6-week review

I purchased a Jeep Liberty about six weeks ago for daily commuting, hauling stuff, and off-road vacations. It drives heavy for a vehicle of its size, which makes it feel really substantial and safe. It is small and nimble. On-road the engine has adequate power and the suspension has good sway control for a vehicle of its mass, so you can still confidently throw it into some corners and tear around as long as you don’t over do it. The Liberty is a total blast to drive off-road. Its four-wheel- drive system is vastly superior to that of the car- based crossover SUVs like the Rav4, CRV, Pilot, Highlander, Escape, Tribute, etc. This vehicle is perfect for my lifestyle.

I have experienced a 50mph shudder which we believe is a flaw in the design of the torque converter, since day 1. DC has finally admitted to me that they know about the problem but can do NOTHING for it. So there, I'm STUCK with a vehicle that has problems that I can't fix and will have trouble selling. The worst part is that I LOVE this thing! I just want it to run right. Strongly considering a trade to the new 4-door 2007 Wrangler with the 6 speed manual.

We plan to tow this Jeep with a 36 foot diesel motor home. Have been towing a Chevy Tracker 1999 model. Looking forward to enjoying comfort, reliability and appearance of our new 2005 Jeep.

I purchased this Jeep liberty CRD new. Just after I got it they had a recall for the front wheel bearings and the torque converter and transmission front pump. Both were replaced under warranty. The next thing to go bad was the EGR valve which went bad after 35,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. At about 45,000 miles I started having problems with the boost pressure sensor getting loaded up with carbon. I cleaned this and reinstalled and would go bad over and over. the EGR air flow control went bad, known to every one else as a throttle body. NOT covered under warranty. Last thing the fuel filter mount required to be replaced by Chrysler but will not pay or it. Good riddance Chrysler

I love my Limited Liberty so much i bought out my lease from a 2002. It got me through tough driving conditions through Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Many trips hauling plywood and heavy material on the roof. Easy access to taking things off roof. High enough off the ground to keep water out of doors through our disaster. Able to go over broken tree limbs in the street without hurting the undercarriage. Headroom roomy enough for 5 tall adults. Fits in single car garage with lots of room to spare due to it length and width. Sunroof operates easily for driving. Location of all dash instruments at driver's finger tips. Stereo volume controls on steering wheel so you never have to look off the road. Phonecharger.
