Avoid The 2013 Focus Automatic At All Costs
I almost lost count of the trips to the dealer for warranty work on the infamous dual-clutch transmission. After a recent update, the car stalled out while in slow-and-go traffic on I-95 in Virginia. I traded it two days later. Not safe, not reliable.

Great value for the price, but not without drawbacks.
Great car for the price, got mine for what I consider a 'steal'. Drives like european sedan...puts a smile on my face the way it goes around turns effortlessly. Engine not yet broken in, and computer needs to be calibrated but so far I can exceed 40mpg going 65, and hit 35 going 75. This car needs almost no maintenance! GladI didn't purchase extended warranty: Platinum plugs, ceramic brake pads, synthetic tranny lube, top consume reports rated cooper tires, this car is built to last (I hope!). If you do buy this car, I recommend going with car and driver's advice and buying a manual SE model with the upgrade package, allowing you to avoid My Ford Touch and dullard of an auto tranny.
great car after 12,000 miles don't be afraid
I have now put on 12,000 miles on my 2013 ford focus se with 6speed dct auto. It has been a great car. Don't be afraid of the transmission. It shifts very smooth is nice. If you drive consistently and don't step on the gas hard it very rarely gives a bad shift. If you step on the gas hard it can be slow to downshift or sometimes might stay in existing great instead of upshifting. The transmission is an automated manual and thats how it gets amazing gas mileage. I get 39/40 mpg real world driving when the weather is good and I drive about 80% highway 20% city. In low speed driving like a parking lot it is not as nice as a regular automatic but it is fine just be easy on the gas. T
Poor Navigation System
I purchased a 2013 FORD FOCUS Nov 2012 and took the optional navigation system because I needed it. Since the firsr time I used the system it did not fuction properly. It is inaccurate placing the vehicle location on either a different street or driving through backyards. When the destination is right ahead at 50 yards the system tells to turn left then right at the next street to reach the destination. Needless to say that this could be dangerous as well as getting the driver lost. The vehicle has been to the dealership twice for two hours each time. The whole software was updated as well as the new version SD card installed. The second time the service dept liasoned with FORD but never
Great car if you don't drive in the winter
Bought this car 6 months ago have 11,000 miles on it and loved it I have the manual so I have had no issues, no shaky parts or rattling, IDK what they are talking about. But drove to work on first snow storm barley covered the roads and I had no traction, traction control almost hurt me worse had to shut it off to get any momentum. Got stuck at a stop light even. I have all season tires on it and it is the worst car I have driven in the winter. Anyone else experience this? I'm debating on trading cars already. Any advice or comments?
Great car if you can handle a weird transmission
This car is my first car and I noticed after a week or two of having it that when I would be at a complete stop and then accelerate it was jerk on me. Its annoying at times but its normal. Believe the car dealership when they say its normal. Its the made of the transmission, Its a mix between a standard and an automatic. I never have a shifting problem when im going fast and steady only when im in town and traffic is crazy and im stopping and going for a while. in low gears its acts like a standard and jerks you a little. The gas tank is small so I fill up alot seems like. But other than that its a good car. very comfortable and good speakers. The steering basically can handle its self almost. Love this little car as my first car.

3-month followup - Ford has stepped their game up
I have 2800 miles now after 3 months from Oct-Jan. My driving habits are mostly city (90%+): 27.4 MPG. On a short road trip, i get around 30, and don't know how to get the EPA 36, maybe 80mph doesnt bode well for fuel econ. The ride is good(not too stiff) and the handling is very good, but the 18"pilot sport 3 are bad in snow but are great in rain and dry. The sync is fine, it does change my media upon start-up about 30% of the time. The bluetooth works good (podcasts/pandora/etc) and i am using both an SD card and USB stick. Making phone calls is very easy, the phone features are always on. Going for my first oil change soon and no problem issues that i know of.
Loaded up like a Lexus
fun ride
Most trouble-free car I've owned.
Fun to drive! The manual transmission has been smooth. Have heard horror stories about the automatic from other owners. Sync voice system sometimes requires repeating commands. Gas mileage is very good (33mpg combined), considering that I'm not a mellow driver. If I babied it, could easily get near 40mpg. Body, interior and leather look like new after 60k miles. I have had NO unexpected repairs at all, just the normal tire and oil changes. Would easily buy again.

