HRV’s are the best
I’ve purchase/leased 4 HRV’s over the past 4 years. Nice looking cars, plenty of cargo space and great gas mileage. Most important of all to me: they are the perfect combination of size and safety features for our kids. That was the reason we bought the first one, and they haven’t disappointed. 2 slight annoyances though: 1.) You can get a slight shimmy at higher speeds, when heavier wet snow builds up on the rims of the open tires. I’ve felt that a handful of times driving down the highway, but not too bad. (Beyond that, they’re great in the snow) 2.) If not driven for a couple of weeks, the battery on one of ours tends to die and needs a jump. This may or may not be due to an “after market” remote starter we had installed. Overall, I really like HRV’s and so do our kids.

Dependable workhorse
- Honda reliability. Older design for both the frame and the engine. Which means this will be reliable vehicle for years to come. All the kinks are worked out over past few years. - I don't care for audio system. It could use redesign. Specifically, I will be missing USB-C port and blutooth android/apple car play. - The engine is not as efficient as I would like and is underpowered but workable. That's my opinion. - CarFax indicates the dealer replaced batter on the day of delivery. Not sure what that was about. The HR-V had 48 miles on it when I took possession of it. - Roof rails, moonroof are nice on my EX AWD trim. - the Magic Seats is what sold this car to me. The second row lifts up, creating insane amount of space for such small vehicle. You can fit a bike in there. The second seat also folds forward, flush with the trunk. You can actually sleep in that SUV, fully stretched out. Nice. On top of that its 40/60 split. - HR-V EX is loaded with the safety features, lane departure, adaptive cruise control, etc etc. Side camera activates when the right turn signal is on. Its all nice. - In the end, this is a nice vehicle that I plan on keeping for about 6-7 years. Very happy so far especially with a nice financing deal I got - 7 months/4,000 miles later, not much is changed. There were no issues with the vehicle. <br>

I love my HR-V!
I chose the Sport because I love the android auto/apple carplay for myself and passengers to play their playlists with apps. Smooth drive, way more comfortable seats than my old car. I could probably drive in this for hours and my back not hurt. I like that it tells me if I'm wasting gas by the way I drive and I like the all electronic dash. Still getting used to sitting higher but I'm enjoying better visibility (this is my first non-sedan).

