I Love My Jeep So Far!

I have only had my Jeep for a little less than a month, but I am enjoying it a lot. It only has 20,000 miles and it's a V6 AWD, and that has plenty of power as far as I am concerned. I am getting about 16 mpg, and that is way better than our Suburban (what I was driving) and as good or better than many mid-size SUVs, such as Explorers. I love the way the Jeep drives, I drove an '06 BMW X5 before and I think the Jeep drives just as great!!!! I would definitely recommend a used one if you can find a good deal, mine was only $14900, that is way better than buying a new one! As for being an 18 y-o with his first car, I feel very save in it, especially with all those airbags.

So i just bought a 06 Commander used. Its the 3.7L. I love it, except for the gas mileage. My co-worker has the 4.7L and gets better gas mileage. I think part of the reason is because it takes a lot less effort for the V8 to move the vehicle then it does he V6. If i could buy again I would get the V8. Otherwise, I love it

During our first month of ownership we drove our Commander across the country. We drove from Washington, DC to Yellowstone Park. The Commander gave us a great ride with poor gas milage even on the highway and the gas tank is too small for the Jeep. You can't get 300 miles out of the small tank. We averaged over 8 hours a day driving time and didn't feel the fatiuge that we have with other cars on this typa of trip. Over all we like the Commander and that is why we purchsed a second one.

Except for the gas mileage, I'm totally in love with my Commander. It handles great in any condition, and it just feels like a luxurious vehicle on the inside. I love the way it looks on the outside...not cutesy or overly "tough" like the Hummers. I did have to take it in twice already, though. First was to fix the whistling noise, it was a something about the seal of the front windshield, and was done for free, and the back windshield wiper broke because of a cheap plastic part. Be careful with the back wiper...it breaks easily if you pull it out to change the blade like any other wiper. Overall, I love my Jeep, but if gas keeps going up I may have to get a cheap fuel efficient car.

I have the base model '06 Commander with the little V6. It's my first Jeep SUV and I use it primarily for business which involves regional daily travel carrying sales material. I maintain it regularly and all systems seem to run flawlessly. The Tip-Tronic tranny works fine, however I do have to shift it manually on hills to get the most out of the V6. Mileage isn't bad for such a heavy vehicle, and the thing turns on a dime and has tight handling. The interior ergonomics are great for business with lots of storage up front. My first real snow adventures sold me on this thing's capabilities. The backup sensors and turning radius allow me to slip this SUV into most parking spots easily.

This SUV is vastly under rated. The ride is extremely smooth and the performance of the 4.7 V8 is perfect for this SUV. Jeep has done a superb job with the finish and quality. I like the heavy duty look of the interior and the location of the controls especially the location of the emergency brake lever. I also own a Honda Pilot and this SUV is actually a step above the Pilot in overall driving capabilities. It's about time Daimler Chrysler listens to what people want in a midsize SUV. By the way the third seat, although not really suited for large adults on long trips, is perfect for that emergency situation when an extra person or two arrive on the scene. Overall this SUV is great!

My wife and I just bought a 2006 Commander LTD. We love it. It rides and handles like a dream. The interior is great and the outside still has the rugged Jeep look. There are only 2 downside to the Commander. First of all, it's a gas guzzler. But, what large SUV isn't? Second of all, the 3rd row seat is a waste. Luckily it doesn't really affect us because we just keep it folded down all the time. Overall, this is a great vehicle. We love it!

Great 4WD - Interior Needs Attention

Just purchased. In first 1,000 miles back seat sun roof covers create annoying - loud rattle that will require the dealer to remove interior roof cover and repair shade roller - or remove all together. For price tag on Limited, it would be nice if interior materials were a lot less "Durango" plastic and more high end SUV. Although mileage really stinks - it does the job as 4WD (no one should be taken back by 15 miles to the gallon, it is a bug truck after all). Overall I am pleased with this as a replacement to my Grand Cherokee Ltd - It is no replacement for the 740i.

