysler Unlimited mileage warranty for about $2250. It is good that I did. Each covered repair costs me a $100 deductible (plus tax—this is Utah). I’ve had the heater core replaced twice—the second time required about four trips before they got it figured out (only one deductible, however); #1 valve spring broke, causing me to limp 60 miles from near the North Rim of Grand Canyon into Kanab, UT, and then tow it to my dealer 250 miles (I now have AAA). Then, the hinges on the rear glass “flip gate” rusted out. $80 each, so the deductible saved me a bit. Most recently, the head gasket blew out. Again, only $100 deductible. The overall cost of the repairs has been far more than the cost of the warranty. This has been my daily driver since it was new. In 2013, I bought a Casita fiberglass trailer (17’), and have towed it using an Andersen WDH. We get varying amounts of snow here in northeastern Utah, storms bring from 4” to 15”. The first four sets of tires lasted only 25K miles or less. The most recent sets have lasted about 50K miles. Gas mileage has improved from 19 mpg to about 21 since the head gasket repair. The Jeep now has 219,000 miles. It is still my daily driver, but I now tow with a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport.
