All smiles!
I love this car. We traded in our 2003 BMW 3 series because we saw the car sitting at the dealership and were looking for a car with more room. We drove it and fell in love with it instantaneously. The interior is beautiful, the power and handling is great and we get over 31 mpg! The rear seats fold flat giving you a cargo hole that can almost hold a dryer!! The rear seating is a little short on leg room, but the BMW wasn't any better.
My God, this thing is FAST!!!
I traded an 02 Kia Rio Cinco for this A3. I have DSG and Open Sky as my only options, Lava Gray Pearl on Gray Cloth. Went on road trip from LA to Sacramento (and back) and it purred the whole time. 85 on cruise control and stil got right at 30 mpg (even with the grapevine). This car is worth every penny. It is the fastest car I have ever driven and I haven't seen a single other one on the road yet. The only reason I gave it a 9 on comfort is because the center cosole seems huge, and it has the impression of being "tight". I should also mention that Entry and Exit is EXCELLENT (not climbing out of the Rio or a Honda - ie. not too low to the ground). I really love this car

Perfect car for us
This car is so fun to drive, everyday commute or trip to mountain. 6-speed DSG with 200 HP works like a dream, you don't feel a thing when it shifts. We are big fan of hatchback (or so called compact wagons) Cabin looks or feels great. We factory ordered our Silver, DSG, premium, sound, cold weather Pkg and open sky. We are pretty happy to pay 31K for it plus 2.9% APR.
Move over Fun, here is the A3
After owning two VW GTI's, a VR6 and 1.8T i decided to jump up to the next level and get an A3. The 2.0T is amazing, more interior room and feel than the larger A4 without the added weight. The DSG is absolutely amazing and i am a huge manual tranny guy. Sitting in traffic in "D" and having the use of the paddles is so fun. Audi did an awesome job with the steering and feel of the A3, plus put versatility and economy in the same package. Torque and power delivery of the 2.0T is never-ending with no drop off in power until after 6500rpms. I mean 207lb/ft for 3000rpms YES PLEASE. Audi did a great job with this car and the sales numbers are proving it.
Great Decision
After initially looking for an SUV, this purchase was a great decision. The A3 is a blast to drive, particularly when using the DSG transmission. The Open-sky is very cool and keeps the whole interior bright but slightly noisy when open. The Bose stereo is imperative. I'm 6'0 and have a little trouble finding a comfortable seat position, but thankfully have the auto driver seat. The only problem I have with the car is the narrow space between the brake and accelerator pedals where I often kick the brake when trying to reach the accelerator.
A for Audi
The car is sporty and fun to drive. The DSG shifts smoothly as manual clutchless or automatic. Car handles great. No Turbo Lag. Fit and Finish is of a Luxury Car quality.
Awesome Euro Car
Outstanding Car. 6spd Manual is where it is at, but apparently the DSG is nice. Sport Package and Xenon headlights are a must. Premium sound is nice too. Handles like a dream. Great engine. Classy yet sporty interior.
2006 Moro Blue A3 sport/dsg
Purchased this car after having a great ownership experience with a 2000 VW Jetta 1.8T. The A3 exceeds the Jetta in every respect, driving dynamics, fuel economy, road noise, safety, and ergonomics. I love the exterior styling - it seems aggressive and refined at the same time to me. The interior is also wonderful, with the added aluminum (including alloy dsg paddles) and contrasting stiching on the sport seats being nice touches. Only gripes after 5 days with the car are visibility behind the driver is a little constrained and I wish the sport package came with power front seats, though the manual seats in the A3 are great improvements from my jetta. This car is blast to drive!
Auf Wiedersehen Boxster -Guten Tag A3
I am a Porsche guy...I have owned them since college and I love driving and caring for them. I love the style, handling and especially the performance. Recently I had three in my garage, but the times...they are a changing and I need to simplify my life, so something had to give. I bid farewell to my 944T and now to the Boxster. I went looking for a car that is FUN, FAST, practical, FAST, handles great.. looks good.. and did I mention FUN and FAST? My search lead me to the A3 and it was as if Audi designed this car just for me. Incredible good looks, great powertrain and that DSG... how sweet. Audi continues to build cars that are targeted to the enthusiast driver, buy this car, you'll love it!