Overall the Commander is an eye catcher. I love how it drives, but unfortunately the windshield is very weak. I replaced it twice in the past 2 months. Is not a good sign when a "Trail rated" vehicle cant take a hit from small debris. It can sustain direct hits from road hazards as long as its not hit on the edges of the glass. I would like to know how the Hummers windshield performs when it comes to road hazards.

After owning two Grand Cherokees, and a Cherokee Classic in the past, the new 2006 Jeep Commander is by far the most exciting to drive, and to look at. Even with sub par fuel economy, the Commander drives and feels like a dream. I strongly recommend getting the Hemi 5.7L V8, as it actually gets better gas mileage than the 4.7L V8 because of the MDS Engine Technology. Strongly recommended!

Love the vehicle (4.7L), the trips to the service department, not so much. 6 trips for "service 4wd system". Finally fixed by replacing internal switch in transfer case. Occasional horrible noise from driveshaft, cause yet TBD. Windows have a mind of their own and occasionally reverse directions in auto up/down. Slow engagement of tranny in reverse after sitting overnight, sometimes creating a loud screech. Significant vibration from an unknown source when turning from a stop. Has stalled several times while backing from parking place. Hopefully, all the kinks can be worked out. Plus side, Jeep finally did something with the Headlights on their vehicles, these babies light up the night!

Purchased this SUV brand new for our growing family. Within weeks the windshield started whistling during highway driving. Vehicle stalled while driving on the highway and turning corners. Talk about scary ! Dealership replaced windshield to fix the whistle, however they could not figure out the problem with the engine stalling. Reported this issue to NTSB. Stylish however unreliable so I traded it in for a Toyota SUV. Buyer Beware.

Let me cut to the chase. This is the second Jeep vehicle I have owned in 35 years of driving. Since 1989, all my second vehicles have been 4x4's. By far this is the best vehicle ever. I had ordered it with every conceivable option available. Nothing left to the imagination. After owning it for 6 months, I still haven't got tired of driving it. One really, really bad feature of the "mark", is its fuel economy. Don't believe what the specs say. If you get 12MPH for city driving consider yourself lucky. I tried every which way to drive this Jeep, for the best economy. Nothing helps! Maybe it's because I have the 5.7 Hemi? But, forget if you think you will break the 15MPG for city driving.

Some include the hemi, 3 sunroofs, Sirius, heated seats, leather, nav,...honestly I could go on for a long time. It has more available features than any other suv we test drove All and all, it's a great strong Jeep that my husband and I both enjoy.

We have had to take our Commander back for the following reasons; 1. Check Engine light....a hose had a split in it with only 1000 miles on it. 2. We had a loud whistle coming from the dash area; it was a bad seal on the windshield. 500 miles on it. 3. We are now having a problem with the passenger window not going up and down correctly...stops half way up and goes back down unless you keep your finger on the switch. 4. We have a slight dimple in the door protruding out from the metal. Dealer says they can fix it but may not be able to match up paint..

I bought the 4x4 Commander. It is strong, sturdy and doesn't whimper off road. Cargo space is fantastic and the seats fold down flat. Nice sound system and back up buddy on base models. I had the Lojack early warning put in since we are close to the border. I did not like that Lojack could not add their audible alarm system and it would have to be Jeep's.

This Commander is the 4th Jeep I've owned, and the best! It already gets better gas mileage than the 03 GC I traded with the the big 4.0L HO engine. The Hemi takes a bit getting used to, but in the snow she shines! I splurged on the lifetime warranty and intend to keep her for a long long time! The only thing I wish she had is a remote start. I drive 30 miles round trip to work, and this suv makes that drive a pleasure. With that said, she's really built for the open road, and trips to snow country are great too. I don't even feel my boat when I'm pulling it behind my Commander! This car is a keeper! Well done!

Purchased Commander 2 weeks ago. The suv handles impressively, is quiet inside and is void of any rattles. The steering is quick & direct with good feedback. The 4.7L is strong off the line & through the rev range. Brakes are average but progressive. The vehicle feels planted around corners, even at speed, with the steering wheel returning to center easily. There is some bounce at higher speeds over washboard surfaces, but composure is not compromised. Front seats are firm but comfortable, the third row seats have been folded flat 80% of the time so far but the kids are happy there anytime. Styling is a nice mix of old-new Jeep with a touch of Mercedes-Benz G-class added. No bland looks here! I like it!

