Mileage is excellent (37 combined) and the engine and transmission are smooth and will last. But the interior design is so poor that I got rid of the car already. Shifter is so far forward that you have to continually reach for it. Between the seats needs an arm rest. Seat belts bind.

Fun to drive, but BUYER BEWARE!

The car is fun to drive. It has good acceleration and corners very well. Gas mileage is pretty good, averaging around 33 mpg combined city and highway driving. BUYER BEWARE THE A/C CONDENSER. A week ago, I noticed that my A/C was not cooling. Called the dealership and they said that it was possibly a rock through the condenser. I took it in, and sure enough, a big hole in the A/C condenser. Cost of repair, $576. I did a Google search and apparently this is a common event that Honda will not address as a problem, not only on civic, but also accord and odyssey. They tell you to file a claim with your insurance company for their poor design. This is not what I expected from a Honda.

After driving the Chevy Cobalt, Corolla and Aveo I tried this car and there is no comparison hands down, the Civic won me over. I have had no problems at all. Very little road noise. This car is sharp inside and out and excellent on gas. Very solid and stable performance. I'm looking for reasons to drive it. This is my first non GM car and now I see why GM is slipping. Only Honda for me from now on. The A/c will freeze you out!

Overall I love my Civic Si but I want to write an objective review. My Si is comfortable, reliable and built with quality materials inside. It's fun to drive, however I've gotten used to the 197 hp and weak 139 lb ft torque; torque should be improved in the future. MPG varies depending on driver, I get between 17-21 mpg city. The paint is not the best. It will scratch quickly and rock chips cause more damage than it should. I spend too much time and $ trying to care for the paint/exterior. I'm not bothered by the two-tier dashboard. A noticeable problem with Honda's is road noise. Exterior design is getting old, needs to be overhauled IMO.

I test drove a 2008 model before the 2009, and the feel and acceleration is much smoother and noticeably more responsive in the 2009 vs. 2008. I did not want to rate reliability, as I have only had the car for a couple weeks now. But for the two weeks I will just say 10. The Civic Hybrid is rated better in crash test than the Prius, and gets comparable fuel economy. I truly believe the Honda Civic Hybrid is a far better value than any other small or mid-sized hybrid vehicle on the market.

I read so many reviews on this car. Some bad and some good. But, I would like to offer my assessment. Be real to yourself when deciding which car to buy. Mine are 1) fuel economy 2) resale value 3) reliability 4) style 5) fun to drive. Honda Civic beat out Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla-S, and Nissan Sentra. So far, I avg 35 mpg with mix hwy/city driving. I am not a heavy foot pedal, so power is good enough. It's really fun to drive. Overall, I know I had made a right choice. :=))

Love my car. It does have some issues, however. Unfortunately the real power is mostly limited to the v-tech 6000- 8000rpm range, which goes by very quickly. Steering wheel feels cheap, small, light. Feedback through steering wheel is subpar, brakes need tuning when used on uneven surfaces, handling is subpar on uneven surfaces and sudden changes in direction at high speeds - it feels as if the car is swaying in corners. Lint/dirt sticks to suede seats, but they are comfortable. Excellent gearbox, stereo system. Plastic on doors, center console is not put together well - feels cheap. Gas mileage is not too great considering the high octane fuel that is required and the low power(0-60 is slow).

Best car purchase of my life x2. Had a civic back in 1995 - 2002 and loved it. I'm so glad Honda came out with the hybrid. Looks a lot better than the Prius. I already have fallen in love with this car with 40+ mpg. Living 50 miles from my job helps me to save at the pump. This was the major buying factor for me other than I have always liked Honda's products.

I traded a 15 year-old Saturn with manual steering and only 37,000 miles so this car is a real treat. I did a lot of new car research and frankly don't understand some of the negatives expressed on Edmunds. The Honda is comfortable, the two-tier digital speedometer is no problem, the emergency brake handle is not a problem. Stereo/CD player sounds great, can't really tell about fuel economy yet, had to warm it up a lot this winter. Variably intermittent windshield wipers would be nice, but not a big issue. Took me 3 months before I had 600 miles to finally get to use the cruise control and it's fine. Some want a remote trunk opener on the key? Oh please, I mean opening a trunk is difficult?

Smooth...silky smooth...from ride to gear linkage to acceleration. Car feels like much more expensive mid level cars on the road. Nice styling but age of the design is showing and rivals are have more power and sportiness to them. Was looking at this and Alima 2.5 coupe but price was right. Had the original CRX...this civic comes close but the CRX was much more of a drivers car.

