Absolutely Amazing Car for the money..

I have a black limited with black leather, I researched every brand, BMW, Honda, Toyota, Kia, Lexus, Infinity, Mazda etc. This car has more tech than I could ever dream of for the price I paid. I actually said to dealers of high end luxury cars "Ok, so what can your $50, 60, 80, 100k car do that is so amazing?" I would put this car up against any luxury car and for the price and fuel mileage, and warranty, I wouldn't take anything else. (now it is SLOW compared to a V8 Mercedes or BMW, but that car is NOT going to get 45-51 MPG. I love it, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Battery goes into deep sleep

Bryan, 09/04/2022

I loved this car at first. We parked at the airport for long term and by the fifth day I could no longer communicate using Bluelink. I contacted Hyundai. They told me that Bluelink was suspended because the battery went into a deep sleep automatically after sitting for a few days. I was told by Hyundai support that I would need to have it serviced each time it sits for a few days. This is happening to other owners of the same car. For us, when we arrived back at the airport, two weeks, our key fobs would not work. The car was dead. We had to manually unlock it which required disassembling the door handle. Tried to start it, no response. The battery had to be jumped. Hyundai is refusing to discuss this with me and offer a fix. On a Facebook forum, other new owners are having the same issue and are in the process of arbitration with the lemon law process in their state, as Hyundai has admitted that they designed it that way. For another owner on the forum their battery could not be jump started and they had to get car towed to dealer. My car only has 6000 miles and it is broken, other new owners are experiencing the same according to the Facebook forum. This is with a solar roof which should keep a trickle charge to keep battery from going into deep sleep.

Great to drive fantastic fuel mileage

Only had this vehicle for 2 weeks and purchased it because of its safety reviews and many safety features. I traded from a Jeep Renegade to this and this handles the road better than the Jeep. The issue I'm having is poor customer service from Hyundai and from the dealership. There's a noise that comes on at around 50mph plus my wife says it's from the front left-hand side I'm hearing it from there as well as from the rear. The other issue is with Blue Link, Hyundai does not seem able to assist or maybe they are overwhelmed, also the dealership is unable to assist as they say it's too new and they don't know enough in order to assist. The dealership is Weisner in Conroe Texas, they appear to be very disorganized and not interested in any form of Customer Service.

Disappointed - 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited

Bob Brady Decatur Costumer, 04/26/2023
2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid 6A)
21 of 21 people found this review helpful

I purchased a brand-new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited in January 2023 at Bob Brady Hyundai in Decatur IL. I will start my review by thanking Kyle Costello for his excellent customer service, knowledge of the inner working of the vehicles, and just for being a genuine person who is just as interested in helping you with your new car experience as he is with "selling" you a car. Unfortunately, that is where my positive comments end. My experience did not begin with Kyle and was with a different salesperson who was pushy, did not disclose all the many add-ons and the cost added to the vehicle purchase until I was literally sitting in front of the financing guy with documents pushed in my face to sign (and yes I kept asking for a breakdown of the price), and he has had a very condescending attitude towards me since I purchased the vehicle and particularly when I asked for help communicating with the maintenance department about the car’s electrical issues. I purchased a brand-new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited in January 2023. This is a beautiful car with more features than I will probably ever use! However, there are issues with the onboard displays and air conditioning that could be related to electrical issues or a software defect. I have been so disappointed having just paid over $40,000 for this 2023 Hyundai Sonata. This was my very first new car! I was so excited. The maintenance department have tried to diagnose the issue and did establish there was indeed a problem that is "beginning to show up in other vehicles" as well. The car was taken for over a week for repairs. After retrieving the vehicle, the very same problems consisted including onboard drivers displays reverting back to initial factory settings, resetting meters and indicators for fuel, mileage, and economy, the air conditioning also turns off and resets among other issues. On an almost daily basis I have to go in a reprogram the displays to show the correct information and I have lost any information stored for fuel, mileage, and fuel economy. My greatest disappointment is how I have been treated as a customer after purchasing the vehicle. I feel very much like now that they have my money, I am not a priority and there has been little to no communication from the maintenance department with any updates or communications from the Hyundai engineers. I understand that things like this can take time, but I have gone weeks without even a courtesy update on the status of my vehicle. I believe if I stopped calling the maintenance department, they would never bother to contact me and would just wait for me to go away.