I like it!
Ok, I got to the Ford Focus by accident. I originally went to the local dealer to see a Fiesta, but their inventory was nonexistent, then I asked for the Focus and they only had one. Next door was a Honda dealer so we looked at a Civic, Liked it, but they would not do a deal over rims. So I went to Spokane to Wendle Motors after looking at their inventory online. Sent two car that I wanted to look at and they had them all ready for me. Test drove a White focus SE and a Grey Fiesta, loved both chose the Focus. No issues with it, small learning curve with all the controls, handles well and Good gas mileage so far. No issues with trany. I would recommend this car. in is an auto not 5 speed.
MORE TROUBLE THAN WHAT IT'S WORTH
You will have to take this vehicle to the dealer for repairs numerous times. I have had to take my car in at least six times in less than two years. It has several recalls and needs several other recalls done to make it safe to drive. The transmission computer module reset had to be done on my car several times, Ford reset it twice and replaced it three times on my car. It is in again with transmission issues that was not part of the recall by they are replacing it free of charge. Parts for this vehicles have been on back order numerous times leaving me without a car for several days up to a week without a vehicle. I have several children and this car makes me afraid to transport them in the car. It will not accelerate when you need to at times. I have been getting onto the highway, pushing the gas pedal as far as it will go and it refuses to go. This car is a DANGER TO THE OWNERS AND ANYONE ON THE ROAD. There are very few good qualities about this car so it is not worth the hassle and risk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON THIS CAR!!!

Beware of transmission
Ford admits to "shuddering" and "rough shifting" vehicle is not comfortable the head seats can not be removed to clean seat the gas mileage is around 19 city for me with 87 octane and around 15 with Ethanol. Don't believe me? Test drive today.

Decent, but probably not what you want in a car.
I bought this car in 2015, used, one owner, with about 10,000 miles on it. It was a decent car for a while, until the transmission went out and I had to have it replaced. This car gets me from “point A to point B” without major issues. I currently have 130,207 miles on my focus, and I’m just now having to replace the wheel bearings. And I drive my car like Mario Andretti. Also, I live in West Virginia, where the roads are very bad. So I guess my driving makes up for the early maintenance. This car isn’t the BEST in snow/ice/slick conditions, but it does okay for a front wheel drive economy sedan. The gas mileage is GREAT (28-32 city/32-45 highway) if you take it easy. The headroom in the front is decent, and I’m 5’7. However, the rear head/leg room is what you should expect from a small sedan. For driving dynamics and handling, this car handles very well for what it is. I drive a 2005 Toyota Camry LE now, and I realize how much I miss my Focus because of the handling. Acceleration is sub par, with only 160 HP, but it’ll get you where you’re going. For the interior quality, it’s... pretty cheap. Lots of hard plastics and cheap molded material that tends to rattle sometimes. The seats however, are actually very durable (I had cloth/fabric seats) and relatively easy to clean. Overall, the 2013 Ford Focus is a good commuter car. Could it be better, hell yeah. Is it worth your money? Thats up to you. If you’re looking for a small car that gets great gas mileage and has some decent features, it’s for you. Just don’t set your expectations too high.

Has been a great car
I purchased my 2013 Ford Focus new and now have about 11,000 miles on it. I optioned for the SFE package for better fuel economy. I have getting about 33 mpg combined city and highway. It has been a great car and very easy to drive. I would recommend this car.