I've had my Civic Si now for almost a year and can say that it is the best car for the $$$ that I've ever purchased. I've owned many sporty cars before, too. The reviews that I've read that were negative were from people that probably shouldn't have bought this car to start with. The car is made for DRIVING, not commuting to and from work. The regular Civic is what they should've bought. You get WAY more than what Mazda, VW or Subaru can offer for the $21,000 that I paid for this car even with the navi. I drive long distances for work and average 33 mpg on those highway trips and get about 25 in the city. I would definitely recommend this car to just about everyone.

THIS IS MY FIRST HYBRID, and it's only a day old or so. I wanted to write about my first impressions and a few months from now, I'll write again. First of all the ride is smooth and solid. With the CVT, SHIFTING IS SEAMLESS, because there aren't any gears, just one consistent motion. The style looks like a Civic, so don't expect people to stop and notice your new Hybrid. However, you can smile and know how your new car isn't thirsty for gas, and the stereo is top notch. The interior leather is very comfortable, and the blue luminous gauges have a futuristic look and very easy to read.We got a fantastic lease, $305/ 36 month. Only first payment down, plus they paid off our other lease, 2months.

I drive about 33,000 miles per year, mostly highway. This is one of a very few cars that can do commuting and playing at the same time and do them well. For commuting, it's comfortable, reliable and economical(I average 31 MPG, 2 MPG better then EPA estimates). When you want to play, just rev the crap out of it and it rewards you, handling is solid, power is great (above 6000 RPM), and engine notes are extraordinary. All it needs is more torque, if Honda put in the Japan only "R" engine, this thing would be nirvana on wheels. If you do a lot of commuting, yet enjoy a spirited drive, this is one of the best buys out there.

Hybrid Good and Bad

2009 Honda Civic Hybrid 4dr Sedan (1.3L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

The ONLY reason to even consider the Civic Hybrid is for the great gas mileage. You must drive it differently, pay attention and respond to what the instant mpg gauge and battery gauges tell you. Learning to anticipate lights, allow some slowing on hills, feathering the gas, avoiding the use of brakes and staying at the speed limit yield great results. No lead foot gas use, won't go fast anyhow. Winter driving conditions and sloppy driving habits destroy mpg. Large interior, but VERY noisy and not comfortable after a couple hours. Cheaped out on auto on head lights, dash layout, seat adjusters and tires. Did I say it was NOISY? First, and LAST, Honda.

The build quality of the '09 LX is equal to my last C Class Mercedes and the reliability will be much better at half the price. This vehicle is a solid, comfortable, quiet fun car to drive. When I pause to think about what I paid for this wonderful car I just have to laugh. The LX is a wonderful value, while also being lots of fun to drive. I'm so happy that I bought this car and wonder others pay so much more for those "high priced" brands.

Love this car! Traded in my 2006 Honda Pilot EXL. Don't miss it a bit. I love the savings in gas too. My first tank of gas, I averaged 31 mpg. The pilot got 16 mpg. For a small car, it is not cramped and the trunk is very large. The car has great pick-up and I love being able to listen to my ipod. So far, I'm very happy with my new purchase.

This is the first Honda I have ever owned and I LOVE IT! I was driving a van and getting 22 mpg. It was costing me a bundle so after researching fuel efficient cars I decided on the Civic. It's getting 36 mpg right out of the gate! I'm thrilled with my decision and if it holds up like everyone says, then my daughter who will be driving in 5 years will be thrilled with it too. It holds my four kids comfortably and is roomy enough for my husband to drive and not feel cramped.

Just noticed the Civic's A/C does turn on without my command. The A/C fan turn on first in the morning when I start my car (the command button is OFF and it is not at ON state). Then after some driving, park on driveway, see water drops on driveway (just exactly like when A/C is on in hot Summertime). Then noticed from time to time, I can feel there is 'cool' air blow out and status shown is OFF state. All of all, convinced me that the A/C is some ON all the time. Is any other owner having similar experience? There are annoying rattle sound from the roof and/or dashboard in Winter. Reported to the dealer but the excuses is have to wait for the time when it reoccurs again - next Winter

Great on gas mileage and it has all the bells and whistles you can ask for in a luxury car. I suggest if you're in the market for a compact car, DEFINITELY consider the Honda Civic!

I have had my Civic for almost a year now and I must say that when it comes to GAS it has given me excellent miles for my bucks, pump once a week or every 9 days $32 max. This car has been driven to SA,TX 2 times, and SEATS start to hurt your back after a while, plus you can't avoid hearing the ROAD NOISE. too loud. Other than that, I did purchase this car for fuel economy and I have been happy thus far. Due to uncomfortable seats and my passengers struggling to get in and out of my car I am looking for a larger vehicle, BUT I do recommend the Honda Civic for those who like cute compact, gas saver and economical prices.

