It’s an Econo-box
I typically only buy chevys like my father before me. I purchased a 5 speed cobalt Ls, and it has been solid for the most part. My biggest gripe with these cars is that Gm definitely went the cheap route in specing out the electrical/wiring harness. I do most of my own work, but when I was having sporadic issues with various sensors, I turned it over to a professional... 1000 bucks later they diagnose and fixed a bad ground in the wiring harness. Considering I only paid 2000 for the car with 124k miles, I wasn’t mad about it (actually kind of was). I’m currently at 186k and there’s been no major issues. I did have to replace the struts and a control arm, but that’s within my ability. Last note, it is a 15 year old car, and like most they start rusting pretty heavily around the 12+ year mark. My goal is to get to 200k and then see what else chevy has to offer... overall a fine vehicle and a stupidly cheap to boot.

run in the other direction!
we bought this car at a good price new, and it has been nothing but trouble from day one. it has had a rough idle for over a year and multiple things have been replaced (engine mounts, throttle body, maf sensor, etc) and nothing helps. it has been in the shop more than it has been on the road and is still not fixed.
Cobalts are JUNK
Was happy with the car for the first couple of weeks, but since it has been nothing but a headache. All sorts of problems including door locks trapping us in or out of car, serious vibrations when driving, cheap and fast-wearing interior, manual tranny problems, leaking sunroof, and headlight issues.
Lemon
Since I have had this Cobalt, it has been in and out of the shop. Power Steering went and 3 different computer chips had to be replaced and then I had to replace both sides of the wheel bearings and control arm bushings and also it stalls when coming to a stop. I am lucky that I haven't been in an accident yet. It is eating up the gas after I replaced the fuel filter and air filter. I will never buy a GM car again.
Control Arm
The front end I going out. It needs a new control arm passenger window keeps moving slower and slower. So it needs a new control arm because the bushings went at 35,000 miles and the dealership refuses to fix it.
