- In 2024, Ford's best-selling Mustang variant was the electric Mach-E.
- Ford sold 7,742 more Mach-Es than it did gas-powered Mustangs.
- Could this be a one-year fluke? We don't think so.
The Best-Selling Ford Mustang Is Electric
Ford sold nearly 8,000 more Mach-Es than it did gas-powered Mustangs in 2024
Back in 2019, people absolutely freaked out when Ford said it would apply the prestigious Mustang name to its new electric crossover. But now, as we flip the calendars over to 2025, we live in a time where the Mustang Mach-E officially outsells its gas-powered counterpart. What a world.
According to Ford's full-year sales data for 2024, the company moved 51,745 examples of its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV last year. During the same period, Ford sold 44,003 gas-powered Mustang coupes and convertibles. That means the Mustang EV outsold its traditional pony car counterpart by 17.6%.
Things get even more interesting when you look at the most recent data. From October to December 2024, Ford sold 7,518 Mustangs and 16,119 Mach-Es. That's a 114.4% increase — the Mach-E more than doubled the standard Mustang's sales.
Looking at the year-over-year numbers paints a similar picture. Gas-powered Mustang sales decreased 9.5% compared to 2023, while electric Mustang Mach-E sales were up 27%.
Do we expect this trend to continue? Yes. Despite what some folks say, electric vehicle demand is not decreasing or even slowing down; it simply just isn't ramping up as quickly as expected. As Ford continues to improve the Mach-E in the coming years, we only imagine its sales momentum will stay strong.