Great Drivers Car
I needed a high mileage/comfort car to supplement the Truck I drive 200 miles daily. The A3 is the perfect complement. Great mileage Great performance and a tight focused drivers expirence. Interior is understated but sharp. Nav/Sound System is easy to use and produces tremendous sound. All in all a great purchase.
Tons of Fun
After owning an IS300 that I didn't want to part with, I discovered this diamond in the rough. No doubt the best car for the money if you care about a great engine, trans, fuel economy and creature comforts. The vehicle feels/drives much heavier than it really is. Excellent!
My A3 has arrived.
In May, I ordered a 2006 A3 2.0TFSI 6SPD M LavaGry/SportPkg/Xenon/RearSide Airbags/Cold Weather PKG/ - Since then I was constantly scanning this forum trying to assure myself I made a good choice. All was confirmed when I picked it up from the dealer today. This car is tight! Torque is strong and readily available throughout the revs. I can't wait until I break the engine in and I can let the car pull through 5000 to the redline. I love the dash at night and the Xenons truly light the way! Ordered a Set of 18" 9 Spoke S4 wheels wrapped in Pirreli P-Zero NeroM&S tire. They'll handle the torque!
(Red) Hot To Trot
Just traded in my very yellow Mazdaspeed Protege for a base A-3. After a week I am pretty impressed with the car's performance and refinement. The car feels much quicker than the Mazda and vastly improved driveability. It is a little more like a wagon than a hot hatchback. I would probably wait for the VW GTI if I were more patient. Would have preferred the sport package +Bose radio but I couldn't seem to find one equipped that way without buying the Skyroof. The base radio and interior are OK but not as sporty unique as the Mazdaspeed Protege. The dealer was fairly uninformed about MP3, Satellite Radio and this new model in general. Still for $25K, a great buy!
It's About Time
Handles great! Quick response. Great mileage. Need more cars of this caliber. Got rid of my SUV. Audi should offer more engine option for this car as they do in Europe.
Awesome Car
We were looking for a car that would be both practical and fun - and we found it. None of the competitors came close to the combination of fuel economy, great handling, fast acceleration, good looks, practical storage space, and overall fun in the upper 20s price range. All I can say is that we love this car - it's all about fahrvegnuggen!
It's a blast!
Don't test drive this car unless you are ready to buy it! That is how we got hooked. It is so much fun. The combination of power, quickness and handling really come together to create an exciting experience. The Direct Shift gearbox is smooth and quick and seems to be in perfect harmony with the 200hp 2.0 litre engine, which is incredibly smooth. Really like the interior design and ergonomics and love the external look. A great stereo adds to the overall enjoyment. We have been really happy with this puchase.
love this car
I've driven quite a few high-end cars and this is my favorite. This car brings together the styling and quality of a luxury vehicle with the fun factor of a sports car. If you're in the market for a new car, you must test-drive the A3.
Long time coming
I use to own a '83 Audi 4000s God I loved that car until it die with over 200k miles on it, ever since I wanted another audi but the A4 just did not appeal to me, now the A3 it just called my name and had to have it. Love the car is fast and agile and very convenient, I love the look on those BMW and SUV owners when they look at it with a gaze.
The perfect commuter car
Living in Los Angeles, this car nearly perfectly suits my urban needs. The DSG transmission is brilliant. It actually shifts faster than the manual, which (according to Motortrend) translates to faster 0-60 times than the manual as well. Shifting is as easy as driving a playstation car- yet a visceral experience equal to the best of any performance car I've driven. The 2.0T is perky, and offers plenty of performance- unfortunately, more than the suspension and all-season tires can handle. Fit and finish are typical Audi- which is to say exceptional. The interior is a blend between the A4 and the TT. It isn't nearly as industrially stark as the TT, and yet not as anonymous as the A4.
Sweet car for the price!
I was looking for an everyday fun car to drive to and from work. There was an auto show in town and I spotted the Audi A3. It looked small and standing 6'2", I fit very well into the car. The next day I stopped at the dealership and bought an 2006 A3 Manual. I have about 100 miles on the car and I love it! I love speed, handling, and no turbo lag. I have the performance package and the seats are great, the hold you in the seat. All in all a great little car for about 30K
I'm taking the long way home...