Good for teen drivers
As a driving instructor I recommend Honda HRV. The reason is its good visibility, reliability, and safety. The engine has enough power so a teenager can’t really accelerate too fast and lose control. That said it’s a light car, meaning it’s not a heavy Ford truck or a beefy Chevy. But it’s still a better choice. Rear wheel drive cars like Fords and Chevys are harder to control and can spin in turns, not so much with Honda HRV
Not bad till you get on the freeway. Then sub par.
The Wife has always had CRVs and her last two I rather liked. They were a bit older though. We lived in a very rough part of the country though and they held up well. We are back in Los Angeles now though. Definitely a different kind of roads and driving. We have had this for almost two years now. She got it on a lease. We are definitely not keeping it afterward. Mostly, it's a great car. On surface streets, it's literally great. Not nearly as slow acceleration as I expected due to writeups I've seen. It does pretty well with cargo. I've folded down the seats and brought home a rather sizable pile of 2x4s and 4x4s but I put moving blankets over everything and tied them in a bundle after I stacked them. It will carry 4 large totes easily. It's great on gas but the tank is quite small so we don't spend a lot but we are constantly going to gas stations. It warms up well and the seat heaters are nice. I'm 6'2" and have a very broad shoulders and long arms and legs and I don't fit in lots of cars. This thing I fit right into. My knees touch on the outside but not bad or uncomfy at all. The CRV was pretty hard on my left knee. Don't know about the new ones. The stereo is pretty good. Not great but certainly good enough. I don't care for the touch screen much. It's also placed a bit too low for me. The Wife is 5'5" and she likes it. I don't like having to look down at it and it's smaller than my hand. So I'd rather have an old stereo with knobs that I don't even have to look at. My last car had nice controls on the steering wheel but I don't care for this one. That's just me nitpicking though. The wife says she never uses them either. The transmission is pretty good. No actual complaints. The paddle shifter was fun for a day or two and then it was just tedious. OK here are the BAD things. No way would I let my kids drive this car. The worst part is how it handles on the freeway. I've had everything from 1950s trucks, to 60s mustangs, a porsche, a modern corvette racecar, I put over 100k on a 2000 impala that was flawless handeling all across the country. Even on dirt roads. THIS car is garbage on the freeway. It feels every bump and not in a good way. Pot holes are horrible. The new tires that came with it grab seems in the road and want to follow them. The worst part is hard to describe though. Over 60 it's very twitchy and has a strange body roll type of response to hump type ups and downs on the freeway. The average speed on the open road here is 70-80. 90 is also very common on the 118 and the 5. Anything over 60 though is very uncomfy to drive. It takes a ton of extra attention to keep the thing from moving around in the lane and it's body movement and shocks are just horribly distracting. I don't remember ever having a car that was this annoying to drive on the freeway. I've never owned a new car in my life because I like motorcycles and trucks and I usually just build them myself. My last car was a 2000 impala and I drove the life right out of it and it never gave me a problem. Even when I overloaded it with a giant trailer full of stuff and ruined the axles. It still drove great. So I just put in new cheap axles and kept going. This brand new car can't even come CLOSE to driving that well once it's on the freeway. I'm gonna stop short of saying it's actually dangerous. People who live at 55 and 65, might not care. I don't drive that way though. I run my cars hard. So this car is going bye bye. Because of my motorcycle habits, I watch cars around me very carefully. Especially cars in front of me and coming toward me. And I can say this is definitely not my imagination. I watch how other cars react to road conditions and very few of them are as sloppy as this car is. For this kind of tech and money it should be waaaaaay out past the abilities of all my old junkers and it's not even close. My only other complaint is the warning thing that says I'm too close or someone is coming close or I'm crossing a line or whatever. First problem is it will warn against cracks in the road that don't even have paint on them. And I can feel those when the wheels grab them. So I don't need an annoying light and beeper telling me there are cracks in the road that it things are road paint. Also, I've been driving for 50 years now. Lots of racing as well. I've been avoiding bad drivers from all over the world my entire life. And this car is talling me all sorts of garbage that isn't helpful at all. Last thing I need is a car telling me every time I come near a line on a curvy road. So annoying. Also, the light for these warnings is UNDER the dashboard. Very low indeed. Who is the genious who though the best thing I have to do when I'm too close to something is to flash a light to try to pull my attention OFF the road and DOWN under the dash location? That is the absolute stupidest thing I have ever seen in a car. If I could cut a wire and kill it. I would. I turned off the crap that slams on brakes and grabs the wheel. I've had both of those go off at wrong times. Even though I turned it off, this annoyingly distracting piece of crap light keeps flashing yellow when I need my eyes on the road. I finally just put a card over that section of the dash. Cuz that thing is pure trash. I was wondering if I was just turning into an old guy but the wife hates it to. So this car is going bye bye as soon as it's time. We went and test drove an electric Ford Mustang and HOLY CRAP! That thing was absolutely perfect. NONE of the problems we have with this car. So that's a bit pricey but I fit in it even better its craaaaazy fast and handles like a dream. So we are getting that. Going to switch over to an electric truck as well. That and put solar on the roof to try to recoup some of the cost. Anyway, that's my honest review. This is the first Honda I've ever not liked. All the cars were great. The motorcycles were great too. If you want a car that's zippy and goes around corners and is nice on long trips, This comes close but you might learn to absolutely hate it on the freeways. I see a driving instructor who like it but I wouldn't let my kids even drive this. I see way too many oportunities for bad things to happen with this car. It might do well in a crash but I've not crashed a car in 50 years of speeding and driving hard and this thing feels like a risk just doing 70. So I would recoment this car for the young or bad drivers. If you mess around with a phone while you drive, firstly I hate you, but don't drive this thing on the highway with anything but both hands and your full attention or yer raising the risk of problems that yer already ignoring. It's too bad it has that one problem. Other than the freeway thing, I legitimately like it. Well, the warning thing sucks too but on regular streets and even in the canyon roads. . . it's a very nice car. We would prefer another CRV now. Especially the hybrid. The Ford is just too nice to pass up though.
