Very Surprised, purchased over CR-V and Tiguan

2019 Buick Envision Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)

Firstly, we just bought this Envision and only have 500 miles on it so far, so I cannot comment on reliability, etc. We had been shopping for an SUV for a couple months and had struggled with the whole 2-row vs 3-row thing. We decided to get a larger 2-row because my wife will drive it every day and we only road-trip a couple times a year (something a 3-row would be best suited for). We were set to buy a VW Tiguan because of its size, power, etc. We visited our local Buick dealer just to see what they had to offer. We had not even considered the Envision, but when my wife drove the turbo 2.0, the decision became easy: she had to have it! We were blown away by the ride, smoothness, easy steering, and the extremely quiet interior. We also drove one with the 2.5 4-cyl, but it didn't hold a candle to the turbo. I will say however, that I felt the 2.5 liter was on-par with VW's turbo 2.0. It made us realize that the VW and the Honda were weak. This thing has all kinds of power, but it comes at a price. We averaged 25 mpg (hand calculated) on a 400-mile road trip, with a conservative 71 mph average speed. Not terrible, but overall worse than others in this class. This will be my wife's daily-driver, so we'll see how it does in the city. I'm hopeful the mileage will improve after we get a few thousand miles on it. Cargo capacity is okay, but we travel lightly so we're good with it. We had just enough room for us, two small kids, 3 small suitcases, a box of toys, and miscellaneous bags of stuff. I recently rented a Nissan Murano for a road trip, and this Envision felt just as good, if not better. The only areas where the Murano was better was mpg and its slightly larger size. We got the Premium I trim, but even the lower trims are well-equipped with a power lift gate, heated seats, wheel, and more. The other makes only offer that stuff in high trim levels. Honda does not even offer two of her must-haves in the CR-V: heated steering wheel and panoramic sunroof. If you're shopping for a larger 2-row SUV, do not pass up on the Envision. UPDATE: 16k miles on our Envision now, and my wife still loves it. We have not had any issues whatsoever, and have only performed the required maintenance. After break-in, we've bested 27 mpg on a very long highway trip. We don't track in-town mileage, but would estimate it's in the 18-20 mpg range. Driven conservatively, I would say it does better on fuel than the estimate. The only downside, is that it requires premium. My wife definitely notices a difference in performance if she uses regular or mid-grade fuel.

Underrated and overlooked car

2019 Buick Envision Essence 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

The Envision has a lot going for it. It is comfortable, has controls that are intuitive and easy to use, has sufficient power, quiet, smooth gearbox, plenty of space, and lots of useful tech (power liftgate, blindside assist, rear cross traffic alert, heated steering, remote start, to name a few). All trims come with at least HID headlamps, which makes night driving much better than with halogens. The external design is understated, but by no means unsightly. I can understand why this vehicle doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Edmunds criticism is that this vehicle is too pricey to be a normal SUV, but not luxury enough. For certain segment of buyers, it hits a sweet spot of not too pricey (or as luxurious) as Lexus and Audi, but much more put together than non-luxury SUVs. Unfortunately for Buick, I haven’t seen an Envision on the road where we live (other than us), and that is quite Ok with us. There are plenty of Encores and Enclaves, but don’t see many Envisions out there. If you want to go full luxury and has the budget for it, skip the Envision, but if you near-luxury with a fair price that falls in line with where they position this vehicle, it could be the right call for you. As a daily driver, this car does almost everything very well.

I came back to the Envision

I owned a 2017 but traded it in after it was involved in an accident. I purchased a Buick Encore to replace the Envision. While I really liked the Encore in many ways, I decided to trade for a 2019 Envision for the larger size and cargo capacity. I find the 2019 Envision superior to the 2017 I previously owned in terms of styling and technology. The envision has the classic Buick classic quiet ride and I find the Envision very easy to drive. My Envision has the 2.5 L engine, which meets my needs for driving and performance. For the cost of the vehicle and features, I find the Envision is very competitive with other mid size SUV/Crossovers.

This is a beautiful vehicle inside and out. It is super quiet and has great road feel for an SUV. We drove a GMC Terrain as well and were quite surprised by how big a difference there was between these two vehicles. The Envision feels much more luxurious and has great features for the price. If you are thinking about a mid-size SUV do not overlook this Buick! The 2.5L 4-cylinder is slightly underpowered so if you can afford to step up to the Premium trim and acceleration is important to you, you should definitely consider spending the extra money. However, if acceleration isn't critical and you are mostly driving around town the Essence offers a very luxurious vehicle that handles well and gets good gas mileage. After 6 months and 9,000 miles, nothing has changed.

