Pengwin: the fit/finish and quality of materials used in the interiors of cars has nose dived the past 2 years with few exceptions. I leased a 2000 Toyota Solara SLE with leather and owned a 2005 Camry XLE with leather. Both of these cars had thick padded dashes, soft touch materials throughout and impeccable fit/finish. I currently own a 2005 Sienna and the the interior is very good. I leased a ... Read More

I also took a test drive at Berge VW in Gilbert, AZ. I liked the new look. As previously posted, it looks a lot better in person than it did on-line. There is a distinct difference in exterior looks between it and the Jetta. The first thing I did was sit in the back seat. I am 6'2" and found that the back seat is way too small. Really, I did ... First of all, yes, the DSG is a Dual Clutch system. I drove a 2006 A3 with the DSG over the weekend and it's incredible. It shifts more quickly than Ferrari's F1 tranny! And even in FWD guise, the car handles VERY well, it's on the short list of the best FWD cars I've ever driven along with the 1991 Lotus Elan SE and the 1995 Corrado VR6. Secondly, as to ... I'm not sure about the 2003 Passat but I own a 1991 Audi 80 and a 1999 VW Passat wagon and both cars require removing the large plastic cover that you describe. After removing the first time you will see that it's not hard. It helps very much in keeping the engine compartment clean.

Pavlov gets his responses ;-) When this thread gets a little boring I know that all I have to do is to "ring the bell" and the Subaru dogs start to salivate oooops I mean they start posting like crazy! JUST KIDDING!! Mike--Looks like you walked into a trap of your own making. Where did I say that the Passat is a superior car in ABSOLUTE TERMS? The Subaru is the ... Read More

I have bought 4 VW's thus far...Bought my most recent one back in November of 2001. It's a Passat Wagon. Still have my 1991 GTI with over 211,000 miles on it. Heck I don't even take care of it and it still won't die...Also have a 3 series BMW but won't buy another one of those because of dealer attitude problems...

  • How reliable?

I'm thinking of buying a Passat Wagon but hearing the horror stories of some unfortunate Passat owners has me hesitating. I have owned 3 VW's one of which is a 1991 GTI that I currently drive and it has 204,000 miles on it and never has given me any trouble at all. 204,000 miles on the clutch is remarkable. Had front disc pads put on a few weeks ago(3rd set in ... Read More

Hi Folks! My name is Ricahrd, and I am diligently trying to research a used Volkswagon I've had my eye on all week! Presently I'm weighing my options between a 1991 Accord EX and a 1993 VW Passat GLS VR6 "Special Anniversary Edition"? Does anyone have info pertaining to this particular VW model. The only models I've discovered for that year are the GL or the GLX - and nowhere have ... Read More
