A Car For The Ages

I want to second what all the previous reviewers have said. This car is an exceptional vehicle for the money. Reliable, fun to drive, driver comfort is excellent. This is not a muscle car; but who needs one. It has sufficient acceleration for passing and entering a highway and for long distance, the car just hums along super stable at 80 mph. I purchased my 1993 SI new and with regular maintenance it just keeps on trucking, I have 95,000 miles. I recently did a 4,000 mile driving trip from San Francisco along the West Coast up to British Columbiua. Then across and through the Canadian Rockies and back down through the Cascades. The car never failed me.

When my daughter got her license rather than find a car she was comfortable with I gave her my 2009 Civic (which has 120K on it). I was lucky to find a 93 del Sol automatic with only 85K, new paint job and tires for $3500. To say driving it is a blast is an understatement. The driving position is low to the ground reminding me of my 85 Prelude. Pop the top off and put it in its holder in the trunk and slide down the back window and its a dream to drive on a summer day. Power won't blow you away but that's not what this car is about, it's just fun to drive, it handles great, is very stable and on my first fill up I got almost 37 mpg! Looking forward to having this car for many more years!

Best car I have ever owned

I purchased my Del Sol last summer for 3100, A STEAL in my opinion. GETS AWESOME GAS MILEAGE, I average 38 mpg. Is great overall, I would say the only complaint is that it is to perfect, lol. I only have 116k on mine, and would expect her to go another 200k without any trouble. If you are considering buying a Del Sol, I would say make sure to get one that is stock, It seems like to many people think it is cool to modify these Del Sols and make them look terrible. I have only replaced the speakers since the old ones died. I just wish there where more of them out there. I have only ever seen 2 others since i have owned mine.

Bought my Si in 1993 and have never regretted it. Standard maintenance + replaced radiator & alternator. In 2005 my Honda dealer said I needed $2800 in preventive repairs so I decided to sell. Put a deposit on another car, couldn't sleep all night, went in and got my deposit back and took my del Sol to an independent mechanic. He did everything necessary for $800 and I'm still driving it, and I sleep well every night :-). I'm in the NE so I'm getting some rust damage and I have to replace some exhaust element every few years (can be big $$!) I get almost 40 mpg (5 spd manual) and I'll drive this car until one of us won't go anymore. At this rate (14.5 yrs and counting) it might be me!

Since I purchased the first one I loved it. Great car automatic or manual 5 speed! The car handles great. Mine is all original until this past weekend when I wrecked it. Some light front end damage and hopefully they won't total it. I love the car and can't say much bad about it. I live in Ohio and I get about 30 to 35 miles per gallon and that's in town. But, that is keeping my foot out of it as well. My daughter's is an automatic and gets a little less but she has a heavy foot. As for the guy that said he had problems starting when warm, look for a relay under the dash! A common problem. Techs call it rainy day syndrome. It's hooked into the starter wiring, I think.

I bought the car new in 1993. At 288,000 miles I bought a Japanese exchange engine because the original engine started to use oil and it was cheaper to buy a "used" engine from Japan and replace the clutch. Total cost about $1800. I love the car even though it is noisy, the sun visors are useless, and there are no functional cup holders. Besides the replacing the engine the only time I had a mechanical problem was when the distributor wore out at 295,000 miles. That is the only time in 15 years the car stranded me. It gets 32 to 35 mpg and that's driving at 80+ mph. It is a great car overall even though it has the less powerful engine.

bought this car new in '93 and still own it with 190k miles. the only embarrassment for me is i feel like the honda marketing folks said, "let's build a car for THAT guy." fun. plenty fast. looks "normal" with the top on, ALWAYS gets comments with the top off. solid 33 mph in both the city and on the highway. loved it so much that i'm buying a '97 from a friend. if you want a really fun, reliable, car that can be parked anyway and isn't owned by everyone on the planet, this is it. this model had 4 recalls (rear window, fuel line placement, transmission shifting placement and rubber roof seal) -- none of these were really "problems," but get a car that's had 'em all done.

