Love the car - hate the service

I love my 2018 g80 sport with AWD. Unfortunately my dealer was closed about 6 months after I bought the car. No dealer within 60 miles. While I have valet pick up service, I’m given Hyundai’s as loaners by nearest service dealer, which has no Genesis cars. They also don’t know how to service the G80 - my tire pressure light was on when they drove it back to me after an oil change. The tech didn’t know the correct tire pressure! I’ve also been waiting over 4 weeks now to hear back from Genesis re the issues. Definitely Hyundai level service and nowhere near equal to any middle class sedan, never mind Mercedes or BMW.

I used to love my G80 sport until a recent problem with engine ticking. Here are my comments prior to this issue... The car is quiet, fast if I want to have a bit of fun, and looks great inside (I have the two tone black and white leather) and out, and has just about every option anyone could want. I get much better gas mileage than the EPA rating. City is about 20 MPG. Highway is about 29 MPG. Combined is about 22 MPG. Having said that, it's not a perfect car. The exterior chrome can discolor. There was a creak around the driver and passenger side grab handles. On the driver side it was right near my ear, and that can be annoying since the car is otherwise so quiet. The dealer had difficulty tracking down the issue and has since replaced the grab handles. That has largely addressed the problem, though I sometimes still hear the creaking. But it's much better. There's an occasional rattle from somewhere in the rear related to the rear sunshade. The dealer couldn't duplicate it, but this is not that big a deal. It doesn't happen often. I can tell it's the sunshade because if I raise the sunshade when I hear the rattle, the rattle goes away. There is/was also a minor electrical problem with the entertainment system. Occasionally, if I shut off the entertainment system while driving, when I get to my destination and turn off the car, the entertainment system will come on when I open the door to leave the car. Though I haven't had this problem for many months. The sunroof used to strain while closing - eventually getting to the point that it wouldn't close unless I helped it with my hand. The dealer has subsequently corrected the problem. During the most recent visit to the dealer to swap out the grab handles, they also did an update to the computer software. The car used to be a bit jittery at low throttle, but that problem seems to have been corrected as a result. It's also possible the update corrected the electrical problem with the entertainment system. I also had a problem with the driver seat moving ever-so-slightly during corners. It was just something you could feel in your butt, rather than any major movement of the seat. This was a known problem and was corrected by the dealer under warranty. I happen to be a bit old-fashioned and will open the car door for my wife. Periodically, if I start the car remotely and open the door for my wife, when I close the passenger-side door the driver seat and steering wheel will position themselves in the pre-programmed driver's position as if I had sat in the seat. Makes for a bit of a squeeze when I go to sit. It's not a big deal because it doesn't happen often. The dealer could not duplicate. The sport model has staggered tires, so they cannot be rotated front to rear. Tires will therefore need to be replaced more frequently. Most of the issues above were/are minor annoyances. The car is otherwise fantastic. Very comfortable and quiet. Fantastic sounding entertainment system. UPDATED COMMENTS BELOW... At about 42,000 miles the high pressure fuel pump ticking on cold-start (which is considered normal for this engine, and I didn't really worry about) got much louder. And then rather than ticking going away after about 20 seconds, I can now hear ticking from inside the cabin pretty much all the time. This bothers me a great deal. Previously the car was pretty much silent. I took the car into the dealer and they said the sound is normal, but I'm not buying it. This continuous ticking that can be heard from inside the cabin never happened before. Also, on a prior oil change I sent the used oil to Blackstone lab for analysis. Everything was good except for elevated levels of silver, which *could* reflect bearing wear, or possibly from solder connections. It was recommended to not worry about it until a subsequent analysis. These elevated silver readings may or may not have anything to do with the increase ticking volume. The car is still under warranty for a couple more years, so I'll ride out this current problem for the time being. If it worsens I'll bring it back to the dealer for possible warranty work.

Comfortable luxury Sedan

Upgraded from original Hyundai Genesis with 3.8 to 2018 3.3t 2 years ago. The cars interior are similar with the exception of nicer leather alcantera headliner and carbon fiber inserts. Exterior adds the nicer IMO front end and wheel package. But the real difference is the engine and the handling, which takes this car a few notches above my 2015 Genesis. I have owned this car for 2 years trouble free. It is fun adult car, with good power without the attention seeking noise of most sport sedans. If you are in the market for a 4-5 seater for business, this will be a bargain on the used market. Regularly maintain this car, and you will be dollars ahead of your Pals with MB, Audi and BMW’s. Good bye Germans. The Koreans have arrived.

not sure why some reviewer compare this to an Azera or there is not enough luxury and/or talk smack about Korean cars. The Genesis will definitely keep pace with Mercedes and BMWs. I have owned two Mercedes E430 and SLK in the past. Now I can truly love to be able to enjoy a luxury car and keep $10 to $20k in my wallet. Also, Genesis comes with 5 years bumper to bumper warranty and a 10 years powertrain warranty. Plus a bunch of awards.... Unfortunately, there are way too many uneducated consumers out there that enjoy pissing their cash in the wind.

I am 83 and this is my third Genesis which is the Sport model. For you young guys she will do 60 in4.5 seconds. My only complaint is the gas usage. It should be better. PS my wife likes the vehicle. Hoss B
