My husband brought this junk for my mothers day gift. The service dept drove the truck more than ME!!! The truck cut off while driving on a major highway three times. The dealer stated they couldn't understand why the check engine light stayed on and they couldn't locate the problem. Finally they changed the intake camshift solenoid sensor???? Wish me luck folks...what a gift..thank you honey for the LEMON!!!!!

The EPA Lies!!

There's a lot I like about the 2011 GMC Terrain, but unfortunately gas mileage isn't one of those things. I drive a 4-cylinder and use ECO mode and my city MPG is about 21 and highway is no better than 25 MPG tops. Performance overall is adaquate at best. I sacrifice the performance of 6 cylinder to get the better gas mileage and that didn't happen. Now I get mediocre performance and mediocre gas mileage. I bought this vehicle because of the advertised 32 MGP. There is NO WAY on God's green earth that I could ever get 32 MPG - not even close. The EPA absolutely lied!! If gas milegae is a high priority, don't buy this vehicle. I like a lot of the other features of this vehicle.

My husband and I recently purchased a 2011 GMC Terrain from Wade Raulerson GMC in Gainesville, FL. I get a new vehicle just about every year but this is one ride that I plan on keeping! I have never been so happy with a vehicle. It gets great gas mileage and everywhere I go I receive compliments on it and people ask me where I got it. The ride is smooth, no outside noise inside, the seats are comfortable and there is plenty of backseat room.

While driving computer is reading out about 35 mpg going 75 mph. Traded in 95 4runner. GMC at this point is built just as good or better than Toyota 4-runner with much better mpg and looks stylish. Very roomy inside unlike the 4-runner. Terrain we got has auto transmission 6 gears with 3:53 rear end ratio.

Traded my beloved 2005 Town & Country for the Terrain--thought I would miss my van--NOT! The only thing I miss is the power hatch--other than that, nothing. The Terrain drives nice, extremely smooth riding(just about as smooth as my van), the design is oh so cool (as my husband says, it looks "tough"). And I love all the little extras that "didn't cost extra"- -backup camera, bluetooth. And all the leg room in the backseat area-- awesome. We haven't quite got the gas mileage as stated we should, but then we only have 700 miles on it. And as for my husband--of course, the 8 speaker Pioneer sound system is the best. We love our Terrain and highly recommend it!

Bought the vehicle with 19k miles on. It immediately needed a air intake sensor and valve. I travel about 350miles weekly and took a 1000 mile round trip with it. It is a smooth ride, not bad pick up even at higher speeds for a 4 cylinder. All the controls are readily accessible, not having to search them. With owning about a dozen cars in the past, I usually buy non-american, but liked the features and style on it so i gave it a shot and so far enjoying it. The biggest downfall I've seen was the suggested gas mileage. I'm getting about 18-24mpg, thats city and hwy at different speeds, but to counteract that you can get around 400 miles on a tank- I have bad driving habits though!

2011 GMC 3.0L V-6 DIR, GREAT SO FAR!

Me and my wife just bought this car used with 31,000 miles on it. Got a great price on it and so far, its ran great. I was told by one person to stay away from the 3.0L V-6 and go 4-Cyl, but others told me it would be just fine. There is a knocking noise when it runs, 3 different certified GM dealers told me its normal with the car and the direct injection in it, it runs great and has no issues so I am going to take there word for it. Still have the powertrain warranty if something goes wrong anyway. Overall nice features, fun to drive, and sporty, rides smooth and is fun to drive! I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a SUV! Ours is FWD and we live in MN, drives great still!

My husband and I bought the 2011 GMC Terrain about a year ago. In the last six months, its been in the shop twice now. The first time was for an electrical issue...a terminal in the back of the car had corroded causing it to pull power on the ignition and drain the battery. It took the dealership almost two weeks to diagnose and fix. Then, six months later it would start but anytime you gave it gas, it would cut off. Still in the shop after two weeks with no answer. As both my husband and I being prior Toyota owners, I definitely regret buying this car. I should have kept with Toyota. Just an overall bad experience.

