A reliable yet fun commute ride
This car is great for a commute ride. Very reliable, good gas milage. The trunk is amazingly useful.
Best car I ever owned
I love this car and it's the only one that I still loved after it was paid for. It's now 11 years old and still looks great (always garaged, no damage, still shiny). it's so fun to drive, lots of room in the trunk.

Little Car - Little Engine
This car is fun, and well designed. The top stores well in the trunk, which is pretty well sized for such a small car. Feels king of sloppy over rough roads, but I suppose this is typical of light cars with no frame over your head.
I love this car
I asked for a black 2 seater covertible for my first car from my parents. I wanted a C3 Corvette. I am so glad my parents had the forsight to buy me my '93. Its fast, fun and economical.
1993 Del Sol
This is the most fun car I have ever owned. Having only two seats has it's drawbacks but in general, it's an 'economical' sports car. I added an upgraded sound system and alarm, and it really doesn't need anything else.
MY DEL SOL
I HAVE 216000 MILES ON MY DEL SOL,
del Sol love
Best car. Period. End of story. Must drive, everyone must drive. del Sol love. del Sol love.
Best cheap thrill for under 3K
What can I say... this car is fun to drive as well as fuel efficient. The only problems are the roof seals leak even after being factory replaced. The factory radio is lacking in audio quality. This is the best car you can find in the 2500 to 4500 range for fun, quality and economy and still have a resale value. I average 34 MPG at highway speeds. The trunk is roomy and the car is very inexpensive to maintain. If you can find one that has not been chopped up by a teenager, it is a safe bet for a quality and fun to drive car.
Awesome fun car
I drive this car everyday 126 miles round trip to work and I love it!!!
Flashy Yet Classy
I was looking for a street racer and when I came across the Del Sol it was hands down #1 on my list. It was easy to trick out and now it accelerates 0- 60 in under 7 and carves corners like a hot knife through butter with minimal upgrades. This car is sweet and has alot of potential.
I still love it...refuse to sell it.
I purchased the car in 1996. It has been daily driver ever since. My wife & I have 2 kids & we can't bring ourselves to sell it. It makes a great commuter car & a great third "fun" car. I was going to buy a Miata, so glad I didn't. This car has a lot of room for a two seater. I can fit my lawn mower in the trunk w.the handles folded:)& close the lid. We have taken it on numerous vacations. I have only had to replace the distributor, besides the regular scheduled things. We have over 165,000 miles & I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
Samba beast
I have driven my del sol for 2 years and it has performed flawlessly. People still ask today if the car is new and its 12 years old. Looks sporty and handle like a champ. Interior is very roomy for a two seater. I have a JL 12W6v2 behind the seats in a custom box with no sacrifice to seat room.
TOPless has never been more fun!
Its the kind of car where u KNOW it's going to be minimal and basic but you don't really care. REMARKABLY peppy engine for a 1.5L---even with an auto. trans! 13' wheels are embarrassing, and u really feel in the turns. Handling is ok, ride is VERY harsh. Sedated steering--turning is almost TOO easy. SO much creaking when the top is on that I feel like I'm in a haunted house! Cupholders SUCK! SO much room--and I'm 6'1! Trunk is big enough for a dead body. DENTS very easily...buy a ding king! The int. lamp is useless---like the sun-visors. Power rear window is bloody wicked. Considering that it's a 1993, I think that overall it's one hell of a cool car! I'd love to find an Si and modify it!!
My Experience
I've had my car for about 2 years now and there have been minor to zero problems. I like the gas mileage and to be realistic it gets about 30-32 mpg highway miles. I don't know where 40 mpg came from the review by Bovine just below. If he was talking about the Del Sols with the 1.5 motor then I could understand. Giving the Si more credit I guess. Which it doesn't really need. The motor is noisy but then again it IS a sports car so why it bothers anyone I don't know. The roof rattled a bit after I bought it but I fixed it by replacing the seals that were under $100. They're really that inexpensive. If you go to the Honda dealership to find replacements they'll be a whole lot more.
