Used 1999 Honda Odyssey EX 4dr Minivan Consumer Reviews
Great seats for the long drive
I love my Honda van. I bought it used at 116,000km 6 years ago and it now has 310,000 km on it with only an alternator and the usual tires and brakes. I added a transmission cooler since I pulled a 3000lb trailer for two summers. This van is driven daily in town and driven coast to coast twice in Canada plus has seen 25% of the States.
Expected More
I am the not so proud owner of a 1999 Honda Odyssey. At 176,000 miles we are looking at our third transmission. At $4000 a pop this is really a no brainer. Very frustrating to say the least. We have put a fairly good amount of money into the care, repair and maintenance of the van and expected more from Honda. I am wishing we had gotten rid of it after the first transmission went bad at 75,000 miles and gotten a Toyota. We also drive a Camry with over 186,000 miles and have never had a transmission problem. Comfort is nice but I'd really like reliability and the ability to drive a vehicle long term without these repeated major repairs - like I though a Honda would provide.

Honda Cannot be proud of This Product!
We bought our van used with 68K on it, but because its a Honda we weren't worried. Boy were we WRONG! In the course of 5.5 yrs & 100K miles, we have been to the service center 21 times, replaced two trannys (soom 2B 3), constant sliding door problems, ignition switch recall, hard shifting all the time, and we are about fed up. We could have bought a brand new Domestic with the knowledge that the trannys would die, at least they would have been under warranty. The good things about the van are severely shadowed by the transmission problems. The engine runs very strong, but is no good without a reliable transmission. We spoke with American Honda, and due to our mileage offered no assistance.
nice van if no problem
I felt it was a nice car until I got several problem on it. I had honda to repair the power sliding door twice in 1999 and 2001 and had the engine repaired in 2001 for clogy(fortunately still within warrenty period). Hopefully I do not get any other major problem soon (my warrenty has gone). Driving this van is still a lot of fun. It is powerful and big.
Great Family Van
We bought this van new and have 129,000 miles on it. Its been great transportation - comfortable, roomy, great for hauling people and stuff. Have had problems with the doors but the dealer has been very reasonable. Had to replace catalytic converter at less than 100,000 miles and now it needs a new transmission. That's not covered by warranty but we are getting a deal ($500)plus labor. Only complaint is performance in snow - not great even with TCS. Plymouth Voyager was much better in snowy/icy conditions.