While I loved my CTS once I got it moving, tired of trying to get in and out of my low slung 2013 CTS, and averaging only 16 mpg in town with the 3.0 liter AWD. Plus acceleration was not all that smooth when you hit the gas. Would rev up, then start moving. Time for a crossover. Test drove Q5, X3, a small Infiniti, Edge, Escape, next on my list was CX5, and MKC. Decided, to look at the Envision, just to cross it off the list for possible consideration. I drove the Preferred FWD. Liked the ride. Seats very comfortable. Especially like that head restraints, and lumbar support, both adjust up and down, and fore and aft. Love outside driver side mirror is auto dimming. Didn't have that on the CTS. Also, this has the same turning circle as the CTS. My biggest concern was the 2.5 liter is said to be under powered. I don't find that at all. It has better, and smoother acceleration than my CTS had. However, may be because with the high compression ratio (11.3:1), I began to use Premium. Owner manual says to use 87 octane "or higher". Average 20-22 in the suburbs, and easily low 30s on the highway. My record driving in western Michigan was 36 mpg on the highway. Well worth the higher price of premium, which if you buy at Costco, about the same as regular at the corner gas station. Being older, always heard the higher the compression ratio, higher octane fuel needed. This is just a guess, but those who say the 2.5 is under powered are experiencing the electronics reducing the power to restrict knocking that may be caused by w/ 87 octane. Update January 19, 2021 at Edmund's invitation (first, a clarification, my car is a 2018, not 2019.): I wish I could say I was happy. However, battery/electrical problems have cropped up. A few months after taking delivery, my car needed to be jumped. Battery had a dead cell. Replaced under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. No big deal I thought, just a bad part installed. I also told the service advisor of a weird occurrence. I was stopped at a light, it changed, I began to proceed, and car died. Dash board lit up like Las Vegas at night. It started back up, so I thought I just went to fast from break to gas pedal, and auto start/stop needed time?. Service advisor said just drive it more, it needs to learn your driving style. Yeah, right, but it never happened again so I forgot about it. Then, this past summer, I noticed the auto start/stop was not doing it's job, and it was all the time, even if the AC was not turned on (if on "LO", it doesn't work). I mentioned that when I took it in for an oil change, and they said I just needed to drive it more. She has a job, and has to drive, but the rest of us without a job are expected to pay for gas to just drive around going nowhere, during a pandemic when few places are open? Insulting. Then this past fall, I go down to my car (I park in an underground garage in my condo complex), hit the start button, just clicking noise. Call Roadside assistance, and they jumped car. Said to drive it around for a while, which I did. Seemed to solve problem. Then about a month later, same thing, go down to my garage. Clicking again. Roadside assistance came out, same drill. A few weeks later, same experience/drill. A week after, again, same experience, the third no-start. Get out of the car to go to ground level to use phone to call roadside assistance, hit the lock button on remote, and the dash lights all of a sudden, look like Vegas again. Get inside, try to start, just clicking. I open door, stay inside, close door, hit start button, starts right up. Call a different Buick dealer about leaving it there for them to look at. Dismissive attitude, without looking at it, just said I need to drive it more. Again, we're in a pandemic. Where do I go? Then, 4th no start a few weeks later. This time, do same sequence, get out, lock, get back in, no start, open then close door, get chirp fob inside, hit start, starts right up. BTW, roadside assistance will only provide 3 (or 4?) jumps a month. Called a Chevy dealer. Yes they service Buicks. Great service advisor, says what they will do, then asks, where do I park. Told him. Asks if this happen when parked outside. Never. He says they are seeing more no-starts with people who park in enclosed garages with multiple cars. The signals from the electronics continue when parked, and possibly cars are getting confused. They found this battery had a dead cell. 3rd battery in less than 3 yrs. No wonder Buick reduced bumper-to-bumper warranty by a year on new models, as not covered under powertrain warranty. Update 19 Jul. 2021. Car has been starting, no jumps needed. Recently was unable to drive for almost 3 weeks, and car started right up. Everything is working (no thanks to Howard or Sullivan Buick). Thank you Bredemann Chevrolet in Park Ridge, IL. for giving me my car back.

the good, the bad, the ugly

No car is perfect. This is better than most. Good--surround cameras, heads up, ability to disable the automatic engine shut off at every stop. The bad--center console is useless (no smart phone), glove box too shallow. Adaptive features are mixed reviews. The Buick spots the car ahead at slower speeds and slows down easily. At faster speeds it does not slow down fast enough, need to manually break before it rear ends the other car. The ugly? Still looking for that!

Smooth 2019 Envision Preferred

I was looking for a small comfortable SUV with all wheel drive, remote start, good climate control, nice smooth and quiet ride at an affordable price. I found it in the Envision Preferred. So far so good in terms of meeting my needs. Only negatives so far are so/so mileage and how the supports block the side view. I don't drive a great deal so the mileage is not a big issue for me. The care is much quieter than my previous CX5 and the seats and total ride more comfortable. Buick was running a great special which meant the car fit my budget. I even like the bronze color. It is a little different than all the greys out there. Give it a try.