Base trim. This is a great ride. Power always ready to go. DSG has best automatic program ever. Superb brakes. Real-world space for adults. Sticks to road like quattro. Superior fit and finish. Top-quality plastics and cloth. Nits: Watch the throttle in traffic. Power can come in a rush, youre on the bumper of the car in front in no time. Body lean adds thrilling feel of danger in cornering. Low seat, roof, small glass = closed-in feeling. Boxy sounding stereo, radio reception among the worst. Fussy HVAC system if you want manual control. Shallow trunk', seats don't go flat. Surprising drivetrain and tire noise. Manual seat controls are pure 80s econobox, laughable here.
You have to get one of these.
I would not trade my A3 for anything but another A3. I am sold. The car is perfect. Performance is great! 200 HP is plenty of power to get around traffic. And if you need a little more, chip it to get 250-260 HP. The interior is smartly designed and very clean. Standard leather is what really sets the interior from other cars. A little touch of class and sportiness. There is nothing wrong with this well built car.
2 Thumbs up from a car guy
I am an automotive engineer with a large transplant company from Japan...this was my 1st German car. I am very impressed! Interior/exterior fit/finish is Japanese quality, material quality is tops, handling is extremely good (I got the sport suspension-a little harsh, excuse me, good road input, but that's the way car guys like it!), acceleration is a blast! On 2 lane back roads, down shift, tag the gas and you're by grandma and the semi in a wink of the eye! No turbo lag and terrific fuel economy. Who could ask for anything more? Well, my guests said they could use more rear seat leg room-I think I'll leave them at home next time. This is not your wife's soccer wagon!
Great Performance and Value
After owning three BMWs I thought it was time for a change. The press reviews of the A3 2.0T lulled me into an Audi dealership and within an hour it became a no-brainer: BMW-like performance and quality for under 30k. I'm in. Go easy on the options (I went for the Premium Package, standard, no sun roof) and enjoy the ride. Its not quite the "riding on rails" handling of my 2000 323ci, but its faster. Really! And 10k cheaper.
Audi A3 is my favorite car I ever had!
It's such a cool car. Less trips to the gas station is a big plus and its got room for two kids, a stroller and a trip to the grocery store! Audi has found the answer to needing a mom car but still wanting something fun and awesome to drive. Thanks Audi!
Fun2Drive
The first thing I noticed about this car was its solidity. Closing the trunk yields a solid thump. The entire chassis feels like it was carved from one piece of metal. The second thing I noticed was the steering. Much lighter than the 3 series, but still providing a lot of road feel and sporty playfullness. This steering really begs the driver to toss the car around. Ditto for the engine, though I haven't fully pushed it yet-still breaking in. One thing I love is the low-end torque. You can really thrash the car around and keep it under 3000 rpm. The interior is beautiful-love the amber lighting, but I have one gripe-the stereo (both bose and std) sounds muffled-get new speakers/amp.
Best car I have owned!
I have always wanted to own an Audi and now I know why! This is truly a great car - comfortable, reliable and fun to drive. Living on an island I cannot enjoy it to the max, but still appreciate everything about it. A few weeks ago, the car's brakes and handling saved my life - another car turned directly in front of me, I hit the brakes (no locking) and once I had slowed down, I touched the steering wheel to the right and got around the other vehicle - if I were in most other cars, I probably would not be writing this now!
Blast to drive
Drove lots of other cars & SUVs before trying the Audi A3. I was instantly sold on the fun and the solid feel of the car. For a small car, it packs a ton of pickup. Drives so easy! Lots of thoughtful features and styling in the interior.
Was Skeptical but now a Fan
Wanted to get rid of my SUV while I still could. Heard about A3, drove it and it's quite a car. Try going out on the highway and letting it fly - no other experience like it.
2006 Audi A 3
Have mine for 6K miles. So far it's great. Tight ride, quick, the skylight opens the whole car up. The DSG trans is AWESOME. This coming from someone who hasn't owned an automatic for 20 years. Slight turbo lag in low (1st) gear but no problem in Sport or Manual mode. I don't see many on the road... this is a good thing.
