I4 2.5L auto 6-speed transmission woes
I want to love this car so much, but please do not buy the 2.5L 4 cylinder 6-speed auto like I did. The transmission is different in the two larger engine sizes. The tranny mated with this engine WILL fail. Do some research if you don't believe me. Our transmission problems started a week after ownership. The problems go like this: High RPM "flare" during acceleration on gear shifts 3-4 or 4-5 @ 35+ mph. The car will jerk forward violently. There's also a very loud "clunk" when you go into reverse. The dealers will not help you until the car is dead. I took it in 3 times before they found a fault. Our fusion has been in service since Feb 8th. Today is March 2nd. Ford has not taken care of us
Great look/ Nice Car
Good acceleration, comfortable and mostly reliable. Fuel economy is great compared to older models. A great looking car, very sporty and the paint is excellent. Most problems with this model are electronics. Drivers heated seat went out at 65,000 miles. expensive repair ($600) unless you do the labor. Moon roof broke, will not open and when it does, it sticks open. needs repair. Center brake light went out and the entire assembly had to be replaced. At 73,000 miles the right rear window opens and will not close, randomly. I love this Fusion with exception of those problems. Hope the newer models are improved. This SEL is not AWD and has a 6 Cyl. There was no option for this without the AWD.

My Fusion
Bought mine brand new in August 09 and I know have 76,000 miles on it. First the bad. The throttle body kicked the bucket after 60,000 miles, the driver side door handle broke last summer, the check engine light always seems to come on even though nothing seems to be wrong, and there seems to be a vapor lock when I fill it with gas and it will struggle to start and then it's fine. Now for the good. I've used the car more like a truck and it's done great. I've driven up and down the east coast in it filled with camping stuff and two bikes on the back and it's been great. I've driven it thru creeks, forests, on the beach, and in heavy snow and it's a beast.
Fun & Reliable car that looks great!
I have had my fusion for 3 years. It has been super reliable. It is fun to drive and fast also. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the look of the car as well. The only thing I have had to replace is the battery. Besides that I change the oil and just put a new set of tires on it. Great car if you take care of it. To address a majority of the negative reviews, if you don't change the fluids at regular intervals and dog the crap out of it, of course its going to break down, just like any other car would. Thanks.

Horrible Car
Highly disappointed! Have had this car for 2 years and have had it in the shop so much. The arm rest broke requiring the whole door panel to be replaced, the A/C switch broke requiring the entire dashboard taken apart, serpentine belt shredded and never made any noise before happening now there's a recall on the wheel stud & rear brake disc inspection and lug nut replacement and sure enough I had a lug nut break before I even got the notice. The drivers seat is also electric and is very temperamental also.
