help engine overheating
my 2002 vw golf 2.0 is overheating. turning on the heater produces NO hot air when this happens. coolant/ water level not going down noticeably. engine fan takes a while to kick on , but even when it does, the engine doesn't cool. Where do we find the thermostat??

You must not be reading the same Consumer Reports I am. Consumer Reports only has reliability ratings for one year of the Golf diesel--2002--which rates it as average (open circle, no red) overall, same for engine major, solid black (much worse than average) for engine minor, solid red (much better than average) for engine cooling. Looked at 2002 VW's at Team VW in Merrillville, IN and they had a sticker in addition to the factory sticker that listed additional equipment. The additional equipment included splash guards for $295.00 and paint/fabric protection for $499.00. Does anyone besides me feel that $295.00 for splash guards is nearly stealing?