Reliable, fun and fuel efficient!
I won't part with my Del Sol. I really should get a car that seats more than just 2 people, but it's so much fun to drive, so reliable and so cheap to fill with gas that I plan to keep it forever. I've seen them around and everyone I've met with a Del Sol loves it! It's really easy to trick them out too!
Not a Sports Car Just a Fun Car to Drive
The 1993 del sol S (1.5 Liter) is not a muscle car; not a sports car but just about as near a sports car that you can own that is fun to drive. It is reliable and very economical. Many youngsters like to obtain this car to put a larger motor in it or you can lighten it up quite a bit by taking some things off/out of it to make it perform even better. However, I use it for work each day and have no inclination to do such drastic modifications. Expect exceptional gas mileage (29 mpg around town and 39 mpg on the highway) and performance in stock condition is impressive so long as you properly maintain it with regular oil/filter changes and other recommended maintenance.
1993 Honda Civic del sol S [1.5 Liter]
Very reliable; very quick for engine size; very economical for performance. Most reliable automobile that I have ever owned regardless of other medium to minor discomforts such as: Targa style roof and non-gutter windows encourage leaks. Not a true sports car; not a muscle car but a very fun car to own and drive. If maintained properly expect 29+ miles per gallon around town and 39+ miles per gallon on the highway [without air- conditioning on]. Expect top speed to be no more than around 113 miles per hour [except for downhill] but 40 to 90 mph passing speed to be exceptional. Be sure to have a prepurchase inspection made by a reputable mechanic. Good Luck!
Fun, very reliable, gas saver!
This car drives great, never had a problem with it. Excellent on gas, highway mpg average realistically is 30-33mpg. I wish I had the vtec though in it. Roof rattles a lot! Leaks water bad too around where the roof, window, and windshield frame joins. I love this car though and only regret about buying it is I can't carry as much with me anymore as I used to with a SUV but no worries. Has a huge trunk even with a 10" bazooka tube sub back there. Highly recommended car.
Cool Car
With gas prices as they are, this car is a must have! I get average 36 mpg in the city but maintenance is kept up and tires are rotated every other oil change. With a vehicle this old parts do need replacement so I've probably paid twice what the blue book says it's worth yet, I won't part with it. My vehicle has a severe oil leak when driven at a high rate of speed (over 85) for a long period of time so I no longer trust her for traveling.
Awsome Car
Well over 100K miles and still performes. Is a great car!
My Car
I just wanted to say that i love my car. I used to drive a camero and i prefer my del sol over it anyday. If you would happen to come across one and are looking for a fun, small, and reliable car. This is a really good one to go for, just as long as you like having 2 seats.
i luv it
this car fits my current lifestyle needs... 2 seater, targa top... fun to drive... i love the rear window.. great on gas... and it's absolutely adorable... only one issue... im def not a racer, but they dont call it del sloooow for nothing... oh... and it rattles... overall... im in love with my car... bought it at 100k, and it still runs great... i dont forsee any problems for a long time... i researched it alot before i bought it and i am extremely happy... def recommended
93 Red Honda Del Sol SI
Bought new in March of 1993. Fun, economical and reliable! 30 years old and like new. Great second car! Have 90k on the odometer and is like new! Did have valve cover gaskets and left front axle replaced and valve adjustments just recently. Pretty minimal maintenance. Very pleased with it. Had it appraised as a classic so full coverage for $9000 valuation resulting in a insurance rate of a small fraction of what it was with normal rates which would have only valued it at $2500 or less. Update: 2025 still like new and have had no issues! Great car!

the best car i've ever had
The del Sol is the perfect car: fun in the summer with the roof off, warm and relible in the winter with front wheel drive. Sadest day: car smashed to bits by a hideous Ford Bronco.
93 Civic DS
Great ride, but don't even think about using it in winter! Can you say "iceskate". But overall this car rides like its on rails!
the best car you can have
this is my favorite car that i have ever owned it drives well and has good gas milage.
