I did my homework
I checked out the Civic and Corolla and was not impressed. They cost more and look boring. The interior of the Cobalt looks just as good and has just as much plastic as the Honda and Toyota. The interior fit and finish, quality of materials line the reviewers love to use, tells me the Cobalt is the real deal since I believe most reviewers are bias in favor of the Japanese models. If that is all they can say, you know the Coblat is a serious contender. My other car is a Nissan Altima so you know that I am someone who really checks things out first and just doesn't buy American. I checked out Civic and Corolla and the Cobalt won, handily.
The "Zoom Zoom" of the American Cars
My expectations were not high at the outset when I purchased my new Cobalt LS. I thought I was buying another Chevy Cavalier for the good gas mileage. I was very wrong. Cobalt LS 2 door is beautiful to look at and fun to drive. The ride is exceptional and the handling is finer than any sports car I've ever driven. Accelleration is quick and braking is smooth and accurate. As for the gas mileage? I was expecting high 20s in the city and about 32 on the highway. Not so! I get a little heavy in the foot at times and still get 30-32 mpg in the city. On the highway? Step back! I'm consistently getting 37-38 mpg. WOW! Every seat is comfortable, and for a tall man, how could I possibly be happier? I've not found any room for improvement on a job well done. I've owned Fords, Buicks, Dodge cars and trucks, Chrysler cars and convertibles, Merkur Scorpios (very impressive car), and driven cars and trucks of every description. I've always found fault somewhere. Not so on the Chevy Cobalt coupe.
I Love My Cobalt
My car feels so sturdy and well made when I drive it because it is so quiet! I really love the circle "motif" with the rear lights and especially the chrome circled gages! I think they need to advertise it more because not too many people know about just how good it is- people might think that it is just a Cavalier with a different name!
Just Not Sure
Bought this car because my Malibu broke down in front of a Chevy dealership and I was too pissed off to repair it again. Asked for a car with no frills (only planned to keep it a year or two) and got a cobalt. Rides well enough and no huge issues but recently things are going downhill. My car would not recognize that it was in park and had to fix it for $400. No I am being told that the control arms are shot and the mechanic said this is an issue on every cobalt he see's with more than 20k miles. I think I'm going to trade it in on a F-150 with my tax return
Here's mine
Bought an 06 LS coupe Dec 2005. With in 1½ year had 80,000 miles on it ( a lot of free way driving). MPG is 25 city, 36 highway. At 89K CEL light on - was an old hose. Replaced it (cost $20 for a 2 inch hose). Now, getting 30 MPG city and right over 40 highway. Interior could be better, at 115K, still on original rotors, shoes, pads, shocks, exhaust & clutch. Last dealer check shows no issues with any of them. Had 2 recalls on it so far. Paid $12K for it and was worth it!
