2014 SRT8 Challenger Review
The Challenger is a big, heavy girl make no mistake about it. It gets terrible gas mileage as a result. But if you are in the market for a muscle car and gas mileage is a concern, perhaps you need to rethink your decision. It has some blind spots due to its size. Its way better than muscle cars of yesteryear in terms of fit/finish/braking and handling. But it is still a growling, snarling beast that you hear and feel almost every step of the way. She can be a civilized daily driver if you want it to be, but there is no escaping knowing what is lurking just under the surface. If you understand what a real muscle car SHOULD be then you will appreciate this car as a homerun in look and attitude
Challenger 2013 SXT Rally Redline
I traded in my 2010 Mustang Premium coupe for a 2013 SXT Challenger due to a defect discovered in the Mustang after my warranty conveniently expired. It's a very different ride. I got the rally redline package with all of the bells and whistles. Black with over the top red stripes and 20" tires with red rims. Leather, heated seats, navigation, BA speakers in the trunk, sun roof, reverse sensor to compensate for the blind spot when backing up, proximity keys and touch to start. Very comfortable ride, good pick-up in a straight line. It's got chunky handling around corners at higher speeds- my mustang really gripped the road. Handles much better than the ford in inclement weather. I'm happy.
LOVE MY ORANGE SXT PLUS
Amazing power for a 6 cylinder car. Stunning orange color with sharp black graphics. Have gotten more compliments on this car than i did on my silver 1997 C5 Corvette. Smooth riding, corners well and has plenty of pep, considering that it is not a Hemi!

Jazz Blue Beast
I love my Challenger! I special ordered a R/T base with some options (HID Headlights, Sound Group II, Sunroof). Power from the 5.7 is adequate, but it isn't exactly fast considering how heavy the car is. I solved that little problem with a ProCharger, now it moves with authority like an SRT8 (490 wheel horsepower), but without the insurance costs. It's big, roomy, and for the most part, comfortable. Enormous trunk. I do have a hard time finding a comfortable driving position for long drives though. The car would benefit greatly from either more telescoping in the steering column, power adjustable pedals, or moving the shifter (6spd) back farther toward the driver. The car rides like a Cadillac. Optional HID headlights work very well, and are bi-xenon, so you get both low & high beams in HID. Optional mid-level stereo (Sound Group II) is absolutely amazing. You can crank any type of music up to full volume with no distortion. The first thing you'll want to do is toss the 18" "green" low rolling resistance Michelins in the garbage, and get a set of proper tires to keep from roasting rubber. Then, you'll need to get a Barton shifter to keep from constantly missing 3rd, and to eliminate the ridiculous throw from 4-5. A skip shift eliminator or programmer is also mandatory. I didn't buy a manual transmission to be forced to shift from 1 to 4!!!!!!! Bluetooth "works", but takes quite some time to pair. And quite some time again when it un-pairs right after you get out on the road! And don't bother turning off the incoming SMS message alert... no matter how many times you turn this confounded feature OFF, it still breaks into the music for EVERY single text message. A new aftermarket head unit is in my near future. The voice recognition sucks. If you need to call "home", good luck. I'm not sure how the engineers who designed the voice recognition system talk, but I have tried every conceivable way of saying "home", and the car simply refuses to call home. There is an option that allows the car to learn your voice. It's a joke, don't bother wasting your time. I love the retro styling, but it does make for some LOUSY outward visibility to the sides. Lane changes are basically floor it and pray you can get ahead of whoever may happen to be in that ENROMOUS blind spot. If blind spot detection had been available in 2014, I'd have ordered it for sure. If you get the 6spd (of course you did, who buys an automatic muscle car?!) do yourself a favor and get the resonators removed right away. It makes the car sound like it should have from the factory. There is no drone on the 6spd (autos drone and sound like crap when MDS kicks in, you're better off leaving the stock exhaust in place)

