19 Mpg in city!

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 4dr Double Cab SB (4.3L 6cyl 6A)

This truck is not in Edmunds model description. I went from a 1998 Saturn "great car", to a Chevy Silverado 2 WD, WT extended cab with a V8. I had been spoiled with 34 mpg in the city and 42 mpg highway, for almost 19 years. With the first fill up of gas in this truck I averaged almost 19 mpg city driving. I'm very impressed with the truck so far. It is very quite, has plenty of power, and looks like it will get almost 2 times the mpg of my previous 83" Chevy pickup. But, with only 300 miles on it, I can't tell you much. I'll let you know in 19 years what I think ;) I had a hard time finding this truck. It seems like most trucks are loaded, 4 WD with 6 cylinders. For 1 mpg difference why buy a 6 cylinder? I really wanted to buy a extended cab with a 8' bed, but GM doesn't sell it in the 1500 trucks. I looked at the 2500's until I saw how bad the Mpg was! 6 Months in, and 4,000 miles. I'm averaging 15 - 17 Mpg in city. I've been making her work hard. Remodeled 2 houses since I got this truck. Average homeowner doesn't need the 8' bed. Heck I'm managing without! Many 1500# + loads. Several trips with16' beams with a tailgate extender and well flagged!! With tailgate down you can bring home 10' items pretty easily. Just brought home some (.25") 4" x 10" x 10' Steel Rectangular Tube, just flagged it! 18 month review. I have almost 11,000 miles. Still getting 15 - 17 in the city. Truck's running great. Remodeled another house, major repairs. In hind site, I should have bought a standard cab with an 8' box. My kids are old enough to both have their own cars and I only use the back seats once a month on average. Not worth the extra $9,000 or so extra for the back seats. Also an 8' box would have come in handy MANY times! I've pushed the loads accidentally over 2,000 #'s a few times. The trucks tires don't like it, best description would be wallowing like a boat!! But the the brakes and motor don't care! The suspension was not bottomed out so I ASSUMED I was still in the weight range. I wish GM would work on the mpg on the super duty trucks!!! I still love this truck! 24 Month review. 14,000 Miles. In the city this truck is still averaging 15.5 - 16.5 Mpg! I still love this truck. One round trip from Rochester Hills MI, to Caro MI. I didn't take the freeway, just a relaxing drive up M-24. 130 mile round trip, truck averaged 27.5 Mpg. Awesome! 2nd Trip from Rochester Hills, to Grayling MI, Averaged 72 mph on "75". I drove around in Grayling and surrounding areas also. When I got home I checked my mileage again. Averaged 24.3 Mpg for 525 mile round trip! This truck with the longer wheel base rides very smoothly on the freeway's. I have a Tonneau cover on the truck, so I'm sure that helps with the mileage. I still can't believe this truck can get those kinds of #'s. Great purchase. But, still wish I had just bought the standard cab. I rarely need the extended cab! 30 Months in. 16,000 miles. Truck is still running GREAT, and averaging 16+ miles per gallon in the city. Does decent in the snow. 48 Month review. 24,000 miles. At 80 mph mileage will suffer. I recently drove up north for a vacation at higher speeds and mileage dropped to 19. On the way back drove at around 72 and again averaged 25 mpg. I still can't believe a truck can get this good of mileage. I also own a 2008 Chevy impala and this car doesn't get as good mileage as the truck at highway speeds! The truck is still working GREAT, and I'm very happy for the purchase! 5 Year review. Last winter the sensors on the tire pressure went haywire. But, as soon as the temp's came back up it went back to normal. And that's the reason I don't buy LOADED vehicles. If you only plan to own a vehicle for 3 years it doesn't matter. But if you plan to own a car for 10+ years like I do, it DOES. Truck is pushing on 27K miles. I drove almost zilch during covid-19. I'm still getting 16 or so Mpg in city and 25 Mpg on the highway as long as I drive under 72. Still a great purchase. No maintenance needed yet, just oil changes. Though I plan to buy a new battery soon. 6 Year review. I needed 2 new front tires at 35K. And will need two more next summer. I put light truck tires on the rear for a stiffer ride "increased payload capacity on tires", when carrying a heavy load. It was a good decision. The truck now has 35,000 miles. I build a small truck bed camper weighing 600#'s and am carrying a dirt bike on a carrier on the trailer hitch. I figure I'm at 92% of rear axle payload limit. And at about 6,650 total payload weight of truck with 7,000 GVWR. So, I'm pushing the truck! Did 2 trips this year to Grayling, MI area. 400-mile round trips each. Drove at 66 mph and averaged 17 Mpg. Impressive. Truck handled it just fine and I was surprised the rear didn't sink too much. I took it easy on the brakes and gas pedal and the transmission temp never went above 198, which is at top of normal driving range. I wish the dealer gave more info in the manual about temps. Still a great purchase! 37,000 miles 6.5 years old. Replaced battery. What a pain. There are 2 spots for a battery on a Silverado. One in front of the engine and easy to get too. And one in the back that is hard to get too. And you guessed it, it's in the back where it's hard to get to. A trick to get out the battery is to put on the battery posts from new battery and rotate out the old battery by putting on its side and pulling it out. then put the battery post protectors on the new battery and lay it on it's side and put it in and then stand it back up. It's easier than having to pull the windshield water bottle out. The truck is still running great. And I'm still pushing the loads around 1,500 and she's handling them just fine. Though I now have a few small spots of rust in the rear wheel well. Not happy to see this on a 6-year-old car. I expected better for how much trucks cost. A car should be able to make 10 years without much rust in my opinion. 84 months and 43,000 miles. Truck is working great, and no repairs needed as of yet. Will be replacing 2 tires next week. The truck is starting to rust in other areas now. I have to say, poor paint, best guess. Which is a shame for the cost of these trucks. My 83 truck, went over 10 years before it started to rust. I purchased a cabin about 3 hrs away from the house and this is now my main mileage per year. I get 21 - 22 Mpg when just carrying up basic items. If I carry my motorcycle hanging off the back on the carrier, I get 19 mpg. What's nice is even with a 350# bike and a 70# carrier hanging off the back of the truck, it's hardly noticeable. These trucks have come a long way on handling loads. 7.5-Year-old truck. Truck is still running great. I did brakes all around, "rust" is the issue. And now I'm going to need to do rear shocks this summer, and maybe front too. 46K miles. I'm planning on having the undercarriage sprayed with oil to slow down the rust in MI. We shall see if this helps? The frame is starting to get a decent amount of rust on it and I have the passenger side rocker panel has a little rust on it. They are supposed to spray the oil inside the lower body panels and all the bare metal. I'd like to get more time before rust takes over this truck. Other than the rust starting the truck is still doing great. A little over 8 years old now. And almost 54,000 miles. The truck is still running great. I have a little more rust, but it's not through the paint. I did Krown oil spray done