72000 miles and engine and trans rebuilt

First of all, any who are having excessive oil consumption and have a dealer telling you it is normal, go to another dealer. There is extended coverage for this issue. Be sure to signup on my.gmc.com and explore the "Special Coverage" bulletins for yourself. The fact that this was not a recall is absolutely ridiculous and the reason I will even consider another GM product. I had to jump through hoops having oil consumption tests(every 500 miles I think) but in the end they did a partial rebuild of the engine. Problem solved. The dealers are aware of this. I had little or no consumption after 1000 miles but after 2000 I needed 3 or 4 quarts of oil. Secondly after some 72,000 miles my transmission ceased to work except in 1st gear. The warranty had expired after four years(which allowed up to 100,000 miles, argh). The Trans shop told me this was fairly common in this transmission. Argh!!! This car was bought new by my stepson and he had many issues. He thought they had all been rectified. Boy was he wrong(the two major repairs I mention were done since I owned the car)! If I had taken the time to research here, I would never have bought it. Lastly, a few comments about the interior. The door lock button is in the middle of the dash. The drivers seat is not very comfortable. The drive of the car was pretty solid and I think it looks good but those are not enough to consider this auto. I still cannot believe the 2016/2017 version looks nearly identical.

I'd had a 2010 Chevy Equinox that had the terrible oil leak problems of this year/model. Finally (after much frustration) GM put a new engine in the car and, after another road trip, I took it to the dealer for an additional problem. I'd been on message-boards about GM vehicles and the 2011 vehicles seemed to have improved this issue, so I decided to take a chance on trading the Equinox for a 2011 Terrain. This SUV offered a smooth, quiet ride initially with good handling and great, little percs, like Sirius, bluetooth and a seat that I could adjust to exactly the way I wanted it....plus I loved the privacy windows, leather seats and moon roof. However, after a short time, the transmission began shifting hard in low gears, particularly on an incline. I really enjoyed the car and, stupidly, didn't want to have to deal with the dealer again over 'supposed problems', so I let the problem ride....it seemed minor after the huge difficulties with the Equinox. Well, needless to say, I just had to put in a rebuilt transmission at 115,000 miles. Now, deciding whether to take more chances after this investment, or to trade it in and be done with it. I know many of the positive reviews are from new buyers in the 2011 time period.....buyer beware.....I'm looking at Subaru's.

Transmission goes after 60000 miles. Burns too much oil after 89,000 miles. Engine dies after 120,000 miles due to fuel pump failure and the pistons. Ac unit replaced at 132,000 miles and the AWD differential goes atfer 100,000 miles. The only good thing about this car is the looks other than that don’t buy this 4 cylinder suv because it lacks power and you pay for it.. trust me

I purchased this vehicle August 22, 2018, by August 24, 2018 the check engine light was on. The dealership told me it was the catalytic converter, by the end of September it had broke again and again in January of 2019. Now here it is November 2019 and I am stranded again because of the catalytic converter... I am praying the dealership will fix it one last time, then I'm trading it in. I am done with this headache!

Stay away, I’ve made it to 160k only because I work on my own vehicle. Excessive oil consumption plays havoc on cat conv., replaced both front and rear cats 4x. Last time I gutted them and no more problem. Replaced ac compressor 3x, aside from oil consumption engine runs fine. Alternator 3x front axles 2x, pcm 1x Save your money buy Toyota.

Bought a 2011 GMC Terrain because I was looking for a good sized SUV... Paid over 20k for it and had to pump thousands more into it over the years. lol consumption issues, electrical issues, water pump and timing chain issues (timing chain is inside the water pump casing!!!), rusting issues around the hub wheels and bad on gas. Too big of a vehicle for a 4 cylinder to move. Stay away. One of the worse regrets I have ever had in purchasing a vehicle.