Why did I ever buy a Ford?

To start, I traded a lower mileage 2001 Ford Mustang Premium for this Del Sol, but it was completely worth it. I can't imagine myself without this car. The previous owner didn't treat it too well so I have replaced a few parts, but still haven't spent over $1000. It handles amazingly, even on snow (no sliding) and bumps (can't feel them). MPG is a blistering 40+MPG. I live in Ohio and it stays cold for awhile yet I drive around in snow with the targa off. The cabin is so small it stays warm enough to make you sweat. It is my first manual and it took the abuse of me learning without any damage. I will never sell this car!

My car is a '93 with 163,000 miles and runs as new. I just repainted it, have '17 chrome wheels and looking cool, nobody believes is a 17 years old car. Engine is excellent, the only thing I have to fix is a oil leaking, and the ac broke in the middle of Miami summer. It doesn't run more than 80 mph, but that has keep me free of speeding tickets. It's a very small car, so think is more for a single hot girl ;)

Bought a black 93 Del sol S with 121k miles on it about 3 months ago. It was an amazing car while it lasted. It got great gas mileage and never had a problem. Unfortunately, I was cut off and this car was absolutely totaled. I gotta say, for such a small car, it kept me safe, I had no injuries whatsoever, in a 50mph crash. Too bad it hadn't held up better though, the engine was toast because the front end didn't hold up. I plan on buying another one any day now, I love these cars!

I recently purchased a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol Si used with 170,222 miles on it. The car was purchased as is and had natural wear and tear. The purchase price price was $3,600 out the door. I took it immediately to a Honda dealership that I trust and purchased my other vehicle from. I had roughly $1,600 worth of repairs done to it. The costs were mainly due to labor charge but I was able to get extra services done for free. The belts were replaced and most seals replaced along with replacing all the fluids in the car. The windshield wipers were replaced as well. I enjoy the car and trust it to take me across the country, no problem. Total investment on this car is $5,200.

I must say that Honda did a great job with the Del Sol. It is a very fun car to drive. I drive approximately 340 miles a week with 184000 miles already on it and it still runs strong. Manual tranny is smooth and reliable. Low end torque is not the greatest, but gets the job done. Very customizable car, with tons of JDM aftermarket parts. Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this car to those looking to buy!

i had the delsol for 9 years and it didnt have any big problem. honda is really reliable. very fun car to drive especially with the top off. really nice look too. but it needs more power.. its kind of slow for its look. there're vtecs for 94 and up but more power would be even better!! when i first saw the car i thought its very small inside but actually its not. its quite roomy that it fits a 6ft me with no problem. much better than the miata that i feel like i'm sitting in my little cousins toy car. the car had over 140000 miles on it at the time i sold it but it still ran great. its kinda bad on snow but hey, its a very light car.

I've had my Del Sol for 9 years and I love it. The automatic didn't help the power but for that downfall, the reliability far outshadowed that minor imperfection. Fit and trim are still good after all these years. I always feel like my del sol will get me where I want to go...reliably and economically even after 113,000 miles. Have had many offers to sell for a good price.

This is the most reliable car I have driven. My entire family loves the car. An automatic rear window is awesome and some people are shocked at it. I get compliments all the time. Saftey is great, good brakes and steering is wonderful. I would like to slap the cupholder engineer and the trunk release engineer for a few things.

This is quite possibly the best money I have ever spent, period. Everything inside the car is exactly where you would want it to be and logically placed. The car handles well and, even with no more than 80-90 whp in an S, it's still a BLAST to drive. The car still looks new and everywhere I take it, people compliment it. I've never, even for one second, regretted purchasing my Sol.

The del Sol is extremely sporty and the removable/convertible top is extra fun and so convenient since it stores easily in the trunk. I have had no major problems with the vehicle which is normal for most Hondas. My car is almost eleven years old and aside from an occasional rattle on a bumpy road, it stills runs great.

