2017 Accord Hybrid Meets Expectations

2017 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I’ve had my EX-L for a week and it has lived up to its rave reviews. Its technological advances make a plug-in hybrid moot or obsolete, especially the improved hybrid drive system. It is succinctly superior to the two Civic Hybrids we have been driving since 2006. This car is well made, comfortable, nicely appointed, fairly quiet, responsive and overall pleasant to drive. I never thought I’d buy another Honda because its dealers are so difficult to deal with on warranty claims, but this car is worth that risk. The safety features including Lane Departure and Collision mitigation are welcomed by two seniors whose driving skills are diminishing. This car makes driving safer for us, plus it has many convenient features like automatic locking, resetting trip odometer on fill-ups, extensive voice control, smartphone integration, etc. (which are more or less found in comparable new cars, but nonetheless pretty cool). Mileage is true to its estimate with 46-48 easily obtained and you can get 50 if you are careful, especially in city driving. My only criticisms are no driver’s side blind spot indicator and the collision mitigation does not bring the car to a complete stop in an emergency. Having said all these nice things about the 2017 Accord Hybrid, we still preferred the updated Toyota Prius Touring model because of higher mpg, more safety features, quieter driving with better handling, and $4500 lower price, but we disqualified that car because the rear window was small and obstructed by a spoiler. UPDATE 2/18/2017. After 16,000 miles of Wisconsin driving, my review is the same. I can also offer some explanation for the lower than expected mpg reported by some reviewers. The two primary reasons drivers don't get 45-52 mpg are bad driving habits and winterized gasoline. This car, like other hybrids, is sensitive to fast starting and late braking, which will significantly reduce mpg. Using the visual cues on the dash for maintaining high driving efficiency helps a lot. Winterized gasoline has 10-15% less energy, so you will get a significant dropoff with any car. Other facets of winter driving have a lesser but noticeable effect, like wet and icy roads and greater battery usage for heating. Still, these factors also apply to non-hybrids, so you are still much better off with this car and so is the environment. Update 2/21/2018. Still think it is a great car at 52,000 miles. Took a road trip along Route 66 last summer and routinely got over 50 mpg under ideal conditions. This winter the mpg went under 40 mpg when it was frigid and snowy. Also, replaced original rolling resistance tires at 50,000 miles with ones better suited to ice and snow, but that contributed to lower mpg as a tradeoff. Update 8/24/2018. Still a great car at 71,000 miles. No falloff in performance. Update 2/24/2019. 84,000 miles. Same as above.

We traded in our 2014 Accord Hybrid for the new 2017 version. We have owned the car for 6 months, during which we have driven about 6,500 miles. We were very happy with the 2014 model but wanted to benefit from the enhancements in the newer car: active lane control, parking sensors, increased horsepower, improved navigation system, Apple CarPlay, heated rear seats, larger trunk, automatic braking, quieter interior, and built-in Apple Siri. Even though the new model has more horsepower, the fuel economy is slightly better, especially in stop and go driving. We get about 580 to 650 miles on a tank of gas. Average economy per fill-up has ranged from 43 to 51MPG in mixed city/highway driving. We were able to buy this car at dealer invoice, I assume because low gas prices may be limiting the demand for hybrids.

This car is great. I traded my 2015 touring in for the touring hybrid and the change is dramatically better. The technology advancements are amazing. I was looking at the hybrids back in 2014/15, but was not impressed. Honda took a year off to relocate production and redesign and they hit a home run. Actually seeing 45-48 MPG and I'm not exactly easy on the throttle. I know its a hybrid, but I still need to see what it can do and it does impress. Yes guys... it'll bark the tires. Couple of things that I have to get used to 1. ECVT- getting used to not feeling gears shift. Plus is it is so smooth when accelerating you lose track of speed. 2. Rear seat does not fold down. Not a huge deal, but still. 3. The warranty. I don't understand the 3yr/36000... almost all manufactures almost double this. Finally.. the biggest and it was almost a deal breaker... no spare tire. Come on Honda. We are paying a premium for the vehicle and you give me an electric pump and a tube of slime. Borderline ridiculous.

The Honda Unicorn

To get the best MPG out of this car, just drive it normally as you would any other car. I'm averaging 46.5 per the computer over the first 2300 miles, but going by my gas fill ups, i'm getting 48.0 MPG driving around in Orange County with a 70/30 highway/city mix. Over my 60 mile daily commute, I've seen a best of ~ 63 MPG in slow I-5 traffic and a worst of 41 MPG driving on the 133/241 toll roads through the mountains, low 50s are very common. It can average ~60 MPG if driven at 55 - 60 mph over mostly flat, smooth roads. Bumpy/rough roads seem to lower the mileage significantly. ECON mode also lowers MPG, yes lowers! The power delivery is strong and linear, car is very responsive (esp in Sport mode) the car is also very quiet on the highway (except when going uphill) with hardly any wind/tire noise. Handling is crisp, nimble and secure for my driving style, ride is comfortable but slightly on the stiff side - the chassis has a solid, well integrated feel. Braking feels a tiny bit weaker than my excellent 2016 CR-V but very normal. To maximize engine efficiency Honda seems to have cleverly programmed it to rev the engine up/down constantly instead of keeping it a steady light load (bad for efficiency) - whenever the engine runs it's mostly under higher-loads and wider throttle - any excess energy is stored in the battery for later use when cruising. Also they smartly use battery power to cruise rather than accelerate - that way the battery energy logs more miles - the engine does the acceleration duties because it can do so with higher efficiency. Therefore, to maximize MPG, I accelerate to cruising speed quickly using the engine and then stay in EV while cruising. I've seen better MPG if I climb uphill stretches briskly spending the battery and then coast downhill to recover the energy. The AC controls are very frustrating - no knobs, no touch bumps - so you have to take your eyes off the road to set fan speed or vent direction (a very inconsiderate design decision by Honda's engineers), also the vent direction control display scrolls from right to left as you keep pressing the button, instead of left to right as you'd intuitively expect it (again thoughtless decision by Honda's engineers). This is my only negative so far. I am very happy with this car. Oh and yes the trip computer consistently underestimates MPG by ~ 1.3 which was pleasantly surprising.

I rarely write reviews of anything I buy so for me to write this review really says something. I have had my Accord Hybrid EXL for 6 weeks and so far I love it. I commute 50 miles round trip per day in stop and go traffic. I absolutely hated driving but now I (almost) look forward to it! The leather interior looks great and is very comfortable. The bluetooth feature and is my favorite. The car's exterior design is very cool and sleek. The ride is extremely quiet and the gas mileage is great. I am actually surprised from other reviews that others are averaging less than advertised. From my calculations I am getting 48-49 mpg, but I do drive less aggressively than I used to and keep it on the ECO setting all of the time, so that could make a difference for some people. Before I bought this car, I did a great deal of research. Based on my needs, it is the perfect car for me. I can't say enough good things about it. If you are in the market for a hybrid I highly recommend this car.

