Mike's Review
I was pleasantly surprised by the new 2005 Escape...it has good pickup and a newly revised, high quality interior. I would definitely recommend it to those in the market for a compact SUV.

Very Nice
It is a very nice looking vehicle and drives very comfortable. The interior is comfortable and is user friendly. I also like the intelligent 4WD system.
Hybrid SUV -- Feels Like Cheating
I simply love my Escape Hybrid. I have all the room I need for the wife, 2 kids, and the dog in the back, and yet I regularly get fuel economy close to 30 mpg average per tank.
Enjoyable driving!!
Keep up the great quality that you put into your new units. The best thing you can do is to test drive a new Escape and enjoy all the great features the SUV has!
Great Escape (2005)
I have owned my '05 Escape for just over 2 months and have already logged 3,500 miles. I did my homework on the competition before buying and found the Escape the best choice over all. Not one single problem to date. Rides & drives great, V6 power and good fuel economy. City/hwy mileage consistently between 23 & 25 mpg. Excellent seating position and visibility. Not too crazy about the step bars, but on the plus side, may help protect against door dings while in the parking lots. Over all, I'm a satisfied customer.
Former SUV hater loves his Escape
I've been looking at purchasing this vehicle for a few years, and did a lot of a research. Great vehicle - my first NEW vehicle. I don't think I will ever want to drive a car again.
Fun in Wheels
I've had my Escape for a short time, but I love it! It has great room inside, compared to other suv's in its class. The ride is awsome, and its a quiet car. THE V-6 engine is responsive. I've previously owned toyotas, so I was surprised that the interior quality is every bit as good as japanes cars. The escape handles very well and you always feel in control. Anyone who's looking for a small suv , would be silly not to check out this american gem!
Glad I waited
My first SUV. Went for the 4 cylinder. Great on gas, over 22 mpg average. Extremely comfortable ride, easy to manage in traffic. Interior well designed, a real joy to drive. All the creature comforts of a sedan with the storage and security of a 4 wheel drive. Lots of leg room in the back. Really hugs the wet and snowy roads. Best vehicle I ever owned in 41 years of driving.
Nice Little Ride
This car is a fun SUV. It can hold lots of cargo as well as people. The motor is very peppy and seems to want to go with little effort. I love the new headlights on the 2005 as well as the new center floor shifter.
Awesome
I really love my new ford escape. I tested the jeep liberty, and the Xtera, the escape definately drives alot better. smooth ride. The All wheel drive (4 x 4) works really good too. It is a very comfortable car. We have a new baby, and I feel very safe in this vehicle. I would have really liked to wait for the hybrid, but I needed a new car for the summer.
2005 Ford Escape
Perfect vehicle for retired couple. Really fun to drive. Easy to park, lots of pep. Just wish the gas tank was larger.
747 Review
I was looking for a new SUV that would give better gas mileage and performance than my Jeep Cherokee. I found it in my new Limited Escape. The 6 is really snappy and I get 20+ miles in combo driving. For a less expensive SUV I got a great deal and am very satisfied.
My Escape
It's great, I downsized from an Explorer. I bought the car on Saturday and left for a 2500 mile trip on Sunday.
Wonderful
I really love our little suv. It's better on gas then the regular SUV's and it just fits better. I'm not as nervous about hitting something because it's in a blind spot.
Great vehicle
This is a great vehicle. It's looks are so much better than the extreme looks of the competition. It's just an all around great suv for the price.
Hot little car!
I 've only had the car for a month but I love it....it handles great and has lots of get-up-and-go. (Great V6 engine) I like the optional ways you can put in cargo...via door or window. The controls are all within easy reach...which was a problem for me before now. You can adjust everything quickly...and easily. You can easily get in and out of the car ....no stooping or gyrating to get in ....or hoisting yourself up to get out.
A nice small SVU
So far, it has been unfailingly reliable. Mine is a very early example of the 2005 year. I have the 4 wheel drive version; the 4 wheel drive is just flawless. You don't generally notice when it engages, but traction is there all the time. Great room for an SUV of this class - but why don't they make them six inches wider? They'd do better to eliminate the floor console and install under-seat bins.