Extremely pleased with Silverado LTZ

We traded in a 2016 Toyota Tacoma off road double cab for a 2016 Silverado LTZ. The LTZ has the 6.2L and 8 spd tranny. The Silverado get's better fuel mileage, more comfortable and is hands down a better truck than the Toyota. My family loves the cabin space, the layout, comfort and I like the smooth 6.2l and 8spd tranny combo. I've had the truck 3 weeks and have 2,500 miles on it and I'm impressed with the MPG's! Sub-zero temperatures and I'm getting 19mpg on the highway- better than my Tacoma ever did!

2016 truck has 2400 miles on it. Is the roughest ride I have ever had in a chevy pickup. Cant travel it because wife feels the truck is going to break down due to the vibration. Had it in the shop 7 times for shimmy(vibration) at medium and highway speeds. Shop changed tires , balanced several times. Nothing they did helped. Dealer told me it was the best they could do. I had several friends drive it and they came to the same conclusion. We all agreed to never purchase a Silverado and pass that statement on to others.

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom 4dr Double Cab 4WD SB (4.3L 6cyl 6A)

First off my package was not listed here. I have the Custom which comes with extended cab 4x4 5.3 6spd. If it was not for the sloppy transmission, I would have rated this truck a 5 star. I had owned a 2010 Silverado LS 4.8 4x4 prior and loved the truck besides the lack of power and gears on the highway. I live in western Pennsylvania, so both are a must to power through hilly roads. Power is excellent 300 ft/lb torque at 2k rpm and has great passing power when asked during my trips to pittsburgh on route 28. WIth the custom package you get the color matched bumpers which I personally feel is the most attractive option. Just aesthetically pleasing. You also get the 20 inch chrome clad wheels larger touch screen radio screen, auto lock heavy duty rear-end also improved towing capacity 9200lbs, trans cooler etc. Read the options carefully before purchase. i did not know until I signed the paperwork that the truck does not come with key-less entry(lol). Standard in just about anything you purchase these days. This was easily remedied with an aftermarket remote start. Back to the shifting issues. Most noticeable during in town driving. the transmission just doesn't know what gear it wants to be in. Real sloppy slowing down then accelerating. From what I read the dealerships are blaiming the adaptive transmission and stating that it should learn it self smooth. Not the case after 5k of driving mine. You have to be the one to adapt with throttle position. The other option is to put it into tow mode which will hang on to the gears longer. If it bothers you enough there is available in the aftermarket controllers that can tune the transmission shift-points. Over-all I am very pleased with the truck. It's comfortable enough for a daily driver and more then capable for hauling. I had towed a car and hauled 4k lbs worth of retaining wall block and she handled it effortlessly. My average fuel economy has been an honest 20mpg. I live 20 miles north of pittsburgh and work in the city, so if you are familiar with the area there is a lot of highway and a lot of stop and go traffic. I had also driven the truck to South Carolina, I averaged 22mpg. Aside from the significantly improved power, MPG and styling the truck comes with an armrest compartment and eyeglass holder, which seems silly but big deal for me. Over-all excellent truck!!