2017 Accord Hybrid Touring

Had looked into hybrids for a while and am glad I held out for the accord hybrid. I have had the car for 2 weeks and am averaging 46 mpg with a 42 mile commute 1 way. One day last week I pulled a 53 mpg trip. Hybrid expense wise: I purchased the trim level I would have purchased had it not been a hybrid, which is similarly priced with a non hybrid accord. I traded in a RAM 1500 that was getting 18 mpg. The only con is the radio controls: not very intuitive on changing the source through the screen when you have the iPhone connected. Maybe that is intentional so you use a steering wheel thumb with eyes on the road instead of staring at the radio for sources. Honda Sensing takes some getting used to. I shut the lane mitigation off after about 50 miles. 6 Month Review: Still an outstanding vehicle!! Parking lots are fun when you can make the average trip mileage go up to 199.9. I turned the lane mitigation features back on after I was used to driving the car. It took a little getting used to the corrective vibration and mini-torque on the wheel but now I am used to it. It is a good commuter car but a little questionable as a family car, at least with 2 kids still in booster seats and 1 kid sitting in between them. The weight sensor in the trunk is a little odd if your backpack is your office and the seats in the car are full.

It's near perfect. I'm new to Hybrids/EV and almost got the Chevy Volt...but this 2017 is SO spacious and gorgeous. I have the fully loaded touring and the LED lights make a beautiful statement. The car accelerates wonderfully, and it is a very stable drive with great turning radius for its size. I'm not 100% in love with the touch screen/navigation because it can be slow at times, but it's not bad. The interior is luxurious and I love that the backseat is just as nice as the front in terms of comfort and space. The exterior chrome accents and wheels are very nice, and the general shape of the hybrid is sporty but elegant, and I highly recommend you get black! :) mileage is great, especially for those work commutes involving traffic (quality EV time). GET THIS CAR, you won't regret it.

Quiet ride and great gas mileage

The 2017 Accord Hybrid EX-L is my first hybrid car. The average gas mileage has been great overall. Travelling at 65-75 MPH tends to result in 39-42 MPG during summer weather, and 35-40 during below freezing weather. Travelling at 25-50 MPH tends to result in 49-55 MPG during summer weather, and 43-46 MPG during below freezing weather. Gas mileage is definitely lower when the engine is cold, so a second trip half an hour after the first will result in much better gas mileage than the first one. My overall average mileage (50% highway speeds, 50% side road speeds) has been 48-52 MPG during summer tankfulls, and 39-43 MPG for winter tankfulls (driving in 9-16 F degree weather). This car is QUIET when operating on battery only - wow! Cool! I had more wind noise than I expected initially, but after the dealership made a repair based on a Technical Service Bulletin (adding some sealant around the driver's window gasket), wind noise is now noticeable on the highway only on decidedly windy days. This car offers a very quiet ride for most driving, but when going up a steep section of hill the engine noise will be noticeable. It disappears completely after cresting most hills, when either the RPM go down a lot or the engine is shut off completely while the car runs on battery for a while. Good ride, nice handling, good acceleration in Sport mode, excellent gas mileage, comfortable, and controls similar to other Honda models. Some quality control issues: - our car had an intermittent annoying rattle (like a bolt vibrating on a hard plastic tray) somewhere around the steering wheel that only happened on rough pavement at highway speeds. It turned out to be the airbag screws in the steering wheel - but it required many months to find. - the driver's seat can squeak annoyingly, apparently due to a loose clip that holds the seat covering on. The dealership fixed this once, and the squeak went away, but came back a month later and had to be fixed again. The Lane Keeping Assist System is cool, but it tends to "snake" a bit within a lane and does not necessarily drive the same path I would, so I don't use it. The collision-avoidance warning system is annoying, with many false alarms (someone in the oncoming lane in a turn to my right) - in addition to a few very valid ones (someone turning right from my lane who slows down a lot and will be close to my right front bumper when I pass them). You just have to get used to the false alarms. The Adaptive Cruise Control is great - slowing down when the car in front of you slows down on the highway. This is a VAST improvement over the traditional cruise control that I have been used to for the past 30 years. Trunk space is a bit smaller than other Accords to make room for the battery, but has been fine for our needs so far. We have been able to fit a walker and a travel wheelchair in the back at the same time (barely). The car comes with a battery-powered tire inflator instead of a spare tire (to save weight and cost?), which seems to concern some reviewers - but does not bother us. The car IS fun to drive, and we love the gas mileage and correspondingly lower global warming emissions. Our passengers remark on how quiet the car and ride are.

Worth the Wait for those sold on Hybrids

** Update after yer 2 - Still love this car and it is still the best car I have owned. Experienced a few minor issues but overall still very good. Too bad this is the only year that featured 2 LCD screens as I love this feature but 2018 modified the console and included only 1 screen and changed the air vent layout. **Update after 1 year - still enjoying the vehicle and after a year of combined highway and city driving, looks like 43 MPG is about average. In the city at 20-50 MPH stop and go, you can easily get 49 or 50 MPG but on the highway over 70 brings you back to reality. With all factors combines, this is still the best car I have ever owned. I was new to hybrids in 2013 and purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and loved that vehicle right off the bat and was sold on hybrids. With that car I averaged 38 mpg on the highway and was thrilled that I could go over 500 miles before having to fill up. The argument at the time was the hybrid cost more and based on mpg, it would take you X years to break even. While this might be a logical value/$ spent thought, I for one loved the fact that I was doing my part to help with the ecology and consuming less gas which made me feel good and I was sold. While I loved this first hybrid, I was keeping an eye out for Honda's latest model waiting the entire 2016 model year for the 2017's which have just begun arriving at dealerships as I am a long time Honda fan ( have owned 4 or 5 Honda vehicles). From a "regular guy" point of view, there is almost nothing about this car I do like like from the fantastic mpg to the great audio system to elegant interior. So far I am averaging 46 mpg combined and an thrilled to see my driving range to empty is about 700 miles. The mpg highway is an interesting number as it never states at what speed was the mpg highway determined. On a recent trip, I set the cruise to 70 mph on mostly straight roads and after 2 hours of driving, the mpg was listed as 42 mpg. I suspect if I drove 65 mph or 60 mph, the mpg might have gotten closer to the published rate but who would drive that speed :-). The only issue I noticed is with Apple Car Play which acts strange at times with accepting phone calls and instances in which there seems to be a software tug of war between Honda car software and Apple as to which product should control a feature. When I do have an issue, rebooting the phone does nothing and it requires me to turn off the car then retry which corrects the problem. The car is very very well built and feels more like a Lexus than a hybrid sedan. As I have only had the car for 4 days, barring something totally out of the blue and unexpected, I would highly recommend purchasing this vehicle and forget the extra cost/how many years to recoup argument and enjoy the ride! (Update 7/26/16) - Resolved the carplay issue as being caused by using both Carplay and Bluetooth at the same time - use one or the other but not both together. On another note, I achieved 50.8 mpg in the city by driving with caution and playing with the gas pedal as Hybrid owners will understand what I am referring to. I am not up to 44 mpg combined over 6 days.

