Used 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
VCM a total flaw
Wish I could like the car but I'm tired of the repeated visits to the dealer to fix what really is a faulty engineering issue. VCM creates more problems than it solves. I wish that wasn't so. The Honda techs are saying this and, almost, apologetic about it. I wish that I could do my part to cut down on fuel consumption to be environmentally friendly. The problem is, the poorly implemented VCM causes me to go through 5 quarts of oil every 5,000 miles. I've had to replace cylinder rings and motor mounts and things are still not right. There's a TSB for this that's supposed to cover 2008+ vehicles but, for whatever reason, it doesn't apply to mine. So I'm stuck with the options to sell it (and pass this nightmare on to someone else who will develop the same feelings about Honda as I) or to remain on a first name basis with the Service Manager.

Keep up with maintenance! 242k still going 💪
My friends and I bought a 2008 Odyssey Touring model together to haul people and all of our stuff around school. For $3500, it is the best purchase we could’ve made! Only Con: *Gets horrible fuel economy in pure city driving (averaging 13 MPG). But it does get around 25 on the highways! After all it is a boxy and heavy minivan Pros: Way too many! *Drives silky smooth and quiet compared to competitors or economy sedans. Sound Insulation and power delivery is way ahead of its class *It’s incredibly spacious. Able to seat 8 people comfortably, and we even fit queen mattresses in the back during moving season. No more Uhauls! *as the touring model (top trim), it gets memory power seats, heated seats, backup camera (very useful for such a big van), front and rear parking sensors, electronically adjustable pedals, and tons more! And we spent $15 to get Bluetooth music through the AUX. However, if you are looking for one, make SURE you find one well maintained. Even though it’s a Honda, that doesn’t mean that they don’t need scheduled maintenance. A lot of common issues reported are due to negligence in maintenance and service. Our van has over 242k miles but still looks and runs like new since the previous owner took exceptional care of it. Oil changes every 3-5k miles. Transmission fluid every 20k, and timing belt / water pump every 100k. These vans are often known for their transmission failures but with proper care, they can easily tackle >200k miles. As a 14 year old vehicle, things do get old and break, but nothing is hard to fix! Other than wear and tear items (tires, brakes, battery, spark plugs, starter, etc), I have replaced interior bulbs, cleaned and lubricated the sliding doors, replaced a AC blend door actuator, and replaced a TPMS sensor. Cheap repairs that take no prior experience! And tackling these through YouTube instructions was pretty fun and educational too. There’s not a single warning light on the dash now and no squeaks and rattles anywhere! Even at 242k miles, we can still easily fetch $5k for this car if we wanted, but she’s a keeper until graduation!

Creaking, Squeaking, & Rattling
The first 3 months, this van was in the dealership off and on for 7 weeks. The rattling noises in the windows and doors were so loud that my 5 year old son thought it was hailing outside on a sunny day. Overall, space is awesome. Dvd & Nav function w/o any issues. Rear view camera is strange & deceiving. Almost out of car seats and will definitely switch out to a less noisy SUV.
Awesome van
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned! It is so versatile and can accommodate just about anything we need to do with it. Love the seats that can recline and that can even be taken out for more room if necessary! It was a great buy. Drives great, handles well in all types of weather!

O8 Odyssey Touring
Vehicle is average with utility in mind. This could be an excellent basic transportation were it not for tire and drivetrain vibration, road noise and Honda's denial and refusal to fix problems. This is not a luxury vehicle even though it is priced as one. Not refined, just good basic transportation. There are better choices.
