Tired of walking
Little did I know you can’t drive this vehicle in bumper to bumper traffic. The double clutch transmission heats up. The manufacturers solution? Find a safe place to pull over until it cools down. Try that in the mountains of British Columbia. Another suggestion was to wait in traffic with the break on until there are is several vehicle space in front of you, then creep forward. Try that on a four lane highway. As soon as space comes open the cars beside you fill the gap. If you have a trucker behind you, getting paid by the mile, your going to get your facial features adjusted real quick. This car is for town driving only.
KONA LIMITED
So far, it's just what I expected. I checked a lot of reviews, for this category of cars, Edmunds, Car and Driver, Kelley Blue Book. I personally went and saw three cars I had selected. A Kia Seltos, a Subaru Crosstrek, and the Kona. In my opinion. The Crosstrek is a "Glorified" Station Wagon, the Kia Seltos seemed cheap (front seats were hard and uncomfortable) the Kona, seemed just right. We got the Kona Limited because we wanted all wheel drive, and the turbo engine. Owning a classic 1997 Honda Prelude SH, and a 2004 Mazda RX8, we are used to "instant acceleration" and response. I know that's a big challenge to live up to, especially for a small SUV, The Kona did not disappoint.

Fun car, but annoying headlights
My first EV experience. I had a Ford Escape as a rental and a power window got stuck down the first day, so I was lucky to change cars and was excited to try an EV. I remember always admiring Konas. It's a small car and the cargo area was very limited for three people. Car handled well and super fast and responsive with instant torque! Seats were firm and fairly comfortable. 8 way power driver's seat and a height adjustable passenger seat is very much appreciated as many cars don't offer that on any trim-line. On a full charge I got around 260-70 miles. Other than being a car that's too small for my needs, There were only a couple of things that bothered me. Hyundai KIA has a trend of using silver plastic buttons on the dash and console. Not only is it blinding when the sun reflects off it, you CAN NOT read the words on the buttons during the day, because they are backlit by ice blue lighting! But the real issue was the headlamps. I spent time in an area with winding streets and hills. The headlamps are very bright, but they do not spread out... they just cut off, so as you are turning a corner, you don't see anything until the light makes it's way around the curve. And same going uphill... it's just bright light on the bottom and blackness above till the car points up! Someone else mentioned this as well, so it's not just me. OK... and I'm not a big fans of push buttons (or knobs like in the Escape) for the transmission and having to keep looking down to check. Well, anyway, this 2023 Kona is the last year for this generation and as I'm writing this review, the totally new 2024 slightly larger Kona is arriving at dealerships... but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyway.
Full of value and fun to drive!
Bought a 2023 Kona SEL this summer, and very happy with my choice. Looked for a small SUV for more seating, more cargo capability, and better visibility: my now “summer” vehicle remains a 2013 Audi TT convertible. Have been pleasantly surprised by the comfort and performance of the Kona. I’m 6-foot-2, and don’t fit in some cars, but very comfortable driving the Kona. Car has enough pep in the engine and drive train to make driving fun (obviously, not even near the Audi) but who needs to make everything a drag race? But now I can consider more than one passenger, and actually carrying bulky items home from store. The Kona comes standard with so many options (e.g., driver safety features) it’s nice not feeling nickel-and -dimed by the dealer for options. The styling (mine is the red, with black rook and accents) was more interesting than the rather boring styling of the American car makers. Great gas mileage (30 city, 33+ highway). Add in Hyundai free maintenance and exceptional warranty, great value in a small SUV.

Quick & Quite & GOOD GAS Milage
Had a 2019 Kona and loved the Kona but 2 yers after buying it got a recall notice on the engine, took it in and they did some things to the engines CPU and said its good to go, but the engines oil was getting dark quick so was changing oil at 1/2 the miles for required oil change, that helped the gas milage some. I traded it for a 2023 Kona N line and I like it a lot, because its quite and get better gas milage, has a better ride, handles the same is ease to get in and out of, has GPS in the car that I do not need to use my I phone to get it from. am a big guy 6'4" 290+ and have room to spare for this senior, don't have many miles on it so far, and the upgraded engine runs good so far......WNB

Nice little SUV
Wanted to purchase American but, Buick has to many problems, Ford are to expensive, Chevy has issues, Dodge is a disaster. So, went to the auto mall expecting to purchase a Honda, saw the smallest 2023 Mazda and test drove it was nice great interior. When I got out of the Mazda, I said what is that, salesman said a Kona, I said can I test drive it. I was so impressed, and when he told me about the warranty, sold. The base engine has plenty of power for me, all of the safety features and AWD that will lock in with a push of a button. I love everything about this small SUV, gave it a 4 star because there is a blind spot center front windshield. But with all the safety features it lets you know if a car is close to you, front, side, back. The ride for such a small SUV is remarkable, great value.