Experienced hybrid owner

This is my second hybrid vehicle. I still own a 2012 Camry XLE Hybrid which I love. I have owned this Honda Accord Hybrid touring for about a month now and have thus far had a very positive experience with it. I purchased the vehicle with 5800 miles on it from a reputable dealer and have put about 2000 miles on the vehicle on all kinds of roads (rural and highway). It performs well on dry as well as wet and icy roads. The ride is very smooth and comfortable although not as quiet as the Camry, but still very acceptable. Both my wife and I are in our 70's and even though the Accord is a "sportier" riding vehicle in both performance and appearance compared to the Camry... we still enjoy this vehicle very much. It is tighter on turns then our Camry and responds quicker when turning especially at high speeds. The Camry does give a smoother, quieter and "heavier" ride. I did read about a few criticisms of this vehicle before buying.... The enhanced cruise control which was described as not responding back to original settings "quick enough" I find not a problem at all. The vehicle slows down automatically as it starts to get too close to the vehicle in front of you... then slowly regains speed to the set speed. This definitely conserves fuel and you can always just accelerate yourself and then reset the cruise control if you like. Another complaint involved "not having a volume or tuning knob" for the radio system. The touch screen controls or steering wheel controls work as well for me. Lastly, the enhanced safety features (lane warning, collision warning, etc) are no problem. If you find them annoying or too sensitive... just turn them off. Gas mileage is very good. If you drive the vehicle to accommodate its hybrid capability it will average an overall 42+ mpg. I have even driven at 52mpg at times. I haven't owned the car long enough to rate reliability or maintenance/repair issues. Overall I'm thinking I will like this vehicle as much as my 6 year old Camry... I hope it does as well.

2 Year Anniversary

Today is the 2 year anniversary of my 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring, color Blue Sky (a real beaut). I have rolled up about 43,000 miles over these 2 years. This is my 5th Accord in a row and 3rd new one in a row, 1st Hybrid. Overall, extremely satisfied. Likes: very attractive inside and out, leather is very comfy, handling exceptional, side view camera when moving one lane to the right when using the turn signal shows up on the dashboard screen and gives a view from the side mirror all the way beyond the right rear bumper, giving a complete view of any blind spot, very good AC and heat, Michelin tires have only worn about 25% (still have 8/32” left). One downside: Infotainment system, especially voice activation, was very unreliable. Then, in the last moth or so, it has pretty much cleared up. I have not changed the way I use the system, so I have no explanation for this. Now very satisfied...I’d like to address 3 things that others have complained about: 1) Getting in and out is difficult and driving position is low. The solution is to raise the seat height, as far as it will go, using the middle seat adjustment bar on the left side of the seat. This also gives a better view of the road. Using the same bar, the butt part of the seat can be tilted forwards and backwards to optimize your seating position; 2) Stated Miles Per Gallon not accurate. Let’s keep in mind one thing: The manufacturer does not set these ratings, the EPA does, and they do it for all makes and models. How they derive these ratings is unknown. I’m not defending American Honda on this but, as far as anyone knows, they simply take what the EPA provides and puts it on the window sticker. 3) Performance (acceleration). If you find this to be sluggish, simply hit the “Sport” mode button next to the shift lever, and your little Hybrid will take off like a performance sports car. This will cut down on fuel economy but for the short time that you need a burst it is well worth it. It’s a different vehicle in Sport mode...Happy Motoring. 👋

Disappointing Honda reliability

Good performance overall. Average gas mileage during summer was 45 MPG while in winter went down to 39 MPG. Front display panel went dark around 42k leaving time, radio stations, gas mileage, reverse and side cameras, Bluetooth functions all disabled hence compromising safety. Honda refuses to fix saying 36 month warranty has expired. Probably the last Honda I will own.

2017 Hybrid loss of gasoline engine/error messages

Honda Hybrid with 1,350 miles on it broke down in a highway intersection and it was at the dealer for repair for 18 days. Honda provided a rental car. The battery control module and the trunk battery pack have been replaced. The hybrid gasoline engine died in an intersection, multiple error messages appeared on the dashboard display, and it only operated in the electric mode enabling me to drive it to the dealer. Calls into Honda by the dealer resulted in Honda shipping a new battery control module and a new battery pack to the dealer for installation. Car returned to owner and appears to be repaired. Found this recall notice for 2014-2015 Hybrid Hondas: (National Highway Traffic safety Administration, recall notice JT7) "Electrical interference may cause the hybrid system to switch into fail-safe mode, disabling the gasoline engine, limiting the vehicle's speed to 40 miles per hour and [causing] the [hybrid] to function only on battery power." Which is what happened to me. Gave the recall notice to the dealer. In the former recall, new software was developed and downloaded to the dealers and used in the 2014-15 recall. No problems since this repair.

Great, but not a good choice for highway driving

I bought my 2017 Hybrid Touring in September 2016. I chose the Hybrid over the standard Touring model based solely on gas mileage due to my relatively long daily commute (~100 mi each way). My commute is almost all on Interstate 71 between Cincinnati, OH and Columbus, OH at speeds averaging around 70MPH. The car has been 100% reliable and makes for a comfortable place to spend 1.5 hours each morning and afternoon with Apple Carplay and a super comfortable driver's seat. The radio sound quality is not great, but the car is super quiet at speed and relatively stable on the highway. Handling is typical Accord, and acceleration is surprisingly good (at least with the Sport mode engaged). There is, however, a pretty big delay in power being delivered once you stop on the accelerator in the normal drive mode. The biggest disappointment by far has been the mileage on the highway. In town, it is easy to meet or exceed EPA mileage estimates, but I have not been able to even come close to the EPA numbers on the highway at normal speeds. In town I regularly see mileage around 50MPG give or take. As far as highway mileage is concerned, my daily commute is relatively flat but the car does not like real world highway speeds and is also very sensitive to outside air temperatures. After more than 60K of driving, my mileage (95% highway) in warm/hot weather has been averaging around 42 MPG. In cold weather it is even worse and ends up closer to 37 MPG. Like any Li-ion battery-powered vehicle, cold weather seems to really sap capacity from the battery and results in a big hit on mileage. Other than the mileage, my main areas of disappointment have been the small and ugly (17") wheels, the mediocre sound quality of the radio, the lack of a digital speedometer, and a 1-2 MPH speedometer error. I'm not sure if the speedometer error is common, buy mine displays an indicated speed of roughly 1-2 MPH below the speed I'm actually traveling (based on GPS and other traffic). One other item to note is the fuel capacity is actually well over 16 gallons on this car. I have found that I can top off my tank with more than 16 gallons of gas even when the tank is not totally empty. This has helped me to keep my overall range up despite the disappointing highway mileage. Overall, it's a super reliable and super comfortable car that does a great job of delivering fantastic city mileage in a package that is just as easy to live with as a non-hybrid Accord. I've now sold the Accord and replaced it with a Tesla Model 3 Performance which has been a great step up after getting used to many of the nuances of EV driving with the Accord.

We purchased the car new in August of 2016. Since then we have logged 18000 miles at an average of 42 mpg. The only feature we don't really like, but are willing to put up with to get the engine/power train we wanted, is the lack of rear fold down seats, which I believe is "fixed" on the 2018 models. On hard acceleration the engine makes itself known but with normal driving one hardly knows it is there. Using Apple Car Play to get the navigation system is a bit awkward but worth it given the expense of the built in system. We really would prefer knobs to the touch screen. Last July while driving to Boise our sunroof exploded for no reason. We were lucky to have the inner shade closed so we werent showered with broken glass. Overall we are pleased with the car and hope that the innovative power train design proves to be as reliable as the one used by Toyota. It is difficult to understand why one doesn't see more Hybrid Accords on the road? If I were buying again I would also consider a hybrid Camry.