Sporty and fun to drive....
This is a wonderful car....especially for someone who wants to drive something that's sporty, but practical. Forget the backseat....it simply doesn't exist. But it has a lot of storage space for hauling things. I play in band I am able to get my amp, keyboard stand, and two keyboards, plus all of my other extra stuff in it with no hassle. I bought the Hatchback for this very purpose. It has a very nice stereo system....good bluetooth. Navigation system is pretty good....but not great. Good pickup and if you drive it right you will get good mileage. In flat terrain it will get easily in the mid to high 30's MPG. I'm in the mountains and still manage in the high 20's. The Titanium model I have has every imaginable bell and whistle you could ask for on a car. Indeed, it's hard to imagine a car in this price range and size having as much as it does.

Good on gas but reliability it's not to be expecte
I originally bought this car with 30,000 miles on it. It maintained well for 2 years or so until I started having transmission issues. This was a dress by a Ford recall. However, I have had consistent overheating issues and have been unable to use the air conditioning in the summertime. At times I don't know for sure if this is going to get me from point a to point b. I have spent several thousand dollars trying to repair this car over the course of three years and it has been one thing after another. I would recommend against this vehicle.

DO NOT BUY
I made the mistake of not reading any reviews before buying this car and let me tell you it has been hell. I bought my 2013 Ford Focus SE pre-owned from the dealership and within the first year of owning it I brought it back about 4 time because of TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. They have recalls on this vehicles transmission and NONE of them fix the problem. Every time you accelerate from a stop the entire car stutters/jumps/throws you forward. It never gets better, only gets worse. Last time I brought the car in, the dealership told me there is nothing more they can do that’s “just how the car shifts gears.” It is a very annoying problem, and it is VERY NOTICABLE. Save yourself the trouble with this car.

A Big Waste of Money
The Focus Ti I have looks sharp, but it's not dependable technology wise . I have been locked out of it twice. The 8 inch display has frozen on me so as I couln't call to get help. The phone unpairs three times a week as Ford after 5years hasn't got syncing their cars right yet. Just Google all the complaints by owners who bring their cars back and the service people blame the phone or the weather. Served my country and got screwed and tried to belive in an American car and got screwed again. Not the dealers fault or the poor mechanic who's not a techie,Ford is in one big mess. I'll have my German car by 2015. What a waste of $25,585 sticker price I had to pay excise tax on.
worst decision of my life
I got the 2013 Ford Focus Titanium in the winter of 2016. Granted, it was my first car and it lasted to 221,000 miles over the course of about 7 years, but at what cost? For the last 7 years, my car has been nothing but problem after problem. I practically became a local at the nearest car repair shop. The car started jerking and rumbling like boulders about 3 days after I got it. I was never able to fix that, it just got worse over the years. Ford said it's normal, definitely not! The A/C stopped working after about a year and a half, no one could figure it out for 2 years. I had to drive with the windows down to avoid heat stroke in the hot south Texas summers. Finally I was lucky enough to pay thousands of dollars to fix it between a few different shops after years of sweating driving down the street. I had numerous fuse blows, brake lights stopped working, interior dashboard stopped working, sometimes I'd go into a store for 5 minutes and come back to find my car unable to turn on. Fuse blew. This has been a reoccurring issue for the last 7 years. I should also mention that the interior is extremely cheap, pieces of all the plastic have fallen off over the years including both mirror covers, sunglass storage, pieces of the dash and radio, and the center console. The light switch dial on the left side of my steering wheel (also made of plastic) actually broke off and fell inside the dash. So every time I had to open the trunk or switch my lights off, I had to stick my arm inside the gaping hole where the dial once laid and fish around for the dial box, which rested inside the frame of my car. Very classy. On the plus side, it made for a great hiding spot for small items. I had a blown coolant hose, typical car issue but when I took it in, turns out I had some other issues as well. Spent a load on that visit too. Not to mention that the radio is pathetic, I have to master reset my radio every other week because my car likes to forget my phone's bluetooth randomly. To master reset, I'd have to park and wait 10-15 minutes for the reset to complete, then turn off my car, open and close the door, lock my car, unlock my car, open and close the door again, turn on the car, then I could reconnect my phone. Lovely. I figured out that technique by pure desperation. Also, the USB plugs don't work. Brakes were okay, MPG was good, interior was attractive, but the engine was a nightmare. Finally, my transmission blew after 7 years. My car had a lot of miles, but I took regular care of everything that needed to be done. With my luck, turns out that the double clutch is untouchable by many repair shops down here, even the Ford dealership wouldn't look at my car. I had to hobble my POS car back home, sounding like an airplane engine ready for take off. Sorry neighbors. I'm grateful for the years of memories with this car, it took me from highschool to my first job, all the way to my last year of college. Now that the transmission is a goner, I'm more than relieved to say goodbye to this nightmare and find a Japanese car that can handle a trip to the store or a friend's house and won't die on me randomly. Avoid this car at all costs unless you want to spend more money repairing it than what it's worth. I wish I chose another car from the jump, and I wish I made the decision to let go and find something better years ago. I've never been in a toxic relationship until I stepped foot in this car. Good luck on your search for something better!