I bought the 2011 GMC Terrain SLT2 with the 2.4 engine. I love my sierra and figured I'd love this car because it's GMC... I've owned this car for 6 months and have replaced the timing chain, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, brakes, headlights... This car has also depreciated significantly in that half a year as well... It's worth what I put in parts but I'm offing it. Transmission seems like it's next. Does not shift smooth anymore. GM is well aware of these problems with faulty manifold and timing chain but did nothing for anyone outside of warranty. It should be a recall. Either way that Sierra is now gone welcome Ford to the driveway and the terrain will be replaced by Toyota next week. I've driven that pile of junk a total of 3000 miles, one oil change. It's lived at the dealer as long as it lived in the driveway. Stay away from the terrain and hedge your bets by just staying away from GMC

This vehicle has many many known issues that GM is very well aware of. The 2.4L engine is horrible. The timing chain tensioner was plastic. It's a cheap part but a $2400 repair. The exhaust manifold... Also a cheap part but over $1100 to repair... There's other minor issues but the transmission is also a known issue with slipping... Haven replaced that yet but I'm sure it won't be free. This vehicle has made me off any GM I had. I'll never buy a GMC again, I loved my sierra but if GM can't stand behind their product and recall or assist with costs on the thousands of complaints you can easily read online.. well... I guess we will see how Ford does. Bought an F150 and looking at an edge or AWD fusion to replace this p.o.s. if you like GM and want to continue liking GM.... Don't buy anything with the 2.4

I literally spent more money fixing the suv than I did buying it. I bought it used with 150,000 it was a 2011. Loved it for the first year and had no issues until after that 1st year of ownership. Had to replace transmission, then have more transmission work done. Had to fix airbags due to sensor issues of some sort. Then my air and heat wouldn’t blow out of the front vents just at the windshield. I knew I wasn’t crazy when I felt it was burning too much oil but after reading all the reviews I see now that I wasn’t crazy and it was burning way too much oil. It was literally something all the time. I thank God a drunk driver swiped me and the insurance got me another car cause if I had to put another penny in that one I would’ve lost it.

Bought this 2011 Terrain in 2016. Only had 44,000 miles on it. Since then, it's had 2 new engines, a new catalytic converter, a new air conditioner condenser, a high pressured fuel pump, the windows won't roll up when it's cold and the emgine eats oil. GM has never taken any responsibility for any of it. Never again GM!!

I purchased my 2011 Terrain SLE in 2016 from a car dealership(Subaru dealership actually). I don't remember the exact miles it had on it but it was approximately 69k-74k. Today is July 6, 2023 and this car is STILL RUNNING and has 217k miles on it. It still has a good pick up and go! YES, I might have to put oil in it once a month, It might now have a ticking sound, but it is still getting me around town to the store and doctors appointments. I live in Florida and the AC still works! Within the years that I have had this car, I did replace the CV Joints, Alternator, Serpentine Belt, Tie rods, A.C. and Relay switches. I would basically say, all the wear & tear stuff, not to mention my husband has pulled a trailer with lawn equipment on it with this vehicle for a little while until he got his truck. There are no dents, it's never been in an accident, and I do love the car! It was in good shape when I got it, even tho it had over 60k miles on it already and was already 5 years old. However, she's now tired, I know she wants to retire. I will be made to suck it up and have to have another car payment again. I can't be mad tho, she's done her job, took me on all kinds of vacations, lots of fun road trips, and I am happy I was given a few years without a car payment. Thank you to my 2011 GMC Terrain SLE for doing your job and hanging in there for me all these miles. Also for never leaving me stranded!! .. You are welcome that I stayed on top of your service and maintenance, that is probably why you were so good to me!

I had a 2011 Terrain SLT2 for almost 6 years. Burned through oil like nothing I've ever seen. Check Engine light was on and off for years with no idea what was causing it. Engine was rattling and honestly I feared driving it.to work daily (the only times we drove it) because it would lurch and hesitate after braking. I owed 2300 on my loan, flew the white flag, and went to a dealer that offered 2k, so I ate the last 300 and left with a new (to me) Acura.