Comfortable Roomy with Fantastic fuel economy

Comfort, reliability and fuel economy are my main concerns. So when I shopped for a new car that's what I looked for. After owning 2 Hondas and 2 Acuras which were bullet proof I leaned towards Honda. I decided on the 2017 Accord hybrid and bought it new. Since then I've taken it on several long trips. Many cars after 3 to 4 hours leave you fatigued and usually an achy back. It has ample leg room and the steering wheel telescopes which lets you adjust the ergonomics exactly to your liking. This Accord has been the most comfortable car since I drove a Cadillac back in the 90s and those are renowned for being comfortable. The advertised mileage is 49/50. I'm not there yet but over the course of 6 months I'm averaging 41.3 city/hwy combined. About 80% of my driving is city. For a car that sits 5 and 4 comfortably this is amazing. My previous '03 Acura TL only averaged 16 mpg. The car uses a 4 cylinder engine assisted by two electric motors which give it extra boost during acceleration and give it great mileage. Their is some unwanted engine noise under hard acceleration but then this isn't a Lexus. Visibility all around is excellent and so is the backup camera. My only gripe with the car are the radio controls. I would prefer the old style dial buttons for volume and tuning. Lastly because gas is relatively cheap many people aren't interested in hybrids now which gives the buyer an advantage. I paid 28K plus tax.

I've had this car for just over 3 weeks and have gone about 1000 miles. Still only on the second tank of (regular) gas. I'm not sure why some people say they're not getting good mileage. Car is rated at 48 average and driving normally in stop-go traffic to work I get about 56 mpg. That's about 40% of my 26 mile trip (one-way) at freeway speeds. It appears that the system has 3 modes when you watch the mpg chart. That is: about 19, 38 and 80+ mpg. Looks like it correlates to the three driving modes. It prefers hybrid drive or engine only drive unless you play the system to stay in EV mode as long as possible. If you accelerate its hard to stay in EV mode. Once you're up to speed, let up on the accelerator and it switches into EV mode and stays there to cruise for a long time at 80+ mpg. I've done round trips of 61.7 mpg average! And I did this without pissing off people behind me. Also EV mode doesn't turn on when the gas engine is cold. Use the ACC and the car stays in EV mode longer too. People complain about slow acceleration which is sometimes true but I think it's because the system is conservative and waits till the car in front moves away. Just press the accelerator if you need to; it's like pressing the brakes when you need to also. Only concern I have is that I noticed a lot of body parts are bolted or attached in a way that water builds up in the cracks when I was it. Makes me wonder if that'll turn out to be a rusting problem later. Otherwise, the ride is great, comfortable and very stylish. Way better than the alternatives we looked at.

Great car! My only complaints are: Lane departure doesn't seem to read properly so I turned it off. Went off constantly when I was well within my lane. Chalk it up to buggy new tech perhaps. The "brake" warning feature is nearly as unreliable. Interior engine noise during acceleration is a bit loud. The audio touchscreen buttons are a tad small, making touching accurately while driving a bit tedious. That said, excellent gas mileage coupled with plenty of power. Very well appointed vehicle. Only 2 months in and very happy thus far.

First off, do your research. While this is a great car for us, it may not be what you are looking for, as all hybrids are not created equal. Also, don't be afraid to take your research and whip it out during the negotiation. With that being said, this car has met or exceeded everything we were looking for in a vehicle. My wife drives 92 miles round trip to and from work daily, so our number one priority was excellent mileage wrapped in a comfortable, entertaining, package. We had a 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, and my wife really tried to like that car, but after the last repair; replacing a $28 A/C sensor which was located behind the dash, so $925 in labor, she cried uncle. She has been driving the car for a month now and she actually looks forward to her daily commute. We looked at the Mazda 6, which is also a great car, plus has the looks, but the hybrids mileage made this a no-brainer. The seats are comfortable, the interior is well put together, and for us trunk space is fine. On short trips around town, this thing gets 48 mpg easy, and just checking the odometer my wife is averaging 43.5 mpg, and between us, she is what you would call an aggressive driver(wink, wink). Get this car, you will never regret it.

I wasn't planning to buy an Accord Hybrid sedan. I was deciding between a 2018 Sport or EX, and casually inquired about the price of a Hybrid. To my shock, a 2017 EX-L Hybrid was only $26,500, about the same as a new Sport and and $750 less than a new EX. That price is at least $6000 off sticker price, so it was a deal too good to pass up. I've owned a 2007 Civic Hybrid and a 2014 Toyota Prius, so hybrids are not new to me. I bought the car without too much analysis up-front, but have studied it more after buying it two weeks ago and putting about 900 miles on it. From an gas-electronic analysis, the transition between electric and gas motors are seamless. You can tell by sound which motors are invoked, but the car doesn't jerk when switching modes. Other than the information display indicating which motor(s) are active, you might not even know. I tested the car through one tank without Eco Mode on and got about 45 mpg in mixed driving. Within Eco Mode on, I'm getting 48 or better in cool to cold weather. The digital dash displays take a little training to understand what all the icons and bar indicators mean, but that plays into a hybrid owners love of such a car (more on this in a minute). This redesigned hybrid for 2017 has a combined 212 horsepower, and combined with a midsize car, you won't believe you can get the stated 48/47 mpg until you see it for yourself. Those Honda engineers have really outdone themselves. The Sport mode is extra peppy and a nice treat for revving the engine up for acceleration. The eCVT transmission still doesn't jerk between gear ratios for a really smooth ride. I traded in a 2015 Accord EX for this hybrid and can tell definite improvement in the suspension and steering between this 2017 and my 2015. The leather interior is black, my first ever black interior. I'm loving the heated seats in cold weather. Not sure how I'll like them in summer when it's 100 degrees in the cabin after sitting in the sun, but the seats have ventilation holes that might make them a bit less scorching. I'll report on the summer comfort of black leather at a later date. The dual video screens take a bit getting used to. The EX-L has Apple Play integration which I love. With that said, it's a bit finicky to work with. I've had a podcast app go quiet through the system after shutting the car off and trying to resume the same podcast later after reconnecting the phone. The navigation of the video screen is not intuitive, but you will learn the main menu paths pretty quickly. I know which options I'll be picking most often, so the lack of intuitiveness is not a show stopper. The touch volume control is not preferred over a physical knob, but I can live with it and the steering controls. The XM radio is a welcome addition, but still deciding if I'll continue to subscribe after the trial. With the 2017 hybrid, you lose the fold-down seat capability compared to the gas Accord, so that's a small drawback. The car feels very solid and well-built. Time will tell how the mechanicals hold up over the long haul, but I have a good feeling that it will be reliable. Some other reviewers have complained about Hybrid reliability and have had many issues with the systems. With my two previous hybrids I did not ever have mechanical failures of the hybrid technology or gas engine components. I will update my experience with the car as I drive it further. The Eco Score on the MIDI is nice, but a little hard to figure out until you read the owner's manual; it is both a current drive and lifetime score of hybrid efficiency. As far as all the information provided for gas mileage rankings and driver information, I'll say that I'm the perfect type of owner for a hybrid because I like playing the game of getting the best possible gas mileage in a car. Many drivers might be happy just to get 150% better mpg than a gas equivalent model, but I think a lot of hybrid owners like the challenge of driving for ideal gas mileage with every tankful. It's a game of sorts, and the numerous gauges and measures keep the driving informed of their success if squeezing every drop out of the gas tank. Range on a tank of gas is around 700 miles, so you'll be spending a lot less time at the gas pump with this car. Very happy with my impulse purchase! Update December 2019: After two years of ownership and 25,000 miles, I am still just as happy with this car as the day I bought it. No mechanical issues, gas mileage averages 42 mpg in winter, 53 mpg in summer. Gas range on a tank is 650-725 miles, although I could squeak a little more out if I tried. Love the amenities like Apple Car Play and two video screens for info. The 2020’s look great and have a full trunk. The 2017's only real drawback in a small trunk and no fold down seats.