A car designed with contempt for its purchasers
I bought a 2013 Ford Focus as a new car eight years ago. Prior to purchasing, I had read some favorable reviews about the Focus and it seemed to be a good value. At first, I loved the vehicle but soon noticed that it shifted strangely which improved a little after a computer adjustment was done at the dealership. After owning the car for about a year or so, I started to learn that many other Focus owners were having transmission problems. I also discovered that it the transmission was sealed so the fluid could never be changed. This sounded absurd to me and certainly an indicator of planned obsolescence. As someone who normally keeps vehicles as long as possible, I realized then that buying the Focus was a terrible mistake. Since I no longer have a daily commute, I have put little mileage on the vehicle in the past four years. Due to limited driving, I managed to get eight years out of the vehicle. A few months ago, the clutch had to replaced at around 60K miles. Last month, the transmission control module failed and the car has been sitting at the shop due to the part being on back order. If it ever gets out of the shop, I plan to sell the vehicle although it really should be taken to the scrap yard since it is likely to have endless transmission issues. Like the exploding Ford Pinto back in the 1970's, the Focus was a car designed with contempt for its purchasers. I have absolutely zero confidence in the Ford Motor Company and will never consider buying one of their products again.

Pass the blame!
My 2013 Focus had the severe “shuttering” issue when I purchased it used in 2016. My salesman told me” it’s supposed to drive like that. Just drive it like it hot”!! I had it looked at on 3 separate occasions because I knew the shuttering wasn’t normal. Each time I I was told ( by the Ford dealership) that the transmission was running “normally “. Finally, in 2019, the transmission was recalled and Ford fixed the transmission and clutch. So now, a little over two years later, the shuttering is back. I’m told by a Ford dealership that the clutch needs replaced…again. But because it’s been over 24 months since the last replacement, I am responsible for the clutch replacement now. So essentially, their products can’t be expected to last more than 2 years!? My car has under 100k miles and isn’t driven rough so I don’t think it’s acceptable for Ford to expect me to pay $3k to replace their junk work/materials that were recalled???

haaaaaaaaaaaated it
I drove an automatic 02 focus hb for 10 years and LOVED it. I thought I was upgrading with the 2013. If you are used to a manual transmission this would probably be ok. It has the same shuddery jerky bumpy shift and backwards roll features that are on a standard transmission. I had it under 2 months and bought a different brand. It was that bad.
Favorite car I’ve owned
This is my favorite car I’ve ever owned. Past cars were Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Honda Accord. Ford really nailed value and quality with this car. The auto-manual transmission is getting a bad reputation in the reviews, and it seems Ford is doing a lot of unnecessary repairs to appease people who don’t understand how the transmission works. Nissan has similar issues with their CVT - people who expect a hydraulic auto transmission are confused by something different. PROS - This car is very comfortable and stylish. Sound system is decent. Great gas mileage. Great acceleration when passing (not taking off though). Great visibility from inside cabin, and blind-spot side-view mirrors were a nice addition. Good handling in corners. Interior quality is excellent. CONS - Despite understanding the auto-manual transmission, it sometimes engages the wrong secondary gear, meaning you have to wait a second or two for it to catch up when you press the accelerator. I wish it had “sport mode” manual selectors. The center console is an absolute mess of unneeded buttons. Why in the world does it have an alpha-numeric keypad? Take out the keypad and make the screen bigger. Screen doesn’t show artist or song name because the screen is too small. No backup camera.

