The 2025 Jeep Wrangler Is Now Available With a V6 and Automatic Transmission

Jeep initially axed the engine/transmission combo, but Jeep buyers weren't pleased

  • Jeep brings back the eight-speed automatic transmission on V6 Wrangler models for 2025.
  • The transmission returns as a $4,500 option.
  • Other 2025 changes included a new color and standard power windows and locks (yes, really).

Jeep announced in September of this year that the eight-speed auto would only be available in four- and eight-cylinder Wrangler models, leaving the six-speed manual for the six-cylinder motor. But now it's walking that seemingly controversial move back. Jeep says that “enthusiastic requests” from customers led to the reintroduction of the eight-speed automatic transmission for V6 Wranglers. That's about as close as an automaker typically gets to "We're sorry," but we're sure the Jeep faithful will be happy with the reintroduction of the auto. The Wrangler’s six-speed manual also survives for yet another year, available only with the aforementioned V6.

As a brief reminder, Jeep also finally moved to power-operating windows and locks for its base trims in 2025, while the manual disappears from the Gladiator lineup entirely. Jeep also added a new '41 paint color inspired by the olive green used on WWII Willys Jeeps. The ‘25 Wrangler is also available with a new pre-ventilation feature allowing owners to remotely heat up or cool down the cabin using an app. Other updates aside, the automatic transmission will be available as a $4,500 option. It’s a lot of money for an automatic, especially considering it’d be a lot more fun to row your own for free. In any case, the automatic transmission is available to order now for those who don't see themselves in either a four- or eight-cylinder Wrangler.