I like the car and the way it handles, but I only had the car for 6 days/372 Miles when the moonroof exploded while I was driving. Got the extended warranty and the dealer said the roof isn't covered. It was suppose to be bumper to bumper 10 year/ 100000 mile My insurance says this happens to Hyundais. I will not have the car drivable for months. Beside being scared to death I have no car. I have since found out this has been happening since 2014 to all models with this roof and no recall has been issued, nothing in the papers or on the news. The dealer says it's up tp my insurance to pay for and fix, after only 6 days. NOT GOOD, Hyundai!!

This is a great car with all the bells and whistles. I have a limited edition and has great technology that is pretty easy to use. The ride is really smooth and the performance is outstanding. And, it looks good while also being stingy on the gas. I'm currently getting over 45mpg and it's still going up. I did have to learn to drive it somewhat assertively to ensure the battery continues to charge and you get the best fuel economy. I started driving it VERY conservatively thinking that would promote higher mpg but it didn't. I've only had the 2 months so I'm still getting used to everything but I love it thus far. I had a 2017 Sonata Hybrid Limited prior to this car and it was so dependable.

fiberboard panels under car come loose twice

This is our 5th hyundai and we are happy with the fuel mileage however we were entering a local business and the underside of the vehicle scraped the ground. as we were leaving we could hear something rubbing on the ground, it turns out that they underside of this vehicle has several fiberboard panels held on by cheap clips and if you rub on a speedbump or driveway they can pull loose (common problem per dealer service department. hyundai will not cover these on warranty and replacement cost for one is approximately $550.00. we have never had a problem like this on our 2013 sonata hybrid. these panels will not last and will need replacing. who puts a fiberboard on the bottom of a car. dealers do not have these panels in stock and when they rub on the ground could possibly cause a fire.

I've had my 2021 Sonata Hybrid for 4 months now. Styling is a subjective issue so I won't dwell on that but I do prefer the front end treatment on the Hybrid Model over all the other 2021 Sonatas. The interior is beautiful and a wonderful place to spend time. Handling is spectacular BUT I personally would gladly trade off a couple notches of handling prowess for a couple notches of improvement in ride quality. This firm ride is more apparent at low speeds than on the highway. The technology and driver safety equipment is pretty remarkable with a couple caveats. Why have "Manual Gear Selection Capability" at all if the vehicle insists on reverting back to DRIVE within 10 seconds of selecting a specific gear. Not much good for using engine braking when driving in mountainous terrain. The fuel economy is actually pretty outstanding for a vehicle of this size BUT nowhere near as good as what the onboard "Guess-O-Meter" display would have you believe. It is as much as >15% optimistic compared to Real World Calculations. I keep all fuel receipts in a spreadsheet so I KNOW exactly what the vehicle actually delivers. EPA numbers have not yet been met BUT it has all been winter driving with snow tires so far so I'll wait to see how it all pans out over a full year. The Solar Roof is an interesting gimmick but it certainly points out the benefit of having solar cells pointing at/tracking the sun's position in the sky. The onboard display has certainly demonstrated that Spring is indeed on it's way. Yeah!

Delicate Front Bumper Structure

Mark, 05/12/2021
2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid 6A)
31 of 37 people found this review helpful

While otherwise a good car the facia attached adjacent to underneath the front bumper structure is prone to detachment during normal driving. When it partially detaches the car makes a loud scraping noise that makes it difficult to drive. I do not off road or otherwise drive abnormally and at less than 7,000 miles this part detached. I have never had that happen to any car I have driven in the past including Audis, Infiniti and a Toyota Supra (which I did drive somewhat aggressively as its a sports car). The dealer of course tries to blame me yet has no answer when I say it has never happened before. This is a weakness in the design of the Sonata Hybrid and will cost you up to $800 to repair if it happens to you. They refuse to cover it under warranty. The car is otherwise great but I can only give it two stars due to this problem. I cannot recommend the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

This is my 2nd Hyundai Hybrid, my last t One being the Hyundai Ionic. Both are great cars. I've owned the 2020 Sonata three weeks now. I'm very happy with this car. It rides well, and is comfortable and fun to drive. I have the Limited, which gives you all the bells and whistles. I'm getting 55 plus with combo city and highway driving. It has all the power I need. Not sure what the Solar panels do, but they are a good conversation item. All in all I really like this car. It is fun, efficient, and reasonably priced for what you get. Why the extra 1 mpg for the base SE ?