So far so good!
I think you need to drive this car! You need to decide if its right for you. I recently bought a 2013 SE with 49k. I bought the 5 speed manual transmission, because of the horror stories I've been hearing about the Focus automatic transmission. I also honestly prefer a manual transmission. The only negative comment I will make is the clutch pedal needs to be further to the left. I'm averaging about 31 mpg and love my Focus!

Disappointed!!!!
Horrible purchase. I previously owned a 2001 Ford Escape and experienced no issues, so I figured I would stick with a Ford vehicle. I have a long commute and decided the 2013 Ford Focus would be a practical choice. 3 months after purchasing it, the heater needed to be replaced. Ford also decided to replace the clutches in the transmission as well since it was very noisy when accelerating and shifting gears. Vehicle was returned to me and the transmission problems still existed. As of right now, it's sitting at the dealership waiting to have the power steering rack replaced...I've owned this car for 18 months, and have driven 54000km....brutal.
DO NOT BUY A FORD!!!!
I purchased a ford focus 2013 six months ago and everything is now falling apart and has electrical issues please to avoid lots of stress please skip out on ford...I've called corporate and they did nothing basically told me that they'll put in a report but other than that my 4 year old and I are screwed even though our lives are in danger

2013 Ford Focus 22500 miles. What a piece of .... Three motors.Unsolved Transmissions problems, Dead battery, 2 months in the service bay. 1:30 am tow was priceless. The great thing is the 2014 and 2015 are having the same problems..So if you buy one here is your new routine. 1 buy car,2 Be told there is nothing wrong with the transmission. When you need to get out and rock it to back up.surges while driving .. Its your imagination. 3 Drive to service bay and wait for days 4 break down, get towed, and end up selling for less than you brought it for.Or just buy a Toyota and save your self so much aggravation.
Sporty and Fun with Confusing Sync
Ive a 2013 Ford Focus SE Sedan with five-speed manual transmission. I shopped it against a 2012 Chevy Cruze LS with six-speed manual. Both are excellent. I chose the Focus for its sportier suspension and steering. The EPA predicts 36 mpg highway; the Focus delivered 35.2 mpg on my most recent trip. I am exceedingly happy with fuel economy. Im enjoying the five-speed manual transmission. Id prefer a sixth gear for freeway driving. (The car would probably get even better mileage with one higher gear). Thats a small nit though. The 2013 Focus SE with five-speed manual is a sporty, fun-to-drive car with good fuel economy. Be sure you can live with Ford Sync and the strange dashboard layout.
What Ford doesn't Tell you about the transmission
I've replaced the clutch in my car twice and the transmission module once. I had it back in today because the same problems arose. The guys that was helping me was really great but I asked him if the problem was solved and if I would ever have to bring it back in. He told me that the replacement part that Ford made for the clutch, they just made the materials softer so after about another 20,000 to 30,000 miles the same problems will arise again. Additionally, Ford will not replace the clutch after your car reached 100,000 miles. So if you get a clutch replaced at 80,000 miles and it goes out when your car hits 102,000 miles you will have to pay to replace it. It sounds like a cheap design job to me and that Ford to looking for an easy way out of owning up to their mistake. I would never recommend this car to anyone.

