Poor Reliability, Even Worse BMW Customer Service

Took delivery December 2023; Sold the BMW X1 April 2025 due to terrible reliability, dealerships not fixing the car correctly and BMW Corporate being no help. In the first year, the car was back at the dealership 5 times for a total of 48 days. And chronic electronic malfunctions were *never fixed* in spite of the fact that I provided 101 photos and videos of various system malfunctions, they repeatedly told me they couldn't replicate some of the problem so they refused to replace the computer. For good measure, I brought the car to a 2nd dealer for one of those visits, reached out to BMW Customer Service and filed a Lemon Law Buy Back Appeal. BMW refused to help. Each BMW representative I worked with was more inept than the one before. Problems included: -Chronic loss of Apple Car Play connection with no ability to reconnect (literally hundreds of times and the iPhone 15 Pro Max works fine on our other vehicles) -Dash board screen malfunctions, error messages, and spontaneous menus popping up without prompt that caused temporary loss of use of maps, radio functions, climate control, etc. -Air Bag Malfunction Warning Light (a software module was replaced for that) -Intermittent loss of safety systems: collision mitigation, rear traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking for no diagnosable reason. -Power seat memory loss intermittently -Doors not locking or folding mirrors intermittently -5 Braking System Recalls that took 6+ months to get fixed (this goes against NHTSA Guidelines)* -Major Transmission Recall that took 7 months to get fixed (also against NHTSA Guidelines)* I made it abundantly clear that if the car was not fixed or replaced, that they would be losing a repeat customer. Clearly BMW doesn't value my business. This was my 2nd and last BMW.

They absolutely got it right this time!

Unlike the previous iterations of the X1, the totally redesigned ‘23 model is no longer the poor neglected step-child of the family. The finishes, appointments, and design make it worthy of the BMW badge. Once you get used to the idrive8, you’ll appreciate how awesome it truly is. Other than the needlessly awkward auto stop/start override , I really have no complaints at all. I absolutely love it! It’s the most fun you can have behind the wheel without going to a drive-in movie with a really hot date.

2023 X1

I ordered my 2023 X1 back in the end of January and it finally showed up June 28th. It is fully loaded without the M package including the factory trailer hitch. I really enjoy the car but around 1000 miles it developed a nasty rattle coming from the passenger side but haven't taken it in yet to have it looked at. I also haven an annoying buzz in my left ear that seems to be coming from the drivers side grab handle. I created a short cut for the engine start/stop so I can just give a quick swipe down to deactivate it. I have got great mileage on the one long road trip I went on. Pure freeway on the way up to the Canadian border got 43mpg on the computer and took a more meandering route back and filled up got 38mpg overall, the actual mileage is very close to what the computer shows. I really enjoy the car and it is my first BMW. I just need to get it in to the dealer to hopefully solve those couple annoyances.

Not as expected

I like many features, but the nr#1 reason for me was heated seats and steering wheel - disappointment! X1 is not able to preheat your seats and steering wheel before the drive. The remote starter is working only on engine and cabin, but I'm still sitting down on frozen seat. The seat wormer works when I sit down and manually start the engine. Some of the modes can not be set as favorite, I have to select t every time I start the car. The same with automatic engine shut off during the stop, I have to turn it off every ride - unless you using sports mode. Dissatisfied! That's not what was promised during the purchase.

My 4th Bmw (3 series, 5series, 2017 X1) and most disappointing. Traded prior X1 due to high milage. Find this new one more powerful but drives extremely light on the road, bounces around on the highway and just doesn’t seem to have the “BMW planted on the road” feel that my prior ones did. And auto start/stop very rough restarting engine from a stop so that I now turn it off on every drive. Have always loved the way BMWs drive, this one just doesn’t have that BMW quality drive and feel which is the reason I buy a BMW