Modern Muscle, Vintage Vibe
R/T base with the 6spd manual, Sound Group II stereo, HID headlights, and a sunroof. This thing is quick. So far, I've seen an avg. of 4.85 seconds on the 0-60 timer in the info center. The transmission shifts smooth and precise, excellent for stock. Love the pistol grip. The torque curve is as flat as Montana, and twice as big. This thing sounds amazing for a stock exhaust, nice growl under acceleration, but barely audible at highway speeds. Excellent ride quality, and it's library quiet at 70 mph. HID headlights are amazing, both low & high beams. The stereo is also excellent, plenty of bass. Never seen less than 19 mpg, and a peak of 23 so far.
Flawless after three years
Last year I had difficulty in deciding whether to buy a Charger or Challenger. I bought the Charger and liked the Dodge product so much that this year I bought a Challenger. Both are RT's. The Charger was a better value but the Challenger is a great car. A lot of people want to compare the Challenger to the Camaro and Mustang. This is a huge mistake. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. For pure speed and handling the Challenger will never compete with the Camaro or Mustang. For comfort, room and road presence the Camaro and Mustang are not in the same class as the Challenger.I like all three cars and I am not brand loyal at all. I bought an RT Plus in Granite Metallic, just Beautiful. UPDATE 3-31-16. It has been 3 years since I purchased my Challenger RT. I have not had a Single issue with the car. I only drive it in fair weather and there is 4900 miles on the odometer. It has not been back to the dealer since I bought it. I dressed up the interior with some parts from Fast Hemis.com. I put an active 3" exhaust on it and a free flowing air cleaner. Other than that it is stock. I retired in 2014 and sold my Corvette and kept the Challenger. It is far more comfortable and practical.

I've had this car for two years and I regret my purchase. Within the first three months, the electronic system crashed and left me stranded for two hours. The dealership said they couldn't identify the issue and it was in the shop for two days. A year later, my window motor broke. It took a different dealership four days to fix the issue. Four months after they fixed the window motor, it broke again. Leaving me unable to use my car because it was stuck in the up position and it wouldn't allow my door to close. It took the dealership nine days to repair the window because every single part of the window motor system had to be replaced and reprogramming the car took another two days. This car has more down sides than up, I would not recommend to anymore. It's just a money pit.

Soaked in my Challenger
So far I had a heating problem where the heat system would start with the blowing cold air.Took 4 trips to the service center and it is still not fixed a hundred percent.Next all the bearings fell out of the seat.Had to wait a week for parts. Then I got a recall notice telling me the alternater could stop working with no notice shutting the car down completely.Imagine driving out 65 and all the sudden you have no power steering, power brakes,no ABS system,No windshield wipers and no lights. And Dodge told me this was not putting me in harms way.It took 4 months to get replacement parts. Also the alternater could catch fire at any time.Next the airconditioning system started blowing a water mist into the cab of the car.At first I was told all systems do that,I told them BULL.They came back and told me the drain on the system was clogged. They said because of this the duct system had mildew in it and would have to be disenfected. Charged me over 200 dollars.Three weeks later I have mist again.WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER DODGE EVER.I am updating my review.Nothing has changed, the heat system is still not fixed.I still would not recommend buying a Dodge. What good is a warranty if they just refuse to fix the problem.I have filled numerous complaints, but they were all ignored.Think twice!!!!! Just took my challenger for an oil change.I was first in line, took me 3 hours to get my car back.they asked me why I had not brought my car in for the air bag recall. They had fixed it that day but I never recieved a recall notice until a week later.I was told the air bag inflater could have exploded causing bodily injury to someone sitting in the passenger seat.Yet Chrysler never put anyone in harms way.Car is now 5 years old and Chrysler still says there is no problem with the heat system.Yet it still does not work. Think twice.Just had the oil cooling unit group.Took two months to get the part.

My sheep in wolf's clothing
I have a 2014 Challenger SXT plus I bought used with 3400 miles on it. The owner was facing hip replacement surgery and traded it on a Dodge Durango R/T. The car is snappy for a V-6 with 305 HP. Back in my youth 300 horsepower was a big deal and you generally had to have 300 cubes or more to acheve that. I did not like the stock exhaust, (it sounded like a Stratus) so I replaced it with aftermarket glass packs. Not a V-8 rumble, but a nice throaty growl now. The package included leather and looks great, The plastics are a bit hard and cheaper looking, but this is the base model after all. The package also includes black 5 spoke wheels. I fail to understand the carping about handling, It's not a rocket on rails, but handles quite well, for a large, heavy car.I live in the Allegheny Mountains in South central PA and have lots of opportunities to drive it on the "twistys". I am currently having a worrisome issue with the check engine light coming on in a steady fashion that will need addressed after Labor Day. So I won't be driving it until it is rectified. But make no mistake , I love the Challenger. People still admire the car,I get lots of looks and thumbs up. ( It's the car, not me :-))