I like the SUV experience and this is a luxury liner for the SUV. Handling is impressive. The Commander's style and class can't be compared to anything less expensive than the Land Rover and compared to the Land Rover the Commander's ride and the driving experience is much better. Although the limited cargo space has been bothersome from time to time, I wouldn't want the vehicle's length extended so the trade-off is okay. The stereo display unit could be improved. I should have purchased a 4.7 instead of the 5.7 if Hemi is available with 4.7.

We live at nearly 10,000 feet and find the Quadratrack ll to have excellent traction and the 5.7 hemi to have all the necessary power for the mountains we have to climb. We tow this behind our motor home and it makes a trouble free tow vehicle with no modifications necessary to tow. We really like the gps system and the theater seating with the dvd player.

I purchased a Commander recently and after test driving the new Grand Cherokee, I was convinced. The Commander takes curves and turns better, looks better, is bigger but not too much bigger; in short, it's just better. It's basically the same price and for a few dollars more, you get the added comfort. I love it, and getting the luxury package is the same as getting the Limited, so you might as well save some money and get the luxury package.

This is my second Jeep product. The last Jeep was a Grand Limited with the 4.7L V8. I needed more room and was looking at the Chevy Suburban and the Ford Expedition. After looking at the Jeep Commander I was totally impressed with the fit and finish of the product. Although not as large as the other two vehicles it had all of the room that I was looking for. This Jeep has a ride, comfort and limited road noise that would rival a premier car. The amenities were so numerous that I fully didn't realize all of them until after I had purchased the vehicle. Although the gas mileage stinks and I wish it was better, this is expected with a vehicle of this type.

Had a 97 Pathfinder w/ 197K on it & considered another (but noisy ride) & 4Runner (expensive & tight). Loved the Commander look but was hesitant due to reliability concerns. Too early to know if I made a mistake, but purchased the 100k warranty just in case. I have friends who have Jeeps with 200K. My sisters Honda Odyssey is in the shop all the time. Sometimes you just get a bad one. So far the ride is plush & surprisingly quiet relative to Pathfinder/4Runner. Got $10K off sticker on an '06 model. Worth the money given the '07 is not different. Wife was not a big fan of the boxy look but has definitely grown to appreciate its look and features.

We wanted 4WD or AWD, roomy 3rd row, rear AC, styling, and safety. The Commander outperformed all other 3rd row mid-size SUV's in every category. The V8 is bad on gas mileage, but will allow you to pass, merge, and climb up hills with ease. I classify this as a safety feature. Our old car did not have good passing capability and every car I passed on a 2 lane I had white knuckles. Have you ever tried merging onto a major interstate in a prius? I also consider having a capable 4WD system a safety feature. I've experienced 3-4 feet of blowing snow blizzards in Colorado, and having the commander ready to blast through it all puts me and my growing family at ease.

This truck is not what I think they were selling, an upscale SUV with 3rd row seating. First, the 3rd row seating is pretty much useless. If you have the seats up, there is zero storage behind the 3rd row and only slightly more space for your legs in the seat. I think I had my seats up about 3 times in 3 years for emergency kid transport. Not good for the long haul. Second, this thing is a truck; it rides like one, handles like one and goes like one. I have driven Tahoes and Explorers that are soooo much more comfortable to ride in and handle so much better. My CDR always felt top heavy. All that said, it has been a dependable vehicle with 4WD that worked well in the snow. It looks nice.

This car looks cool is fun to ride and everything would be great but ... it has died on us while driving 5 times! I know of two other people this has happened to with this car. Chrysler even is giving us a new car due to the fact it has been in the shop for so long. They are not admitting anything that is wrong. I can see some kind of recall happening soon...go elsewhere!

I just picked up my loaded Jeep Commander. So, far I love this truck. Love the styling and features. This is my second Jeep. The first one was great. I hope this one is as well.