Great ride. Little road noise. Have to have running boards unless you are tall. Changing radio stations does lag, though.

So, I went from a 1999 that I bought new in 99, to a 2016. Without question the 2016 is quieter, more responsive and more comfortable. And mine does not shake. There is a lot I like about my new truck BUT, It does feel big compared to my 99 and it's so responsive in the steering that you just sneeze and your going in a different direction. Also, I can't seem to do better then 11 MPG and It's a 2WD. That, and I liked the storage, especially the overhead, better in my 99. With that said, I'm happy with my new Silverado. Great looks, comfort and the MyLink system is very cool. I also think that the 16 sits much better than the 14-15 model.

Vibration problems started within two weeks of owning the truck. The dealer knows there are vibration problems but there is not a fix. I was told that's the way they are, deal with it. The transmission is sluggish and slow to keep up with the driving situations. The electronics crash frequently. The dealership said it was due to subpar and cheap Chinese made memory chips and control boards. Please do not waist your money on this truck. I traded the truck for a Dodge Ram after only 2200 mile. Worst of all the dealership fully understands the problems but will not mention them during the sales process. They will gladly take your money and give you a piece of junk in return.

I now have over 78,000 miles on this truck. My over all average is 22.4 MPG. I do mostly highway, and use the cruise control at the speed limit. The V8 transition to V4 is seemless, I am happy with this truck! The only repair needed was a windshield washer pump replacement that was done under warranty at no cost to me.I like the power of the 5.3 V8. It pulls my car hauler with a 5500 pound skid steer with ease.

I rented this car for my family vacation in and around Yellowstone Park this summer. It was super comfortable to drive. My iphone connected with no issues and the kids really like the view riding from the back. These new trucks drive more like luxury SUVs with all the bells and whistles.

My biggest beef is the lag at what appears to be 1st to 2nd. It is dramatic. When I want acceleration I want it immediately, not in the full second it takes this truck to decide if I am serious or not. More often than not I end up sending the RPMs into 5 or 6 thousand as it finally kicks in. It is probably going to result in a blown gasket at just the wrong time. I wish the dealership did not try to screw me so bad on the crew cab. I would have like that rather than the double or full-size or whatever the term is. But another $7K was just not worth it. As it is I paid $43K new. I already have 65K miles. It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. The displays for the dash are not user friendly. You have to flip through multiple useless screens on multiple setting to find what you are looking for.....confusing. No GPS navigation was surprising. All that tech and no GPS available. Almost made me walk. I say now that I will not buy another Silverado, but if they fix these issues, then maybe I will look at them again.

I have always owned Ford trucks but because my son worked for GM I wanted to support him and the company. I bought the Silverado . On a trip to Florida it broke down- they said it was the o2 sensor. Same trip- it breaks down again- they put me up in a hotel because they say it's the coil and they have to order a part... 2 days later my truck gets fixed. I head back on the road again . I make it through 3 states and it breaks down again on a Saturday afternoon. Once again I am stuck in a strange town with a new truck that has broke down!

This review is based on the High Country model which Edmunds doesn't list. I really like the grill and front end design. Interior with saddle leather looks awesome and cab is quiter than wife's Audi. Ride is very comfortable and handling is very good for a truck. My only complaint is auto manufacturer's seem to over price trucks.

I’ve spent over $400 trying to fix the AC unit and it still blows blazing hot air in the hot humid Georgia summer instead of cold air. Transmission gave out recently and still awaiting the repairs to be complete. Chevy seriously needs to issue a recall on both the AC and the transmission as several mechanics have told me this is a common problem in the 2016 Chevy Silverado but unfortunately GM is too greedy and expects customers to pay out of pocket for expensive repairs on a young vehicle unlike Ford which takes responsibility for defective trucks. I will not buy another Chevy unless GM starts following Ford’s example and issues recalls for this kind of crap

Have owned two Chevy Vans last 18 years never an issue. Wanted a truck to pull my boat. Chose to stay with Chevy given the track record. Truck shifts hard in the low gears. Cold starting the truck jerks into gear and when down shifting it is harder than it should be. Should not feel it down shift. Took it to the dealer and their mechanic got it to down shift hard in parking lot but he said thinks it will smooth out over time. Otherwise I love the truck, comfortable, smooth ride on both highway and around town. Gas mileage is