Flawless
Most fun you can have in a car that has comfortable seating and decent luggage room with excellent fuel economy for the level of performance. DSG is the best transmission, manual or automatic, on a mass-produced car, and FSI is the most advanced readily available non-hybrid engine.
Recommended
This car is a solid ride, nimble both in speed and in the turns. The steering is the smoothest I have ever driven. There is a slight pause in quick acceleration but the car is very fun to drive. The interior is comfortable and the features are readily accessible and intuitive. For me it is the perfect size, great performance and a great look. I have looked at several different cars over the past few years (before finally giving up the Honda) and there is no contest for this car in the under 30k market.
Audi A3 DSG
I planned to buy this car and I test drove it, its the best transmission I ever experience, no matter up-shift or down-shift, its so smooth and I think I will make the right choice. Engine response is very good, I drove 2 turbos before and this one is a new experience since I don't need to use gas pedal and clutch to minimize the turbo lags. Thanks to DSG, and its only offer in A3s or TTs, don't get the manual, get DSG, its the best tranny so far in the market! (and its easily to get the engine improve to 250 horses and matching the V6 power - except the quattro unless you think its a must!)
Love this car
After owning two minivans in a row we were somewhat concerned about the smaller size of the Audi. The fun factor more then makes up for any size issues. We find outselves looking for reasons to go places. This car is a blast to drive. Mileage after 1200 miles on the odometer is averaging about 28-30 mpg. Fit and finish is great, performance is outstanding. All in all a very impressive car at this point.
Very nice sportwagon
The engine/drivetrain combination on the A3 is amazingly wonderful. 200 hp on tap with superfast and supersmooth DSG. The style is subtle and sublime. The interior is impeccably Audiesque.
Great things come in small packages!
One part German luxury car, one part German sports car, one part family haulerwith loads of Euro panache! The DSG sets this car apart from all others. It works beautifully. On a recent drive across the state on a two- lane road where speeds of 55-60 are common, 33 mpg was the average. A very comfortable road car with loads of performance on tap.
Test drove it then.....
had to have it!! I bought the last one on the lot, a red base 2.0 with a six speed m.t. This car is a blast....has a bottomless well of torque and a (very subjective) perfect balance between ride and handling. Transmission is positive and quick. The motor is a gem - NO turbo lag and just a sly hint of that distinctive suck/whine that blown engines have. I love this thing.
All Fun All the Time
The A3 is great fun to drive. The 2.0 turbo engine is fantastic. More fun than my old supercharged Mercedes. I've always liked to do my own shifting and have had manual transmissions. When I drove the DRG automatic I was won over. I can't imagine going back after after driving this quick smooth automatic, or electronic manual as Audi refers to it. I haven't had any problems with my Audi. It's always a joy to get in and drive.
My first car ...
It's my first new car. Premier package with Opensky. I am driving a car again after two and half years break and am still getting used to it. Mileage is as expected. Acceleration and handling feel great but sometimes it doesn't seem to respond as well to gas pedal. I don't know if it is my driving. The front sunshade latch on the Opensky broke after 5-6 times of use. The dealership admitted that they have been getting lot of complaints about that latch. The screws attached to the net/hook in the cargo area are really loose. I also occasionally hear some rattles from behind. It is the first production apparently. Otherwise, the storage space seems to justify why I preferred this to A4 sedan.
One year later, still going strong
I did an Edmunds review on this car, a year ago when I bought it, and I am still very happy. It is reliable, fast, very useful due to its hatch and folding seats and very comfortable and fun to drive. I added 245 size tires which give the car better traction and handling, but do scrape a little at the back, but well worth it. Currently my mileage is 7700 miles (hard driving), and the car was bought in CA, USA. I still think the car is an excellent buy, but time will tell.
An overlooked vehicle
Having owned an A4 1.8T previously, I've had first hand experience with the Audi product. The 2.0T is a huge improvement over the already great 1.8T and the DSG transmission is a blast to drive. The tight handling and fun to drive factor have made me forget about many of the luxury items I became used to in the A4, including Quattro. My A3 is the best car I've ever owned.
