Watch for radio
An overall excellent reliable and underappreciated car. The only two weak points are the radio which was replaced twice under warranty (CD/Cassette) and the alternator which went out at 75000. No other repair bills necessary.
Good little car
I bought mine as a salvage vehicle, and I've had to fix a few random things, and it still has some quirks (can't roll up the drivers-side window if you're going above 45mph) but overall it's been good. When I bought it it had 94K on it, now it has 124K. In that time (15 months), I've bought 2 sets of tires, numerous oil changes, two alignments, transmission, starter, alternator, timing belt, replaced all the other belts and hoses, and replaced the distributor and everything that attaches to it. Besides the tranny, the most $$ repair was the distributor.
Energizer bunny
Bought it with about 25k on the clock in 1997. Chose it over the corolla precisely because it was a toyota at a chev price. What can I say, this has been an *insanely* reliable car. Now at 180k, and still going strong. Outside of oil and tires I've only ever replaced an alternator and power steering pump. I do run 10W40 in the summer or it does burn a little. Still on the original rear brakes and muffler! I'm only considering replacing it now because the (original!) front struts have gone south over the last 6 months. The body is still almost rust free after 10 years in Minnesota. It's never left me stranded.
Why won't it die???!!!
Only one repair in 11 years! Alternator went. The CD player bit it at about 100,000. I just put a changer in the trunk. The car looks like it has 40,000 miles on it instead of 125,000. I would love something new, but how can I justify it when the inside including the upolstery is pristine, it gets 33 miles per gallon every tank, it never leaks oil, and it even has the original brakes (I keep asking if they need replaced at every routine maintanence. They say there is still 25% remained.) Has never not started.
Awesome Car
My first new car! Driven daily for 8 years - almost 100,000 miles and still going strong. Decent engine power (at least without the A/C), responsive steering. Extremely reliable - only maintenance, and one alternator at 90,000 miles. Great gas mileage. Good sound system. Too bad Chevy will no longer be offering these. Will probably buy a Corolla (it's twin) next time!