The base SE model is the only one with the "Off/On" intermittent engine cutoff. Presumably Hyundai put that option on there so they could claim the extra 1 mpg for CAFE goals.

Front seats aren't comfortable, hard as a rock!

Sonata Hybrid Limited gets high marks for features provided. Heads up display is fantastic as is mileage. Seats are very firm and so is suspension. There are many variations you can select for dash display and info panel but nothing you select stays. Computer resets what you select to what is likes. This is really frustrating. Sometimes it will wait until the next day to reset, other times it resets when you turn off engine. Car is white with light grey interior but heat build-up is the most of any other car I have ever owned. I was able to reduce heat load by adding ceramic tint to windows and sun roof. With Hyundai software added to phone my car sends several text a day to let me know doors are unlocked. (car is in locked garage, so why lock it! Passenger seat isn't adjustable for height also lacks lumbar adjustment. My wife put an cushion in her seat to raise sitting height and soften hard seat but that turned off her air bag. High marks for mileage but seats are really terrible and constant dash changes are just annoying. Overall this wasn't a good purchase for us.

The Limited edition of the Sonata Hybrid provides many luxury features (heated and cooling seats, wheel trim, driver assist systems, etc.) at a more reasonable price. However, it may take a while to configure the various settings to your personal preference, but the results are worth it. Additionally, the infotainment system is better designed than that of many other car manufacturers!

Just drove this Sonata Hybrid for two days in both city and highway and it was a great ride! I have the Limited version with all the technology and that puts driving in another higher class. When I had to pass she had lots of acceleration she can get up and go! Plus Great MPG I got 48 MPG.The style both inside and out is eye catching and classy! It has been a long time since I walked away from a car and turned around to admire i😁

Had the car for 5 months now and it gets compliments! Lots of tech integration. Using adaptive cruise control is awesome in LA traffic… so convenient and comfortable. Get the Limited. It’s worth the bells and whistles. I recommended smart mode when driving as well. Keeps it green when needed but doesn’t hold back when accelerating. Lots of features and really nice ride.

I have had my 2022 Sonata Limited Hybrid for almost 2 years. I love the car, I got 54 mpg on the last tankful, actual mileage (the computer said I got 59 but it is always off 4 -5 mpg), So many safety features included which are extra cost on most other even luxury vehicles. It drives nice, good handling. I get 44-47 in cold weather (IL) but 51-55 the rest of the time. The solar panel on the top really improves gas mileage. With a full charge I get 65-85 mpg on short trips of 15 miles or less. The generator also works while you are driving the car which most vehicles do not have. Very well made.

I have had this Hybrid Limited car (bought brand new) for about 5 months now and have over 8.000 miles. I have experienced great mileage ( i am not a person that accelerates hard or slam my brakes), so i have got an average of 46.9 MPG. One issue i have is that the car sometimes takes too long to drop into a higher gear on its own. it also does not go into the EV mode as easily as when it was newer. When i am coasting, it takes a while to go into EV mode. Overall, a great car. I have not used all the features (too many to list), but I use all the ones that I need to use. I will wait for a few more months to see how things work out before i can say for sure if the decision I made was sound. UPDATE: It has now been almost 1.5 years since i have had this car. I have still been very happy with it. Gas Mileage. Fortunately, i have had no problems with the car, and other than oil changes and a blown tire (not Hyundai's fault) i have not needed to take the car into the dealership. Overall, i still give it a 5-star review. UPDATE May 13, 2025 It's almost 2 years i have owned this car now. The car still runs great. I still give it a 5-star review with almost 31K on the odometer. The mileage is still great. Spring and Fall mileage is way better than Winter 9which is understandable). Since i have owned the car, my average MPG has been recorded at 46.4 MPG. I cannot complain. I have had at least 2 major trips where i have been able to go 600 miles on a gas tank. I am so glad that i bought a Hybrid, and would suggest that to everyone that is concerned about the environment.