Good milage. Bumpy ride, not fun to drive.
Good: Gets good milage. Looks nice, mine is lovely bright blue. Has great safety features. Good acceleration. Easy to use controls. Good price. Bad: Driver seat is uncomfortable. Ride seems bumpy. Has good pickup but somehow it is a chore to drive, Maybe I need to turn lane keeper off, seems to make driving more difficult. I feel like I am always making micro adjustment to keep it in the middle of the lane on highways. Small back window. Just not fun even though it has good acceleration. Don`t like the built in GPS either. First time we used the gps it was not accurate and we ended up a few miles from our destination. I use my stand alone Garmin gps instead. Finally we need a software update because you can easily start/steal these cars without a key using the USB port.

DISSAPPOINTING CAR
This car is one of the worst cars I have ever bought! The doors will not shut properly, it is very noisy, because the moldings are too thin and don't provide proper insulation. Water leaks and when you drive on the expressway, it is very noisy. Too expensive for the chear quality it offers. Very disappointing!!!!
Great economy car, poor aftermarket support.
Adequate space for a small car - feels roomy. Very solid construction. Excellent all-wheel drive system. Great fuel economy. Front seats could be more supportive (need better bolsters). Hate the remote start - sometimes has to be tried 3 times before it works. Minimal road noise - excellent sound proofing. Hate the 600 (!!!) Page manual. More a lawyer protection document than a useful tool. Drove the car 5,000 miles. Car (service light), manual, and email from Kona told me to change the oil. Wanted to use my "free service plan". Dealership didn't want to do it. Claimed that I had to wait 8,000 miles for first oil change. Online manual had been changed. But I could pay myself. Nor using the online features of the car because of its lack of privacy. I refused to accept Hyundai's privacy policy, (as updated), so they won't give me access to the features. Probably still gathering/selling the data though.

I love my new suv!
I love everything about this vehicle! The drive is very smooth, the extras are great like the blind spot detection, and the app to control unlocking and locking the door. It has a sleek appearance and I love the cyber silver color! 10/10!

Budget friendly hot hatch ish.
If you love driving but don't want to break the bank. Look no further than the Kona N. It's all that and a bag of gluten free chips. Not for the timid or new drivers. Volkswagen GTI, Gr Corolla, and Civic type R vehicles are overpriced versions that offer similar performance. Stiffer suspension than I'd like but I'll live with it. The Kona N makes driving fun again!

Cute but underwhelming in every category
This is the second Kona I've leased over the last few years due to the dealership insisting it's technically the smallest "car" that Hyundai makes. This year I stepped down from the SEL Plus to the SEL because I didn't really need the extras that came with it. I wish I had reconsidered, because the SEL model only has wireless CarPlay, which is a much more significantly degraded experience than I would have expected. I was genuinely at a loss to understand why the model with a wireless charger has only wired CarPlay - and the model without it has only wireless CarPlay. It makes a little more sense now why the higher end packages don't go wireless, considering how bad it is, but it still feels like a bizarre choice. Neither car has ever even pretended to approach the estimated City or Highway mileage listed on the sticker. I am consistently 4-5 MPG under those estimates no matter how or where I drive. I took it on a recent road trip and it's been a while since I've seen a car struggle that hard to drive up a mountain. I guess it answers the question of whether it would be safe to try and pull a tiny UHaul trailer cross-country for a move when it can barely handle a single adult and suitcase. I'm also not entirely clear on why Hyundai insists that the car needs to scream at you the way the Konas do. This model might be a little less aggressive than the last one when it comes to how loud the beeps and warnings are, but it doesn't feel like much. I also don't understand why a car with the ability to remotely unlock the doors via my phone is so aggressive about not locking when it thinks the keys are still inside. At least twice now I've missed that the car immediately unlocked itself because I hit the button "too soon" while exiting the vehicle and it sat unlocked on the street all night. It's not the worst car I've ever driven, but I'm definitely regretting that I didn't go ahead and let the lease expire instead of signing onto a new one this time around.