Having had this car for almost 3 1/2 years, and driven it almost 60,000 miles, I think I'm pretty qualified to give the '17 Accord Hybrid Ex-l a decent review. First off, it's been very reliable, with no downtime in the shop for other than regular maintenance. Mileage has been a little under 40 mpg, and I drive generally faster than average. The car still looks attractive, and I generally enjoy driving the car. It's fun on twisting roads with the instant torque from the hybrid, and it's quick, not super fast, but probably somewhat under 7 seconds 0-60. Two main downsides are the trunk, which is smaller than the standard Accord, but not too small. The 2nd issue is the entertainment system. It works decently, but overall, it's not really intuitive but once you're used to it, it's ok. The sound system on the ex-l is good. Would I buy it again? I don't know. I like the torque and quickness, but I would like something either a little more luxurious like the Lexus Es hybrid or sporty, like the BMW 3 or comparable, which were some of the cars I looked at prior to purchasing the Accord. Maybe full electric on the next go-round.

We have owned many types of cars over the years from VW, Mazda, Suzuki, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Chrysler, Dodge, & Porsche (and two other Honda's) and this 2017 Honda Accord EX-L Hybrid is one of the best. The exterior & interior are stylish and the fit and finish is impressive. The leather seats are comfortable and very easy to adjust and we use the two pre-set positions. While the front seats are roomy the rear seats are quite large for a mid size car. Visibility is excellent all around. The trunk is still large enough even with the battery. The car is well built and handles the road well. Since we keep our car purchases for a long time the hybrid low fuel use was an important point. But, the hybrid engine system still has plenty of power to merge, climb hills and generally moves the car quickly with great acceleration. I have to get used to how quiet the car is while in Electric Vehicle mode and twice I have forgotten to turn it off after parking! When starting the car (especially noticeable in the garage) it makes this cool Star Trek like sound while in the electric mode. The Honda Sensing safety system works well but needs a few technology improvements, which will probably occur as the technology evolves. I already found these features to be a great safety help. The info/entertainment system could be easier to use and I understand the new 2018 model has been improved. The wife loathes car dealers so I do the shopping and test driving. I told her she needed to drive the new car and she said "if you like it them I will". Lol - I brought it home and she loves the car. The folks at Smail Honda in Greensburg, PA were extremely helpful and I got an excellent price at almost $7,000 off sticker. We are two drivers with three cars (the Porsche will go into storage for the winter soon) so we have only put on 600 miles since purchase one month ago but so far it's a great car. Update - care is now three years old and has 26,000 miles on it. Absolutely no problems with the car. Very comfortable for both around town driving and multi- state trips. Update- now we have had the car 3 years and 7 months but with only 31,000 miles on it. The miles have been reduced due to the pandemic, but we did take it to Florida (from PA) in February and it drove extremely well. Absolutely no problems with this car. Update - It is now November '22 and after 5 years and 44,000 miles we have had no problems with this car. I get the oil changed each year when state inspected & last year I purchased a new set of tires because the original set did not pass inspection. I did receive a small refund from Michelin because the tires wore out early. Probably due to the poor roads and hills here in western PA. We also get about 40 MPG (not what I expected) - probably again due to the hills etc.... I would purchase this car again. Update (November 2023), The car is now 6 years and one month old (purchased October 2017) it only has 51,500 miles because we are both now retired and it sits in the garage some days. Still looks good and rides/drive great. We will keep it. It is now November 2024 and the car only has 57,000 miles on it and drives like new! It has the original battery (starts the car) but I will change it soon. Starts well for a 7 year battery, but do not want to test fate !! Maybe because it is parked in the garage?

ONE YEAR UPDATE: Still love the car. 45MPG for 13K miles since I bought it. Highway is still around 38-40, colder temps make the mileage decrease as the motor has to run for heat. But the car is still amazing. Two screens provide all the data you need or can imagine. This model is selling for at least 5K more than I paid due to high gas prices, with higher miles on them. Car rides well at all speeds. Travels well on the highway and is quiet at all speeds especially when in EV mode. No spare. but use the dead space for plugging kit, tools and Ryobi portable air compressor. Have not had to use them. Battery died at 31K miles, AAA replaced it for 140 bucks, delivered and installed. Honda battery good for about 5 years, plan for it. No other issues. Would certainly buy it again. UPDATE: Owned the car for about 6 months now. Averaging 44 MPG since the purchase, which includes several trips to NC all highway, at about 79 MPH. At expressway speeds, we get about 41MPG, but beats anything else I ever owned. Around town still have trips 50-60 MPG, depending on traffic and how I drive. Did not buy a spare as the rim fit issues for wheels with generators. Use the spare tire area to carry compressor and tool kit. Car travels well. The noise comments from previous reviews are true, but the noise is not excessive and eventually you get used to the quiet of the electric mode. With gas prices now rising under Biden, this was a GREAT purchase. The same car is selling now for 2-5K above my purchase price. Trunk space is still smaller than I would like, wish the rear seat had an opening for longer items. Would certainly buy this car again, we take it for all daily commutes and errands. Still love the two screens and they do not stick up in my field of view like many of the single screen dash designs out now. Buy it, you will love it!! Totaled my 2013 Accord EXL. Safety stuff worked as advertised, hence we decided to shop for another Accord. Stumbled over a 2017 Hybrid Touring traded at the local Lexus dealer. Given the recent increase in gas prices and the "war on oil" made me consider it, although I have always been leary of hybrid technology. Love the car. Read all reviews before we purchased. Agree with the weird lane control, not nearly as effective as our Outback with eyesight. Turned it off. Trunk is small compared to my 2013, but there are two cubbies underneath and a small one on top the batteries (15lb limit) No spare tire bugs me, carry a plug kit and ryobi compressor as well as the one provided. A blowout is a show stopper, so may opt for a donut spare. Technology is great and having owned a 2013 EXL, I love the double screens. Don't miss the volume know, always used the steering wheel controls. Mileage for the previous owner over 2000miles was 49mpg. We are getting the same over my first half tank. Car rides well as expected. Engine is a bit noisy, but if you brake early and maintain it, the regeneration keeps the battery up. Good power and as quick as my 2013. Folded the seat I'm my 2013 twice in the years I owned it. Missing this option was no big deal. Same color as my 2013, pearl white. Black interior. Shopping used, selection is limited, but white was fine. Overall really impressed. Will add IWS warranty in May when the factory expires. Technology can be expensive to repair. Wish it had the 19 inch rims, but overall very pleased with the Accord Hybrid! Great car! Drove the 2017 Camry, it was not even close in quality, ride or mpg.

