Great Escape
It's a pretty good car. except the interior..
Waste of Money
Very disappointed. At 40K, I needed new front brakes?!? the windows screech like nails on a chalkboard when in cold weather. I had to have the moonroof fixed.

much better than expected
The car has performed better than expected in all areas, especially in fuel efficiency. I get about 26 mpg. Engine performs well and is smooth for 4 cylinder. I can go over 400 miles on a full tank of gas. Plenty of power to get up exteneded hill climbs and performes well on winding roads. Turning radius is excellent, an unexpected surprise.
2002 Escape
The 2002 Escape 2WD XLT Premium is a fun SUV to drive and has plenty of cargo space. The only complaint is the shift mechanism for the automatic gets in the way of the way of stereo controls.
Great Escape!
About 3500 miles thus far and no problems. My 2002 Escape is a very good ride and handles the road and cornering very well. The car platform helps with quick maneuvering. The Escape is my first SUV and I'm enjoying every ride, especially with the coming of winter.
Midnight Edition
I love this vehicle. It's fun to drive and it's great looking. Ford, though, really skimped on some features, especially interior lighting. For example, there is no light for the ignition keyhole and many of the operating controls are painted on in white with no backlighting for dark roads. A compass and outside temp gauage would have been nice as well as a little less plastic inside.
Love my 2002 Escape
Powerful, sporty, and fun to drive. Perfect size for our small family plus groceries and dogs. We absolutely love the car. One caution: we originally had a 2001 model which we also loved but had a problem which would cause the engine to stall when decelerating at about 40mph which Ford could not fix at the time (see NHTSA web site for info). After four attempts to fix, Ford respected the California Lemon Law and replaced our 2001 (with over 25,000 miles on it) with an identical 2002 model for only $800. The new one is working perfectly so far with 4,000 miles on it.
Loads of fun
Having owned a Mustang GT and a Taurus, I find the Escape a great combination of both. A sporty drive and room for people and stuff. It corners impeccably, yet the handling is forgiving. I have a 70 mile commute each day, and take road trips into the mountains. The Escape is at home on the highway and back roads, as long as they are paved. Since many of the parts are shared with a Taurus, I have had some of the same HV/AC problems with the Escape.
excellent
The Escape has been perfect. No problems. It's fast, comfortable, and very fun to drive, especially for a SUV.
