Great Audi Design, Quality & Poor Software Support

I am very pleased with it. Excellent Audi Quality and 270 mile real world range in economy drive mode and prudent driving. Exterior design is quite beautiful with elegant proportions. Interior is well done with slightly frugal finishes. Interior cabin is spacious. Audi MMI infotainment system is excellent. Not cutting edge but is excellent none the less. Works well with Apple CarPlay. Black Optic package is quite beautiful. Overall I am extremely happy with it. Update after 20 months of ownership. 7.12.24. I had serious issues in one instance of extreme cold. Audi claims to have fixed it with a software update in a recall but we have not extreme cold in Chicago since then. The MMI worked well until I decided not to pay Audi $500 a year for the software subscription with internet access. At that point I went with Apple CarPlay. Apple CarPlay which does not load quickly. It loads slowly and wastes my time. Audi’s software expertise and software support, like that of VWAG, is poor. Problems take forever to get solved because of poor software expertise and Audi, like VWAG, grossly underfunds software maintenance, upgrades to fix bugs, and national software support. When you call in for national customer service, the Audi knowledge base is poor and hit or miss. In theory the Q4 has the capability for over the air software upgrades, but that is not workable. The only way to get software fixes is to take the car to the dealership and let them to do it there which takes a day or two. From a design perspective and mechanically I like the Q4 a lot. However Audi is bumbling with software and doesn’t understand the importance of software support after you buy the car.

At least the motors work

I leased a 2023 Q4 Premium Plus S-Line because it was one of the only EVs available with dual motors, cold-weather options, and a tow hitch. The headline here is that the driving part is okay, but the other electronics are an utter mess. The car will always try to log you in when you turn it on, but sometimes this process takes ages or fails altogether. The radio will play random stations rather than the last one you listened to. The volume level is anyone’s guess. And yet, it’s not easy to change the volume or the station. Preset buttons have been replaced by a touchscreen that you can’t use without looking away from the road. The volume controls on the wheel and console are touch-sensitive and impressionistic at best; gone are the precision and surety of a manual dial. One time, the car started and the touch screen didn’t turn on at all. It was almost a relief. But it’s not just the radio. The navigation map is endlessly frustrating. You can zoom in on the map… but in a few seconds the system will zoom out again of its own accord. The range estimates vary wildly and seem only to care about efficiency over the last few miles you drove. In fact, the only thing on the console that works more or less as it should is the climate control, operated safely and securely by actual buttons. As for the rest of the cabin, it’s spacious and the seats are comfortable, though the leather feels much cheaper than on earlier models. Oh, and that tow hitch? When attaching or detaching anything, you may inadvertently set off the automatic trunk opener – not a good luck when there’s a bike rack in the way. The dealer said they didn’t know how to deactivate the sensor. Sad! The car drives well enough. It’s heavy, but the center of gravity is sufficiently low that it corners fine. That said, you’ll have to learn to brake earlier and harder. More than once, stopping while going downhill required standing on the brakes. The acceleration is good off the mark, as with most EVs, but nothing special at highway speeds. What about efficiency? You can expect to get 2.5 to 3 miles per kWh most of the time… unless you’re traveling at low speeds on a slight downhill incline and never meet a red light. The range for an 80% charge is usually listed around 200 miles, but achieving it is rare – especially since the car begs to be recharged with 30 miles left. Overall, I’m glad I only got a lease. Cars with this range will be obsolete in a few years, and I’ll never be in love with this one. Audi made great cars up through about 2018 – what happened?

Missing features but overall happy.

I’ll preface my review comparing to my 2021 Audi Q5 Premium plus to the Q4 Premium Plus. For the price of the Q4, pretty disappointed in the missing features. Cons: 1) missing 360 cameras - I used this feature daily as I my garage is tight. Dealer told me this was due to the chip shortage. 2) missing retractable trunk cover. This is not standard and must be purchased extra through the parts dept. This is a dealer port added feature and my dealer no longer includes. 3) missing trunk mesh liner. Would be nice to at least include this was included if they are going to skimp on adding the retractable cover. 4) trunk cargo floor has large gaps on each side. Don’t understand why it doesn’t properly cover the entire space. Items can easily fall into these gaps. 4) battery only charged to 74% at most recent charge at an ultra fast EA station. Battery is supposed to charge to 80%. Concerning and will have to monitor. 6) park assist not working. Need to return to dealer Pros: smooth ride, great pick up/ torque, stylish, amazing sound system

Absolutely In Love!

I'm absolutely in love with my new Q4 - Etron. My first experience with an EV and absolutely love it. I was on a waiting list for the Cadillac Lyriq but decided to move forward with the Audi. I'm so glad I did. The ride is comfortable and quiet. My vehicle was upgraded with the Sline package which gave me the upgraded sports seats and steering wheel. It's a joy to ride back and forth to work.

Long term Audi owner here, and this is my second EV. I love my Q4! It’s great to commute, run errands, plug in and do it all again. I live in the Bay Area, so charging away from home is not an issue. The Chronos system sounds great, driving is easy and sporty, and the range is fine. When it’s very cold, range does go down, but I find if I turn the car on using The Audi App Climate Control, the car heats up and the loss of range is minimal. I have the slower one of the line up, but it’s got great pick up, I can pass others and get out if situations quickly. very happy with my 2023 Audi Q4!

Battery went from high of 224 on full charge to 178 on full charge in less than a month. Have service appointment in 2 weeks. At this point be lucky to have 150 mile range on full charge.

Started to having A/C problems (not blowing cold air) on second day after purchase. Service dealership found leak in A/c part that must be replaced. Part must be delivered from Germany. Ended up with dealer's loaner for minimum 2-3 weeks. Still going.....