Honestly, loved the car the day we bought it. Just couldn't take it anymore and got rid of it after 9 months. The good: The seats were comfortable, the lots of bells and whistles, good visibility while driving, love the lane assist and smart cruise control. The bad: gas mileage truly stunk we averaged 36.9 miles to the gallon over 19,300 miles: WAY below the advertised mileage, the trunk space is non-existent, one suitcase and one overnight bag is it, we had two warranty related issues where the back deck that holds the speakers had to be removed because it rattled like crazy and the airbag had to be removed and repacked because of an annoying rattle inside of it, the leather seats were looking terrible after 9 months, the radio and Apple Car play glitched out often, no dial on the volume was a real pain, and the engine was really loud when idling.

I went for the Accord Hybrid because I thought it looked a little snazzier and handled sportier than the conventional 4-cyl sedan. Not a burner like my old 6-cyl coupe, but fun to drive and who could argue with 49 mpg, even with cheap gas. I liked the updated electronics, with Apple Play eliminating the need for nav., the backup camera is brighter, and the assisted cruise control and lane departure prevention seemed like a good idea. After 5 months of ownership, however, I'm pretty thoroughly disappointed. The biggest letdown is the gas mileage, which despite its 49 mpg rating, averages closer to 35. The best I've ever managed, with every fuel conservation tool in use, was about 39. I understand fuel economy is always overstated, but by 28 percent?! Shame on you Edmunds, for letting Honda get away with it. In other news, the entertainment touchscreen is a hot mess. The menu hierarchies aren't intuitive and the virtual buttons are hard to hit. The volume control is either a touchy thing or the steering wheel, and there's no off switch! You can't turn off the radio. The assisted cruise control slows down so much and so far back that cars behind you start sounding horns for you to get out of the way. The lane assist and other safety features just make driving more complicated and less fun. To top it all off, the interior trim is shiny, high-gloss metal, which catches every ray of sunlight and blasts it into the driver's eyes. Even the fake would in the console is glossy and glarey--and that's with tinted windows. As for the performance, the car is fairly responsive unless you're looking for hard acceleration for passing or merging from a speed of 30-69 mph. In that range, you have to punch it into sport mode, which brings the gas engine to life with a disconcerting belch and whiny roar. The handling is extremely light when accelerating, although I'm starting to get used to that. So, in summary, I hate the car, right? Well, not exactly. It is a Honda and I like Hondas because they seem to fit me well. This one does too, even though I hit my head getting into it. It feels pretty solid and it was marked down a lot--probably due to everything I've written so far. The next generation should be amazing if they learn from all the shortcomings in this one. What are the chances?

Update 2: A year later -- I'm still very happy. MPG is a bit lower that EPA estimate -- somewhere around 44.5, maybe 45 on average. Of course, it could be my driving style and/or types of trips I make. Update: six months later I'm still very happy with the car. After the first month, I love the car. It is a family sedan, so don't expect superior sporty driving, but it is responsive, comfortable, sufficiently powerful, extremely fuel efficient. The trunk is on a small side if you compare to conventional cars, but on a large side if you compared to hybrid sedans.

We bought this car used with 20,000 miles on it, it seemed new, and we got an extended warranty. We wanted a 2017 because it had a bigger gas tank than the 2018, and so the range would be longer. And it is, but in town mostly. If we stay in town, we can get consistently over 46mpg, and one tank was 49 mpg. But on the road it is more like the mid to high 30s. We tend to drive a few mph over the speed limit, and have frequent hills to climb here in Coastal California, so that may hurt us. We loved our 2015 Accord EX-L, and the main difference between this car and that one is the excellent hybrid system, so we're even more delighted now. Update: after 20,000 miles of our own driving, we're happy to say that all the above is still true but with a big improvement. We've averaged in the low to mid 40mpg on the highway, instead of the high 30s we said above. So we've averaged 44 to 47mpg overall. Nice! Update 2: Now 40,000 of our own driving, 60,000 overall, and still very happy. No problems, or repairs, just smooth and reliable driving. Just finished our best mileage tank of gas, 730 miles! And 52mpg. Admittedly optimal conditions, average mpg still in the mid 40s.

2017 Accord Hybrid Touring just misses. Its confusing at first, but doesn't take long to get it under control. Comfort is adequate but it is sportier handling and pavement irregularities are noticed - drives superb otherwise, even fun. My biggest complaint is the fixed rear seat. The different drive modes are fun to play with at times, Sport is definitely sporty, and Econ mode is best for winter. Drives like a regular car if you forget about it. I'm averaging 45mpg mixed driving per tank, but have seen 60 around town. Everyone that gets in it for the first time is impressed, which for a Honda, is saying something. Fit and finish are what you should expect for near 40k. Sweet car, not perfect, but after 23,000 miles, no big regrets, zero mechanical issues (except the back seat doesn't fold down- a real hindrance at times.

I bought my '17 Accord Hybrid Touring, Blue Sky, on December 30, 2016. This is my 5th Accord in a row and 3rd new one in a row. Performance and comfort have been very good, but I have had persistent and recurring problems with the infotainment system since I bought the vehicle. Today's List, about half way through a 140 mile trip: Voice Recognition failed to work properly 4 times - When I asked it to call my wife, it gave 3 names of people that were nothing like my wife's; twice, after I asked voice command to call a number on my contact list, it dialed an 800 number; 5 times, when I used Voice Command and spoke a phone call request, it responded that no voice command was heard. Radio: Touch screen for volume control is inconsistent. GPS is a nightmare: It is very difficult to get details of a route, including how far it is to the next route or when the next turn is and doesn't give a tone when it is time to make these turns: also, you cannot give route changes while the car is in motion, even if given by the passenger, the car has to come to a complete stop; GPS does not update traffic conditions if there is trouble ahead or suggest alternate routes; it is very difficult to navigate between AM, FM, and Sirius XM. As you can see, I have had persistent and recurring problems with the infotainment system. They are a distraction to me while I am driving and I consider it unsafe when they persist. I purchased this vehicle because I will be traveling 520 miles 3 times a month for 8 months for medical treatments, and I wanted a reliable, pleasurable car. These distractions have seriously contributed to my dissatisfaction...Here are my experiences with trying to have this situation rectified: 4 visits to dealer where I purchased the car, 3 with 2 different salesmen and 1 with the service manager; Several phone calls with the sales and service departments; American Honda which, after having left both a voice mail and an email, took almost a week and a half to respond, only to kick me back to the dealer, where I have gone through more rounds of visits and phone calls; and then this past week, I spoke with the sales manager twice, 3 days apart, requesting that someone at the regional or national level call me about my concerns; both times he said he would call back, but he did not. Today, Tuesday, I spoke at length with the sales manager and once again expressed my concerns, since I had not heard back from him in response to my 2 calls from last week. He spent a short amount of time trying to convince me to return to the dealership once again to see if they could rectify theses problems. I stopped him after a short time and I restated that I was no longer interested in his offers. I have now made a demand that may be unreasonable, but nonetheless, I will not waver on. I am not going to divulge the name of the dealer at this time but once I have been provided a solution to this problem by the dealer or American Honda, I will share it with you.