Bought a 2011 GMC Terrain SLE 2 with a 29000 miles on it on 5/2012. When it reached 89000 miles while under warranty the Ac was replaced and they also took it upon themselves to replace the timing belt as well and I think they did something else but I can't remember. These are the things that I had to pay out of my pocket for because extended warranty doesn't cover, Cadillac Converter 1800 dollars and I think that wasn't too long after the Ac went out. I've had Ab sensor lights replace and that was the only thing that rhe extended warranty would cover. Also have replaced thermostat water pump etc so many things until I recall all of them . So now it has 124000 miles on it as of 5/2024 and the ABS, TRACTION, BRAKE and the STABILITY TOOL lights all came on at the same time. I had all Abs speed sensor replaced on all the wheels but of course that wasn't it. Chevrolet dealership stated that it's ABS Module control and they didn't tell me it's hard to get a new one because they' very seldomly make them anymore as if my vehicle is 20 years old and I know because I read it that GMC Terrain owners are having this problem. The price of a new ABS Module Control is from 800 to over 900 dollars not including labor. They also suggested that I could get a used one which the price would be less but that's my very last alternative. Also I had two different Dealership in two different states which is Ala and Fla tell me that I can still drive it with the lights on with no problem at all unless I have to come to a complete quick stop, well guess what nobody knows when you may to have to hit the brakes quickly and I don't want to purchase a used one because who knows when it will go out. Btw the AC stopped working and the vehicle have not been moved since it was brought back from the Dealership and the reason I brought it back home from the dealership is because I didn't want it sitting out in the hot sun and it had been sitting there for almost a month but in the meantime I've got to fix my AC. So please please don't buy a GMC Terrain . People loves to talk about a Ford but guess what my 2004 Expedition is still running, it had 40000 miles when I purchased it over 17 years ago and now it has almost 300 thousands miles on it. If anybody reads this and have any suggestions please let me know.

Picked up a 2011 5 days ago and have enjoyed it so far. Fit and finish are very nice. Haven't had a gmc since mid-90's but this is a real eye- catcher. Comfortable and yet easy to drive/park. Mine is carbon black with gray interior. Really strong look. I traded a GL 320 MB which was 2 years old and had 9 repair trips so I am hopeful that my luck on this will change. So far so good and I would gladly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

I had driven a 1996 Ford Explorer Sport until December 2010 when I bought the 2011 Terrain. I thought I would never find an auto that I loved as much as the Explorer Sport, but I was wrong. I love my Terrain!!! No, the gas mileage is not as advertisied, but that is the only issue I have seen, found or had.

The vehicle rides great, low road noise, smooth handling. But where is the great gas mileage. Just got mine and drove from Norman, Ok. to Springfield, Mo and got 20.7 mpg!!!!! Even though it;s not broken in yet it should get more than that. Spent the extra bucks to get the gas mileage but now...I'm still poor.

I am the person who always looks at the reviews of cars but never write one. I must say I am compelled to write one on the Terrain. I've had my SUV since Feb. 2011 and I must say I don’t have any major complaints. I use to drive a KIA and that was a lemon. Before that I drove GMC vehicles. I am so glad to drive a GMC again. It was a defiantly change for me going from a V6 to a 4cyl. As far as the gas mileage goes, I am concern about how long a tank of gas for me will last. It last about a week and half to 2 weeks. That’s a lot longer than with the KIA V6. Overall I am glad I got the Terrain. It’s good on bumps & long road trips. If you want to buy this SUV I think you will be happy.

I have had my Terrain for approx 3 weeks now and I love it so far. The interior is very spacious and comfortable, and the ride is very smooth and quiet. The engine does not accelerate super quick, but it is a 4 cyl, so that was expected. I recently drove to Tucson (slight drop in elevation) and got 34 mph, and 29 mph on the way back (sticking to 75-80mph). After a week of driving back and forth to work and in town, my overall avg. was just under 25 mpg. For the people stating they cannot get good gas milage from their Terrain, how fast are you driving? If you are going 85-90 mph, you are not going to get good gas milage on the hwy.

I have had great luck with this vehicle reading all the problems. But I do get the oil changed every 3,000 miles. And rotate tires every 6,000 miles. 80,000 miles on the first set of Michelin tires, Have replaced with same. Only issue I had was a electronic dash still under warranty, and a wheel bearing at 117,000 miles. Love the car love the comfort would get another but this time with a diesel.
