2024 Silverado RST w/ 5.3. The Good & The Bad

2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 10A)

I will preface this review by comparison with the 2018 Silverado LTZ: THE BAD 1) The Google info-tainment system is a downgrade because unless you pay a monthly fee its crippled. In addition, the ability for the system to "Read" my USB flash drive and allow me to use voice to ask for a particular song is non-existent and strangely wont recognize the same drive i used in my 18 Silverado. Furthermore I can't even manually search/select a track from USB while driving. So only way is to only let each track play in either random or sequential order. Boo, cant tell 4gb USB drive what song to play :( 2) The wireless charging feature works intermittently and needs to be constantly fiddled with to re-connect 3) The fog lights are almost useless and do little compared to the ones on my 2018 Silverado, which really provided the proper amount of light to cut through fog 4) What the hell happened to the overhead counsel, sun glass holder. Gone! 5) Nag screen, that always begs me to buy monthly data plan. Boo! 6) Seems to be a harsher ride compared to the 2018 LTZ 7) Center counsel storage is neither convenient to access or spacious THE GOOD 1) A bit better gas millage due to lighter weight aluminum body parts and 10 speed trany 2) A bit better towing due to more aluminum body parts and 10 speed trany 3) 1st maintenance visit is free 4) Much better view of the road due to redesign 5) More spacious interior. Basically, the truck is certainly improved but not a great value in several areas so Im disappointed. Hopefully some of the "Bad" will be addressed before im ready for a new truck

Updated dash and infotainment, lost other features

2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (2.7L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

I lease a 2024 Silverado and previously leased a 2021. The updates to the dash and infotainment system on the 2022 and new models is very nice, although the infotainment definitely has its glitches and bugs. However, what really took away my positives of this is that they removed the middle fold down cupholder armrest, removed the under back seat storage, and removed the rear sliding window from the LT, all of which the 2021 model had. These were big negatives for me and there still isn’t standard side mirror safety alerts. I will never buy a GM truck sadly, they feel poorly built and that Chevy is just trying to be the cheapest option. Fine to lease I guess but this will be my last Silverado.

Solid truck. Enjoyable to drive. Very strong.

The suspension, engine and drive train are very good. Power is excellent. The two things I dislike are 1) the auto stop/start and 2) the fact that the truck will not stop its alarming if your seatbelt is undone. Imagine driving around a site with your seatbelt undone listening to BEEP BEEP BEEP over and over and over again. It should at least delay 10 minutes between reminders. Outside of that the truck is pretty amazing.

Too expensive for a base pickup truck 44k

4 cylinder engine 12 mpg city driving, Too many buttons and lights on the dashboard with little pictures on them. Should have a standard step for the passengers to get in and out.

Quick note if you don't want to read all the below: Z71 stops great. Accelerates wonderfully. Rides nicely. Handles great. AC venting to rear seating is good. Basic tech is nice along with a cool badge Z71. :-) Have owned (3) Z71's. 1994, 2009, now a 2024. Exactly 15yrs between each. Odd, right. Traded in my 2021 GMC 1500 SLT X31 for a 2024 1500 LTZ Z71. (both 5.3l) I am a GMC guy. My favorite was my 2013 GMC SLT All Terrain. That truck was great. Pulled a bunch of people through the ice roads on 287 in the Winter of 2014/15. But I degrees. Purchase was random. Had a great deal at AutoNation NRH and I picked it up. Have 1k on it right now. Drives like a car. Hard turning has 0 body roll. Breaking is not as long and the suspension is not as mushy as my 2021 GMC. Suspension is crisp and has a small bounce but is not hard at all. Still getting used to the console electronic shift, keep reaching for the column. :-) Interior is pretty nice. 13in screen is easy to read. Bose system is good. AC vents on the rear console are higher so the air circulates well in the rear. The multi pro tailgate is greatness. Functions like auto side mirror retraction on lock and open on unlock is great! So far first 1k is great. Will update more as able.