2005 Escape
I have had no complaints at all. It has reasonable acceleration, but I always prefer more. 85% US parts beats the foreign junk competition and supports our US companies and workers. Drives like a car, not a UPS truck like the ugly CRV. Plenty of room on the inside for taller people and the interior is significantly nicer than the '04. Plenty of cargo room, especially with the seats folded down. Gas milage hovers around 19 for city driving.
It's a great little SUV
It is a great fun vehicle to drive. It is reliable and a great vehicle to travel in with the family. It has plenty of room, very comfortable and still isn't as big as most of the other SUV's that are on the road. It's perfect for a smaller family. And our Lab loves riding in the back area.
2005 Ford Escape Limited with 20
This 2005 Ford Escape Limited is the first SUV Ive Bought. I dont think you could find an SUV that is this quiet. There is no tire or wind noise. Interior is awsome, with premium leather seats, heated of coarse.Lots of pep with the 3.0 V6, and the gauges and controls are very nice.
Great vehicle
Read Edmunds.com reviews prior to purchase and previous comments were on target in regard to benefits and limitations. My choice was between the full size Explorer and the Escape. Feel I got a better value (considering my needs and affordability)buying the XLT Excape versus an XLS Explorer. Lots of zip with the V-6, feels sporty and more car-like. Console shifter a plus. Love the cargo space and the fact that the rear seats fold flat. It fits my two needs-- haul a few passengers comfortably or haul some gear efficiently. Looking forward to driving this vehicle on an upcoming road vacation.
My great Escape
The Ford dealer and the great vehicle make this the best vehicle I have ever purchased. The Escape does everything a big SUV does. I looked at the CR-V and a RAV4 and they just did not match up to the Escape.
Hybrid for the highway driver
I thought I was going to buy a Toyota Highlander, but after comparing the two wound up with the Escape. This is my first American vehicle and I've been surprisingly happy with it considering how much I've hated some US-made rental cars. The interior controls are comfortingly similar to the Mazda I gave up (probably due to the fact that Escape was originally a joint Ford-Mazda project). The shift between gas and electric is imperceptible unless you're looking at the tach. The CVT and regenerative brakes give the car a slightly different feel than other cars, but not in a bad way. I do a lot of highway driving (24,000 miles a year) and have 6,000 miles in 3 months.
This is my second one!
I have been driving an Escape since 2001 and love them! They are quiet, comfortable and quite fuel efficient. The changes to the interior in the 2005 models are great - the storage compartment and gear selector on the floor should have been there all along. I can carry all the things necessary for a family vacation since the cargo area is nicely sized. But it still looks like a grown up car when it is date night on Saturday. I feel safe in the car and never worry when one of the kids borrow it
2005 - A True Winner
I am a life-long GM owner. I recently took a chance and bought the 2005 Ford Escape. It is by far the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever owned! The only drawback is the fuel economy - around 14/15 mph. The 2005 Ford Escape - a true Winner!!
Very Satisfied
I recently traded in my Jeep Cherokee which I loved but had a lot of maintenance problems with it. I decided on the Ford Escape and it went through its first winter with no problems. I love the cargo space which is more than the Ford Explorer 2004 has in it. Enjoy. Definitely a great buy.
A great compact SUV
It is the perfect size-- compact enough for the petite driver yet roomy enough for the average male.
great little suv
drives great, very comfortable, and looks great, we traded in our sedan in and don't regret it.
The Great Escape
A classy, efficient vehicle. Was amazed at the fuel economy when compared with my 2001 Escape. I like it very much!
Great Performance
This is my second hybrid, the first with a CVT. After getting "used" to how the transmission drives the car, the characteristics of electric assist, and the general drive of the SUV, we are now averaging well over 30 MPG. The dealer has been very good, and to date, we've had no problems whatsoever. We expect to be able to push this to 35 MPG by the end of the summer.
Breaks
The rims of the front tires keep having break dust on them. Cannot keep clean. The service manager said all FORD trucks have that problem. I can not accept that as I have had many vehicles before and most recently have had 3 diffrent types of vehicles (Nissan, Chevy truck & Saturn)and have never had this problem before!
GREAT CAR
THIS IS MY SECOND NEW CAR AND I LOVE IT. IT HANDLES GREAT. I RESEARCHED ALL THE OTHER CARS IN IT'S CLASS AND THIS OFFERED THE BEST DEAL. ALSO IT HAS MUCH MORE INTERIOR SPACE THAN THE OTHERS WHICH I FOUND HELPFUL. PLENTY OF SPACE IN BACK FOR MY DOG.