This vehicle does not connect to an apple iPhone. I have had the vehicle in for this problem twice. The official response- it is apples fault related to IOS 16, there is nothing Audi can do to fix it sand it’s not covered by warranty. Interestingly, I just rented an Audi Q5 (coincidentally), and this SAME iPhone connects seamlessly. But, Audi still says it’s a problem with my phone. Not what I expect from a $65,000 vehicle

A Little Annoying, but Great EV Overall!

This is the 3rd EV my family has had, the others being a BMW i4 and a Tesla Model Y Long Range, and while I still prefer the i4 over this, a growing family meant I had to replace my beloved i4 with this Audi, and I'm only mildly disappointed. The Q4 is similar in size to Model Y LR, but unlike the Tesla, this actually feels like a real car and not a refrigerator. Drives much better than the Tesla, feels equally as planted, has tech you actually need and not gimmicks. Besides that, it is quieter than the Tesla Model Y LR, and it just feels like a car made by a company who has a lot of experience making cars. It's nice not having to deal with random things going wrong like broken window switches and a misaligned trunk, like with what I had to deal with on a Tesla... In general, EVs from established German automakers just feel a lot more like a quality product, and this is no exception. It's excellent in snow, refined, has a tilt and sliding sunroof (when did automakers decide that people didn't want sunroofs anymore?), it's got a great stereo, and it feels upscale in an old school luxury sort of way. The climate control is also way better than a Tesla. With the Tesla I never really felt super cool on hot days, but the Q4's air conditioning gets ice cold even on the hottest days, and the heater almost radiates heat. Besides that, I love how compact it is, and it is actually pretty fun to drive. Not as much fun as the i4, but way more fun than a Tesla, which I wouldn't say is fun to drive at all. The Q4 is still pretty heavy like most EVs, and you feel that, but it's a lot lighter than other SUVs like the iX. The two drive modes are also pretty fun. With the car in 'D' mode, you can adjust levels of regen with the car, and it sort of feels like driving an old school manual with its levels of regenerative braking. The range in very similar to the Tesla Model Y LR in my experience, which highlights another difference I noticed between Tesla and German automakers. German range figures are very true to real world where I feel as though Tesla's figures are overstated. On the highway with both the Q4 and Model Y LR, I get about 180 miles or so going from 80 to 10% on the battery while averaging around 75-80 mph. The most annoying downside of the Q4 for me really had to do with the initial setup of it. It uses driver profiles, so settings can be different depending on whether or not you are using the main or guest profile. It's confusing and annoying, but once you get over that initial hurdle it's almost smooth sailing from there. I find the infotainment system system annoying and a little incomplete, but I do love using old school switches for the climate control, and you get used to the weird touch switches for other things like volume and sunroof controls. I'm just thankful there are switches for these things and you don't have to go searching around in menus. One of the most noticeable things about driving the Q4 is that you don't get that face ripping warp tunnel sort of acceleration performance. It's definitely quick enough and has great passing power when you need it, even at high speeds, but you don't get that novel sort of face ripping acceleration like with other EVs. To me that sort of thing got old pretty quick, but I guess some people still like having that sort of thing... I miss a few Tesla things that you don't get with the Q4. It's annoying, but you still have to carry a key around with the Audi (in the US at least), and I loved not having to carry around keys with a Tesla. The Tesla network is also far superior to the CCS network, and to me THE biggest advantage to having a Tesla, but since I don't plan on road tripping too much with the Q4, it's a non-issue for me. I also think that Tesla's autopilot is better in some ways than the "autopilot" that the Q4 uses. I think Tesla's lane centering is better. It feels as though you are in the middle of the lane more often. The Q4 by comparison feels like you are ping ponging between the edges of the lane a lot more, and that is a little unnerving. However, I prefer the distance control on the Q4 in that it counts the amount of seconds you are behind the car ahead of you, and not the car lengths. With the Tesla you would leave huge gaps when traffic slows down. The Q4's distance control feels a lot more intuitive in the way it slows down. It feels a lot more gradual and less urgent. I also have never experienced that phantom braking thing in the Q4, where I have experienced that in the Tesla a handful of times, and that could be a potentially dangerous situation. Overall I trust the Q4 more when it comes to distance control and the Tesla more when it comes to lane centering. I also prefer the Q4's touch steering wheel as opposed to having to apply steering force when it comes to driver monitoring. In summary, I will never buy a Tesla again mostly because it feels like an appliance, and I think that Tesla drivers have no imaginations, and I would buy a Q4 E-Tron again. It's a nice car despite it's somewhat incomplete Infotainment experience. If I didn't have kids however, I would go i4 any day of the week. That to me is a perfect car!

The car weight is too high and they have not put the proper tire to manage the weight. We have bought the car for 6 months before and we changed tier 2 times, even if you hit small stone the tier will blow up and we just escaped from 2 major accident because of the tier blow up, very worst product from Audi without doing all the test released to consumer.

Aside from the car having a pretty nice design, and looking pretty good from both the inside and outside, this car is highly impractical, and I do not recommend this car at all, unless you also have another car that is not electric. If you are on a roadtrip, or making any trip than let’s say 300 km, your trip will be lengthened by at least a few hours, because you have to charge your car. E-Cars are definitely great, but the infrastructure in most countries does not allow for a good system of charging stations, and you are instead left to figure out each individual charging stations systems, and e.g app in order to get where you are trying to go. I swear to god, just take my advice and don’t go on long car trips, because you will in fact regret it a lot!!!!!
