2025 GMC Terrain SUV Trims Comparison

Trim level differences

The 2025 GMC Terrain is a two-row compact SUV that is only available in the Elevation trim for the first year of its redesign. GMC has announced a lineup expansion in 2026 that will include new off-road-themed AT4 and upscale Denali variants.

A turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 175 horsepower is standard. Front-wheel-drive models use a continuously variable automatic transmission (or CVT) and produce 184 lb-ft of torque. With all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic is standard, and the engine delivers 203 lb-ft of torque. FWD versions can tow up to 800 pounds, while AWD models have a 1,500-pound maximum tow rating.

Highlights from the 2025 Terrain's standard equipment list include:

  • 17-inch wheels
  • Heated exterior mirrors
  • Remote engine start
  • 11-inch digital driver display
  • Heated front seats and steering wheel
  • Cloth upholstery
  • 15-inch touchscreen
  • Google built-in apps with navigation
  • Six-speaker audio system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Connected services with access to Wi-Fi
  • Four USB ports

In addition, the Terrain Elevation has these standard safety features:

  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Terrain and the car in front)
  • Blind-spot intervention (automatically steers the car back into its lane if you try to change lanes while a car is in the vehicle's blind spot)
  • Lane keeping assistance (steers the Terrain back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Intersection collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Rear automatic braking (applies the brakes automatically to avoid an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
  • Safety alert seat (vibrates the driver's seat cushion when a safety warning is triggered)

Which Terrain trim does Edmunds recommend?

For the 2025 model year, the Terrain comes only in the Elevation trim. There are many options, however, and we'd start by ticking the box for the all-wheel-drive version for its added engine torque and conventional automatic transmission. If you decide to opt for the Convenience Package II/Elevation Premium Package suite (the two are listed as separate line items but are bundled together), it makes sense to pay a little extra for the Convenience Package III. It ensures that both front seats are power-adjustable and ventilated and adds heated rear seats for your passengers.