I have always had the Hyundai sonata hybrid limited. I could not afford the brand new limited, but it doesn't matter because the SEL has the Bose surround system and all of the amenities. The coolest thing is that it can try to drive and stay between the lines. It's not the greatest but good enough for me if I have to grab something!

What's up with the horrible depreciation?

Purchased this vehicle in Sept. '21 because of a need for better mileage, and the '22 Sonata Hybrid was perfect for that. It has a sporty look, of course, which was not a huge factor for me but others seemed to appreciate. The front air dam sits low and it too easily scrapes bottom when driving uneven surfaces or pulling up to even moderate-height curbs. I purchased the Limited version, which includes the leather seating and all the bells and whistles one would expect. The ride itself is decent. It has a little bit of pickup when you need it, but it is not a "performance" vehicle by any stretch of the imagination. I bought it at a time when supplies were tight, and there was no negotiation on the price - not with any vehicles of any make. What came as a huge shock was when I was considering trading it in on a new vehicle. After 2 years, the vehicle has lost about 40% in value according to the dealer and the usual websites one turns to when researching such things. Yes, I put about 30k miles on it in that time, but really - a 40% drop in value? Other than the miles there is no reason I could fathom that would justify such a rapid fall; and I would warn shoppers to consider this when looking at a Hyundai. They may seem economical up-front, but unless you plan on driving one until it's ready for the scrapyard, it may cost you if you want to upgrade at some point before then.

Hybrids are for younger people

Hybrids or EV's are for younger people not 80 year olds like myself. The solar roof does away with the moon roof. Growing up with mechanical cars makes electric vehicles hard to get used to. A lot of learning but not at this age. The instrument panel gave so much information it was confusing. The test drive was useless, my car feels all the bumps in the road but where you drive the new cars the roads are so smooth even my cay felt good.

I have owned my 2023 Sonata Hybrid (Limited) for 17 months and could not be happier with the purchase. I cannot get over the features, warranty, performance, and level of finish the car offers for the price I paid. I am averaging roughly 45 mpg combined city/highway driving during these past seven months I was looking for a hybrid sedan and, in my opinion, this one is the best price/value combination on the market, hands down. Anyone looking for a new hybrid sedan should strongly consider this vehicle. I would 100% buy it again with no hesitation.

Pros Good gas mileage being a hybrid Android auto in base model The exterior color Hidden trunk button Lane assist Rear air conditioner vent Safety features- lane assist , blind spot warning Cons Not a smooth drive, you feel every little bump Seems to shift hard when accelerating ( may need to take it to hyundai to see if that's normal ) Car doesn't auto lock when you leave behind the car (Honda did that and I loved it) Less space in the trunk and back seat Overall it's ok but I wish there was a return policy. I thought It was a similar ride to the Honda accord hybrid . That car drove move smoother. I should have just spent a few grand more and got a 2024 hybrid Honda accord. It was very spacious in the car and the trunk. Drove very smooth , and even the base model didn't feel base at all. I thought this would be comparable to it, I found a deal on a 2023 model with 3k miles on it. Now I know why someone would sell it that fast.

I purchased my used Sonata a month ago with 14,000 miles on the odometer. I've put around 1000 miles on it and I'm pleased with the car. I paid $24.5K, it's an incredible amount of car for the money. The tech features are amazing and it's very comfortable. It's not fast or particularly sporty, but definitely delivers on the MPG front. I do drive it like a hybrid to attain that mileage, but it's a pretty easy 45-47 mpg, with 50+ at moderate highway speeds or when cruising around secondary roads. This is, of course, during the summer months. The build quality of the car is very good, it feels on par with Honda and Toyota products, both brands that I currently own or have in the past. I've driven the most recent iterations of the Accord and Camry hybrids and agree that this is a step down in driving dynamics, but it's not a slouch and in my opinion the value provided in so many other ways makes up for it. And there was no way I was touching either of those makes with comparable miles and features for anything close to that price. I also have 38 months left on a bumper-to-bumper Hyundai warranty, another factor in my decision. Dislikes? I read many complaints about the push button gear changers and I agree that they are awkward and clunky. I would also anticipate those are a little more driving enthusiastic than me might find it a little slow, but I'm not bothered by the power it produces. And it's almost too techy for me, thankfully my 16-year-old totally embraces playing around with the various features and learning how to use them. I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were an option, it's a very nice car.