When I bought my del sol it had been mistreated so I decided to do it justice. Fixed just about everything: suspension (struts, springs, sway bars), new brakes including a whole new rear caliper, new exhaust since the old one fell off, new intake, plugs, seals, oil change right off the bat. Lately it has had the common Honda main relay problem and is now off the road with a possible timing problem. But it's a one of a kind car so I've decided to keep it and fix it rather than part it out

I wanted to purchase a DelSol since the very first commercial/billboard. In 1995 I purchase a lease trade-in. I love how easy it is to get in and out of parking spots, the great fuel milage, and the top is so easy to take off and put in the trunk. Besides regular maintenance my cost have been minimal. Funny thing the car just stopped running at 100K EXACTLY, but all it needed was a new fuel injector and it has been going another 54K since then!

I remember the excitement I fealt as I picked up my brand new 1993 Honda Del Sol Si -- Red. This was a near flawless car. The only issue I experienced was during my first fall/winter with the car. My rear window completely shattered on me the first time I used the rear window defogger. I took it into my dealership and they said it was a factory error, and that the glass hadn't been tempered correctly. This was my only issue! On a lighter note, I did meet a lot of hot babes with this car! Woo hoo! I traded my Del Sol in, in 1996 (against my will). I am getting really excited since I am going to buy a 1995 version of my same car this week. I can't wait!

At the same time, it is a very reliable vehicle which transfar you and your passenger from point A to point B everyday without any problem. It is a people's sports car which eats minimum gas, and it asks you faily reasonable maintenence cost. Most of all, taga top is the best "fun" part of this car.

Certainly not a very powerful car but it's so fun to drive and incredibly reliable! People are always surprised when I tell them it's a '93. The design makes it look like a much newer car. The only complaint I have is that if it rains heavily the seals on the removeable roof leak fairly badly (design flaw?) and unfortunately it is around $1,000.00 to get these seals replaced. OUCH! I guess the name says it all the del sol seems to be made for fairer weather.

The car is small so it's easy to drive. It's also very light so handling is good especially after some aftermarket items. The shifter is awesome. The targa seal leaks though. Not enough torque around 2000-3000 RPM to make driving at stop and go traffic easy with a 5 speed. The engine revs fast, especially in VTEC zone.

Being a small sports car, it's very fun to drive and has a great transmission/easy shifting like all Hondas. Its a bit noisy and not a deluxe comfort car, but it's an easy trade-off for the delight of it. Quick and easy removal and storage of the roof makes the change convenient, and the large trunk storage allows for practicability.

The glove box is pointless.I think the motor on the power window is on it's way out.It has this new rattle when i accelerate up hills, so something else is about to fall apart on it.

Honda tends to do things right even on my first year del sol S ['93]. However they really missed the market when they only offered things like cruise, power mirrors, remote trunk release, etc on the SI's. I owned a '93 four door civic which had all the creature comforts that the del sol lacks. The del sol is fabulous but not equipped to be a day tripper. Seats come up short for any extended drives. Maybe that is why I only have 64K on the odometer. I really miss not having a cruise control; anyone out there ever do a retrofit?

I've had my Sol for almost 3 years. I got rear ended by a van pretty hard. It didn't do a lot of damage, my bumper just got pushed in a little bit and paint got scraped off. Overall my car has been reliable until the hot summer heat. My car wouldn't start in hot weather. I would have to wait til the car cools down. I have done many mods on my car, and really enjoy driving around though. Good thing the weathers starting to cool down a bit :D

I bought this car used in 1997 with 38000km on it. I only drive it in the summer and I have had a lot of fun with it. I have owned a lot of vehicles and none come close to the amount of fun that I have driving this car. And its stilla head turner. Anyone looking for a great sports car should seriouly consider this one.

Even with 102hp, still gets up and goes, very relable, and looks better than most cars 10 years younger. Best car i've ever bought, dont plan on buying another for a very long time.