I traded in my Expedition for this Civic as a means to get rid of my truck and to resell the Civic with no problem. At first I was just going to keep it until I found something else that I was interested in, but not anymore. I am more than pleased with the purchase of this car. Before it was just an in-between car, but now the more and more I drive it, I couldn't believe why it took me so long to realize this is the best car for your dollar overall. It's so fun to drive, styling is amazing, interior feels like you are in a cockpit of a jet and best of all it is so practical for almost any occasion. My suggestion to anyone thinking of buying one is too buy it and never look back!

I picked up my 2009 LX 4-door today -- 4,500 miles in Crystal Black Pearl -- nice! I love this car! Rides great and handles great as well. Other reviewers have stated noisy ride. Well, let's see, it's a 4-cylinder, it's not a Rolls-Royce people! The road noise is no worse than any other compact car. The noise is also dependent on the road surface on which you are driving. All controls are within reach and where they logically should be. The digital speedometer pod is very cool and very easy to get used to, it took me like 2 minutes to adjust. If you are looking for a small car that handles well, is fun to drive, good and gas and very reliable, CHECK OUT THE CIVIC.

Bought the Civic LX-s because I liked the combination of features that it had for the price. The interior looked much better than the EX, with the Si seats, leather wrapped wheel. Audio is a little weak, but it can be enhanced easily with aftermarket. Only filled up once and with a combination of city and hwy, got 30 mpg. Road noise is a little more than I expected, but ok. Instrument display is great, handling is quick and acceleration is what you should expect for this class. Interesting to note that the Civic is now just about as big as the previous Accord that we had (1993), although it weighs a lot less.

Reliable and sporty (I have the coupe). Very well designed and quite a looker. It's fun to drive granted it's no civic Si but it is quick and agile. I decided to go with the EX Coupe because the Si's have shifter and clutch problems. The sound system is 350 Watts and has a subwoofer. This comes in the Coupe EX and the Si's only. Very happy with the bass response from it. Nice Standard Alloy Rims. Shifts are crisp and smooth. I would definitely purchase this car again. Very complacent ride that does a great job around the corners and is comfortable on rough roads. My only minor complaint is something that plagues Hondas and that is the road noise. It's not awful but could be better.

I traded in my BMW 3 series when it became too expensive to maintain. I leased a Honda Civic because it's cheap, safe, and good on gas, not because it's the kind of car you fall in love with, but I fell in love with it! I've driven it from NJ to Montreal and Williamsburg for weekends, and it's comfortable for long drives. It handles well, even in light snow. Very solid build quality: no squeaks, no rattles, no loose parts. Turn the key, and off you go. With easy driving you can get about 40 mpg on regular gas. This is my first Honda but definitely not my last. I would recommend Honda to anyone. Unbelievably comfortable, nice car for the money.

Really fun and peppy ride. The only problem I have is with the driver's seat. I'm 5'8" and find the seat extremely uncomfortable, digging into my leg underneath and my foot falls off the pedal to the right. To be expected for a compact car I guess. I wonder whether it's just me or if others are having similar experiences with the car seat? Also, there is no visibility in the front or back. Parking not easy.

I'm 16 years old, and my old Civic which was 2001 got hit by a truck when it was parked outside of my house and totalled. We were shopping for a replacement car. It was between the Civic or the 2009 Toyota Corolla. We got a really good deal on my 2009 Civic. It only has 17,000 miles. I love it. It looks nicer and more up to date than the Corolla. I'm glad we were able to get it. I just got it a few days ago so I can't report on the driving experience. So far I love driving it, and I love the auxiliary input. It handles very well. My only complaint, which I don't think should be changed because it makes the car what it is, is the hood is so short.

My chief priority in my purchase this time was fuel economy. I was a little nervous going from my large sedan (Ford 500) to a smaller economy type car. After driving several makes and models, I decided to go with the Civic. I am not disappointed at all. I went with the LX-S because I liked the black interior and some of the extras it came with. The car handles great and the 4 cylinder has surprising power. The fuel economy is better than expected. 4 fill ups and I have been getting 30 + mpg with over 70% being city driving. The interior is very roomy even for my 6'3 frame. The car feels very solid and just a lot better quality then all the competition I looked at. New Honda convert.

Overall I'm very pleased with the Civic. Fuel economy has exceeded my expectations, and the car is very nimble and fun to drive with the manual. The seats are also very comfortable, and there's plenty of room for me (5'11") even with the seat raised to its highest position. I would have rated it with 10's across the board if it weren't for a few things: 1) Either drive-by-wire or the VTEC mechanism makes acceleration under certain conditions somewhat choppy and abrupt. 2) There's a creaking noise coming from the front suspension, and a rattle coming from the rear of the car. I can't determine the source of either. 3) Thin paint.

