Most Reliable I've owned
I bought my '92 Jeep Cherokee Laredo in March of '94 with just less than 50,000 miles on it based on reviews at that time. It's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. I now have over 230,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only major work I've had done is to the airconditioner last year when it went out. It does leak oil (leak, NOT burn) but the engine continues to work great. Each year in our state emissions tests, it continues to pass as if it were new. I hate to think about having to eventually get a new one as I'm wary of whether more recent models will be as reliable.
My favorite
Even though I have a new (2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport fully loaded) Jeep sitting in the driveway, the 1992 Laredo is sitting in the Garage. It's pretty much my baby, it's a manual transmission but that just adds to the fun of driving it. The worst mistake I made was expecting the same quality in the newer model! This one is far superior to the newer model. It does have the telltale oil leak, but never even enough to make a difference on the dipstick! It's still in excellent condition and runs like a dream. I may give the new Jeep to the teenagers and keep the old one for myself.
The Gold Rimed Jeep
This car has a lot of miles on it and it has lasted through three teenage drivers. Good condition for being 10 years old.
Bulletproof '92 Cherokee Laredo 4.0l
I drive vehicles fast and hard. My '92 Cherokee is no exception. Since buying it used 11 years ago with 62,000 miles, I've replaced the A/C compressor, oil pan (drain plug was cross-threaded and retapped, found this out at first oil change), and clutch twice, and the HVAC blower motor, and starter. Everything else routine maintenance. I've driven places Humvee owners would fear to tread (the real H1s). This vehicle is outstanding performance wise. 0-60 in 9 seconds and that's how I drive it. I'd buy another one, but I don't think I'll ever have to, it just won't quit!
Won't quit!
Bought with 111,000 miles on it in 2002. Little did the owner know that it was just broken in! 4-liter engine is extremely reliable, except for an oil leak and some oil blow-back to the air filter. I like selectable 4WD to keep gas mileage up when it's not needed. Just took it camping in Vermont in 2009 with 233K miles on it, 4 kayaks on top and a 2x5 foot basket hanging on the back. Air shocks in the rear really helped.