Don't Go Away

If you leave town, the 12V battery will die while you are away and when you start the car, all lights are flashing and the horn starts beeping continuously. Was definitely not prepared for this. The Service Department will come out and charge your battery, but then advise you a trickle charger is needed ($200) plus installation, and you should plug the car in when you are away. They indicated this was a common problem when the car is not continuously driven. Nowhere in their materials is this mentioned, nor do they know how long you can be away without this occurring. This also causes the battery to wear down faster needing replacement sooner, one more additional expense. If I'd wanted a plug in, I would have gone electric. Drove a Prius for five years and never once had it serviced, plus the mileage was considerably better. Big mistake making a switch. Now we're leaving town again - who knows what to expect. Phase 2. Returned from second trip and same problem again. Car was towed to dealer and the battery was supposedly ok. Only remedy was plug in battery monitor which would make resale quite difficult. Try explaining this to a prospective buyer. Now only remedy is a lemon law lawyer. Don’t buy this car if you travel!

My brand new Hybid has been in the service center 10+ times. experience has been bought the car on Friday and returned it on Monday. Instead of 700 miles to a gas tank I got 440. I'm always using gas instead of the battery as my battery never fully charges and drains extremely quick. I have talked to the Poway Dealership (don't ever buy a car with them) who's response is "that's how its supposed to work" and will no longer do service on it as they have already replace a module for the battery and the seat warmers, speakers as they were not working either and now it has a rattle. Honda really failed with this one. Now I have to look into Lemon Laws regarding my brand new purchase. Please save your money, time and lots of headaches and do not buy this car. Also Honda America refuses to help even though the car is brand new.

Disappointed with fuel economy and service

EB, 12/30/2017

Firstly, I should say that I think the car is very comfortable and drives very well. My only concern is that I am getting very poor MPG. I did a lot of research before purchasing this car and was very excited about the MPG performance claims, which seemed to be backed up by customer reviews. I have owned the car for 3 months and am currently getting a whopping 28 MPG! I have confirmed this by calculating at the pump. Granted, it is now wintertime and I expect to lose some fuel economy, but since purchasing the car (in September), I have never broken 40 MPG. In the warmer weather I was averaging around 35 MPG in the city, maybe 37 highway. I also own a Prius (and routinely get ~45-50MPG), so I know this is not an issue with my driving technique. I spoke with Honda customer service to express my concerns and they talked about how EPA estimates are not accurate, etc. They suggested I bring it to the Honda dealership and they will evaluate the car to make sure it was working properly and suggested a fuel consumption test. I took the car to the dealership, explaining that the MPG was nowhere near what seems appropriate, and again was given some wishy-washy crap about how Honda routinely expects the cars to perform up to 22% worse than the EPA estimates (which calculates out to 36 highway/38city). They checked the computer system, found no errors, and said there was nothing wrong. I asked about the fuel economy test and they said they don't do it routinely. I called Honda customer service again and they basically had no solutions to offer other than to have the fuel consumption test done (which they only recommended after I asked about it again). Honda customer service did not seem to have an answer as to what would constitute a poor test outcome and what they would do if the test comes back saying 28MPG. The dealership said this will take 2 days to do. I am debating whether it is worth it to bring the car back in for 2 days so they can do the same pump calculation I have done and then tell me this is "within normal". Just beware that the MPG claims are not accurate. I do think the car interior is very nice and I like the rest of the vehicle, but if you're going to dish out an extra ~$6,000, you kinda want to get what you pay for (hybrid fuel economy).

The Luxury Car with Prius Gas Mileage!

This car is truly way ahead of the game. Looks amazing; and much better in person even. The ride, drive, feel is excellent. Having owned Prius & Camry Hybrid, I can tell you Honda has REALLY upped the game. The Accord Hybrid rides like a mix of the Lexus quiet/smooth with the BMW steering and road feel (a good mix of both anyway...). The tires give up long before the feeling of any lean comes in. AVERAGE MPG: we're averaging 51.4mpg with both me and my wife using this car for daily errands and running around. We do mostly city driving. Probably 80% city. Our Camry Hybrid, which, was an excellent car, averaged 38.x with both of us driving the car (I tend to get 2-3mpg better than my wife). Both run 0-60 in the 7s which is plenty quick for the once in a while time you need it. What's even better is passing. If you're merging onto the freeway, say, at 45-50mph and want to get up to 70, it gets there QUICK! Nothing like instant electric power! Everything about the drivers "area" is great. Very large, comfortable seat, plenty of head and legroom (I'm 6'3" 200lbs), the steering wheel is perfect, gauges are perfect, everything is where it should be, and with a very high quality of fit and finish. We went with black on black as it gives it a very sleek look (I always hated the tan or gray choice in the Camry Hybrid). This is the $30,440 model which we were able to buy for $25,373. An unbelievable $5,000 off MSRP. What other $25,000 car comes even close to the look, size, feel, luxury, quiet, and gas mileage? Currently none. I've owned more cars than i care to share, and this is at the top of the list of "best cars for the money i've ever driven". Even if you didn't care about the 50mpg average, this is an excellent car!

This is my 4th hybrid so I’m stranger to finding how to get most gas out of this 2017 accord. It took a while to figure out how to get the most mpg’s when I first bought my first hybrid so for anyone reading this if it’s your first hybrid give it some time you’ll learn how to get the most mpg’s. I’m getting around 42 miles combined mpg and I do step on the pedal in Los Angeles driving the car is smoother than last 3 hybrids I’ve owned and the size of this accord is bigger than most hybrids for the price they I drove off with my touring for 29k it’s a five star car.

When driving an accord , don't expect a sportiness or exhilarating ride, just look at how much you paid for it. It's a very reliable car with an excellent fuel economy (53/mpg) for my daily drive to work. I own a GTR and Miata for my fun factor and the accord can never ever be a toy car. It's very economical and a reliable drive from point A to B without much drama or fuss . Great value for money, highly recommended . If you want a fun drive, get something else.

Update June 2018 (after 1.5 years of use): reliability is great, absolutely no problems so far. Mileage is also great (50+ mpg in summer, min 42 mpg in cold season) and the electric engine gives a torque kick when car starts from a full stop - I'm usually the first to go from a stop light, without pressing the pedal hard. Honda Sensing can be annoying sometimes - I guess that's why the 'line departure warning' can be disabled by a button and the distance for auto-brake is configurable. Update Jun 2021: car is very reliable, needed only oil changes (and is due for tire changes in 2-3000 miles). Same very good mileage. No problems , mechanical or electrical. Has 40k miles.

The car is very comfortable and performs at or above expectations on highway drives. Up to 70 mph it exceeds expectations but the mpg falls off a bit above 70 mph. The electronics excel except for left lane visibility where there is no blind spot warning. The interior is very well appointed and the memory seats make sharing the driving a breeze. The mpg in winter is disappointing. While I get 50 mpg in summer, it drops to around 40 in winter. No mechanical issues to date except rain sensing wiper problem which the dealer couldn't figure out until I brought in a U Tube video.

Loved the car--the looks, the handling, and the performance. Overall the car looked classy, couple that with Honda's reputation, I thought we had a winner. However, when it came to cargo/storage space we had a problem. With the hybrid batteries located in the forward part of the trunk it made loading two sets of golf clubs and bags virtually impossible. Also, we have to carry a massage table on occasion which would not fit because the rear seat backs do not fold forward because of the hybrid batteries. I hope this helps. Hoping the new 2018 hybrid model takes some of these complaints into account.