Fun American Muscle
This car had the shifttronic auto :(, but still allowed full rev to each gear and downshifting. Did a 0-60 test, yielded 5.5 with some wheelspin, not bad. Seemingly very powerful. Throws you back when you gas in almost every gear. Passing on the highway is great dropped to third. Very fun car to drive. Fantastic stereo system and Sirius radio. Lots of trunk space. Back seats are actually quite comfortable for me at 6'. Projector beam HID lights for night driving seem adequate. Leather is nice and not too plush for easier care then some competitive Euros like my personal VR6.
It is a Wow! Style, comfort and grear mpg!
Fantastic car for the price of a boring generic sedan. Looks good, sounds great - V-8 rumble. Gets 20 to 28 mpg - really! and yes I know what the sticker says. Also, goes pretty well in the snow with Blizaks and 200lbs of sand.

Hidden Gem
When this vehicle was first introduced in 08 and i saw one on the road it quickly brought me back to sitting in the classroom in my HS in CT mid 70's watching muscle cars of that era occasionally zipping by with a roar and garnering the attention of a select few of the boys in the classroom. Fast forward to today and the fascination of the cars are now captivating a new generation while extending the opportunities of yesteryear to those of us who now have the means in participating in the ownership of one of these great machines. The Chevelle SS was always my favorite with the 69-70 Challenger a close second. No modern era Chevelle's, so the SRT 8 is it, AND BOY I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!
Great American muscle car !
I purchased my Challenger after having test driven the stable of options available to the American muscle car enthusiast. For the sake of fairness I even test drove the usual host of available imports only to be floored by the performance and value the Challenger R/T packed. The ride quality is exceptional (even on long road trips), the construction quality is outstanding and the cost of ownership has been remarkably low considering this car is a full on monster. My car came equipped with an "eco" feature that nets me an average of 27 mpg on the freeway and comes on/shuts off seamlessly should the occasion arise when you would need to plant some of that power to the ground. I've owned other muscle cars in the past and I have to say that dollar for dollar the Dodge Challenger R/T is one hell of a bang for your buck !

Looks and Power at a Bargain
Dealer options: Blacktop Package This car totally changes its character with the Super Track Pak (STP). Reviews peg the manual RT as the fat girl of the muscle car bunch. But with the suspension and steering upgrades the Challenger elevates to porn-star like proportions. And it's just as much fun to drive. I was a Japanese import fanboy for +10 years and fantasized about buying a BRZ. However just one test drive in the Dodge changed my mind. Power is sexy, and the RT moves just as well as it looks. Buying a 150ft-lb BRZ over this 410ft-lb beauty would be a mistake; and for the same price!

Could not be any better.
I bought this used with 42,000 miles on it. From a dealer with a very clean Carfax. It now has 104,000 absolute trouble free miles on it. Wide wheelbase gives a very good ride on the highway. I've had people compliment me on the ride. 2013 and has not let me down. The V6 has plenty of pep and good on gas. Update..No problems at 116,000 miles...update at 131,000 miles. Needs a few sensors, ( which I'm about to replace myself). Still great on gas, runs like a dream

rt classic auto
Have owned my RT classic for three years and have over 9,000 miles on it. The car is great looking black with red side stripe. Rides very comfortably and I average 27 mpg highway at 70 to75 mph. The 5.7 motor also runs on regular gas as apposed to the larger motors that require premium gas. The interior is very good quality, red and black leather. The dash board some complain about being out dated, but looks similar to the original 70s. As I wanted to stay looking like the 70 challenger I went with the classic with the polished mags , and don't mind the older style dash. Car runs great goes when you want it to and can be used as a every day driver. Only complaint is the exhaust isn't load enough.

Four years of driving pleasure.
I had a problem with the brakes - warped rotors - that didn't become noticeable until after the warranty expired. Other than that, the car was a great daily driver and gave me 30,000 miles of fun driving. Loved the entertainment and blue tooth. One of the best cars I've owned. I have since traded for a 2018 Challenger Hellcat.