I was all set to buy a Volkswagen Tiguan or Honda CRV. The Envision was not even a consideration. Hubby is a GMC guy so we stopped in a dealer. He told them we wanted to see maybe the Envision and a Terrain. I was "meh" at best. But then I got in the Envision and was so happy. First I drove the FWD Essence it was nice but didn't have the sunroof. So they showed me the AWD Premium turbo and it was all over. I'm short and The visibility good for me, the power seats are amazing for this also. The outside is understated which I actually like but I don't think it photographs well. So definitely see it in person. The inside is totally glorious. So quiet and comfortable. Luxurious without being obnoxious. It is a powerful ride when I need it, too. The way the engine kicks back on in traffic is completely smooth, I don't even notice. Whereas the Tiguan was jerky and started harder. I usually only drive to get where I have to go. But now I'm finding excuses to go drive anywhere. Gas mileage is better than I expected. Anyway, it's the perfect size for my needs. I am not comfortable driving behemoth vehicles. This is roomy but great for city driving & lugging two kids in car seats. I'm beyond thrilled & so glad hubby took me to look at it. I don't think I'll ever be able to have another plain car.

Leased the Envision 2019 preferred model 3 months ago. Overall the well appointed features and a powerful engine when you need it. Reviewers complain about the heating /cooling vents being to low on the dashboard but I like it the way, you don't need to see them you just got to feel them working. The exterior and interior are very stylish and with modern appealing looks. I give Buick an A+ and the fact that the whole vehicle was manufactured in China does not surprise me. Love the SUV.

Bought the car on price point edmunds apparently made a mistake on my “private offer” and doubled one of the rebates and dealer honored that deal saved an extra $2750. So print the offer if it looks good. Like the car it’s quiet and rides well my only real dislike is that its built in China but so is most everything else.

Faulty transmission. When shifting from Park or from Reverse, it will intermittently "clunk". Clunk can be small or can shake the car. Have been to dealer & left it there for them to drive. Naturally, it won't do it while they have it. Waiting it out until it gets more frequent. Otherwise I like the car.

My 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan was high in space and utility but lacked a serene ride and newer electronics, but at 24,800 miles it got caught in a flood of water and had to be replaced, rented a 2020 GMC Terrain, while it had decent space inside, it felt and rode like a small truck, bought a 2019 Buick Envision Essence model and was quite impressed on the workmanship of the inside of the vehicle, it looks, feels and rides like a premium vehicle, plus it offers great comfortable seats, and a very quiet hushed interior, the previous sales commercial pitch of: wouldn’t you really rather have a Buick is spot on, you don’t need to buy more expensive models offered by, Acura, Lexus, BMW or Cadillac, for a lot less this car does it all, now the Buick has close to 50,000 miles on it and it still drives as food as day one UPDATE: Very impressed in the design and comfort of Buicks popular mid-size, the gas mileage is very disappointing as well as the handling on the open road, if there are no curves on the road, and no road imperfections you'll get a nice ride but slowdown in cornering, it does the job but much body lean, had to replace the Michelins that came with the SUV, replaced them at 26,000 miles, better designed than the Chevy counterpart, and rides much better than the GMC which drives like a truck, this does not drive like a premium vehicle but very comfortable interior