Lemon, lemon, lemon
I bought this brand new 2013 focus one year ago three months after I had it I had to put new tires on it because they were almost bald, then it started to shutter like my transmission was going out(they have finally recalled that part) terrible terrible terrible in the snow and now the air conditioning is out.. Mechanically This car is a piece of crap! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM IT!!!
Worst transmission ever built. Worst car company.
Don't buy this car. Ford experimented with a dual-clutch transmission and it was a complete failure. Had a 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus that I bought for my kids and both were in the shop constantly due to the transmission. The 2013 had the clutch assembly replaced twice. Ford would never admit that the transmission was a flop even though they extended the warranty on it for 7 years. I contacted the regional customer service rep and they just gave me the standard line that "Ford will continue to repair the problem." What good is the car if it is always in the shop being repaired. This was my first experience with buying a Ford and it will be my last. Traded in both cars for a Chevy Cruze and a Toyota Corolla. Since Ford won't admit their mistakes and take care of their customers, I will never be a customer of theirs again. I guess the old Ford motto still holds true - Found On Road Dead. Since the time I got rid of both cars there is now a class action lawsuit regarding these transmissions. All they had to do was admit they had a bad product and take the cars back. They could have had a lifetime customer. In 2020 I am still waiting for a settlement from Ford since their transmissions were found to be defective.

Purchased the Focus Hatchback 2013 in Jan. and was very pleased with everything for the first week but the second week it began making noises upon acceleration and continued to get worse. Have had the Focus Hatchback for 2 months and was very pleased with everything for the first week but by the second week it was making noise when accelerating and cont. to get worse. I brought the car to the Dealership and they said they could not do anything till 1000 miles. I brought it back at 1000 miles but Ford says this problem is occuring on the 2013 Focus but the engineers do not know what the problem is so they can not fix it yet. They returned the car to me and told me to keep driving until the problem is fiqured out. This makes me very nervous, what could happen to it next. I would think about another car until they have fiqured these quirks out.
Ford can't fix it!
Drove it for 3.5 years before it died. Ford has had it in the shop for over 2 months, and now needs 3 more weeks to remove the EV battery, ship it to Detroit, get a repaired or replacement back and see if that fixes it. The way it died was scary - notice on dash said "pull over now". Stepped on accelerator and nothing happened. If I'd been on a busy freeway, I could have been in real trouble. I don't trust the car any more, but I can't get the stupid thing back from the shop to be able to sell it and get something I can trust. I will never own another Ford if there is any way I can help it.

HORRIBLE! Stay away!
I know of 2 other people who have owned this car and they all have hated it! I will never buy Ford again. I took it to the service department 4 times in 2 years. Once to have the clutch replaced (on a brand new car) and three more times to have the "transmission computer module reset" because according to the service department employees "there wasn't anything more they can do".

nothing to write home about
I've owned this for about 4 months and I was having difficulty with the auto transmission. I looked up some reviews/ technical information and found that Ford has a fix for the transmission issue and has even extended the warranty on these to 100,000 miles. Since buying it I've learned to get around the transmission problem that I was having by feathering the accelerator or hammering it (heavy footed). This vehicle has adaptive learning and it takes a while for it to understand the way you drive (1500 miles) no matter if you're the first owner or the tenth. Overall the cars fit and finish is just ok, nothing to write home about. This is my first automatic tranny small car and I just had to figure it out. Check out that warranty, no BS on that.

Transmission Improved
I bought this car in Thailand in April, 2013. I believe it is the same specification as the US car, with the 2.0 L engine. I am very impressed with the steering and handling, and build quality is excellent. On only 2 occasions, I had some problems with the AT. An oil leak was found by the dealer between the engine and the transmission. This was a major repair for a new car, to replace the seal and clutches. At first I was very disappointed to need such a repair in the 1st year, but after getting the car back, the transmission runs better than in any car (many) I have owned. it now runs better than when new, and I like it more than ever. Often cannot notice the gear changes!
Value and Wise Buy! 42 MPG Baby!!!
This care has never left me on the side of the road. I bought the manual transmission because the reviews were better and I don't care what the car was rated - I GET OVER 42 MPG on average! People - ethanol free fuel keeps a small engine running better and longer. I have over 150,000 mile on this car and it has been great. Yes, it is small but worth the savings!