2017 EX-L now 2 years old and at 41,414 miles. Winters in AZ we average 48 mph. This summer we are getting 46-47 per onboard computer. I drive 350 miles per week for work and it’s 35-70 mph on city streets and paved country roads. I use cruise control as much as possible. ECON mode always on and B mode is used often. AC at all times in summer too. Change oil at dealer every 10,000 miles with Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra when available. One thing we have noticed is that the engine/CVT hates elevation changes and heat. A drive from our other home in Utah to the ski resort 15 miles away and the car screams for help. Granted it is a 2,000 ft climb in 10 miles. In the AZ summer when the temps are over 110, the car is sluggish and won’t accelerate smoothly for several miles. I swear it feels like it’s starved for fuel and it lurches forward. Does it when tank is full or 1/2 full. We exclusively use Shell or Chevron. But 95% of the time it is flawless. We are happy. We have ‘12, ‘15 & ‘17 Accord EX-L’s. This is our first hybrid. Time will tell if it was worth the cost.

First and foremost, I am Honda obsessed. With the exception of my very first car when I was 16, I've only owned (and loved) Hondas. However, I'm deeply regretting my most recent purchase. I have a brand new, beautiful to look at 2017 Accord Hybrid that I HATE. It's loud, the drive is jerky and feels unstable, and does not at all feel like a Honda. I've been ressured that there is nothing technically WRONG with the car, "It's Just the way the hybrid drives". And I got better gas mileage with my 2015 Accord, though they assure me my MPG's will go way up once I hit 1000 miles or so. Either way, HUGELY disappointed with a very severe case of buyers remorse. It's going to be a very long 36 months.

Honda Accord Hybrid Poor MPG

My wife and I purchased a new 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid in late 2016. We expected to see around 40 - 48 Mpg from this car. With now over 1000 miles on this car we have managed to average 32.4 Mpg from this car. We have been driving this car as we would any other vehicle that we have owned. The car does not go into electrical mode unless you going under 20 Mph and is rarely seen at highway speeds of 65 Mph. We live in the Northern part of the United States and the Dealership is telling us that due to the cold weather and different gasoline blends used in Winter this is normal. We will be reviewing the mpg vs the pump calculation the next time that we fill up. The car looks and rides nice, but if you are looking to save money at the pump or think you are helping the environment by getting a hybrid car, stay away. My suggestion would be to buy the Accord with a 4 cylinder motor and skip the electric portion since it really serves no benefit besides taking up trunk room for the batteries that are never being used.

Easy to love this car. Wish it was available years ago when I bought an Insight which was inferior in every respect. Honda got it right on this one in all major respects. If I drove a constant 45-50mph I would be getting 50 MPG consistently but my mostly highway driving has me up in 65mph and higher most of the time. I like everything about the car other than a few minor annoyances. Easy to drive, quiet, reliable, great sound system, better styling for this model year than the 2018, which sadly looks like pieces are missing off the front of the Accord. LOL. This is my 5th hybrid--had 2 prius--too small for us tall folks, too narrow, and Toyota blamed owners for the accelerator pedal drama. No thanks. Then bought an Insight which was ok with mileage but small and cheap/tinny. Then bought a Sonata hybrid which looked nice but Hyundai lied about gas mileage and it was awful and blew up at 125K. Never again with either Toyota or Hyundai. This is my 4th Honda. Annoyances: musty smell from A/C; rear camera screen graphic takes getting used to compared to other cars; phone/stereo button is very clunky to use and switch back and forth. But those are tiny. Very happy with the car and will keep it a long time until I can afford a Tesla (if it still exists) or other all-electric that holds tall folks comfortably and has a high winter range. Until then this is fine and I got an amazing end-of-year deal/price.

Just a side note I'm 6'2 and 280lbs and fit great in the new accord.

I purchased a new 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L in August 2016 on a Friday. Took it right back to the dealer the following Monday. Here are the items that have been replaced on my new 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid in the last 6 months-battery module, seat warmers, speakers, Bluetooth and its been in the service dept over 10 times. Seat warmers didn't work and battery drained quickly. Dealership blamed American Honda and said the technology was to new that they didn't know how to fix the car. American Honda did not respond for five months. After five months Isabel the Regional Manager met with me and tried to excuse the lack of contact to a retirement. American Honda worth billions of dollars cannot afford to overlapping reps? We sat for 45 minutes of me telling everything that was wrong with the car and assured me they were going to take care of me. A month later it scheduled for me to drop off the car for the Engineer at American Honda to finally look at the car. No one checks on me although Isabel is there, no one know whats wrong with my car as she did not pass on my notes to the services center or the Engineer and the Engineer came after hours so I never got to meet with them. All I received was notes that he drove it on cruise control on the highway at 65 and it works correctly. When I call American Honda to speak to Supervisor I speak to David who is the Gatekeeper who will not give me any information on a Supervisor to report how badly this experience was. Honda's used to be good cars, but if you look in the service centers all you see is brand new Accords. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DO NOT BUY A HONDA ACCORD HYBRID. HONDA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS. RIPOFF RIPOFF RIPOFF!

After 2,000 miles my car is getting 20 percent lower mileage than sticker, whether highway or in-town. Honda says this is normal. I've had two Toyota hybrids that matched or exceeded their stickered mileage. Honda will not work with me about correcting the problem. The car is otherwise comfortable to drive, but rather numb in handling. It has too many distracting screens, although some can be turned off.

Top mileage, unnoticeable shift from battery to engine mode, moderate road noise.

Test drove a little while ago as there were some good deals on some down at the dealer and was in the market for a Hybrid. Test drove the middle trim level, and it was nice, but there were some things I couldn't get past. First off the vehicle seemed to vibrate a little more than I would like it to when the gas motor was running as well as braking. I don't know if it was just that car or not though. The blind spot camera was a neat idea, but really got kind of annoying as it come on every time you turn on your right turn signal. even when sitting at a stop light. But probably one of the most annoying things about the car was its lack of actual volume knob for the stereo. It has steering wheel controls and a volume adjuster on the touch screen, but theres a slight delay, enough to be very annoying to me, and when using the touch screen controller, it wouldn't alway adjust like I thought it should have been. Other than those hang up, this car is quite nice. The sound is great, I like the 2 screen implementation and the instrumentation is nice. Also not having a lot of confusing packages for each trim level makes things easy to know what you are getting for what you buy. Overall 3/5.

My only complaint regarding my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid is the lack of a spare tire! This was not mentioned at the time of sale - there is a space in the trunk one would assume the tire to reside. Road construction materials in my city caused a shredding of one of my tires. Imagine my surprise to find I had no tire to change when searching for it. A can of air is no substitute for a tire! And the Honda dealer prices the spare at approximately $700! Long story short: this is the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had with Honda!!

Just bought this car today..... I hate it already. The Stereo and information center is difficult to use and a large distraction since there are no buttons and the unit isnt aimed at the driver. There is a stability issue that seems worse when in EV mode on the highway. The car sways back and forth causing constant correction even tho it isnt windy. Overall extremely disappointing car. On top of I had to deal with typical dealer bullshit. I am regretting buying this car big time the only plus is if I drive very gentlly I get good gas mileage but then it takes 60 seconds to get to 30mph and people try to run me off the road. Also the battery never fully charges.... Update. Two years in. The oil filter housing is defective with poor machining of the landing of the gasket so leaking is common. Highway gas mileage BLOWS! 38mpg at 70 which is the speed limit.... I can hear the noise canceling. I am going to clip the microphones to turn it off. The swaying on the highway was cured. I installed the 25.4mm sway bar from the Acura TLX. And a front strut brace.
