I just purchased my second Ford Ranger. I test-drove many different models of ranger from the edge to XLT to the FX4 Level II. The level II was the best buy for the money I paid just under $20400 for it by purchasing online. After reading the other reviews it is pretty obvious that you have to buy the 4.0 Liter SOHC SC engine has more power then you need for a compact truck. The sport bucket seats are far more comfortable then the bench seats.

I bought my FX4 level II Ranger back in January of 2003. I have 13,000 miles on it so far and it still drives like the day I bought it. I love this truck so much I can't stay out of it. the power is right there with the 5-speed automatic transmission and the 4:10 gears. My truck also has bucket seats and the ride is just right. This one of the best Rangers ford has ever made!

It's been a great ride

I love this Truck. It's transmission just had a not major, but expensive failure to repair (trans pump seal). It has 175,000 miles on it and it has been a blast to drive, unstoappable in the winter, and a blast off road & mudding. I would pull full sized trucks out of bad situations, and everyone is surprised at how easily my "little truck" does it; it was a serious Off Road vehicle. I had Dyno-matted the entire interior, which probably has a lot to do with how quiet and smooth the ride was, as well as making the doors feel more substantial. To this day it is a very comfortable and smooth ride. I did very little maintenance on it aside from the typical wear and maintenance parts. I still have the original hoses on the truck, I flushed and changed the coolant system one time, performed one spark plug and cable change, replaced the alternator & the cat back exhaust one time, replaced all the ball joints and tie rod ends after one of the lowers failed, replaced the front wheel bearing$, and rear axle seals. 16 years of hard work, fun, and daily driving, and those were all the issues I had! This has to be THE best Ranger ever produced then, and maybe even to this day. If you find one with low to moderate miles, and is still in good shape*, don't hesitate to pick it up it will not let you down.