Bad Transmission problems! I have had my car now for almost 3 years now. It's in the repair shop a second time for a bad transmission, fried computer, and burnt up clutch! This was my first newest car I ever bought and I am so disappointed with the Lemon Transmissions that Ford has put into these vehicles! I would highly recommend that anyone walk away form this year and any other year models that would have the same Transmissions! :-(

Love/hate relationship
I got this car mainly because I have always owned Fords and they have always been reliable. As far as getting me where I need to go, this car is reliable. I have a love/hate relationship with my car mainly because some days it will run exceptionally smooth and some days it sounds like the wheels are going to fall off and it shakes like the transmission is going to fall out. I have heard the whole "give it a few hundred miles" speech, and well, I have given it 8,000 with no change. It's mostly when I pull out, slow down and pick up speed again, or go up a steep hill that the transmission feels like its going to kick the bucket. But when it runs smooth, it runs smooth.
Weird Transmission
Ford tells me the unique characteristics of this car's transmission are normal. Normal should not mean it makes crunching noises or does not know when to switch gears, roll backwards or jerks. And fuel mileage is not what it should be and I suspect partly due to the transmission. That part is just a guess I will admit. Traded this car a few days ago for a Civic.
get the manual 5 speed, awesome car
I got this SE hatchback used in 2016 with 21k miles from original owner, now has 40k. The car is really the perfect car for commuting. The manual transmission is very smooth, fun to row through the gears and engine is adequate. Heard bad reviews on the automatic and glad to get the stick. The mpg is around 29 with mostly city driving and it's easy to park and looks sharp. Pros: value, seats are comfortable as is the driving position, fun to drive, good mpg. The minor quibbles: interior storage space is lacking, seat adjustment quirky, some plasticly parts on dash noisy. Since I got a great deal, I'm more than satisfied with car, but I'd gladly buy an updated version of this car with no hesitation. First American car for a long time, and I'm quite happy. Update: 51K miles and still running like new. super impressed with this little hatchback...it's stickshift SE model. It's a little tight for space as I always have alot of sports equipment. I have racks on top and the low roof is easy to load bikes. Only have replaced battery, front brakes and tires, very reliable so far.

Another Lemon DCT owner
3 clutch replacements, 2 TCM replacements and more software upgrades than can count, and 1 full transmission replacement. Currently at 46k miles. Bluetooth doesn't work, sync system is unreliable. Tons of intermittent problems that Ford can't replicate so they can't fix. The transmission is just completely dangerous, step on the gas 10 times and you will get 10 different responses. Sometimes the transmission can't decide what gear to go into and will constantly shift up and down, when this happens on the freeway you will change lanes to pass someone doing 70 and the transmission will keep shifting up and down until you coast to a stop. Everytime we take it in the shop they tell us "this will fix it." We bought the car with 10k miles on it 14 months ago for $17k, we now have 46k on it now and when we went to look at trading it in at the same dealer they offered $3k and told us they really don't want it due to the issues. This is a FORD dealer. 90% depreciation in one year and that was on a used car that already should have had the first big depreciation. Look at the latest consumer reports the focus and Fiesta's were rated 6/100. This is a bigger P.O.S than the PINTO. Also the transmission problems have us averaging 24mpg which they say is normal. (UPDATE: 5/23- 63,000 miles now. More clutch and TCM problems, dealers just tell you its the car "getting used to your driving style" and that the shuddering, chattering erratic, dangerous behavior is normal. Can't get 20K out of a set of 70k mile tires (properly inflated, maintained and rotated) as the chattering wears tires. Dealer has "reflashed the TCM" repeatedly and it does not get better. Dealer says its unfixeable but its not bad enough to fail their test to get Ford to pay for the "fix" that itself is only temporary. Easily worst car we've ever owned to the point we bought a Honda Fit to have something reliable and only drive this car when we absolutely have to.... UPDATE 2019.... Luckily the car was totalled in January of this year so I am finally rid of this lemon and last FORD product I will ever buy. We were rear ended and pushed passenger side first into an 18 wheeler at around 20mph, The car was totalled. The passenger side airbags all failed to deploy. When the fire department arrived on scene he removed the door by hand. Overall very disappointed in the way the car held up.

