Used 2002 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Consumer Reviews
Great refined Truck
This is one great Truck! It handling is far superior to any truck I have driven, I have a lot of fun following a mustang on a narrow mountain road and watching the expression on the driver in front of me when he has a heck of a time to get rid of me. I have loaded this truck to and beyond its load capacity and it has performed well as far as handling and power is concerned. As soon as you have the over drive off the annoying Down shift up shift cycle is avoided most of the time. Did I mention that it is huge inside? You have ample room and with a folding metal tray under the rear seats you have plenty of space to load whatever your heart desires.
Buy the 5.9L
The 2002 rams interior was nicer than the 2003, i owned both. Dodge cheaped out on the 2003. Seems to be more plastic. More plastic on doors, no overhead sunglasses holder, trim on bottom of doors is gone, no tinted window on 2003. Wish i would have stayed with the 2002. Anybody that says the 4.7L is a better choice than the 5.9L, never had one.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SB 6cyl Review
My 2002 Dodge P/U has 10k mile on it now and I have had it for about 9 months. I have no complaints about the vehicle at all. It is fun to drive, gets reasonable fuel economy (3.7L) averages 18.0 mpg. Clutching/shifting is easy and precise. Probably the biggest item of note is the excellent braking - very nice. The oil is easy to change and overall I just like it.
Gas Mileage?
Great vehicle hands down. First time Dodge owner and probably will buy again. The 5.9L needs more punch and gas mileage per cubic inch (willing to accept low MPG for more HP). Sport Package should come with header/exhaust system upgrade. The 4 speed Auto shift/downshift points need another look at (would be fine with beefier motor). CD player skips on bumpy roads. Excellent built vehicle, ride is comfortable, and room for everything.
No Complaints after 5 years
Bought when it first hit the lot. Had some problems with the speed sensor, but fixed. Still get 15+ MPG in city and 18-19 hwy. Replaced front and rear bumpers like all good Texans. Now it is a tank. Have had nothing but compliments on its looks and ride from friends and family. Hauled may loads of hay in Texas heat with no problems. Tows like there is nothing behind it. Could get better MPG but as said before it is a truck and one that even Tim Allen would be proud of.