2019 Buick Envision Essence 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 6A)

Part l - I was looking for a Buick Envision or Encore for one reason. Buick's Quiet Tuning. I was trading in a Hyundai Sonata Limited. Beautiful car. All the bells and whistles but not very smooth or quiet. And as it turns out the GDI engine is a disaster. I was raised on American luxury cars and I'm not ashamed to say I prefer the softer "boat-like" ride of American vehicles to the tighter sportier ride of European, and Asian vehicles. So I looked at a lot of Envisions but could not find one with the features I wanted in my price range. And to be honest the Encore was just a bit too small. I was ready to settle on a Nissan Rogue when this Envision Essence popped up. I went to the dealer, Echo Park, and had a very pleasant buying experience and got it. I like the Envision very much. The ride is smoother and considerably quieter. Yesterday I was playing music from my library on my phone not loud but loud enough and turned a corner and found myself right in front of a firehouse. Both the ambulance and fire truck were charging out lights blazing and sirens blaring and I could barely hear it. Maybe not such a good thing but confirmation that I now have the quiet vehicle that I have been searching for. The interior is beautiful. Leather, Heated Seats, not the Bose sound system offered in the Premium I and II but very good. Pano Sunroof, and lots more. Exterior, Beautiful Red paint. I've never had a red car before. The expected nicks and small scratches of a four-year-old SUV. Love the styling of the headlights and front grill treatment. I like the wheels very much. In fact, I like them more every day that I look at them. There does seem to be something a bit glitchy about the electronics involving the door locks and the way the touch screen and dash lights turn off when I exit and lock the doors. Heading back to Echo Park today to have that looked at as I have a 1000-mile warranty still in effect. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. Part ll - I have now had my Envision for 6 months and I like this SUV more now than I did when I wrote Part l. I have had the "glitchy electronics" looked at and was told by the Buick Dealership there was nothing they could do unless they could recreate the issue in the shop so they could trace it to its origin and, of course, they couldn't. So I have become so used to these issues ( and they really are quite minor) that now I don't even notice them when they do happen. I love driving this vehicle. Being up above the traffic with a better view of what's in front of me as opposed to my previous sedan is a subtle but important feature. The four-cylinder engine is quiet and produces enough power and acceleration for me but I am not a speed freak. I like to cruise in style and luxury. Love the power liftgate. I've never had one before and it is a very nice upgrade. I live in Texas so I don't get to use the Pano Sunroof as often as I would like. The Summers here are too hot and last nearly 5 months but in the Spring and Fall, it is a welcome luxury. I wish it got better MPGs. A vehicle this size with an inline four should get at least 30 combined but I get more like 26-27. Some of the Nissan Rouge models I was considering got 31-32 combined but ultimately it was Buick's Quiet Tuning that tipped the scales.

I have an Encore and traded the Enclave, didn't need the size, for Envision. Has only 4,090 miles. I don't feel a five star is in order until I get more miles. It is very quiet, decent performance, great gas mileage, and very short turning radius. Ride is smooth, but as indicated, does give some rougher rides over some roads. I wish it was not built in China, but overall, done very nicely. I may purchase when lease is up. Mine is the Essence model. Great leg room for my 6' 1" frame.

Handles well, extremely quiet in the city and on the Highway. Interior is much better then any other 5 seater in its class. Touch controls and blue tooth are great. Extras that come with the premium 1 model are just right, very hesitant on getting Premium 2 model with $5,000 extra on price tag. Drove 14 other vehicles in this 5 Seater class of SUV, and this one kept coming up on top. Wife drove it and was more or less sold after the first test drive except for the one we drove did not have a turbo. Once the turbo was driven, the car sold itself. Have had the Envision for 6 months now and the wife loves it, so comfortable with heated steering wheel and heated seats, makes winter temps more comfortable with auto start feature to include auto heating of seats based on outside temps. Sirius XM just like our previous vehicle we owned, but with nice sized touch screen. Was glad we drove all the SUV's in this class and within the same price range for a vehicle that we will keep for years to come. Disappointed they went away from the bronze color in the 2020 model though. Our vehicle and specs were not easy to find in dealerships within the state of North Carolina. Reminder that a turbo is a must if you want the get up and go, r you are just driving a 4 cylinder suv.

The new system in the Envision must work thru Google Maps I have not had much luck with this. I am sure most of the trouble is operator error, but wish Buick would not have changed a good thing ( if it ain't broke don't fix it)

I wish the blind spot indicator on the side mirrors beeped instead of flashed. The flash is the same color/location of the turn signal, so it's not obvious enough. It takes premium gas :( My favorite thing is the steering wheel warmer; my hands get cold, but this keeps me from having to blow warms air on them, which also blows on my face and makes me tired. One flaw I don't like is the "miles to empty" feature. It tells you down to 30 but then just says LOW. 25 miles to empty is way different than 2 miles to empty. Sometimes you need to know this information. I like the fact that many of the features that I was looking for in the 2017 that were available in premium only, were available on the 2019 Essence.

the doors do not drain of any water unless the door is opened....so you must remember after a good rain to open all four doors to drain the water...Also salt laden water from road wash is getting into the doors without drainage...not sure of the rust implication and in winter freezing/thawing and other electrical issues that may ensue.

I was shopping for a new car and I have driven everything but a Buick so when I test drove the Envision I knew it was the one! It's just enough room for me, the leather seats are so comfortable and the stero system is just right. I truly love it's feel fir the road and it is a great buy for money.

Nice luxury entry vehicle. Uses regular gas with 297 hp. Exceleration to highway speed is smooth and steady. Around town plenty of power for all situations and Avery quiet engine. The power feels the same as the 200hp 3.8 gm 6 cyl or fords 200hp 3.0 6 cyl. A great alternative to the turbocharged 4 cyl engines without having to use premium grade gas, which saves money with the costs of fuel today.

Seems nice at first but be warned...THIS CAR WAS MADE IN CHINA WITH 95% CHINESE PARTS. If you like paying a premium price for Walmart quality, go for it. Just be sure to get the extended warranty - you will need it.