SPORTback
The Audi A3 sportback is a great vehicle to own and drive. With a great engine, good fuel economy, and stylish European looks, the 2006 Audi A3 sportback really lives up to its name as a SPORTback. It is an awesome first car.
Audi All the Way!!
Researched the car for over a year and finally test drove an A3 among other brands: BMW, Volvo, and Acura. A3 won me over mainly for its fuel economy and the performance - TURBO. A very capable "sportswagon". Most of my friends couldn't believe how well handled the car is on the road - mine comes with the sports option. The AudiConcert sound system is quite good. I can't wait to take this car along the Coastal Hi-Way in Calif. Nice work, Audi!
The S.U.V. alternative
I love my new A3. I originally wanted to buy an S.U.V., but with gas prices on the rise with no end in sight, I needed to look for something else. The A3 offers the refinement of a near luxury car, a genuine sporty pretense, and real utility, all with great gas mileage. With the rear seats folded down you can fit an amazing amout of stuff in this vehicle. I got mine with the sport package and believe me, the A3 handles at least as well or better than my former Infiniti G35. The A3 is a great value for what you get. I highly recommend at least giving it a serious look. In my opinion, the A3 and cars like it will eventually replace SUV's in America as gas prices clime to near Europe prices.
Very smooth ride
It has the same engine as the A4 with a smaller, lighter chassis, so it is quick. I feel NO turbo lag at all -- amazing! I got the premium, cold weather and open sky packages. Seat heaters are great and premium makes this feel like a higher end car. I don't recommend the BOSE radio - not impressive during test drive and not worth it at $900. I'm an audio guy but the standard one is really about the same. Ride is quite stiff even without the sport package's tight suspension - you decide if tighter is better. Audi has a bad reliability reputation, but this model is not new -- it's been around in Europe for quite a while. Overall, a very refined machine.
Just got it and love it
Just bought my A3 yesterday and I have to say that I am impressed. I went from the VW Jetta GLS VR6 to the smooth 2.0 T and it is night and day. The DSG transmission is a must. The open sky is very enjoyable. The car drives smoothly at low and high speeds and has enough kick to make it a sport's car.
Worth the wait!
I had been looking to replace my VW Passat for the past year. The new Passats left me cold, I was waiting for the new GTI but after comparing the two and driving the A3 I had to have the Audi. Had mine special ordered as black, silver & grey are the only colors dealers seem to be stocking in the Northeast. I had mine done in white and it really stands out and shows off the cars lines. Great driving, awesome performance (zero turbo lag) and superb roadholding. Will dust many more expensive cars. Front seats very comfortable and sound system rocks.
Great Performance, Luxury for the dough!
We bought our car after seeing one in a shopping mall. Took a test drive, loved it bought one blue, opensky, dsg, premium pkg for 31 k ... car is worth every dime. It drives like a dream , and is a blast to drive around town. We are both 6'-0 and we have room in front even with folks in the back. We have owned an Avalon, Caravan, Blazer over the years and this is our first Audi. It may be entry level but it has a ton of bang for the buck !! I'm telling all my 50 something pals about this car!! BMW and Mercedes watch out as this car blows you guys away. It is more fun to drive in a lot of ways than my 1973 Jensen Healey.
4DR TT
I purchased my A3 w/sport, convenience, cold weather, Bose, Open Sky and Xenon in Jan. CPO vehicle with 4,000 miles so I got the 6 yr/100k warrantee. I know who the previous owner was. Traded my 00 VR6 VW Jetta. I loved my VW but this car is it. The looks and build quality are top notch. Performance for a 4 cyl Turbo is fantastic. This thing goes. The exhaust note when on the gas is music to my ears. Just loud enough to let you know that this baby has a little something under the hood. Xenon lights are great, Bose is plenty fine, I am not an audiophile and my girls really like the glass over the rear seats. Ergonomics are just right inside. Just a solid package for around 30K.
Great car
An excellent vehicle that looks great and drives better! Very sporty, nice luxury touches, utility of a hatchback, lots of power and good fuel economy. This car seems to have everything going for it.