Sonic Blue First Review
My 78 year old mother bought this sonic blue hybrid SUV. She is still trying to figure out some of the technology, but loves it. Seats could be a little more "cushiony"; pretty firm, for an older lady with not much fat (and me too), more plumpness in the seating would be nice. Was told it has "intelligent 4WD", meaning it puts itself into 4WD when it needs to; would be nice to have a light or something on the instrument panel that shows when it is actually in 4WD. But so far we love this little hybrid SUV! Oh yeah, sometimes there is a pretty loud "thump" when the electric engine kicks in, like while sitting at a light, that kinda freaks you out, I thought what the heck just hit my car?
edwin
Fun to drive. Worst every buck.
FORD Escape 2005
This is my first SUV and it fits me perfectly. My wife and I both enjoy riding it.
My SUV
I drive 20 miles to work and back every day. I also drive to Chicago 60 miles round trip three times a week, My Escape has never failed to perform for me. The gas mileage is above average with 24 combined city and country mpg. I also carry a good size load in my cargo area weekly. My husband and I enjoy its guts and the features we chose.
Good Mileage and Fun to Drive
I expected to get better gas mileage, but did not expect the actual mileage to be within the "published" range. However I AM getting between 29-33 mpg on a regular basis. The display module showing constant fuel economy, and the GPS navigation make the vehicle FUN.. Also the sound system is much better that I expected from a factory built-in. All in all, a really fun vehicle to drive, with good gas mileage (and a lot of questions from potential buyers everywhere I go).
Right size & Fun to Drive
I've had my 2005 Escape Limited 4WD for 3 months now and absolutely love it. It is a lease, but I'm already planning to buy it when the lease comes up. It is the perfect size for communting and still has plenty of room to haul people or goods. The power to weight ratio makes it a blast to drive, and it is especially nimble off-road. The vehicle feels rugged and solid and I feel like it is a very good value for the money. I'll cover the main likes/dislikes in the next 2 sections, but the bottom line is I would buy this vehicle again in a heartbeat.
Escape to Ford
A midsize SUV at a good price. Handles better than the Toyota CRV that i owned before this one also larger than the Toyota. I wish it had a door in the rear like the Toyota CRV had. The hatch back is ok, but i prefer a door. Door is much easier to open and close when taking things in and out. Other than the door issue the Escape is a solid SUV. (needs a built in ashtray, LOL)
Love it
Fun to drive, smooth.... Love it. Take a test drive if you want a small SUV.
We really like our Escape
We looked at all the models available in this class and this one came out heads above the rest
Driving an SUV
I like the size of the SUV, the gas mileage and it is SO MUCH fun to drive
so far so good
Not that much of a downgrade (roomwise) from my Explorer Sport. Handles good, blast package worth the money for the sound system. Not tons of power but knew that was an issue before buying (better on gas). Average 20-21 mpg with 24 being the best with just over 3000 miles on vehicle.
05 escape
Great SUV fun to drive plenty of power. The size is just right for getting in to tight parking places not like some of the gun boats that have to back in and out three times to get into parking areas, but plenty of room inside to transport all my stuff.
2005 Escape is well worth the $$$$
This vehicle is living up to my expectations. Although the cruise control went out on a trip, the vehicle has performed well. Unfortunately, the seats (covered in cloth) are easily soiled. Mine came soiled. So you might want to consider fabric protection treatment.
Pretty Good Little SUV
This vehicle handles very well in the snow and in the everyday around town driving. However it is VERY VERY VERY sluggish on the highway or going up hills. Also the cruise control is not very good (you will either go 5 mph under or 5 mph over where you have the cruise control set). If you are looking for a vehicle to commute in, TRY THE 6 cylinder or another vehicle all together! If you are looking for a cheap, reliable SUV to get around town in, this is the one for you.
Ford Owner Family
Very practical and fun vehicle. Just the right vehicle for the Northeasts quickly changing weather conditions. This unit has all the bells and whistles anyone could want in a package this size. Loads of cargo space with the seats down for stocking up on supplies.
The Great Escape
Its perfect
Great ride
I love my new escape. It rides and looks great. I wish the gas milage was alittle better especially with the price of gas. I looked at all small SUV's and felt the escape was the best out there.