No cruise control
The car definitely is fine for around town, but for long distance road trip the cruise control does not hold. The car went from 71mph setting to 65mph without any warning. No vehicles ahead of me or beside me. This feature is very unreliable. Even in lower mileage settings it doesn’t hold mph for any distance. Dealership has not been able to reproduce, but has not driven it on the open highway. I have turned off the automatic breaking because on a trip at 65mph a car cut me off and the vehicle went totally out of control. At less than 8000 miles already had to have the horn replaced. Hyundai has not responded to my repeated requests to have a my caseworker contact me to discuss the issues. I would like to know if anyone else has had these problems or know if there is a recall on this issue.

Kool kona car
Bought the 2023 SEL kona 2.0 liter for my companies errand vehicle. I've adopted the little car because it's fun to drive, handles and merges in traffic Effortlessly. Getting 380 miles out of 11.3 gallons of gas. Comfortable with many helpful safety features. Don't care for the auto/start mode or or lane keeping modes. Can be disabled.
Kona N Rules
We were looking for a fun gas fuel vehicle to purchase did not want an EV and was open to a Hybrid but an ICE was our first choice before they are legislated out. It came down to a Hornet or the Kona N. The N is about $10k option over basic Kona and worth every penny. My wife always tells me how much fun the car is even after doing routine drive errands. It get 30mpg on the highway and will blow away most other cars on acceleration. A real hoot this car is, ride is firm like a Miata or Porsche with factory P Zero tires but pretty relaxed when fitted with all season tires. I definitely would buy it again they only made it two years 2022 and 2023 so a low mileage used one may be all that is available.

Fun Car
The Kona is my third Hyundai. I lease them for three years. This is a great deal because I always have a car that gets free service too. My previous two were Tucsons and both were great. I decided to go for a smaller vehicle and went with the Kona. I'm 69 and was concerned about getting in and out with ease. The Kona does this well. It's comfortable up front but I think the back may get a bit tight. The design of the car is sporty and fun and this impacts rear storage. This is a small vehicle. I do mostly town and city driving and get around 26 mpg. This is a great improvement over the larger Tucson. The size makes the difference. What I do like is that this car is fun to drive. I've had it for 10 months and am still having fun. I find the engine not at all sluggish but downright zippy. Put it in Sport mode and it's a blast to drive. The vehicle is small and there is no option for a power lift gate. Having said that, this is a terrific vehicle.

Fun Driving
Too many apps, small trunk area without putting seats down are my only negative. Love the rest of vehicle, sporty, lots of gadgets, too smart for its own good. Easy to park with the backup camera and sensors.
2 cars in 7 months. Yikes
Only had the Kona N for 2 days but it is a comfortable nice handling vehicle. The turbo engine gives you quick smooth acceleration when needed.
AVOID !!!!!!!!!
First I have owned 4 new Konos and was loyal to brand but between 2 recalls , 5 injectors misfiring and now sunroof assembly broken and parts back order 45 days !!! 4400 miles Kono N line total lemon !!! Hyundai customer service is a joke like wow so bad . Lemon law this var in Florida and never coming back . Shame on you Hyundai for producing a new model year and have no part infrastructure... Greed !!!

Cute but lots of shortcomings
Not an owner but I did a test drive recently. On the plus side, the turbo engine has plenty of get up and go. Fairly nice looking little SUV too. On the downside, the interior just seemed cheap. Seats aren't that comfortable. Hard plastic trim everywhere so if you rest your elbow on the door sill it's not comfortable. The transmission didn't shift very smoothly and seemed to hang in the wrong gear for a couple extra seconds. Was an OK car, but there's much better options out there.

Love my Ms K
The vehicle handles great with tight steering. It is small enough and large enough at the same time. The look, the design and the price made me 100% satisfied.
Cute but small
It's a very reliable car, but very small especially when you have grandkids and I have had a few issues with the sensitivity of the sensors for accident detection and a few other things, but I will be hopefully trading it in within a year for something a little bigger.

Great Hatchback!
I know they call this an SUV, and if you're looking for one of those, you may be disappointed with its size. I consider this car a large hatchback, and to that end it shines. It drives great and has plenty of space up front. The tech is super easy, and with the 1.6 engine, you actually get the gas mileage they say you'll get (unlike every Nissan I've ever owned.) I love this car and plan on driving til the wheels fall off.