This car is the most fun you are ever going to have in a small coupe -- and it's stick only so you really have to drive it -- no easy peasy automatic transmission for real drivers. 200 hp in a light weight small car means your power to weight ratio is obscene. And when you floor the throttle in mid gear it takes off like a rocket, but sticks to the road like glue in the corners. Now if they would just make a convertible.

This is a fantastic car overall, quite comfortable and very well executed. Just gave back leased 2005 civic and bought this one with all the items EX- L model. Surprised at how innovative this car is compared to the 05 and that's meant in the best way possible, if shopping for a new car in this price range or even a slightly higher price range, give the civic a drive, you'll enjoy it. One piece of advice is to make sure you do your research on not just the car but the dealership!

Look for reasons to drive

We traded in a 2001 Caddy for my new Civic and find this car so much more fun to drive. Test drove Toyotas and Hyundais--Civic outshone them all. I've taken it on two trips and had plenty of trunk room for 3. Car handled well on highway beside big rigs as well as city driving. I wish it had better hwy noise insulation. Also wish the seats were not quite so hard and had lumbar support but because I like everything else, I can live with it. Got a great deal on the car in mid June which makes me like it even more! I plan to keep it until it dies. Three out of four sons have Hondas and all have high miles and are doing great. Sweet husband volunteered to drive the old family van.

I will have about 200K on this car in 4 years...have driven 30K so far and there are no issues what so ever. I get 38-41MPG combined (improved from 35 when purchased). The car handles well and is very comfortable with the exception of the location of the E- brake. Be very careful...this bothers me personally on long trips. No issues whatsoever at 30K. The Goodyears are crappy and wearing down. The stereo has one speaker that vibrates (I don't care). System sounds decent enough. I can plug in my ipod, love that. Stick shift is smooth and very sweet with adequate power. This car has been exactly as desired so far. I expect the build quality to stand above most other brands.

Worst car in the history of the world

Please read my review before you consider buying this car. The Honda Civic 2009 model was the first car I ever bought. I showed so much enthusiasm when the car keys were handed to me, I wish I hadn’t. I feel like I have built this car from scratch. Changed everything on the car and I mean everything. I’ve owned this car for 3 years or should I say the mechanic has rebuilt this car for the past 3 years now. Overheating, gear box failure, brake and accelerator issues etc.. This car is poorly wired. There’s always an electrical issue. One time I thought the car was about to burn. Security from my company had to use an extinguisher to prevent it from burning. I have been to the mechanic shop more than I have driven the car. I’m purchasing my Range Rover Evoque soon. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. Did I mention that the car has refused to move in traffic so many times I’ve lost count. Both driver and passenger side windows have been replaced but still refuse to function properly. I used the AC for 2 months and since then it has refused to work without causing the car to overheat. I gave up on the AC. The overheating problem is a constant. Expect it. There are too many issues to pinpoint. I’d need a whole website to finish my review so I’d end here for now. PLEASE DON’T BUY THIS CAR. Try a bicycle instead. Thanks

Well if your in the market for hybrid, I don't think Honda has it's act together. The performance is not any better than a civic, maybe a couple MPG's. It's under powered, I don't know what the eclectic motor does, seems nothing to me. They only way you save any money on gas in town driving is when you stop the gas engine stops, thats about it.

1. Leather Seats are not good. I already see wrinkles - Bad quality leather 2. Bad pickup. 3. Mileage is not as promised. 4. Has 6 Speaker and 1 woofer but woofer is very bad (Honda or the Dealer continue to claim it's good but it's not good). Creates buuurrrr sound at volume 9. 5. Definitely need re-engineering in all aspects. 6. Buy EX-L if the on-road price is $14,000.

Not Impressed - can't recommend

I took this car for a ride on CA State Route 1 (Pacific Coast). I have to begin by saying that I am not impressed. This car has a serious blind spot problem. Too much of blocking when you do a head check. Leather seats are of bad quality. Sound system needs improvement. I am 5'9" getting in and out is very uncomfortable. Audio unit gets heated up. Inside cabin is noisy. Wondering what would remain on 65MPH head on collision. I was shocked to see the design design beneath the bumper. I would rate safety features somewhere between 3 to 4. AC units has problem. Not sure if I can recommend this car to my friends.

Honda Civic LX New Car Review

I have had the car two weeks and have had no problems with it other than adjusting to automatic transmission from manual and the automatic windows and door locks. It is very easy to handle and takes corners smoothly. It drives like an automatic so I can hear when the engine wants to shift and since I'm used to manual, I would shift it at a few different RPMs but I am getting used to it. I rated it low as fun to drive because manual transmission is more fun to drive. The dealer didn't have any manuals so I thought I would try automatic. If you are really set on manual I would hold out for it as automatic is not the same thing.