Wanted a Ford f-150 aluminum body but could get enough rebates to make my payment where I needed it to be. I went looked at silverado 1500 I have 6 speed Auto transmission with 5.3L engine. Sticker price 47know but with employee discount and all rebates was able get it down to 34k...... 18" rims looks good and handles great...... only 1000 miles on it so far. Very quite inside while driving on Highway. Gas mileage 15-24 mpg but not a lead foot. Still trying to adjust to body style don't like the boxie look yet. Bought it because a lot of truck for the money compared to ford trucks...... think the steel body much stronger but weights more and will rust years later...... all in all its very nice truck for the money..... leather heated seats and many other options

I've owned the LT 5.3L V8, 4WD double cab, Z71 edition now for 10,500 miles and love everything about it. It looks great, drives great, pulls my 7x14 trailer just fine, and handles everything I've needed it to do. I enjoy the product and the confidence that comes with it. Very happy.

I bought a 2016 Z71 Midnight Edition Silverado new off the lot and from day 1 the tranny clunked and banged at non demanding speeds... seems to work better under heavy demand or when your really working the truck. I read countless reviews of people having the same problems... and I couldn't agree more. It doesn't ever seem to know what gear it should be in and tries to shift into overdrive every chance it gets, mostly in moments when it should be holding in a lower gear.... which then results in the unnecessary bogging/clunking/ banging high RPM downshift... I know that Chevy isn't known for their trannys but I thought by now they would have it figured out... I guess not... I have always been a Ford guy, and after this only Chevy purchase, looks like I will be going back. The only other complaint I have is that they put this nice huge on board screen in the truck but you can't sync GPS up to it.... at least not that I figured out, so its only used as a music/call screen.... On positive note, I give Chevy the gold for comfort and styling... definitely rides better than any Ford I ever had and has beautiful inside/outside styling with full blown LED everything which I really like. I just wish they would recall to fix the tranny issue....or put more R&D into solving the problem for future.

I purchased this truck with 38000 miles on it, at 48000 miles the motor had a catastrophic failure and needed to be rebuilt. This work was done at a Chevy dealership. At 78000 the rebuild failed and required me to purchase a whole new motor. Please note this truck is equipped with a 6.2L motor from the factory however you don’t give me that option

What happened to my Car Play!

so, I picked up my new Silverado 1500 and noticed while going through the truck that Airplay was missing. I asked the salesmen why didn't my truck on this since it was on of my requested features (also standard on my trim level). I was told that someone had ordered the truck without it and I would be able to bring it in the next day for an update. The next day I called to get an update. I was told that "due to supply issues my truck did not come with CarPlay that that GM "may" make it right some day. For now, I received a $200 credit.. $200? I wanted carplay.. I don't really care about the stupid credit.. GM.. Make it right please!

The front passenger seat is unconfortable as the back is flat and it puts your legs to sleep the way it was made. I have my husband stop after 100 miles or so, so I can get my back and legs in order. Can't afford a power seat so I can adjust it, so I guest I have to live with it. At the age of late 60s you people should remember not all people are young when they buy your trucks. Please change the seat for the next person as they could be Handycap like me. Love my truck! Would not buy anything else!

I bought my 2016 LTZ Z71 used with 30,000 miles on it. The 2LZ package is very sharp with the chrome 20" wheels. The 355 hp 5.3 is very capable and good on gas for full size truck. The leather interior is very comfortable and quiet. The Bose stereo with powered subwoofer is incredible. I am a musician and big time audiophile and the sound system quality is very important to me. The ride is smooth and quiet. I don't get the vibration that others have complained about. I've used it to pull a loaded car trailer and was effortless. I am a car enthusiast. I have driven a lot of different makes and models of trucks over the last 35+ years and this is, hands down, the best one I've ever driven.

Overall the truck does a good job for what I need it for. Getting 19-20 mph average and other than general maintenance has never let me downs

Never had 1 problem in 6 years with this truck. Daily driver and utility truck when needed. Rick Astley said it best...Never gonna give it up.

I've only got 55,000 miles on it and it's needed a transmission repair and a $1600 air conditioner replacement

I bought this Custom 2wd double cab new in 2016, I futured things would break so I bought an extended warranty, well the truck has been absolutely perfect! not one thing has gone wrong until it hit 100,000 miles a few months ago and had to replace the thermostat and housing, this will be the last truck i buy, plan on keeping it forever.

Transmission blew at 126k miles. Don’t recommend this truck. Many other features that have been failing like the touch screen. Buyer beware

Okay vehicle, engine misses at idle is my biggest complaint. Took it to the dealer and they said, that is the way it is, which is a poor excuse to say the least. Leased this puppy and when it is up, bye, bye!