Mixed Feelings
I sold a 2011 Grand Caravan because my wife's Taurus X was falling apart and we needed to use my van as a down payment. We traded the focus on another Grand Caravan. It served its purpose as my daily driver and we even use it for family vacations with 3kids under 6. We have learned how to pack light. It gets 38-40 hwy mpg easy. I usually get 32 around town. For that I'm grateful. However, the issues with the transmission are true. It will act like it's stalling out every so often when shifting between 1st and 2nd. It also has a popping sound in the front left suspension at low speeds. This is "normal" according to Ford. Everytime I asked them to listen to to it I walk away with the same prob

Find Something Else
Purchased my car about 3 years old and about 42,000 miles. Loved the vehicle, interior and exterior looked sharp. Not to mention extremely efficient on gas. Within a year it started to have transmission issues. I brought it in as I found out it had a recall. Problem fixed. Within the next year, I had wiring issues, over $600 to fix. Well now three years out the original transmission problem has reared it’s head. However, was told they extended the recall to 150k (I am at 143k) later on to be told it was my clutch and that was only covered up to 100k. So, now looking at an almost $1,600 fix. To me it’s pretty shady that the recall is covered for two separate mileages, when the issue is one in the same. DO NOT BUY.

Transmission PROBLEMS!!!
I'm so disappointed in Ford SMH. I have a 2013 Ford Focus. My car is only 6 years old and I haven't alot of problems with this car. Main issue is the transmission. I have a car note which I been paying on for over 2 years now. My warranty is expire due too 2 years or 24 thousand miles which one ever come 1st. My car has 130,000 miles. Ford had alot of recalls on my car. Ford stating that my car is over 100,000 miles so it's nothing they can do about it regarding the recalls. They had over 2 recalls regarding the transmission in my car. So my car is about too shut down at any given moment and I will be stuck with out a car with a 3 year old. Repairs is over 2000 dollars to fix which I do not have being a single mom. I just want too cry everyday because it's nothing I can do about my car. Ford is selling bad vehicles to people and it's not right. Something need too be done soon. I do not recommend Ford too a single person.

Overall its an ALRIGHT car
So i never really looked at the reviews for my focus before i bought it. If i had to do this all over i probably wouldnt have purchased my car to begin with. The car has constant issues with the transmission (which the dealer says they cant fix). i have brought it in 3 seperate times and right off the bat the transmission and everything works fine, but with time it only gets worse and worse. Along with the VERY cramped backseat you mine as well go up a model and get the fusion. Car has incredible gas mileage with is probably the only upside about this car.
Best car I've owned so far
The 2013 Ford Focus hatchback has been the best car I've ever owned. I think it is getting a bad reputation here for the dual-clutch automatic manual transmission, which is easy to misunderstand as a "broken" automatic transmission. I enjoy it a lot and no issues with it after 114,000 miles. Things I like about the car include the stylish exterior and interior, comfortable seats, comfortable climate control, good visibility from the driver's seat, blind-spot side-view mirrors, decent sound system, and good acceleration in passing gear (assuming you can get the transmission to cooperate). Things I don't like about the car are the delays in shifting the automated manual when it doesn't engage the right secondary gear, lack of "sport mode" manual shift, connecting to Bluetooth audio (I must pull the voice command and say "Bluetooth Audio" every time I start the car), small screen, large and messy center console with an alpha-numeric keypad (?) instead of a larger screen, and no backup camera. It is an excellent car for an excellent value, not without fault, but I would recommend highly.