Nightmare
This car gets a 10 in looks and design. A 2 on handling, very bumpy ride. When it comes to repairs they are very pricey. I recently replaced a steering angle sensor that was causing the traction control light to come on. Dealership price for this part was 590 plus 300 for labor. I went online and got it from another dealer for 387 including shipping. The engine rattles horribly and it can be heard inside the car with the windows down. This car I purchased had 41,000 miles 5000 miles later I had to have all the lifters replaced this would have cost me close to $2000 but luckily the car was under powertrain warranty so Dodge covered it.It has bad blind spots ,hard to see thru the quarter glass. The MDS technology does not help save gas,in fact it's the activating and deactivating of these 4 cylinder cycle that causes the hemi tick and engine failure.

Nice Car
Strongly consider your options as to whether or not you want to purchase and SXT, R/T, SRT, SCAT PACK, etc. As o could see how you might want more power after driving the ACT if you are a car enthusiasts. I love the car, and considering the fact that I am in college and on a budget the SXT fit my budget. Still great performance out of the 5.7 Liter V6. Fun car, and definitely speaking to the eye. You won't be dissapointed. I can't speak to much to the reliability because I have only owned a month. If you go for the ACT you may want to do as I did and replace your head unit for a better entertainmenr experience. I like the fact that the challenger is for the most part easy to customize.

Looks great, reliability extremely poor
Been a mopar fan most of my life and have owned many dodge trucks. Bought a 2013 R/T one owner Challenger with low miles. Bought the extended warranty (thank God) because the car had just 50,000 and was 4 years old at time of purchase. To make a long painful story short, the engine started making a tapping sound shortly after purchase within first 500 miles of ownership. I took it to my local dealer for a new alternator (under a recall) and the dealer said it needed new lifters ($3500). Luckily, the warranty covered it but soon after the engine started clattering and blow-up. Dealer said needed new motor and that they have replaced many hemis due to dry cylinders with deactivation. New engine was $10,000 which the extended warranty didn't want to cover but under duress from attorneys decided to pay-up. Drove the car to another dealership that day to sell it to them and paid $500 of my own money just to get out from under the payments. That is the last Dodge I will buy newer than a 2005. My 2005 Ram 1500 Hemi WITHOUT the Multi-Displacement System has just over 190,000 miles and runs like new. Buyer beware and do some research about the issues with hemis and lifters, etc.

Great but huge
There is nothing bad I can say about this car. I loved how it drove, rode, how it felt safe. My main and only issue was that it doesn’t have good visibility when reversing which a back up camera would help. Mine didn’t have one. And that it’s a big car so navigating it down the tint neighborhood streets of Los Angeles was a pain. But otherwise it’s a great safe, fast, and dope looking car.

Cool looking car
I really like the Challenger. The 5 speed automatic seems like it is always searching for a gear at lower speeds. Within the 1st 50,000 miles, many components failed such as steering angle indicator, blender motor, and light switch.

10 years later, still awesome
I have owned this car since new, more than 10 years now. I said it then, and I'll say it now, the STR8 Challenger is the best GT car I've ever driven. If you want to cover miles, there is not a better way to do it. It may not be the fastest Challenger anymore, but it's faster than most. Handling is very good, ride is excellent and it even gets good fuel economy on those long road trips. 22+ mpg and I don't drive with a light foot. You don't even need the excellent sound system, the exhaust system does a nice job of setting a mood. It runs and drives as good now as the day I bought it. Really sad that 2023 is the end of the road for this generation.

NOT A FLAW
Incredible condition for 2013, like new. Was unable to find any flaws, not even a rock chip. Car runs and drives great. It should have been pretty nice with only 4500 miles but even with that you expect something to be a little off some were but not the case. The dealer was excellent to work with, All in all a great experience.

Muscle Car for those that appreciate muscle cars
It has the nostalgic look but with newer technologies. It's the only muscle car that has a real back seat and ample trunk. It is a great riding car for trips and handles well but because of its weight would not be the best choice for taking curves. Seems like Dodge should be able to get a bit more mileage out of the RT model 5.7 L engine. Still looking for the right one for the right price as the 2014 RT Centennial I almost purchased had balky shifts on the upper gears
